Thanks for all the Videos. They have been VERY helpful. Something myself and a half dozen of my friends have been looking for? If you had a Video for the options to properly connect instruments. Like it appears to have a Line Level input for connecting Amps/Pre Amps or Instrument for things like Acoustic Guitar? We have been trying different things as there is NOTHING like this online anywhere yet. But I bet there are MANY MANY MANY thousands of Musician streamers like us who have been waiting for a device like this. Now that it's here? Yea no CLEAR instructions on these options. Everything covering routing, MICs, Mix minus etc, etc. VEDRY WELL done Tutorials/Reviews THANK YOU!
You've hit one one of my biggest pain points with the RCP2: they really haven't done anything to update the music-related functionality. It's pretty much just a basic clean signal and that's about it. Boss recently released a similar product called the "Gigcaster" and while I'm not totally crazy about it, the virtual amp modeling is RIDICULOUS. It sounds incredible, you can tweak things however you'd like, and there's absolutely no latency or delay of any kind. I've been waiting for Rode to announce some kind of update with those features, but so far there's nothing. My personal theory is that building in that kind of sound modeling is tricky, and the other option is to license sounds from other companies, but that's probably incredibly complicated too. I'm glad the videos have been helpful!
@@tombuck I don't need "amp modeling" I am using a "Helix Floor" or "Helix Native" for my "Tones/Amp Modeling" and I am pretrty much set on sticking to my own stage gear/amp modelers.. I was just talking about explaining to people things we have had to learn the hard way with no tutorials. SIMPLE things like use LINE to connect something like your OWN Pre Amp or "Modeler" with everything sdet to unity etc... Had a few friends hitting the "Guitar" and running there ap thru there before realising that is basically just a symbol for plugging in a dry acoustic ewtc. EVERY musician is looking for answers to these ?s we had to go about trial and error to get set up. Would have been nice if these things were explained more in all the Videos we watched etc But no one talks about it.... Thanks again Tom
Tom Buck, alone, will probably be accountable for a thousand unit sales of the Rodecaster II Pro. Rode, if you haven't already locked him up for promotional tours, please do so. This is edutainment at it's finest.
The ending!🤣 I enjoyed this video and the videos you and Peter created while he was visiting. I'm waiting for my "pre-order" of the RCP2 to arrive and watching all of your videos in the interim.
Really enjoy your videos Tom! Glad I found this video too. You fly thru the info and you don't waste our time as listeners, which as we know, is is critical. thanks again!
I have a feeling that people want to know if you can remove the fader tops is because someone will eventual 3D print faders in cool colors that you can swap the originals out
They have to put a way to mute only mics on speakers every other interface has a button for that. I want chat to be out on speakers without my voice going on speakers.
I'm very excited for the RCP II. Can't wait to dive in and learn all the ways I can use it for streaming, music production, and even live DJ gigs! Here we go!!!
Hey Tom! Coming over from Peters vid! Nice collab you guys! Just found a few vids of yours for FCPX! Im trying to help speed up my editing. Nice work bud.
I LOVE how Rode not only listens to the customers and adds new firmware updates but LITERALLY goes beyond the stuff we asked for and wanted. Dope video as always Tom!
Hey Tom…love your content! Just found your channel a few weeks ago. Great stuff. I have 2 Rodecaster Pro (originals) at my Ad Agency and we have been using them for the past 2 years…they have been a fantastic too. Far exceeded my Old School expectations. I have the Rodecaster Pro 2 on the way for next week. I actually sold my RME Babyface Pro and a bunch of other outboard gear to switch my workflow over to the Rodecaster (no reason to live in the past…LOL). Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the public fader swapping answer! It usually is common on mixers that you can swap faders, you’ll sometimes see a famous mixer being used with other faders, there’s usually no risk (if it’s too hard to remove it just means you can’t change them). It’s great when you want specific colors for channels (the more colors you have the better you feel😃) or when you don’t like the touch and feel of original faders, or having big or tiny fingers xD.
