UPDATE (Dec 2020) - The data plans offered via Mobile Must Have changed since the time of this post. The Verizon plans are no longer available and the AT&T plans are no longer unlimited but capped at 500GB. At the moment this is still the highest data allowance out there and 500GB is way more than enough for the vast majority of people. But it is NOT unlimited.
This is not the highest Data allowance out there btw. We are full-time and use Reliable Internet AT&T and have used 1.1TB last month no caps. Just an FYI that there are cheaper and larger capped companies out there.

Way too complicated for this person, but maybe the hot spot and router with booster. We are getting ready to full time. When we were camping the last 2 years, we had a terrible time getting cell or internet. I feel it is imperative to be as connected as i can in case of personal or national, etc. emergencies like weather, quakes, and fires. We live now with fires, and internet can save lives. We thought we were out of the woods one year, and unpacking when i suddenly had 4 messages and 2 calls saying to leave, now! Then the firemen showed up, same message. We left in our slippers, only half packed with no place to go! That's when we bought a truck and trailer! After 4 terrifying evacuations, we haven't had one since we bought the trailer. But you never know. You sleep with an ear open all summer and fall. So, we are leaving asap. But, i must have cell and internet for some peace of mind. Thank you.

We just bought our first real trailer that we'll be able to use, and I'm already working from home, and so I'm trying to find ways for me to work from the road now, too! :-) But seriously, I've learned SO much from y'all!! I have seen a lot of people on RUclips talk about various subjects like this, and they usually don't really explain it correctly, or fully. Well done, sir!

I am a 70-year-old disabled man and along with my 75-year-old girlfriend, makeup 'Golden Years Traveling'. Due to the many doctors' appointments, Diana and I each must go to, it is not possible for us to travel fulltime. Due to trying to build a RUclips Channel and needing to stay in touch with all of our Doctors, it is very important to have the best internet service, at a decently priced investment opportunity. We use a WeBoost with an omnidirectional antenna on AT&T. Being an amateur radio operator I'm able to shoot a line up in a tall tree (about 45' to 65') and hoist the antenna up. With that setup we get great coverage with the AT&T Hotspot and we get cell coverage. Our requirements are not as extensive as yours. Thank you for the great videos. Paul and
A long time ago, when I was playing with cantennas for wifi range issues, I remember every foot of cable to the antenna was decreasing signal quality. Is this no longer an issue? What cable are you running up to the antenna? 73s!
@@StevenKrzysiak It is true that additional cable will attenuate the signal, but in some cases, getting a signal by gaining altitude means the difference between a signal and no signal. An amplifier can help bring the signal back up to a usable level. I'm also a ham and a EE. Every situation is different. YMMV.
I’m a RF engineer 25 years with one of the largest wireless carriers in US. Chad done a great job explaining the different options here. When Chad talked about MIMO and carrier aggregation he kept it simple but really got the point across for a very complex feature of LTE advance.
My wife and I are planning to go full-time with in the next 2 years. We have been concerned about being connected since she will still be working. Thank you for answering alot of the questions going through our heads. Some of it was above my pay grade but another sank in. Hope to be able to thank you both in person someday for all the info you put out.
Opportunities are all around you...there's no shortage of things you can do to make that dream a reality! I think it was motivational speaker *Zig Ziglear* who said "Help enough people get what they want out of life and success will find you!"..or something to that extent!
I would love to find a decent job and work from home again. I did it for 15 years but tech ended the job entirely. I liked it but missed the people I worked with in the hospitals where I used to work before working at home. It takes discipline but it was great generally.
A little late commenting... This is so vital for running a virtual business from an RV. Our departure date is 7/1/21 and this is a HUGE help in determining budgeting and continuity in internet connections. I love your office too, it kind of blew my mind in order to set up a space for 2 working in the office. We are also looking at tearing out a bunkhouse and outfitting with desks and storage for the business. But the porch on the backside!!!! Sigh! Congrats on 100,000 too!

