Duuude! the 2:29 Mix-Minus feature you shared = absolute #GOLD - especially for managing Clubhouse rooms! wow. i'm so stoked i watched your 5 tips video here!
1. set to watch later, 2. binge watch this later 3. post this in community section for the winners who received a RCP already from Savvy to binge watch it too. Awesome Tom everything you produce is awesome!
Appreciate the mention! Rodecaster + iPhone is you level up your Clubhouse audio. I agree with it being a great purchase. Best thing I’ve picked up in the past few years.
looking forward to your Club rooms @Dee Nimmin & having you on as my guest on my new Clubhouse Conversations Podcast to talk about using RODECaster Pro w/ Clubhouse - you've got such awesome tips!
Just got my setup complete: Shure SM7B, Gator Frameworks 3000 boom arm, Cloudlifter C-1, RodeCasterPro and Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones. Loving these help videos!
Aloha Tom, I REALLY enjoyed your video on the RCP. I am the founder of a non-profit community broadcasting company on Hawaii Island and have been seeing so many videos on the RCP, but by far, yours is the most detailed without over-flooding us viewers with info. Very cheerful and I am looking forward to viewing more of your videos! I am getting my RCP This Friday the 14th of January, I can't wait! I feel after watching your videos I will be ready!
When I started podcasting in 2007 I never imagined there would be such a device that could do everything the rodecaster can do. It is truly an amazing piece of tech. Highly recommended.
@@Podcastforthewin Be thankful! So much great technology & information at our fingertips!! We were driving blind back then. I wish you well with your podcast!!!
It's pretty crazy. Whenever someone complains about the price, I just think back to what it was like way back when and appreciate what this thing can do.
@@tombuck Easily would have been double the price back then, easily. I had a Mackie mixer that did maybe half of what the rodecaster can do and that was $700 on its own. The effects you'd have to buy rack mounted likely so each of those are $200-300 a piece then a rack mount. I could go on and on!!
Wow, thanks for the shout out Tom! 🙌🏽💯 Appreciate the support! Awesome video as always! It’s been an awesome tool in Clubhouse and content creation. I love the Rodecaster Pro!
I use mine for broadcasting live college basketball for an NAIA university. I LOVE it. The buttons are used to fire off commercials during media timeouts, and the built-in compression helps during exciting moments and prevents huge spikes in mic level. The bluetooth is also great in case I've prerecorded an interview on my phone and need to play it back live. I can highly recommend its use for live settings.
Excellent Video as always Tom , could you possibly do a video as how to use it for a small online radio station, I have seen one , but yours are so clear and concise , I worked in radio in the UK many years ago and now thinking of setting up a small station as a hobby .
Hmm, that's interesting. My radio experience is pretty limited and dated, so I'm not sure if I'm qualified to speak on that. I know about building a podcast workflow around the RCP, which might be somewhat similar.
@@tombuck Morning I have emailed you but basically how to connect to play out system ...would the fader start source ect and would it be up to job. Thanks for replying
Hey Tom! Just bought an Open Box RodeCaster From Ebay for my Syndicated Music Countdown, which will be aired on 100’s of great radio stations from coast to coast, and the reason I decided to buy the RodeCaster is it simplifies my work flow, verses manually inputting sound into a DAW. and the audio quality is amazing on the RodeCaster Pro+
Thanks for all the tips as always. I used the rodecaster for a 10hr livestream, the ability to toggle between taking calls, playing music, and my sound board makes the rodecaster irreplaceable. Great tips!
Thank you for this video. When I first started watching this video, I thought, "I have had the RodeCaster Pro long enough that I know all that he is about to tell me", then you talked about USB Mix/Minus and then I got an answer to a problem of my audience not hearing my guest in a Zoom Interview. I classic case of Know-It-All Syndrome. Thank you, Tom.
Yes. This video is much more valuable for me than a RCP 2 wishlist would have been. Now I want one even more instead of feeling the need to wait on a newer version that may never come. Fantastic as always.
Huge fan of this podcast man, I can only hop you are dropping tons of affiliate links and make a small fortune for all of the knowledge bombs you drop my man! Much appreciated
Thank you! Fortunately affiliate links have been really helpful for me. I'd never make a video just for the sake of posting links, but since I do talk about a lot of gear, it's a natural fit and it's a win-win for everyone.
Tom's got BARS for this intro!! Also, thanks for the influence on the Rodecaster Pro. Just got one a week ago and loving it already, learning with every video.