Just to make sure someone doesn't get this wrong, you're not replacing the actual fader (as you can with some fancy mixers). You're replacing the fader knob. :)
That ending?! HILARIOUS!!! Thanks for sharing SOOO MUCH of your knowledge and your discoveries with the NEW RCP II!!! I'm EXCITED for mine!!! (My wife is even excited about her new one my RCP I - I even get to set it up for her! 🤪)
So for point #2, this is the first Rodecaster video where its shown this feature to actually replace a GOXLR. Is there a way to add more virtual channels yet or is it capped at 3 if you decide to plug in both USB's? My current workflow uses 4 (mic, Discord, music player, computer audio). I'm sure this would be a simple update, but that you for confirming it already does have this feature.
Currently it's capped at 3. I have no idea if that'll change in a future update, but I can definitely tell that Rode is being pretty aggressive when it comes to outperforming the competition, so it wouldn't surprise me.
@@tombuck thanks for the confirmation. Just need to decide now if 3 will be fine for my streaming setup. With enough asking hopefully Rode will update to have more, they're usually good at adding anything they can to make their product better.
So, I use a GoXLR for my Twitch stream and a TASCAM Mixcast 4 for my podcast, but the way you just routed audio could actually replace the GoXLR for me. I'm so tempted to get the RCP2 now. I'll need to sell my other pieces of equipment though...
Being able to use both USB's on the same computer is something I theoretically thought could work - thank you for confirming. That's getting it ever closer to the functionality of the GoXLR with Windows machines. This would be a no brainer for me if you could do separate submixes for the different headphone outputs. My current interface has 4 separate headphone mixes (Antelope Discrete 4 SC) which I use to route audio to different places like a camera, an ATEM mini and two sets of headphones. Being able to discretely choose what audio goes where is pretty necessary for my workflow. So close, Rode!
I'm really interested to see where they'll take the USB functionality since it seems like there are a lot of possibilities and they've been pretty clear about wanting to add as many robust (Rodebust?) features as possible.
Certainly very interesting. I am drewling here on these video's. Want to replace my analog mixer with this RØDEcaster Pro II, also saves some space on my desk. Anyways, i am using BreakawayOne (Live) for the soundprocessing of live shows (haven't done it for a while but still), and that complicates things as i want to monitor the output (after processing) on my headphone. Till now i used a second soundcard in my PC for this purpose, and ASIO for the low latency (does the RØDEcaster Pro II even support ASIO?). Still have my Focusrite here also (which supports ASIO). But i think i can even manage to do this all with only the RØDEcaster without needing the Focusrite. Also i have a Lexicon MX300 multi-effect processor which i was using for a light reverb on the microphone, but i also don't need that anymore i guess. I am rambling a bit, but the main thing i wanted to say is that the use of multiple pathways is ideal and necessary for these kind of constructions if you want to use processing or an additional effect processor and with 2 USB's (soundcards) even on the same PC would be damn nice.
recently bought a RCP2 and had a GoXLR. great device so far. I have been missing some small features from the GoXLR though like the multiple virtual channels to split up audio for live stream instead of using 2 USB ports on a PC. Also the ease of use of the sample buttons with the record, playback and crop functionality was great on the GoXLR, I'm surprised Rode didn't do something similar.
@@tombuck i have seen that software, the only issue is that it doesn’t interface with the RCP2 like the GoXLR meaning i can’t control the software using the RCP2. Meaning when i stream, i cannot filter out the music channel for example from the VOD replay. I hope Rode do something/update the RCP2 to communicate with the Unity Software, THEN it will truly be THE device for streamers.
Does anyone have any idea on the Microphone settings where the Levels are - there is a P48 on / off button and a little icon that looks like the O from the Rode logo also with an on / off button. What does that O do???
That's a great question. I had to ask Rode about that and they told me it's a phase correction option. If you have two mics next to each other and one of them is sounding strange (either a bit too quiet or too thin), they might be out of phase and this will bring them back together. Actually a super cool feature that seems a bit overlooked.
Only use 5c18 or sc19 to connect to the computer? Other U5B C cannot be connected to rode centered 2.0?How can I restore my settings without connecting to my computer?
Those are the USB cables you'd want to use when connecting an iOS device. For regular computer connectivity, you can use the included USB cable, or pretty much any other one (I've gotten away with using lots of cheap cables with the RCP). You can also reset and update from the RCP directly without connecting it to anything.
