FORD F350 6.4L Powerstroke issues // 3 trucks in 2020! What to do?

  • Here is our full story of what happened to our Ford F350. Our NOP-eeps have been with us through the whole journey. Become an NOP-eep here - www.noordinary...
    ***** THE FULL TRUCK SAGA *****
    Pulling with a half ton - bit.ly/2QjuFZH
    Hitch Issues - bit.ly/34pPc7h
    Buying TWO new trucks - bit.ly/32ghFtC
    We upgraded from a Ford F150 back in March not because it was bad. A lot of people advised a larger truck was necessary. We knew this from the start but never had the funds to do it. After a year and half on the road, we felt we enough money to get a new truck finally. We purchased a F250 from I-10 Premier Auto Sales in Phoenix AZ but took it back within the first week due to engine issues. They had already gotten rid of our little truck that could so we thought we were forced to choose something else. We "upgraded" again to this F350. A full one ton truck should do the trick. Little did we know that the 6.4L Powerstroke was not a good engine. Hind sight is always 20/20 though.

    A 6.4L is worth every penny you put into it. With that being said, it's not for the faint at heart. The 6.4 has absolutely got some amazing weaknesses, but when they are addressed, it's a remarkable engine. I know what you're going through, I had a big learning curve too. The 6.4 is not for the faint at heart. Probably the worst place to get service is ironically a Ford dealership. I’m so sorry for all the stress you guys had to go through with your family. We will be selling our truck and moving up to a larger truck. We currently have a fully loaded 2019 Ram Laramie and we love it! But we are selling our home and downsizing to a fifth wheel with our two boys when we move to Texas. So sad to hear of all your problems with your Ford. The worst part is the warranty company refusing to pay. Aftermarket warranty companies are just rip offs. You pay up front then they give excuses why it’s not covered. Your at their mercy. Don’t pay in advance for repairs by getting a warranty, most of the time you’ll be the one ahead.
    You both handled this stressful situation incredibly. Keep loving life and moving forward! God bless you.

    It sounds like maybe too late, but you should contact Powerstroke Diesel. located in Georgia I think. They specialize in these motors and trucks and have a youtube channel. The repairs are expensive, but no more so than Ford (probably much less). They do a much better job with higher quality parts where necessary and an impressive warrenty. Good luck.

      @@NoOrdinaryPath Yes, that I believe is their main or perhaps entire business and they do guarantee their motors. But, this information is too little too late for these folks. If they were dead set on a 6.4 they should have hopped in it and hoped it made it to Geogia where those guys would bullet proof that motor. Not cheap mind you but if you had to have a 6.4 that's where the truck should have gone, immediately. The guy that runs it is bit over the top in my opinion but they do good work. He's kind of an ass. Knows everything, his opinion is right and everyone else's is wrong. On the flip side, he does do a lot of good works for Vets. I guess one can put up with a little bit of asshole if his shop actually does great work. I stopped watching because of his demeanor.

You might get the mileage you're talking about if you were just going after groceries but it's a truck and I used it as a truck and I towed with it and it died both of them. • @volvo09
    @volvo09 4 года назад +1

    To ALLLLLLLL reading this. Aftermarket warrantys aren't worth the paper they're printed on. A Ford / GM / RAM factory extended warranty is one thing, but if that same dealer or any random corner dealer offers you an extended warranty by some other warranty company DO NOT buy it!!!!!!!!!! These are money grabs. The stuff they cover is so limited, and they weasel out of everything possible. This story is exactly what I expect from anyone who tries to use one of these warrantys on a major issue. Live and learn, but spread the word! I despise these warrantys, they screw over so many people who would have otherwise made a different choice like a newer or diffferent vehicle / or skipping the warranty and applying it's crazy price (which they happily will roll into your loan!) towards future repairs.

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 4 года назад

      I see you bought another one. Be super careful, if there is a "return period" on the warranty see if you can get your money back if it is another 3rd party warranty and it's reviews aren't good. Hypothetical situation, but let's just say the turbo fails on teh dodge, when the shop calls teh warranty company they'll probably deny it for X reason they made up on the spot such as low oil pressure, or we saw an oil leak (the tiniest seepage ever) at a turbo oil supply line and you should have fixed that and that's why your turbo failed (a lie). Just getting it out there, I really do dislike these 3rd party warrantys.... so do your research, they sell on that moment decision in the finance office. Good luck, you had a tough situation there being stuck and made it through :)

    I bought an 05 6.0 F250 in 08. Drove it for many years...but it was EXPENSIVE! 2013 the trans needed rebuilt, so I decided to go with billet components to the tune of $6k, after all I’m going to keep this truck forever🤣 2014 the truck overheated and needed head gaskets done again. The truck was deleted and studded and still needed head gaskets. As soon as that happened I bought an older 7.3 truck and haven’t looked back. The 7.3 is louder and slower, but reliable! The last two repairs on the truck were $11k and that was enough for me🤣 Best of luck to you all in your travels👍

    Ya those engines are so complicated and they have so many things to go wrong with them . Ours blew both turbos had lots of overheating issues then stopped regening so the cat blocked up near solid so I installed a tune into it and ran great after that but kept throwing codes , still ran fine just threw codes so you never knew if it was going to break . Paid 57000 had it for a year put tons of money into it and sold it at the end of a year to a mechanic for $10000 who knew all the issues and was going to install a different engine. Bought another Ford F-350 but with the 6.7 litre engine had it for 5 years and not ONE issue. Now we just bought our last truck before retirement a 2020 F350 with the 6.7 and hoping for the best lol , good luck in your travels, new subscriber.