I got the Rodecaster Pro to do a podcast together with my wife and it is just such a great tool. As you said, the sound of the headphones is not good, especially when you have a music track. It doesn't fit in with the quality of all the other parts. Rode should really fix that for the next version. This week I was interviewed by a radio station. I had the call of the journalist on the TRRS input from my iPhone and my voice on the mic input and had the Rodecaster set to multitrack recording on USB. After that I used Audacity to extract the two tracks and sent the WAV file to the journalist. She confirmed that she now has my voice in studio quality to use for her radio feature. A big thanks to you, Tom, for your videos that helped me a lot in the preparation for my podcast and for the video livestreams that I also do now (bought a Rodecaster Pro and an ATEM Mini Pro ...). You have a good style of explaining things, your English is very clear so we non-native speakers can understand it and I like your humor and your playing with words (you really give sound advice :-) And, I admit it, I also got a blue XLR cable for my desk mic. My wife, however, liked yellow better than purple :-)
I knew next to nothing on the technical aspects of putting out a podcast; I just knew I was going to start one. Your vids have been real instrumental in my learning all the in's and out's, what gear to take a look at, what to consider in mics and how to get my message out there. I'm real appreciative you're out there so thanks for the hard work. I won't be tacky and plug my channel in the comment but I followed your tips how to get it out there and now it's time for me to be consistent and work on building my audience. Thanks for all the tips!
Thank you so much. I have had the Rødecaster pro for two years and could never find out what the mix minus meant and when I could use it. This is the first explaination that I understood
It can really make you feel crazy! I've talked to Rode about it on multiple occasions, so while I don't think there's anything that can be done to fix it, hopefully they address it in future products.
Hey Tom ! Yesterday I received my Rødecaster Pro and my mic too. I got the EV ER20 and the sound right out of this setup, without any post processing, is astonishing ! So I wanted to thank you for your great videos since they helped a lot to make up my mind.
I started watching vids on this last night. I am getting one in a few hours "new" off Craigslist for $450. I did my due diligence... They own a mortgage company in Santa Clarita, CA (nice non-diverse crime free area), they bought it new from Best Buy in Aug 2021, still in packaging, they have the receipt and it will still have 6+ months of warranty. When I called them they were with their kids headed to a museum downtown (Sunday). I didn't want a used or refurbished one and I didn't really wanna spend $660. So I think I won! Also note: I have been using Craigslist in Los Angeles for 20 years and have NEVER had a bad experience. (probably because I can smell a scam from a mile away)
This sounds like an awesome deal! Hope you enjoy it! I've definitely known people who got excited, bought a bunch of gear, and literally never used it, so I believe it when you say it's still new 👍
Thanks for the tips, and I know exactly what you mean about the effects. When I got my RCP last year, I cranked the effects up to 11. Then sense kicked in (and Rode published the individual videos on each effect), so I reset the effects and started again with them going much more subtle this time (and I backed up the settings when I was happy so I could revert if I messed up again!). I’m now publishing 3 podcast episodes a week thanks to the RCP, and thanks to you for all your videos extolling its virtues!
I love my Rodecaster. I use it for audiobook recordings and radio shows. I always go straight to Adobe Audition and keep all processing off so perhaps it is overkill for my needs, but I still love it.
I say it b4 and Still my favorite RUclips channel and I purchase rodecaster pro and use it for every audios from 1 year now because your recommendation and I appreciate it . And also I am in love with it because all simple use and strong features and also with the supporting stuff who always hear what we need and added many features but and big thing i miss it in this beast is the audio routing like Goxlr and if they add it the rodecaster pro will be the most complete audio mixer was ever made .
Pun Markers: 0:12 - 5/10 always a good start 2:30 - 8/10 ok good one 8:44 - 8/10 nothing to add 9:15 - 10/10 the best one yet, subtle but gold 14:49 - 7/10 good final Hey great ratings today!
Hey Tom! Great video as usual! This is the perfect opportunity for me to say THANK YOU for all the help and inspiration you've given me since I subbed your channel many months ago. I got the Rodecaster because of you (as well as a whole load of other gear haha) and I absolutely love using it for my work which includes running a large Performing and Digital Media Arts Academy remotely and teaching my students in style! But you also gave me the confidence to start my podcast which is a huge source of fun for me and I'm soon gonna start a RUclips channel as well. You have a way of making people believe they can actually do stuff they want to try and it's just been awesome to be on the receiving end of it! Best wishes from Germany!