Tom, if you set your different programs to use "Chat", are you able to hear it? I'm currently using SPDIF wireless headphones connected to my PC, and I suspect this is the reason I can't hear any of the 3 USB interfaces from the Rodecaster. I'm assuming I need wired headphones that connect to the Rodecaster? I did try bluetooth headphones just to confirm it works like that, but despite them connecting fine, I never got any audio out of them, and the actual db interface didn't even move no matter what settings I used. My headphones are Sennheiser's RS185 with an actual dock. The dock then plugs into my PC with SPDIF, but the dock also has RCA. Would I be able to connect the dock into the Rodecaster with RCA cables? Using Voicemeeter in the meantime for my headphones and splitting tracks.
I hope Best Buy sends out my pre-order on Wednesday ( June 15). On a side note the DJI RS3 PRO is going to be announced on Wed ( June 15) for all you camera heads out there as well.
I ordered mine from them also and they still don’t even have a release date on the item. I’ve been burned on preorders more times than I can count from BB Not sending out items like this until weeks after they’ve actually been out. The only reason I even ordered from them is because I had a $500 gift card that needed to be used.
@@RexxReviews lol.... Same here bro. I did a insurance swap for my Rodecaster 1 with BEST BUY and I got 2 gift cards totalling 654 dollars and I used that to get the Rodecaster 2 plus their ripoff Totalcare package and paid the difference so I can have a warrenty plus 60 days to return just in case. I really hope they dont burn us bro.
#2 just might be the reason I buy this. I’m having issues with the og rcp. I bought a uad twin x audio interface. I love the plug ins they make the sm7b mic sound amazing. I was trying to have it work with ecam and the rcp. Without having to buy loopback (which still couldn’t do what I wanted for some reason maybe my fault) wonder if there would be a delay if I tried hooking all this up together? thanks tom!
I have been looking at this to possibly upgrade from my Presonus revelator IO24 interface but the Presonus routing software has the ability to have 3 different audio sources from your computer to be on separate faders in their software. I can have my vo mic on one fader, DAW audio on another fader, zoom on its own fader and music from Spotify on its own fader so its like having 3 audio interfaces in one package although it’s software based. I would love to be able to do the same thing with physical hardware like the rode podcaster 2 but I think it comes up 1 virtual channel short.
Can you PLEASE do a full walkthrough of the RODECaster Pro II for a newbie and how to best use it for a Podcast, Lives, and RUclips videos I love you're channel and have watched at least half of everything you have made!
By any chance do you have two iPads and try to hook both of them up? In theory, it seems like it should work. I have the OG RCP and upgraded to the RCPII with hopes of being able to use both. I do music noodling and I'm hopeful I chose wisely. Thanks!
Hi Tom, Is there a way to directly connect your iPhone to the RCP2 to be able to record your livestream call, or are you just relegated to using bluetooth connection to make that happen. I ask this because using Bluetooth connection, at times there can be vocal delays where it can miss the first 1 or 2 seconds of the person speaking on the phone each time they speak from time to time. I was thinking using a USB C to Lighting cable I think would prevent that and get a cleaner and better recording. Let me know what you can please if there is some kind of workaround on this. Thank you.
Ahh, yes! This is there the SC19 USB cable comes in handy (it's a lightning to USB C cable that's MFI certified...basically that just means it'll work with something like the RCP). It's really important to use that cable, or another "MFI" cable, otherwise things likely won't work well.
@@tombuck Thank you and I did use an MFI certified USB-C to lightning cable, but when I connected it all I did was charge it it would not connected and when I spoke to the TechSupport guys at RODE, they told me only Bluetooth will work with mobile phones. Especially iPhones. I was just trying to figure out if you found a workaround with that? I even spoke to them about the SC19 cable and they said it wouldn’t even work to be able to live stream or record mobile phone calls. Again if you find a workaround on this one please let me know, thank you.
TY SO MUCH that double usb into one computer to change where my discord audio is going to is HUGE I just bought this due to goxlr going kaput so you are the real gigachad!
