    I am a radio announcer and have a Rodecaster Pro with Podmic. I am satisfied with its performance so far. I use it for Studio to transmitter link (STL) of radio station. During this pandemic, I have to do my job from home. Rodecaster Pro helps me a lot because of its performance that close to the broadcast standard quality.

    but does it have functions of tradition analog/digital mixer (for example: reverb, loopback, ...etc.) or EQ (detail adjustment at each sound zone: high-end, mid, low-end) ?

      Unfortunately, it doesn't. This is really marketed to the voice podcaster. Their Livetrak L-8 may have more of those kinds of features.

    But the zoom doesn’t have nearly the same live processing ?

    • @HarrisonFamilyValues

      No. The Rodecaster is certainly still king, but the P8 is not a bad option because it give podcasters and live streamers what they need to produce a great quality podcast

    I have a question that I don't fully know how to ask. I normally play videos from youtube on my podcast and on the rodecaster the sound from the video plays on a mixing channel where I can control the volume of the audio from the video with a fader . This simply just worked by me plugging the rodecaster up as an audio interface , nothing else was needed. Will this work with the zoom ? Can I just plug it into my computer and have audio from my computer show up on a track. Hope my question makes sense. Great Video and Thank You

    • @HarrisonFamilyValues
      @HarrisonFamilyValues  3 года назад +1

      Hi, thanks for commenting. Yes, this operates as a plug and play. Before I got this I bought the Tascam Model 12, and although it's a monster machine, it wasn't plug and play. This met my needs. If you already have the Rodecaster Pro then stick with that. The functionalities of both are too similar to make a change from one to the other.

    One correction. The rodecaster has 8 pads 8 banks so total of 64 sounds, if you need that many, regardless it has more sound options than the PodTrak 8 which only has 36 sounds options.
    Also I may be wrong on this but I know the rodecaster has 512gb built in memory for assigning sounds to the sound pad and I believe in order to save your customer sounds on the PodTrak you have to save it to the memory card so if you use a different memory card to record or format the memory card with the sound files on it they will not show up on the PodTrak sound pad.
    I personally prefer the rodecaster just because of the noise gate and other filters that are built in.
    But many people have different things they are looking for in recording equipment so either one will do fine for 90% of the people podcasting or live streaming so you can’t go wrong with either one.

    • @HarrisonFamilyValues
      @HarrisonFamilyValues  3 года назад

      Wow I didn't know that, 64 sounds, although may be overkill, is a nice featured option.

  • @sirgigolo

    Does it have the effects that the rodecaster pro has? And can you use them all at once? The adapter is a non factor. The P8 seems nice though. But that compressor and aphex effect chain is dope

    • @HarrisonFamilyValues
      @HarrisonFamilyValues  4 года назад

      Hey Get Hype! Media, are you talking about voice effects?

    • @daprincehwc
      @daprincehwc 4 года назад +1

      trust me I did compare the two machine, they both have same effect but in the rode you can fine tune all the effects, in the zoom p8 it either boost or cut on or off but to my surprise it work even better than the rode
      I did voice record on both using the same mic, they sound really good but the zoom sound cleaner and I assume is because of the pre amp on the zoom, the rode use too much expander/gate that similar to that of dbx 286s you can hear it working hard to hide the noise, maybe with fine tune it could be better , but right out of the box the zoom sound cleaner, even though it sound noisy during record listening through head phone, but way better when play back.

    I like your content and the Zoom Podtrak P8 seems like a great console however, many people are saying that the sound affects and the big bottom and ap hex makes the rodecaster shine. It seems to me that the rodecaster has more radio quality sound with the features it offers. Also I heard the zoom p8 is more of a plastic build than the rodecaster

    • @HarrisonFamilyValues

      Those are true. Its a metal/plastic with the body metal and faders plastic.

    1) Most people (probably) won't need the extra mic inputs.
    2) If you’re choosing a unit based upon the size of the SD Card… your priorities are a bit skewed (IMO).
    A) After adding bluetooth ($50) to the PODTRAK P8 unit ($550), the prices are the same for each unit-600 USD.
    B) The PODTRAK P8 only allows recording in 16-bit / 44.1 kHz. Syncing to video, that's outrageous!
    C) Compared to RODE, Zoom Corp. is not known for customer support and/or upgrading units.

    Once you pay for the Bluetooth module, which in my mind is ridiculous, you've practically bought the Rode. Each has its strengths and weaknesses but they're minimal. The Rode could do a better job at file management and editing, which can be a simple firmware update, but the Zoom could never update its plastic design. So while its a nice "idea" that its portable and battery capable, one drop on a concrete floor will make anyone think twice about how much money they thought they saved. Better to just think ahead and spend the extra dough on a decent case and cut some streaming services for a few months to save up for it.

  • @daprincehwc

    even though I like the zoom for cleaner sound than rode, ill give it to rode for internal storage for your import sound tracks or jingles .
    also the fact that zoom roll out this (could have been awesome) machine with cd quality is a big flaw in this day and age rolling out 44.1kHz spr @ 16 bit is a bad idea from rode, at least give option of 48kHz 24bit what make it too difficult to make the mater worse zoom given 3.5mm headphone jack? I rest my case.

    None the reasons you give are valid
    1) nobody has a podcast with 6 ppl
    2) You never have to take the SD card out, just use the built-in transfer mode
    3) nobody uses 36 sound effects in one podcast. Especially when you can create new banks
    4) the savings is more or less $20. After they cheapened themselves out of Bluetooth capabilities, and the other 2 adapters. (Bluetooth $50+$30 for the other adapters).
    Answer this, would you buy a car without handsfree calling for $20 difference? Not to mention the lesser audio quality that Prince HWC talked about 44.1 kHz @ 16 bits vs 48 kHz @ 24 bits. Plus 3.5 mm jack instead of 1/4 in.

      Thanks for your comment. My reasons aren't valid for your needs, and if so I respect that. For those in my circle, this will meet their needs and then some. I would recommend you should certainly share on your own channel why you think the Rodecaster Pro is a much better buy for podcasters, I'd definitely watch it. I also said that the Rodecaster Pro is a great machine. Did I say that they should not consider the Rodecaster Pro, Nope. Drop your experience with the Rodecaster Pro and I will watch and support your video.