Hey guys, you have me absolutely hooked. Chad, I love your how-to videos, I've learned so much from watching you, I hope to be able to put it to use in another year. I also love that even though it's behind a panel or under the floor you still leave it with a finished look. People I used to work with would say "Can't see it from my front porch", I always figured that if it fails and it's left clean and tidy you can find the fault easier. I also find that if it's left clean and tidy it's less likely to fail. Tara, I put you on the same pedestal as my sister-in-law, she was diagnosed with chronic lyme disease about 14 years ago, she says just getting out of bed takes all she has, so nothing but good vibes to you dear, you make Chad look better, you know it's true Bro'. Thanks for walking through this. We are just part timers so we use a open hot spot and a SIM from T-Mobile. Plan works like your AT&T network. It was a life saver in a little town in Oklahoma. Put it up in the "right" window and we were off. Allowed my AT&T phone to link to my company's e-mail while at our campsite. Plan to work out my RV more in future. You gave some great pointers as we start off on our new adventures.

Just last week we had learned the Togo Roadlink C2 / truly unlimited high speed At&t combo we bought last year retired in January. We used the living mess out of that. We're currently trying to figure out what new direction to take so awesome timing on this video. Thanks man!!
We are in the same position with Togo works for now but we need to figure out something by December 2020. I heard they would unlock Togo for other providers too but carrier rates are currently unaffordable with no data options that are even remotely close to what we have. Wineguard sure sold us a bill of goods with their leader unlimited on the togo
Check Ebay for unlimited grandfathered plans. Just bought a new camper and had to get a new ConnecT 2.0 4G2 and lost my unlimited plan with AT&T. Found one on there.

Yikes! This was SO informative. I am a part-time vandweller who typically boondocks. I use T-Mobile at home (as we have 5 phones on a plan, and it is the least expensive) and I use a pre-paid Verizon hotspot when I'm traveling (plus T-Mobile, of course). I have had an extremely variable experience using a Wilson amplifier, and thanks to you and Technomadia, I now know why. You covered everything in a clear, very organized way, and despite watching a lot of videos I feel that I learned a thing or two. You are a great teacher!

For entry-level mobile internet, rather than a jetpack or hotspot, there's a much more flexible option in the Pepwave MAX BR1 MINI! (changinglanesrv.com/mmh-br1-mini) The MINI is Pepwave's entry-level device and it can accept SIM cards for AT&T or Verizon (and T-Mobile). In fact, it accepts TWO SIM cards at the same time, allowing you to switch back and forth (manually via the management interface) between the two. Pair the Mini with an unlimited data plan and you've got a little more flexibility if you plan on using two carriers as we do. Do you feel that dual LTE modem with failover and the SpeedFusion feature is sufficient for your needs or if you had the opportunity for a model with a quad LTE modem would be the pick? I understand MMH sent you your current internet kit, so not sure if there was a choice provided to you at the time. I appreciate your feedback and hopefully help others who may be contemplating this internet setup decision.
Running longer cables does NOT increase impedance. The impedance of your setup will be and always remain either 50 ohms or 75 ohms, depending on the antenna (which must match the impedance of the cables and device). Running longer cables increases resistance. Resistance is not the same as impedance.