I've ordered one, looking forward to getting one. I think it looks great but I will never be this excited for any gear as you. Your channel used to be called the Enthusiasm Channel back in the day and it really fits you. Now I think you should just change your name to Mr. RODEcaster I'm fairly sure Rode wouldn't mind! Just think of the merch ideas with that name...LOL
Very nice tips. Do you know if we can output the master to an iPhone… I tried to Bluetooth route but the sound quality was below average. I was wondering if we could do it via USB Cable
Great video - thanks! How does the bluetooth feature actually work? Is it possible to use it "both ways" the same time - e.g. play music from an ipad AND send signal to an bluetooth speaker? What do you think about using the RCP II for an event setting - sending the audio signal via bluetooth e.g. to a LG Maui 5 speaker?
It should work both ways otherwise it wouldn't be very beneficial. If you take a look @7:47 you can see his phone is already paired to the RCP prior to connecting the speaker. Paired input devices would be assigned to a channel for volume control via a fader (physical or virtual). Output volume for a BT speaker appears to be controlled by the master knob.
Currently the beta firmware only allows me to connect one at a time. Not sure if that'll change in the future, but it definitely makes sense to use a phone and speaker simultaneously.
@@tombuck Wow, I stand corrected. I truly hope Rode enables simultaneous usage in a firmware update very soon. Granted, just having the addition of BT output to a speaker is definitely a bonus! I guess that answers my question whether you can output to "multiple" BT speakers simultaneously, but that's certainly not as important/desirable as having a BT input & output paired at the same time.🙂
@@tombuck whadda think about using bluetooth earbuds (Apple for example) and an IEM? I've been trying and trying to solve for wireless IEMs and wonder if this will work that way? (latency?)
Wow - this is the product that just keeps on giving! Having a wireless monitor will be brilliant for what we do with our sports broadcasts. At the moment our camera operator sometimes isn't close enough to the commentators to hear what they are saying and therefore react to what they are saying with the camera (for instance film a player specifically that they are talking about) but with this function they can wear bluetooth headphones and monitor them all the time. Big question is do you know what radius it has? If it's around 10 metres that would be brilliant, 20m would be unbelievable and anything more than that would be out of this world. Have you tested the distance yet? Thanks as always.
Just to add that we use long cables to monitor at some stadia but often because of crowds cables cannot be run safely, hence the wireless option would be brilliant.
I've only used it in the same room, so about 3-4 meters. I'll be interested to test the distance with the official firmware later this week 👍 And I feel you about running cables- it's extremely tough and has a lot of opportunity for things to go wrong.
@@tombuck Just checked with google and it seems like 10 metres is achievable which should just about do the trick but it will be interesting to try it out for real when it arrives. Thanks again for your quick response
This has me wondering if I can pair my Bose 700N headphones to this devise. What a wonderful idea. I hope it works because I hate chords! That would be icing on the cake!
Hi, Thanks for your insightful videos! The combo jacks are only supporting mono line in, right? What workaround is the RCP2 capable of for users that were relying on the TRRS jack on the first model for some stereo analog audio equipment, without having to use up 2 combo jacks? Thanks!
Can the Rodecaster accept multiple inputs over a single USB connection and then be assigned to individual faders? For example, from a computer over usb - game audio, discord, music, etc. all separated into their own tracks.
Basically it's just as I showed here where you can get 3 inputs/outputs for the time being. I'm very curious if that'll change with future updates though, since more routing is a highly requested feature.
@@tombuck If Rode added 3 or 4 virtual audio channels per USB port, every streamer would be lining up to get one. I'd like to know if this is a possibility with a firmware update or not possible due to hardware limitations.
Glad you’re digging it tom .. great video .. I was a little disappointed when I bought the second version of the Rode wireless Go’s . Loved the 1st because they were plug and play . It seems like they’ve done that again . Just made this second version too complicated . All I want is something without the cloudlifter - which they done here . Something that doesn’t clip and something that records up to 4 people . That’s it . Love the sound effect bar too . Dunno about this second version . All the best . ✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
The cool thing with this is that if you keep all of the advanced settings turned off, it can be super simple. That being said, if you're never going to use any of those features, then it's probably not worth the price. Maybe check out the Zoom P4? It's small, affordable, has 4 XLR inputs, and 76dB of gain. The gain isn't as clean as the RCP2, but it's not terrible either.
Thank you for the reply tom ! It’s appreciated !! I still love the 1st Rodecaster . We’ve gone to war many a time and come back victorious . I just bought the Zoom F3 , paired it with an Octava mk-012. I couldn’t be happier With the results . I did buy the sennheiser mkh-416 but it picks up too much outside noise (so returned it) .. Anyway , keep killing it mate ! Legend !!
