The FDev ship design team are going hog wild after being locked in the basement for six years.
And I love that they let them out, i would be starved to create too.
I thought so at first, but it turns out it's just a ship from star citizen but upside down. Nothing wrong with that though, looks amazing.

@@golem_videomaking My personal hope is that the T8 will beat out the Python by a fair margin for cargo space (50-100t), but if you want a trader that can defend itself you'll still use the Python.

I've never made my rite of passage to Hutton (I've owned the game since 2014), but seeing this ship has made me excited to play the game again. Maybe this year I'll just sit down and make my trek up there.

Wow! A new proper space truck with next gen aesthetics!!! I love too, how the overall Lakon look has not been traded away either. Very cool design, I sure will be flying one when they drop!!
This thing looks stunning. The overhanging mandibles are the best design feature of the Kraits and the Mamba. They give an excellent sense of ship scale from inside the cockpit, especially in VR.
Also nice to see it incorporate the outboard nacelles from the Lakon Alliance ships. I've been saying we need more ships incorporating both of these elements for years. If it has any articulating parts like the keelback it'll be 11/10.
I am actually going to get back into the game so I can play with this ship when it releases.
From what we've been shown of the Type 8 it is everything I could have hoped for in a cargo trading vessel. Love the whole workhorse aesthetic. I can't wait to get my hands on one.
I confess, that ship looks pretty cool! Insert meme of man walking with Type 7 but looking lustily at Type 8.
Its gonna be a miner - the short range mining lasers mounted on the end of the two long arms close to the asteroid and the large thrusters for maneuvering through the asteroid field. I love it!
We also need new (XL) large landing pad freight ship now, so Panther Clipper, sluggish but with 2000 tons of cargo + plenty of shields and turrets.

I suspect there will be a SCO enabled exploration ship (Asp Ex Mk II, maybe?) and hopefully a large SCO enabled companion to the Cutter / Corvette warships...

Well I'd say a Medium passenger ship that can fit the luxury cabin will be on the list if they are looking as the Dolphin is small and the Orca/Beluga are large

The 3D design has obvious coloration where hardpoints would go, so im thinking either a 2x3 (near the cockpick under the arms) and 4x2 up top (see the 4 small boxes when you see the top view). Other potential hardpoint alignments are 2x2 and 4x1 and I think that one is more likely

5:13 I don't really think we'll be looking at an explorer. All vessels focused on exploration are made by Lakon. And they're already making the Type 8.

Since the big new feature is supposed to come this summer(right?) I almost expected some info on what it actually is. But, since there wasn't any I can only assume it is delayed. As for new ships I think it might be cool to see some kind of dedicated drone ship that could work as a support ship of some sort. Perhaps a mostly weaponless ship that can fit several fighters at once, sort of like a Battle carrier.
I'd love to see that ship as a variant to a salvage ship.

Logically, one of next two should be a Gutamaya medium-size Imperial ship. Second - or Cobra(forget number of), or some Federal ship. Anyway, some medium Imperial ship would be perfect, if they rebalance Power System.
The ship looks great, but I'm curious where it sits number wise. If it doesn't haul more than a python, then what's the point, and if it does haul more than a python it just makes the t7 look even worse. I know people will fly underperforming ships due to style and personal choice, but it will still have an impact.
I have been roleplaying that my trade ship Python was a type 8 since 2019 glad that it actually isnt that different.
Finally a type 8. I'm hoping it is a smaller type 10 but fast, well armed fast good cargo space. A proper combat freighter. Well see😅
they should make for every faction corvettes maybe frigates that can be fly like any other ships but not like carrier
Fdev should feature a sweepstakes where the winners get to access a ship build feature where they each build a ship for the community to vote on. The final winner’s design could be brought into the game!! Do that once a year and the community will love you for it!

Hmm...this ship seems to have a unique cockpit, this might be the first completely new ship since the Mamba, and not a simple variant/reskin like the Python MK2.

I already got used to simpler designs in elite compared to overcomplicated ships in star citizen. This one caught me of guard. Way to go, FD!
If we get an exploration-dedicated new ship with this level of love, it might be bye-bye to my trusty Phantom...
Or my treasured AspX. I've lived in that ship for thousands of light years. With the new SCO drive it couldn't be a more perfect explorer.

I have been with Elite Dangerous since its first release but haven't been tempted back so far, I still feel that it doesn't matter how many new or varient ships they throw at us, not being able to walk around my ship/cockpit is a deal breaker, there are many other games as good if not better where I can walk around my ship. Come on Elite, step up.
They won't. They've said they don't want to. So guess they don't want more money.
Can't wait for them to release it and make us wait 3 months to use it.

They should probably make the type 7 able to fit on a medium landing pad now otherwise its just going to become more redundant than it already is
Or at least give it a medium hardpoint so you can use it for deepcore mining but Frontier dont like changing existing stuff it seems

The Type 8 is so gorgeous it actually has me interested in doing mining and trading, things I normally don't really care for doing. I'm hoping it'll be a bit of a multi-role ship like the OG Python or Krait but that may be too much to ask.
I'm hoping we get an Explorer ship next. Another Passenger ship would be neat too (there's no Medium-sized Saud Kruger in the game yet) though I struggle to think of the application of SCO for a cruise liner.
So far we've seen ships from Faulcon DeLacy and Lakon. I'd assume we won't see Faction-locked ships from Core Dynamics or Gutamaya. This leaves Zorgon Peterson and Saud Kruger for possible manufacturers of SCO ships. We might actually see an SCO-enabled Luxury liner, and a Zorgon Peterson exploration vessel?

First it was Eve, then Star Citizen, and now Elite. i love the Venture (like)family of ships and this new type 8 has to be my favorite
I will probably be retiring my venerable Python miner for this... I wouldn't mind scrapping ships with it too if we ever got ship scavenging
I hope they make it multipurpose this ship looks too good for it to be a one trick pony, give it a good jump range and some decent hard points it could be a great explorer miner fighter

I think I would like to see a ship aimed at mining. Lots of small and medium hard points. With a VERY LARGE cargo capacity (1000 units or more) which could be used as a tritium tanker. Doesn't need to be quick. Be able to get at least a 50+ LY engineered jump range and carry a fighter. Who's to say it couldn't have a small landing pad and basic services too? ❤🤍💙

Seems like they're on a tear to make the Python Mk1 obsolete. Krait has the same Hardpoints/flight model w/centralized seat, MK2 has the pvp maneuvers, Type 8 will have more??? cargo space??? or be a better mining ship perhaps? FDEV having to build Python variants to show off just how GOOD THE DAMN PYTHON IS. BEST SHIP IN THE GAME. Why need lot ships when one ship do trick.

Weird that they went with SCOFSD instead of just saying that someone figured out how to make all existing FSDs faster? Why add a teir split or go for a change of terms for what is ultimately just a video game widget, is it because that would highlight it's a Live Service game?