Thank you very much. This video is really helpful. My wife is half American half German, I am German. We are currently planning to travel across the USA by RV and visit every single state, starting Oktober 2021. We run our own consultancy company and therefore we also want to try out if we can work remotely and online from the RV. Kind of ‚work and travel‘. :) So this will be an amazing adventure and an opportunity to learn about how diverse the US actually are and go beyond typical stereotypes. We plan to stay at the US on a quarterly basis, go back to Germany, stay there for another quarter of a year, go back to the US and so on... Therefore the whole journey will take years to complete. Stable Internet will be crucial for our adventure.❤️🇺🇸
A few weeks ago, we ordered the same setup. (Feels good, for once, to know that we didn't *copy* from your videos, but instead arrived at the same setup. "Great minds..." and all that.) Andy at MobileMustHave was absolutely, hands-down amazing in answering my pre-sales technical questions. I'm guessing you ordered yours much sooner, as we are not likely to receive out Road Warrior bundle until mid-July. (At which point we'll be in Sturgis! Spending the month *before* the official dates, leaving on official day #2.) Difference for us will be the installation location. We will likely try to be more centered in the rig. We ripped out the 5-banger sofa, put in a two-person desk. (399TH, so I think our living room and kitchen are swapped from your floor plan.) All the communications are behind the living room TV. The original owner put his WifiRanger and WeBoost behind the TV. I will be expanding upon that. Installing a 16 outlet (2.5" long) power bar, probably mounted to the TV! In the top of the cabinet above the TV is our Drobo, which we've had for years. Couldn't live w/o it. Holes drilled down through the cabinets for the Cat6 and power cable. The WifiRanger is getting ripped out in favor of the 7-wire antenna and Pepwave Duo Transit Max. That will, in whatever configuration, provide the WAN for our Asus RT-AC66U router. Yes, it's another hop, but has been very good to us so far, because the WifiRanger... it's been spotty. And for us, when there IS no campground wifi (we've been fairly fortunate thus far), I have the WifiRanger use our T-Mobile hotspot as the Internet source. (If hooking to just my machine only, I tether instead.) Can't wait to rip out the WifiRanger (or maybe run them side by side for comparison, though likely to use that existing wiring path through the roof). We do work remotely from our rig, like y'all, and I have been blocked by campgrounds for using too much juice (means nice system on their end, to be able to measure), had zero wifi or so bad as to be non-existent and have also simply run out of hotspot data on the T-Mobile (Plus $25 got me another 50GB, though. Whew.) We'll be starting with an AT&T package, like you, since the Verizon packages aren't available right now.
Wow... this is the "ultimate". I thought you were going to talk about Visible and getting internet off their little ZTE cell phone - and you did, in a way. But the spectrum of options now is breathtaking. Were are moving into new dimensions of mobility - terrific!

If that fails to give you any insights, here's tip #2: Help others get what they want/need in life and the money will find you! :-)
Another great video. We are not full time RVers, but we have country internet in the TExas rural countryside. Most of the internet usage before COVID-19 was remote office work over VPN. Then my girls were working from home and it was an issue. We have a reseller AT&T data plan with UBIFI and it works ok. Jitter and Ping can be less than 20ms and download speeds can be 15Mbps - 30Mbps. We use a MoFi4500 Cellular router which takes time and patience to lock in. I was a network engineer designing and maintaining Cisco type gear when I worked. The residential equipment doesn’t give you as much visibility and control into operating the equipment but it is probably okay for most. I also have 36 drops of CAT5 in the house and garage apartment (don’t ask my why except we used to have POTS phone lines spread around). Nice to plug into the wall for available wiring. One thing about the WiFi that comes with these routers is they are not super great. I recently put a pair of Ubiquity Access Points in their office and living room and it boosted the speeds just by giving us better WiFi in the house. Thanks for the link to the MobileMustHaves. Ugh! Boy do I feel stupid. 😣😰 I sure wish I understood all this but I actually only need something that will let me watch stuff on my TV via my phone. My daughter did it on her phone but she left for Germany 6 days ago (she’s a Military Police Officer in the Army) and so now it’s just me. She said all I need is a hot spot on my phone but apparently I can’t just add that myself via the internet. I guess I have to call them. Whelp……we’ll see what happens. Lmao!
You must be stupid either that or you know absolutely nothing about mobile phones or computers because it is one of the easiest things in the world to set up a hotspot on your smartphone because all you have to do is set your smartphone up to look for a connection (you might have to use wifi for this?) and enter a password either one chosen by the phone like mine did which is the Galaxy S7 edge or one you have chosen yourself and that's all and YES it is that simple so I can't see what your problems are unless of course you do not have a smartphone in which case you should either get a smartphone or forget the whole thing because you can only set up a mobile hotspot from a smartphone

One of our biggest challenges is we work for a camping that will allow us to work from home but obviously need to access the internet to do our jobs. Good choice on the Peplink. I use it as well being in the IT/Telco business. I also use a Wingard ConnecT 2.0 4G2 for the kids to use for the TV's and their internet. We don't plan on RV living but I wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy your VLOG! I am an avid motorcycle rider for 52 years and the times on your Indian are extra fun to watch. Many of the areas you travel to I have been to from my Virginia Beach home, riding my Harley from here to them. I have ridden to 49 of 50 states, only missing Hawaii. Your take on some of my favorite areas are great. My favorite ride in the states is Beartooth Pass on the Northeast corner of Yellowstone. It is beautiful. Maybe we will cross paths one day. Be safe.