I ordered my RCP2 and can’t wait to get it! Can the RCP2 edit the recording beyond shortening and fading the clip at the beginning and end? For example; can you cut out pieces anywhere in the clip, like if you cut out um’s, miss-speaks, dead air, etc in your recording? I’m basically wondering if I can record and edit on-device without additional software like GarageBand, Ableton, etc?
Wow Tom, what's the name of the shock mount u are using with the Procaster? I got mine on the PSM1 and a WS2 wind shield, but ur shock mount ( I can see "Rode" written on the side but I never saw this model, at least here in Italy atm, so I cannot even search for it) and the marvelous pop filter... I want them all, please let me know the details! ^_^
@@tombuck Thanks for answering Tom! Pity Rode do not makes it anymore but, maybe if we ask them politely... 😅😂 What about the pop filter? Out of making too?
RODECaster Pro 3 - will be an ideal solution when the manufacturer can make normal software, will not use asio4all, and will also be able to do normal software channel routing, such as Go XLR. The vocal processor inside is just as important as the device's versatility. By themselves, podcasts do not have much popularity, as well as the income from them, because the narrow focus kills the device, and the versatility makes it popular. I will not praise the device as others do in the comments, but it already fulfills most of the requests of a person working with sound, but this is not the ultimate dream. Thanks for the review.
I haven't used those specific headphones, so you might want to double check with Rode themselves, but since the RCP2 lets you select either high or low sensitivity headphones, it should work with just about anything.
Howdy, @7:22 you have the bit about connecting to output bluetooth devices like your mini bluetooth speaker. But when I try the same thing nothing shows up, wondering if there is something I am doing wrong. Can't seem to get mine to see either bluetooth headphones or speakers (I have tried a few)
That's a good question! The Rode NT-USB Mini is awesome if you're able to position it close to your mouth. Beyond that, in the sub $100 range there are some really decent mics from Samson and Fifine. They won't totally blow you away or anything, but they're great for the price and perfect for general use.
I'm excited to play around with the possibilities of the RCP. I do hope that they will modify it so you don't have to stop recording just to edit the fader assignments, We do this with A&H boards all the time. Having this on the RCP will be awesome.
Love your videos they are very informative and helpful. I have 2 PCs in my streaming setup. One for games and the other to handle the broadcast. On my broadcast machine, I am finding that only the USB 1 chat virtual audio source is giving me a full output mix. When I try to choose USB 1 Main for the broadcast output I get nothing. My original plan was to has the USB 1 chat linked into my Discord or other com application and then have the USB1 Main be the multi mix out to the stream. DO you know if there is any way to switch the multi mix audio output or this normal? I know you have been bombarded with routing questions, thanks for any help in advance.
Hmm, that's strange. I've been getting almost he oppose, where the Main has EVERYTHING all the time and Chat has USB Mix Minus. Almost sounds like a bug to me, so it could be worth trying a reset to see if it clears things up.
Hi Tom great show..... I watch your show all the time and remember how much you love the atem mini series. has anything or can you talk about the rode caster pro 2 and atem mini working together pleaseeeeeeee. I am going to to a vlog with multiple people on camera and want to use the rode caster pro 2 as my audio source for the shot and the atem for my video source. it would be great if you do an update on the two working together. I guess one thing is with two usb c´can the atem use one of them?
Hey Jason! The ATEM is great, but in my opinion, it's audio handling is the biggest weak point. I normally just connect the ATEM and RCP to the computer separately for best results. But the new RCP does have a line level output, which means you can run the monitor outputs into an ATEM or camera with better results than before if needed.
Imagine changing the physical fader to an anodized aluminum blue as well! Or a set of the 4 colors you have for the other cables. Less flexible, more fail proof?
Also, I'm still trying to figure out what replaced the master headphone output that was on the front of the first Rødecaster. Is it just defaulted to the first headphone jack now or what?
Basically yes, it's just #1 on the back. I'm not 100% sure why they removed the front one, but I do know it caused a lot of confusion since many people didn't understand it was the same control as the rear #1 as well. Maybe it was just to keep things simple? I used the front jack every day, but honestly have been totally fine without it so far.