@@tombuck Sure thing Tom. And yeah... I have 2 EOS R's as well 😂 . I use them practically every day and absolutely love the experience for photos and video. So easy to use, reliable and unbeatable value when purchased 2nd hand 'like new'. 👍
I don’t own a Rode Caster and don’t plan to get one. Still watched the entire video and enjoyed it very much. You talked about the Rode Caster so often on your videos and podcasts I was wondering why you didn’t create such a tips tricks video already 😀 Have a nice day mate and can’t wait your next piece of content 🤤😁
Glad you liked it! I thought I had already shared these, but then I realized they were just trapped in my brain and that it was probably time to set them free. 😬
Thanks for the great content in this video, and your RUclips content in general. As for the RODEcaster, I love it. I reluctantly spent the money because the RODEcaster was loaded with so many desirable features. But what really pleased me was the quality of the pre-amps. I was confident that they'd be OK, but they are REALLY GOOD. I bought a Dynamite SE in line preamp for my gain hungry EV320 mic, but the RODEcaster provides plenty of clean, crisp gain by itself. THANKS AGAIN for your helpful content.
@14:03 I agree and struggle with the price argument. I will only be recording a single mic with a single headphone and when I start pricing out a setup that is tailored to what I will get out of the Rodecaster Pro, the hundred or so dollars I save leaves me with a lot more equipment to hook up and monitor with more complicated setup and adjustments and still doesn't give me the results that I get with the Rodecaster Pro. As much as I wish Rode would create a paired down/smaller version with 1 or 2 XLR inputs and maybe half the sound pads for around $400, I know it's still worth it to save up the extra money and just pick up the Rodecaster Pro.
Every time you have a video on the RCP, I end up wanting it more and more. I edit three podcasts on my network but only appear in one so probably not time to upgrade yet considering I just did a few months ago but I am blown away by all the features this thing packs.
This video is really good! I use the rode for podcasts only. I use my zoom p8 for zoom calls and interviewing people for my radio show. Your channel is really good! You seem like you would be a good teacher. User friendly with your words.
@@tombuck I got it because of the live streaming I do on clubhouse daily. I used it for the first time a few days ago! I LOVE IT! Super excited to drill down on all of the tools that it provides #WeAllNeedSomeHelp
Does mix minus work with livestreams? Example if one was to take call-ins without wearing headphones but want listeners to hear the call internally not being picked up by the mic from speakers
Hey, Tom. How long do you have the RCP powered on each day? I've had mine for a couple of years, but I only turn it on when I need it. Have you noticed any screen burn in or anything? Thanks.
Man... so tempted to get one of these. I don't REALLY need it but my G.A.S. speaks very loud at the moment 😂 Hy my name is Alex and I haven't purchased any new gear for 2 weeks. (everyone claps vigorously)
Hi Tom, I just bought a SamsungS21 cell. I used a TRRS to TRRS cable I bought from Rode to do interviews through my cell. Unfortunately there isn't any plug in port on my new cell. Is there an adapter? THANKS!!!!!
I’m glad they have the re20 as a mic option in the settings, I found that worked perfectly. Only thing I need to adjust is the noise gate and compression. Oh and maybe the ducking feature needs to be global on the board, not just through the 4 main xlr channels
@@HennyThaBizness and @Tom Buck-- Yep, you have to add it to the cart and make the purchase. The RCP is a great device and it keeps getting better and better as people discover more uses! Great video Tom-- You just always rock!
I just learned how the mix minus works recently. I was having an issue where when I do interviews on my livestream, my guest would be echoing. Oddly, I didn’t have this problem at first so I was under the impression that the mix/minus just worked out the box. I’m not sure what changed, but now I see that there’s a switch that has to flipped to stop the echoing. Only problem with having the M/M switch on is that if you play audio through the USB while the mix minus is on your guest won’t be able to hear it!
Yeah, that's where it get's tricky. If you want to minus them but still have them hear everything, it takes a bit of experimentation with whichever app you're using. I still scratch my head several times a week after messing something up on accident 😬
I have never used a cable connecting my iPhone into the RCP. I am connected through Bluetooth and I haven't had *any* issues. I use it for conference calls every day.
Hi Tom, love your videos! In the above at 5:30 you mention how you use mute/solo to achieve a manual mix minus and mention the benefit if his local recording vs (FaceTime !?) Why not just use Riverside/Squadcast/Cleanfeed ?
One day I will get one....so useful for live streams and stuff. You are very good at those rode caster videos 😉 haven’t commented in a while sorry bro!