My hubby and I are planning on moving on to a toy hauler in a year or two. We both work remotely. However, my hubby is in DevOps so “secure” and reliable online access is a must. Luckily for me, he’s an IT super nerd- so that will be one thing we will most certainly have covered- aka, he can deal with that drama. My partner and I are planning on buying an RV in a couple of years as I transfer my practice over to phone sessions and she can work from anywhere. Nice to get both inspired and educated in advance! Keep up the good work. Also, if you ever need some special places to visit in Zion I would be happy to share as I did my geology thesis there and covered just about the entire park and found special trails into the back country where no one seems to go. Great information! I am an EE and new to RVing but when RVing, I don't want to deal with technology. This will all help. One thing to keep in mind with that crank up antenna. If you are in an open site, that antenna is a big lightning rod. It is the tallest thing around. Just be careful when thunderstorms are predicted and lower the antenna just as you might stow your awning until the storm passes.

Awesome setup!!!! I had a 2017 397TH as well. I did a similar setup but I installed all my network/security/cell modem behind the one control center. I powered everything off of the 12v system because most network equipment/security equipment is 12V anyways. All of my security system and networking equipment was hidden. Also, it removed the need for a UPS. I even had a quad WAN with internet failover and repeaters for when a campground had wifi. If one internet connection was lost, it would automatically switch to the other.
Hi and TY for a very informative review of mobile interneting. I personally am not an RV'er anymore, but always interested in new devices and tech for internet service. I have in fact once used my mobile phone to connect to the internet with my Lenovo laptop computer. It did work although speed wasn't really that good, but it does work. Hopefully I will never be in that situation where it's needed. For those who have decided to hit the road full time I think this was a great way to see how to connect to the internet and run your equipment very well. Chad and Tara - we love your channel! I’m so glad you posted about this - we are new to full timing - and our biggest concern second to our black tank is the internet! We have our own small business. So we have hotspots (Verizon and T-Mobile) and an AT&T sim card in our MoFi. It’s been a challenge. We did have Bix - and they had a major outage along with Nomad Internet and OTR when all the AT&T SIM cards were cut off at the stroke of midnight on NYE. I hope one of you guys know about this and can address what happened here.
Yes... These waves of crack-down's by the carriers happen now and again. Luckily the data provider for MMH stayed intact by policing the lines. So, now the "unlimited" plan is really 500GB. But that's plenty for 99%.
@@ChangingLanes are you saying that Mobile Must Have won't have the same issues? I'm a little gun shy now because of the issues. I can't run my business without internet - so we got a direct AT&T plan and my husband put the phone's sim card in an adapter and it is now in our router and that's how we've done a work around. It's been a mess. :)
Also - can you explain what was being done wrong with the companies that are providing these internet plans with sim cards from mobile carriers that caused a *crack down*? I've asked a couple of techy friends if there is something of a scam going on - but nobody seems to know.
From what we've heard, the data providers, who essentially lease the line out, offered them as unlimited and put no caps on them. A few heavy users use a LOT of data and trigger some kind of scrutiny for the provider and the carrier shuts down the whole account, killing all of the leased lines. I think all of the data providers are working in a grey area contract-wise. The provider for MMH was keeping an eye on data usage and shut down just those highly used lines himself (we were one of them). But this kept the overall system up for everyone else. They have since modified the plans to cap them at 500GB. 500GB is WAY more than 99% of people use even when streaming everything, etc. The KEY to uninterrupted mobile internet is to have more than one account with more than one carrier. We have 2 ATT, 1 Verizon, and 1 Sprint (and working on a T-Mobile). We cycle through the accounts depending on what works where we are and that spreads the data use over all 4. Well, mostly 3 because so far Sprint is just about useless everywhere we've tested it. But, we use about 2.5TB/mo backing up all of our video to dropbox. The other benefit of this is carrier diversity. We've been in locations where ONLY one major carrier works. We wouldn't have our grandfathered ATT plan if it weren't for the MIA. Hope that all makes sense.
Great timing and excellent information. I’m in the middle of upgrading my RV internet from a WifiRanger setup similar to yours and this is just what I needed. Also, it helped that you mentioned your experience with campground WiFi as I was still stuck in the mindset that campground WiFi is the best way to go. I don’t know why that was so hard for me to figure out as I’ve only been in one (maybe two) campgrounds where I could stream Internet video reliability. Also, I have AT&T configured iPhones and I really didn’t want to have to switch to another carrier to get better roving Internet. It sounds like yours is a near perfect solution. Again, thanks! Bill
UPDATE (Dec 2020) - The data plans offered via Mobile Must Have changed since the time of this post. The Verizon plans are no longer available and the AT&T plans are no longer unlimited but capped at 500GB. At the moment this is still the highest data allowance out there and 500GB is way more than enough for the vast majority of people. But it is NOT unlimited.
This is not the highest Data allowance out there btw. We are full-time and use Reliable Internet AT&T and have used 1.1TB last month no caps. Just an FYI that there are cheaper and larger capped companies out there.