One questions, my preset(s) do not seem to save and disappeared between sessions with the RCP2. Am I missing something with use of the + button? Thank you for your help!
Tom can you please make a video on how to use this on a dual PC streaming setup. I need it to be able to have an input that's just my microphone and the effects / samples into PC 1 and I need all of that AND the desktop audio of PC 1 to be put into PC 2 for OBS Studio. I would really appreciate it 🙏
Hey Tom!!! Love your content and I just recently bought the RCP2 and I want to use it to livestream directly into my iPhone for IG live and facebook live. Is this a possibility? My band wants to start doing live podcast type things on social sites. I would love to see a short video on how to do this. Thanks for all the info and everything you do!
Facebook is no problem since you can easily select the RCP as an audio source. IG is a little different since it doesn't currently like desktop streaming. However, I have been able to use it with IG on my iPad, since the iPad has a USB C port.
The puns are so bad, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Very informative, and answered a question that I had involving plugging both USBs into the same device. With all the videos you've done on this device, I finally bit the bullet and decided to pick this up to replace my GoXLR that's started to have the mic amp have its noise floor increase over time. One question I have, is are you able to layer multiple effects? One thing I like to do with my current setup is to do both pitch down and robot effects for a character I do, so I was wondering it that is still something I could do here or if effects can only do just one at a time
Great question. I just got my RCP2 in the mail yesterday and haven't figured out if it's possible to combine the effects yet. This would be a good topic to cover in a future video.
Brilliiant video, answered some of my questions. Considering a purchase, and this is clearly a well thought out device. But does the extra USB-port also work as a host? Connecting the Rode Wireless Go II to the secondary USB-port instead of taking up precious audio inputs would be very convenient.
HEY TOM!! Guess what I got in the mail today?!?! If you guess anything it the Rodecaster Pro II… we’ll just don’t! I can’t wait to test this bad boy out!! Can you make a video for beginner Podcasters/RUclipsrs?
CONGRATS! I hope you have a ton of fun with it! A lot of my workflow/starter videos are still relevant. For the RCPII I'm waiting until the official firmware has been out for a bit longer before making a full review and shorter tutorials 👍
I had used my rodecaster I for years, now I've just unpack my rodecaster pro 2 ... but can't see anywhere the mix minus on the usb 1... seems like only usb channel 2 make mix minus is this possible somehow? other strange thing if I connect directly by usb c to the pc won't see the first interface but only the second one... Only thing I've done is install the update when unpacked...
First tests of the RodeCaster Pro 2... I'm a radio DJ working in voice track for radio stations 50% of time with RCS Zetta 2 GO... I'm not sure I'm going to make it a working tool. First things: the French translation is worthy of a Wish product... But let's move on to translation. I tested the micro process part impossible to obtain a dense radio sound as can be obtained with a Symetrix 528e, an M1 or a dbx286 ... More embarrassing or more serious... To work in radio production (voice track for my case and under WIndows, my Macintoshians may have qq something more satisfying). If we use the ASIO drivers, we have 0 gain control between the console output and the interface, normal everything is integrated... yes except that peaks at -12dB may be the norm in the recording studio, in Broadcast where we have more levels with peaks close to 0 dBFS (to stick to the music production that is in these standards)... In Sound Forge too weak to be delivered without post prod, in Reaper (a multitrack) the correction of gain after recording gave me systematically saturation, and that I could not understand why ... Related to how the integrated interface handles levels? One more thing in ASIO the only sampling frequency is the 48kHz, the 44.1 which remains a standard, we forget, the 96kHz which is the new PRO standard we forget also... Finally the ASIO driver seemed to me hyper unstable ceasing to accept to record without reason at times ... I have been working for years in ASIO with Focusrite which is renowned for its drivers not always well cared for and I do not know this instability. This closes the trial for local registration... let's switch to Zetta to do remote voice... To interface with Zetta it is necessary on the other hand to stick with the Windows standard (Zetta uses the default registration interface of the PC) and manage with the "recording level" in the control panel, again up to -12dBFS it works between -12 and 0 it saturates very quickly. The micro stage having just a compressor and not limit to put in the stride, it is either too weak or saturated in my tests. I was planning to use the "chat" output but it is in a quality type phone (restricted bandwidth) not bad for phone on Skype (and again) but not exploitable in Broadcast (I planned to use it as an N-1 for Zetta)... So remains the Secondary output (2nd USB interface to put in N-1) but again impossible to manage the level satisfactorily. I also transferred the beds of a radio to one of the customizable pads. These beds were very qualitative MP3s, it works but... It looks like it starts playing by emptying a remnant of buffer, so systematically reading a remnant of sound before playing the new jingle, and the jingle at the top left can not be reread after reading regardless of the config, and it is well in replay like the others... I finish writing this post, I will go and store it in its box, before making further tests or repacking it for return. My first impression is not excellent... I am used to working with a focusrite interface and a digital process from Symetrix. I notice that the input of the Focusrite has a super tolerance to saturation, I work permanently at the limit of 0dBFS without saturating.
