    Nice presentation, can the intermediate steering shaft damage the steering rack module?

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair

      I’ve havent seen that and can’t picture how it could really, do you have a issue with your steering gear?

      @@EuropeanAutoRepair The steering wheel is hard to move left or right, the steering shaft end is rusted. I was first told it was the steering rack and now I'm told it's perhaps the intermediate shaft. Neither have been replaced yet. Don't know what to believe anymore. The only warning indicator was "engine light" on. Any ideas?

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair

      If you just pull the one pinch bolt off the bottom of the steering shaft you can slip the u joint off the steering gear and feel if it is seized, if the steering is difficult and easier through the rotation it’s likely the shaft, the intermittent shaft is much more common of a problem

      They are a different design but still utilizes u joints so it is possible tho not common on that model, more common to have those damaged wires causing stiff steering on that model

    • @thomasvideoa
      @thomasvideoa 11 месяцев назад

      @@IWillBeAMillionair I had the same problem on my Q7. Before replacing the parts, You may try the following:
      1. spray a lot WD40 on the u-joint (the lower one), and turn the steering to the left and right limit, then spray more WD 40 again to clean the rust and dirt.
      2. Wait for several hours, spay white lithium greases and turn the steering wheel till the u-joint is covered with grease.
      After doing this, my Q7 is as smooth as new.

    After replacement do you need rest or recalibration of steering angle sensor? And what happens if you don't lock steering wheel during the process.

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair
      @EuropeanAutoRepair  3 года назад +1

      No recalibration required, as long as the steering wheel doesn't spin with the rod disconnected its OK. If it does you may damage clock spring

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair
      @EuropeanAutoRepair  2 года назад

      Should need steering angle recalibration, they are made very accurate. If you don't lock the wheel and loose position of center you can damage the clock spring

    • @epipolarus
      @epipolarus 2 года назад

      @@EuropeanAutoRepair Actually, it's a common issue for Audi Q5/SQ5 to have "squeaking noise", because of the shaft is rubbing the sealing rubber, there is an Audi TSB for it. My 2016 Q5 had the noise when it was only 5000 miles. Audi dealer sprayed some grease in it, a few weeks later the noise came back. Then, the dealer replaced it under warranty. A year later, the noise gradually came back, and didn't bother to replace it again. I'm getting used to it, but it's annoying. Now, I'm thinking of replacing it myself. Thanks for the video.

    • @EuropeanAutoRepair
      @EuropeanAutoRepair  2 года назад +1

      It's funny I had a Q5 come in last week with that squeaking from the steering grommet, it was a few weeks after the dealer replaced the steering shaft, I played with the positioning of the grommet on that bearing and seems to have taken care of it.

      @@EuropeanAutoRepair Just found the TSB: static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2015/MC-10130705-9999.pdf It seems to cover most Audi models. Would love to hear your opinion about the best way to prevent the noise from coming back (it's a matter of time for the noise to appear even with a new one.)