Way too complicated for this person, but maybe the hot spot and router with booster. We are getting ready to full time. When we were camping the last 2 years, we had a terrible time getting cell or internet. I feel it is imperative to be as connected as i can in case of personal or national, etc. emergencies like weather, quakes, and fires. We live now with fires, and internet can save lives. We thought we were out of the woods one year, and unpacking when i suddenly had 4 messages and 2 calls saying to leave, now! Then the firemen showed up, same message. We left in our slippers, only half packed with no place to go! That's when we bought a truck and trailer! After 4 terrifying evacuations, we haven't had one since we bought the trailer. But you never know. You sleep with an ear open all summer and fall. So, we are leaving asap. But, i must have cell and internet for some peace of mind. Thank you.

I am a 70-year-old disabled man and along with my 75-year-old girlfriend, makeup 'Golden Years Traveling'. Due to the many doctors' appointments, Diana and I each must go to, it is not possible for us to travel fulltime. Due to trying to build a RUclips Channel and needing to stay in touch with all of our Doctors, it is very important to have the best internet service, at a decently priced investment opportunity.

We use a WeBoost with an omnidirectional antenna on AT&T. Being an amateur radio operator I'm able to shoot a line up in a tall tree (about 45' to 65') and hoist the antenna up. With that setup we get great coverage with the AT&T Hotspot and we get cell coverage. Our requirements are not as extensive as yours.

A long time ago, when I was playing with cantennas for wifi range issues, I remember every foot of cable to the antenna was decreasing signal quality. Is this no longer an issue? What cable are you running up to the antenna? 73s!
@@StevenKrzysiak It is true that additional cable will attenuate the signal, but in some cases, getting a signal by gaining altitude means the difference between a signal and no signal. An amplifier can help bring the signal back up to a usable level. I'm also a ham and a EE. Every situation is different. YMMV.

I’m a RF engineer 25 years with one of the largest wireless carriers in US. Chad done a great job explaining the different options here. When Chad talked about MIMO and carrier aggregation he kept it simple but really got the point across for a very complex feature of LTE advance.

I would love to find a decent job and work from home again. I did it for 15 years but tech ended the job entirely. I liked it but missed the people I worked with in the hospitals where I used to work before working at home. It takes discipline but it was great generally.
A little late commenting... This is so vital for running a virtual business from an RV. Our departure date is 7/1/21 and this is a HUGE help in determining budgeting and continuity in internet connections. I love your office too, it kind of blew my mind in order to set up a space for 2 working in the office. We are also looking at tearing out a bunkhouse and outfitting with desks and storage for the business. But the porch on the backside!!!! Sigh! Congrats on 100,000 too!

Thanks for walking through this. We are just part timers so we use a open hot spot and a SIM from T-Mobile. Plan works like your AT&T network. It was a life saver in a little town in Oklahoma. Put it up in the "right" window and we were off. Allowed my AT&T phone to link to my company's e-mail while at our campsite. Plan to work out my RV more in future. You gave some great pointers as we start off on our new adventures.