RØDECaster Pro - 3 Mini tips 1. Phone calls Just like Tom mentioned with trrs adapter you can use it for phone calls on your iPhone (lightning adapter) or Android (USB C adapter) Why? A) Have good sound during phone call, sometimes there are issues with bluetooth headset (other party will never complain they can’t hear you properly) if run via RØDECaster B) Hit the record button - if you need to record the conversation 2. Red button Did you know when you turn it off you don’t need to confirm yes ? Just click the red button again and it turns off 3. Don’t let the loudspeakers PLOP When turning on: RØDECaster first then the speakers When turning off: Speakers first then RØDECaster Not sure if the loud PLOP comes with all speakers but definitely with active ones @TomBuck - what speakers are you using?
Hi Tom, loved the video. I’ve recently bought the Rodecaster Pro and don’t know how to turn off voice monitoring (hearing myself through my microphone). Please help. Thank you.
Loving your videos sir. Always very informative and I like some of the jokes as well...lol. Did you ever get a chance to or plan to test the zoom podtrak p8 ? Thanks

I don’t even own a rodecaster pro but still watched the whole video! Great tips, Tom!
This is what I like to hear!
(not that you don't have a Rodecaster...but that you watched the video)
@@tombuck I would love to have the rodecaster pro and maybe the podmic but just can’t afford it at the moment haha
Thank you so much! Answered many questions I had. All your videos are so very helpful!
Thank you for the kind words! I wonder if that's a feature that could be added via firmware or if it's a hardware thing?
I got one last year for a podcast I host with my friend! It’s fantastic would highly recommend!
Excellent friendly presentation style really learnt a lot thanks
Thank you! That’s really nice to hear.
Sweet video and very informative Tom. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Another great video Tom!
Thanks so much!
Greetings from Morocco !
Great video as usual. Thanks for the tips Tom!
Thank you so much!
Pun Markers:
0:12 - 5/10 always a good start
2:30 - 8/10 ok good one
8:44 - 8/10 nothing to add
9:15 - 10/10 the best one yet, subtle but gold
14:49 - 7/10 good final
Hey great ratings today!
Yes! My best showing so far! 💪
Thats exactly what I need for my videos. Thanks for the information.
Glad to help!
Best Audio/Video/Live Streaming Channel I know. Keep it up! 😊
I would love to own a Rodecaster 😑! Hopefully one day :)
Thank you! Hopefully you get your RCP sooner rather than later!
@@tombuck Thanks!!
Thanks for the help on the headphone noise tip - I thought it was just me going crazy.
You may be crazy, but it's definitely not because of this 😉
Great tips + guidance. My Rodecaster ships 2moro. Stoked to get my hands on it and start learning.
Oh, you'll have so much fun!
Awesome as always. Thank you Tom.
I appreciate you being here each week and just being awesome all around.
Wow thank you! This is incredible to hear. I hope you know I'm saving the comment so I can look at it whenever I question myself. Thank you so much.
@@tombuck Sure thing Tom. And yeah... I have 2 EOS R's as well 😂 . I use them practically every day and absolutely love the experience for photos and video. So easy to use, reliable and unbeatable value when purchased 2nd hand 'like new'. 👍
Always enjoy your videos man. These are so helpful, as you know, the Rodecaster Pro has been a struggle to fully understand as a streamer! Thanks bro!
Glad they’ve been helpful!
I don’t own a Rode Caster and don’t plan to get one.
Still watched the entire video and enjoyed it very much. You talked about the Rode Caster so often on your videos and podcasts I was wondering why you didn’t create such a tips tricks video already 😀
Have a nice day mate and can’t wait your next piece of content 🤤😁
Glad you liked it! I thought I had already shared these, but then I realized they were just trapped in my brain and that it was probably time to set them free. 😬
Tom this video is very useful! Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome!
I agree absolutely. I couldn’t believe how quiet the preamps were when I first got it.
On the iPhone piece, I’ve been using it from day one through Bluetooth and it’s been great.
Use it in clubhouse, IG Live, etc.
That's awesome!
This whole time, I had no idea what the green ear button was. Hahaha. Great tips as always!
Haha, they're incredibly helpful! And thank you again for all the merch! I believe I have a package to pick up today.
If you know you're going to be staying solo, something like the Zoom P4 might be a good in between option.
The Decksaver is a GREAT addition to any Rodecaster! And an awesome place for stickers ;)
Yes! I love it.
Love showing the settings-- all the effects turned on. I haven't played with that.
It's a fine line 😁
Love my Rodecaster!!
Awesome as always!
Thanks as always!
Every time you have a video on the RCP, I end up wanting it more and more. I edit three podcasts on my network but only appear in one so probably not time to upgrade yet considering I just did a few months ago but I am blown away by all the features this thing packs.
One day I'll convert you.
Thank you so much! You're a blessing!
