    Keane was one of those rare sports men who was greater than his ability, he was a wonderful footballer but his desire , his refusal to accept defeat was his best quality.

      I dislike people who don't realize genuinely how good a footballer Keane was. He was all round world class player in his prime. Numb nuts don't understand just because he didn't do fancy stuff. He was incredibly efficient and effective both in attack and defense. He made everyone he played with 20% better just because he wouldn't accept anything less. Amazing player

    • @thesprawl2361
      @thesprawl2361 3 месяца назад

      No, there are definitely players at United right now with that mentality. Bruno is absolutely fixated on winning, maybe even more than Roy; Lisandro's got that determination too. And it's not the same, but there's a glint of steel in Rashy's eyes too, and Garnacho's. There are players you can imagine would've loved to play under Fergie.
      The difference is that with Keano's United there was a consistent, brilliant manager who made sure everything else was in place for characters like Bruno, Licha, Rashford - those kind of players - to flourish. Put prime Keane in this modern United team and he would be just like Bruno - a furious, boiling ball of energy with high standards, just like Bruno. But he'd still lose matches, just like Bruno, because the rest of the things that a successful team needs aren't there; manager, coaching staff, stability, etc.
      This United team is more than good enough to win things, big things. It's not the players; it's everything else.

      Different generation not just with footballers but society in general. We are a softer generation. Went to a Sports Day (Primary School) yesterday for my friend's kid (started at 1200hours and finished at 1530hours). Wouldn't even have a Parents' race due to "Health and Safety". No relay races (4x100) for the older Primary School kids. They had to do standing Long Jump because they don't have a Long Jump pit. No 200m/400m races. No High Jump. I was like it's a different culture (I come from Zimbabwe) but this is insane. Our Sports Days (both Primary and Secondary School) would be held on a Saturday. It would be an all day affair starting from 0900hours and finishing well after 1700hours with a lunch break in-between. Trust me it was competitive to the bone and there were no participation trophies being handed out. At the end of the Athletics season there was an inter-schools competition (eight schools from the local area that would meet and compete at the National Sports Stadium). It would be another full day of events on a Saturday with all the track and field events on show. We would have up to 5000 people present from the eight schools minimum. Schoolboys competing for their schools with absolute pride and some fighting in-between lol. So it doesn't surprise me at all that even at the elite level you have a bunch of grown over-pampered men who don't have drive or the zeal/will to win. What a shoddy state of affairs.

Our pundits in general need to stop jumping in the band wagon they have been part of the media witch hunt . Surely it would be better to help the players rather than bring them down. They get enough from everyone else. Ian Wright has been more supportive and Wright about united than him. Keane had to eat humble pie when he spoke to ETH at the cup final. In my experience, people have a different perception of what defines late. Many have said that about me, but I'm just on time, but because they're mugs and work for free fifteen minutes early, they twist it around that I'm late, not that they're easy. People in general are thick and lack logic.

      @@SagaciousFrank well that can be true , if you work extra you will just get taken advantage of take money that would have paid for overtime and make everyone else look bad in comparison.
      Slow quitting is indeed a thing now

    In NBA analogy, Keano had Mamba Mentality. Always on point. No compromise. Nothing but 100% in all aspects of life.

    England in Euros - players chatting to opposition 'mates ' in tunnel - watch Keane in tunnel, total focus, a winner before he steps on the ptich and you will have to give everything to take it from him.