Just last week we had learned the Togo Roadlink C2 / truly unlimited high speed At&t combo we bought last year retired in January. We used the living mess out of that. We're currently trying to figure out what new direction to take so awesome timing on this video. Thanks man!!
We are in the same position with Togo works for now but we need to figure out something by December 2020. I heard they would unlock Togo for other providers too but carrier rates are currently unaffordable with no data options that are even remotely close to what we have. Wineguard sure sold us a bill of goods with their leader unlimited on the togo
Check Ebay for unlimited grandfathered plans. Just bought a new camper and had to get a new ConnecT 2.0 4G2 and lost my unlimited plan with AT&T. Found one on there.

Yikes! This was SO informative. I am a part-time vandweller who typically boondocks. I use T-Mobile at home (as we have 5 phones on a plan, and it is the least expensive) and I use a pre-paid Verizon hotspot when I'm traveling (plus T-Mobile, of course). I have had an extremely variable experience using a Wilson amplifier, and thanks to you and Technomadia, I now know why. You covered everything in a clear, very organized way, and despite watching a lot of videos I feel that I learned a thing or two. You are a great teacher!

For entry-level mobile internet, rather than a jetpack or hotspot, there's a much more flexible option in the Pepwave MAX BR1 MINI! (changinglanesrv.com/mmh-br1-mini) The MINI is Pepwave's entry-level device and it can accept SIM cards for AT&T or Verizon (and T-Mobile). In fact, it accepts TWO SIM cards at the same time, allowing you to switch back and forth (manually via the management interface) between the two. Pair the Mini with an unlimited data plan and you've got a little more flexibility if you plan on using two carriers as we do.

Do you feel that dual LTE modem with failover and the SpeedFusion feature is sufficient for your needs or if you had the opportunity for a model with a quad LTE modem would be the pick? I understand MMH sent you your current internet kit, so not sure if there was a choice provided to you at the time. I appreciate your feedback and hopefully help others who may be contemplating this internet setup decision.
Running longer cables does NOT increase impedance. The impedance of your setup will be and always remain either 50 ohms or 75 ohms, depending on the antenna (which must match the impedance of the cables and device).
Running longer cables increases resistance. Resistance is not the same as impedance.

We are currently planning to travel across the USA by RV and visit every single state, starting Oktober 2021. We run our own consultancy company and therefore we also want to try out if we can work remotely and online from the RV. Kind of ‚work and travel‘. :) So this will be an amazing adventure and an opportunity to learn about how diverse the US actually are and go beyond typical stereotypes. We plan to stay at the US on a quarterly basis, go back to Germany, stay there for another quarter of a year, go back to the US and so on... Therefore the whole journey will take years to complete. Stable Internet will be crucial for our adventure.❤️🇺🇸

A few weeks ago, we ordered the same setup. (Feels good, for once, to know that we didn't *copy* from your videos, but instead arrived at the same setup. "Great minds..." and all that.) Andy at MobileMustHave was absolutely, hands-down amazing in answering my pre-sales technical questions. I'm guessing you ordered yours much sooner, as we are not likely to receive out Road Warrior bundle until mid-July. (At which point we'll be in Sturgis! Spending the month *before* the official dates, leaving on official day #2.)
Difference for us will be the installation location. We will likely try to be more centered in the rig. We ripped out the 5-banger sofa, put in a two-person desk. (399TH, so I think our living room and kitchen are swapped from your floor plan.) All the communications are behind the living room TV. The original owner put his WifiRanger and WeBoost behind the TV. I will be expanding upon that. Installing a 16 outlet (2.5" long) power bar, probably mounted to the TV! In the top of the cabinet above the TV is our Drobo, which we've had for years. Couldn't live w/o it. Holes drilled down through the cabinets for the Cat6 and power cable. The WifiRanger is getting ripped out in favor of the 7-wire antenna and Pepwave Duo Transit Max. That will, in whatever configuration, provide the WAN for our Asus RT-AC66U router. Yes, it's another hop, but has been very good to us so far, because the WifiRanger... it's been spotty. And for us, when there IS no campground wifi (we've been fairly fortunate thus far), I have the WifiRanger use our T-Mobile hotspot as the Internet source. (If hooking to just my machine only, I tether instead.)
Can't wait to rip out the WifiRanger (or maybe run them side by side for comparison, though likely to use that existing wiring path through the roof). We do work remotely from our rig, like y'all, and I have been blocked by campgrounds for using too much juice (means nice system on their end, to be able to measure), had zero wifi or so bad as to be non-existent and have also simply run out of hotspot data on the T-Mobile (Plus $25 got me another 50GB, though. Whew.) We'll be starting with an AT&T package, like you, since the Verizon packages aren't available right now.