I really appreciate the kind words! 🙏
This video is really good! I use the rode for podcasts only. I use my zoom p8 for zoom calls and interviewing people for my radio show. Your channel is really good! You seem like you would be a good teacher. User friendly with your words.
Appreciate all the information bro… Super helpful ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
Awesome! Hope you’re getting good use out of the RCP!
Hmm, that's a little tricky. I believe the answer is yes, but things always take some experimenting when external speakers are involved.
Love Mix Minus!
The best!
Thanks you FOR this very good vídeo. Have a good continuation,🧡👍
Thank you 🙏
Hey, Tom. How long do you have the RCP powered on each day? I've had mine for a couple of years, but I only turn it on when I need it. Have you noticed any screen burn in or anything? Thanks.
It varies, but it’s not uncommon to have it on for 5-10 hours Monday through Friday. No screen burn in or any other issues yet 👍
great video Tom!
Man... so tempted to get one of these. I don't REALLY need it but my G.A.S. speaks very loud at the moment 😂
Hy my name is Alex and I haven't purchased any new gear for 2 weeks. (everyone claps vigorously)
GAS is incurable I've found. But good job on resisting!
Bro, you really laid the cheese on thick in this one! LOL Great info, Tom and entertaining as always. You really... creamed the corn... with this one.
I'm genuinely flattered.
Hi Tom, I just bought a SamsungS21 cell. I used a TRRS to TRRS cable I bought from Rode to do interviews through my cell. Unfortunately there isn't any plug in port on my new cell. Is there an adapter? THANKS!!!!!
I'm not super familiar with Samsun phones, but I know Apple has an adapter, so I'm sure there's got to be one.
@@tombuck Called Rode...they told me it's an adapter called USBC to headphone adapter.
I’m glad they have the re20 as a mic option in the settings, I found that worked perfectly. Only thing I need to adjust is the noise gate and compression. Oh and maybe the ducking feature needs to be global on the board, not just through the 4 main xlr channels
That would be helpful for sure.
Imagine plugging in 4 huge mixers at a concert for a live event? That’s just awesome.
It would be so much fun 🤤
@@tombuck yes it would be. All mixers from stage and where they’re designated at into the Rodecaster Pro? Wow!!
Damn Tom... now I’m really rethinking my “daisy chain” type of setup. 😩👊🏼🙏🏼 I just wish it came in a smaller form factor. 🤦🏽♂️
Great video as always!
Thank you sir! It's no joke when I say the Rodecaster is some of the best money I've ever spent. Love it!
Adding to cart 🤷🏽♂️✊🏼👊🏼
Great video. Thanks for the tips!
Glad it was helpful!
I have never used a cable connecting my iPhone into the RCP. I am connected through Bluetooth and I haven't had *any* issues. I use it for conference calls every day.
That’s awesome! I love that feature.
A lot of great info, this my 3 video I’ve watched. It’s a subscribe for me
Hi Tom, love your videos! In the above at 5:30 you mention how you use mute/solo to achieve a manual mix minus and mention the benefit if his local recording vs (FaceTime !?) Why not just use Riverside/Squadcast/Cleanfeed ?
All of those services are awesome, but they're not free 😬
@@tombuck hahahaha. Cheapskate ! 😂
appreciate you!
Great video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
One day I will get one....so useful for live streams and stuff. You are very good at those rode caster videos 😉 haven’t commented in a while sorry bro!
Haha, no worries! Always nice to see you!
RØDECaster Pro - 3 Mini tips
1. Phone calls
Just like Tom mentioned with trrs adapter you can use it for phone calls on your iPhone (lightning adapter) or Android (USB C adapter)
Why?
A) Have good sound during phone call, sometimes there are issues with bluetooth headset (other party will never complain they can’t hear you properly) if run via RØDECaster
B) Hit the record button - if you need to record the conversation
2. Red button
Did you know when you turn it off you don’t need to confirm yes ?
Just click the red button again and it turns off
3. Don’t let the loudspeakers PLOP
When turning on: RØDECaster first then the speakers
When turning off: Speakers first then RØDECaster
Not sure if the loud PLOP comes with all speakers but definitely with active ones
@TomBuck - what speakers are you using?
Great tips! #2 is news to me!
Hi Tom, loved the video. I’ve recently bought the Rodecaster Pro and don’t know how to turn off voice monitoring (hearing myself through my microphone). Please help. Thank you.
If you don't want to hear yourself, you can use the green Solo button to select the channels that you DO want to hear (and leave yours unchecked).
Loving your videos sir. Always very informative and I like some of the jokes as well...lol.
Did you ever get a chance to or plan to test the zoom podtrak p8 ? Thanks
I'm working to see if I can get a review unit, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