    I had a 2010 f250 KR with the 6.4. Took off the DPF and the EGR coolers and replaced the up pipes with stainless. Kept the stock tune on it. Never abused it and never had any troubles. People run into trouble in 2 ways. Either they don’t delete everything and the emissions will ruin the motor or , they do delete them, put a super hot tune on it and double the horse power and expect the factory internals to hold up. I never had any troubles but the thought of injector replacement, turbo replacement etc just worried me to much. Traded it on a f350 cc long box 4x4 single rear wheel with the 6.2 gas and have never looked back. The new diesels with emissions will all have problems at some point.

    The fully paid F150 you let go took the charm with it. Hopefully you get a better truck to keep going. Sorry to hear what happened but I would be very skeptical to buy a used super duty truck as no one tells what previous owners towed with it and how harshly. I bought new in 2019 and never had any issues (yet), trying to get F250 with their new diesel but then decided to delay as my son said he wants to take my F150 and then I can go for F250 with Ford's own diesel engine which are super reliable, let's see. Wish you all the best.

    Beware of the Bosch CP4 hi pressure fuel injection pump. Mine blew 2200 miles from home, thankfully it was covered under the FORD extended warranty that I purchased with the 2013 F-250 in 2018. Dodge used this pump also during your year also I believe. The dealer had it for 9 weeks, had to rent a car to get home for $1460, then fly back to Spokane 9 weeks later to pick it up. The fuel injection kit was on backorder, and the dealer said will have to wait until it comes in. I went to work and found that there were 518 on BO. My attitude was was that there had to be a kit somewhere. After about a dozen calls around the country I found one for the dealer and had them get it transferred from a dealer in Oregon. Half way home to KY in the middle of Iowa the heat tube from the turbo blew off, found a dealer 20 miles away and the reconnected it and was on my way the next day (the original dealer didn’t reattach it correctly). Investigate the Bosch CP4 Pump failures on Dodge diesels. I add Motorcraft (Ford product) lubricant to each tank full to help prevent this from happening again. If you want more info , let me know.

    SINCE YOURE GETTING OUT OF THE OTHER WARRANTY YOU NEED TO CALL THE OLD WARRANTEE COMPANY AND DEMAND A REFUND FOR THE PRORATED AMOUNT.
    Sorry for the all CAPS but we just canceled 2 warrantees one from my wife’s old car and one from camping world since we traded the vehicles. You’re entitled to a prorated amount back.

    My dad bought an 08 F350 King ranch with the 6.4L when it was 3 years old with 60k. At 140k we had issues with the EGR filters and coolers. At first they tried to say the computer was bad. After getting it taken care of the truck didn’t miss a beat. Traded it in with 200k it spent most of its life towing trailers and equipment, it was a great truck for us.

    I put a engine in our 2010 F-450 at a cost of $18,500 from Ford at a Ford dealership. We got 900 miles on new engine and well it needed to be replaced not repaired . Then we got 600 miles on the 2nd motor and it needed replaced not repaired. If you are still reading this we got 300 miles on the 3rd one that needs to be replaced not repaired. We traded it in on a new one. We did get the $18,500 for trade-in.

    You must of had a lemon. First issue is that it over heated. I researched the heating issue with the pros. They said just to change the coolant reservoir cap. Yes a Cap. The stock apparently doesn’t keep the seal and it looses pressure, thus overheating. I never had an issue with mine, because I changed it. thank God.

    I have a 07 ford Expedition 5.4l 245.000 still runs has not Been open up yet but the timing service needs to be done that it. Part do get worn .i probably can get 300.000 out of it if people can pay attention on the road and stop texting while driving just put it down i have been rear ended 1 in my truck and 2 weeks later this time stuck in traffic in my friend car and they both had an excuse you don't go to work down the road that fast unless you're not paying attention why weren't you paying attention that's the question texting is dangerous people. But also keeping up maintenance on your vehicle also helps and do a pre-inspection before every trip.

    This is the main reason we buy new - no guarantees but better odds. I’ve towed a 40’ Weekend Warrior 5th toyhauler w/an ‘04 Silverado 2500HD Dura/Allison (bagged, Hellwigs, Bilsteins). Currently ‘20 F150 4x w/bags, Hellwigs, Bilsteins towing a 22’ Nash using a Hensley Arrow (absolutely no sway). Hope the Dodge works well for you, quite a diff platform than your original F150!

      We would have liked to but it was cost prohibitive. When we started our journey two and half years ago we were debt free (besides student loans). No payments on anything so jumping to a new truck with the payment would have been a huge change. In the end, with the extra money we sunk into the whole situation it would have been better to suck it up and take the crazy big payment back in Mar when we were ready to upgrade the F150. We just didn't want the huge payment. Now we have the huge payment anyway and it isn't even brand new. Gah! Hind sight is always 20/20

  • @Fa113nSaint

    I would suggest you should always stay away from a diesel engine if you don't specifically need the extra towing capacity of the diesel engines. Naturally aspirated v8s are lighter have a higher payload capacity over their diesel counterparts. The less complex nature of a naturally aspirated engine makes them more reliable in the absence of egr coolers, high pressure fuel systems turbochargers, and complex after teatment systems all of which costs more to fix then you can replace the entire engine assembly In a gasoline v8.

    • @NoOrdinaryPath
      @NoOrdinaryPath  4 года назад

      Great points. We've had a gas truck before and it did fine - just had to go slow on hills. We went with what we felt was the best option on the lot given our circumstances. Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment. :)

    Taking cab off to work on top of engine? Looking at the boot connector it's oily must be clean. Your problem is the tech. Hooking truck up to scanner would tell you everything you need to know.