Another great video. We are not full time RVers, but we have country internet in the TExas rural countryside. Most of the internet usage before COVID-19 was remote office work over VPN. Then my girls were working from home and it was an issue. We have a reseller AT&T data plan with UBIFI and it works ok. Jitter and Ping can be less than 20ms and download speeds can be 15Mbps - 30Mbps. We use a MoFi4500 Cellular router which takes time and patience to lock in. I was a network engineer designing and maintaining Cisco type gear when I worked. The residential equipment doesn’t give you as much visibility and control into operating the equipment but it is probably okay for most. I also have 36 drops of CAT5 in the house and garage apartment (don’t ask my why except we used to have POTS phone lines spread around). Nice to plug into the wall for available wiring. One thing about the WiFi that comes with these routers is they are not super great. I recently put a pair of Ubiquity Access Points in their office and living room and it boosted the speeds just by giving us better WiFi in the house. Thanks for the link to the MobileMustHaves. I have bookmarked that as I would really love to have good engineering support when I am puzzled by a problem. Thanks again for such a great video. Wave to us when you travel TExas this year! Cheers!

My daughter did it on her phone but she left for Germany 6 days ago (she’s a Military Police Officer in the Army) and so now it’s just me. You must be stupid either that or you know absolutely nothing about mobile phones or computers because it is one of the easiest things in the world to set up a hotspot on your smartphone because all you have to do is set your smartphone up to look for a connection (you might have to use wifi for this?) and enter a password either one chosen by the phone like mine did which is the Galaxy S7 edge or one you have chosen yourself and that's all and YES it is that simple so I can't see what your problems are unless of course you do not have a smartphone in which case you should either get a smartphone or forget the whole thing because you can only set up a mobile hotspot from a smartphone

Thanks for all e information. We are slowly trying to get ready to transition to full time RV living. One of our biggest challenges is we work for a camping that will allow us to work from home but obviously need to access the internet to do our jobs. We need something that will allow bit of us to work 8 hours a day 5 days a week. This is definitely work us looking into. Thanks again!!!!
Good choice on the Peplink. I use it as well being in the IT/Telco business. I also use a Wingard ConnecT 2.0 4G2 for the kids to use for the TV's and their internet. Just bought a toy hauler and new truck. Looking forward to spending more time on the road. Hope to run into you someday! Bet you are checking the Peplink site everyday for the new 5G routers! We don't plan on RV living but I wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy your VLOG! I am an avid motorcycle rider for 52 years and the times on your Indian are extra fun to watch. Many of the areas you travel to I have been to from my Virginia Beach home, riding my Harley from here to them. I have ridden to 49 of 50 states, only missing Hawaii. Your take on some of my favorite areas are great. My favorite ride in the states is Beartooth Pass on the Northeast corner of Yellowstone. It is beautiful. Maybe we will cross paths one day. Be safe.

My hubby and I are planning on moving on to a toy hauler in a year or two. We both work remotely. However, my hubby is in DevOps so “secure” and reliable online access is a must. I need internet but just want a pre-packaged Internet kit (ready to go out of the box) to do conference calls and work 9-5 on an intranet. Basic Router with 2 sim cards, Hot spot? Booster Antenna... all for TV streaming, work PC, and Phone. Bam!, Done. Appreciate your passion...

So much fun watching your videos. Nice blend of adventure and information. I loved your Sedona/Jerome trip as I worked for Red Rock Jeep Tours while living in Sedona. My partner and I are planning on buying an RV in a couple of years as I transfer my practice over to phone sessions and she can work from anywhere. Nice to get both inspired and educated in advance! Keep up the good work. Also, if you ever need some special places to visit in Zion I would be happy to share as I did my geology thesis there and covered just about the entire park and found special trails into the back country where no one seems to go. Great information! I am an EE and new to RVing but when RVing, I don't want to deal with technology. This will all help. One thing to keep in mind with that crank up antenna. If you are in an open site, that antenna is a big lightning rod. It is the tallest thing around. Just be careful when thunderstorms are predicted and lower the antenna just as you might stow your awning until the storm passes.

Awesome setup!!!! I had a 2017 397TH as well. I did a similar setup but I installed all my network/security/cell modem behind the one control center. I powered everything off of the 12v system because most network equipment/security equipment is 12V anyways. All of my security system and networking equipment was hidden. Also, it removed the need for a UPS. I even had a quad WAN with internet failover and repeaters for when a campground had wifi. If one internet connection was lost, it would automatically switch to the other.
Great video. I’ll be semi retired in 2 years but still working part time in the manufacturing industry from our full time RV home.

Hi and TY for a very informative review of mobile interneting. I personally am not an RV'er anymore, but always interested in new devices and tech for internet service. I have in fact once used my mobile phone to connect to the internet with my Lenovo laptop computer. It did work although speed wasn't really that good, but it does work. Hopefully I will never be in that situation where it's needed. For those who have decided to hit the road full time I think this was a great way to see how to connect to the internet and run your equipment very well. As a Canadian RVer, I feel a little left out, but we'll catch up in 5 years or so. :-( Also, I am impressed with your workspace and computer equipment and setup. I am a retired systems/software analyst. I would love to see a virtual tour of that as well one day (although, understandably, it may be your proprietary secret!). You've got a phenomenal setup for any business office, let alone one inside an RV! Nicely done.

Chad and Tara - we love your channel! I’m so glad you posted about this - we are new to full timing - and our biggest concern second to our black tank is the internet! We have our own small business. So we have hotspots (Verizon and T-Mobile) and an AT&T sim card in our MoFi. It’s been a challenge. We did have Bix - and they had a major outage along with Nomad Internet and OTR when all the AT&T SIM cards were cut off at the stroke of midnight on NYE. I hope one of you guys know about this and can address what happened here.
Yes... These waves of crack-down's by the carriers happen now and again. Luckily the data provider for MMH stayed intact by policing the lines. So, now the "unlimited" plan is really 500GB. But that's plenty for 99%.
@@ChangingLanes are you saying that Mobile Must Have won't have the same issues? I'm a little gun shy now because of the issues. I can't run my business without internet - so we got a direct AT&T plan and my husband put the phone's sim card in an adapter and it is now in our router and that's how we've done a work around. It's been a mess. :)
Also - can you explain what was being done wrong with the companies that are providing these internet plans with sim cards from mobile carriers that caused a *crack down*? I've asked a couple of techy friends if there is something of a scam going on - but nobody seems to know.
From what we've heard, the data providers, who essentially lease the line out, offered them as unlimited and put no caps on them. A few heavy users use a LOT of data and trigger some kind of scrutiny for the provider and the carrier shuts down the whole account, killing all of the leased lines. I think all of the data providers are working in a grey area contract-wise.
The provider for MMH was keeping an eye on data usage and shut down just those highly used lines himself (we were one of them). But this kept the overall system up for everyone else. They have since modified the plans to cap them at 500GB. 500GB is WAY more than 99% of people use even when streaming everything, etc.
The KEY to uninterrupted mobile internet is to have more than one account with more than one carrier. We have 2 ATT, 1 Verizon, and 1 Sprint (and working on a T-Mobile). We cycle through the accounts depending on what works where we are and that spreads the data use over all 4. Well, mostly 3 because so far Sprint is just about useless everywhere we've tested it. But, we use about 2.5TB/mo backing up all of our video to dropbox.
The other benefit of this is carrier diversity. We've been in locations where ONLY one major carrier works.

Whenever a new plan comes out, or a plan is about to change, etc, they alert all members. We wouldn't have our grandfathered ATT plan if it weren't for the MIA.

Great timing and excellent information. I’m in the middle of upgrading my RV internet from a WifiRanger setup similar to yours and this is just what I needed. Also, it helped that you mentioned your experience with campground WiFi as I was still stuck in the mindset that campground WiFi is the best way to go. I don’t know why that was so hard for me to figure out as I’ve only been in one (maybe two) campgrounds where I could stream Internet video reliability. Also, I have AT&T configured iPhones and I really didn’t want to have to switch to another carrier to get better roving Internet. It sounds like yours is a near perfect solution. Again, thanks!