I don't remember the make or where Tom got it from, but it's a popfilter ment for the RE20 (fits perfect on the Procaster). Take a look at the last live stream about the RCP II, and you get the 100% correct answer! :-)
Tom: I'm an adjunct professor and deliver my drone certification (Part 107) class online using Ecamm and Zoom. So it's only me. I use the Samson G-Track Pro USB mic and it has been pretty good (anything is better than the built-in mic of my iMac 2017!). Should I still consider a RODECaster Pro II? I'm sure I'll be upgrading my microphone one day to something better, but I just don't think I'll be using ¼ of the features of the RProII. Your opinion?
As much as I love the RCP2, it sounds like it might be overkill in your situation. If the Samson is getting the job done, then there's no reason to upgrade! If it's leaving something to be desired, then maybe there's another USB mic that would help? (I've really been liking the Rode NT-USB+ and the Sennheiser Profile.) If you get to the point where you want to use XLR mics and/or add multiple other audio sources, then the RCP would be a great help.
Question- With the VOice FX, the cool deep voice or high pitch, when you record a podcast using multitrack, the track themselves that you are using that effect on, lets say Mic 1, those effects DO NOT come over the multitrack exported track. It's baked into the Stereo Mix, but it's not usable on a multitrack recording, do you a fix for this? I find it odd they add this feature but you can't really use it unless you are editing a podcast as one track stereo mix file. Thoughts?
@@elliothuntington8980 Yes, Rode said that it only works on the Stereo file, not on multitrack recording. So if you use the effects for voices, you only can hear them on the final stereo file mix, you will not hear them at all on the individual tracks. I read somewhere that they are going to try to get it to work on multitrack exports as well in a future update.
Tom … great job on your videos. I own and use several RCP 1 units for in-studio guest interviews with non-broadcast folks. I’m concerned that these folks will distracted by the latency that seems to be a bug in RCP 2. I’m tempted to keep buying the RCP 1 because of this. Thoughts?
I still have no clue how the Rodecaster works.
I think you explained it very eloquently.
Men Peter, du är överallt ju. Blev verkligen överraskad att se dig sittandes på Toms magic blue room. Peter the Ghost 👻. Kul att se dig överallt ✌️
@@tombuck that was a very good surprise at the end 😀. Peter from Sweden 🇸🇪
Maybe not but he is excited about it...LOL
Great cameo, Peter! Tom, totally unexpected ending. Well done, mate!
Soooooo excited for mines!! I still can’t believe it! Thank you so much for stopping by yesterday!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Congrats again! I didn't see all 100 streams, but I stopped in as often as I could (even if I was just a lurker 😁)
OMG!!! Not only was this video chock full of goodness but the Peter pop-up was perfection!
Yes, I approve this message 🏅
Peter did a perfect sum up of the video! 👏😂
I agree!
The ending!🤣 I enjoyed this video and the videos you and Peter created while he was visiting. I'm waiting for my "pre-order" of the RCP2 to arrive and watching all of your videos in the interim.

You should be able to do it, but I haven't tried record video on a phone with the RCP as an audio source.

Appreciate all the pre-release info. Just got mine yesterday and was able to dive right in after watching your videos!
Awesome! I hope you have a ton of fun with it!
I have a feeling that people want to know if you can remove the fader tops is because someone will eventual 3D print faders in cool colors that you can swap the originals out
Yes I’m the one that asked Tom about that 🤣 nobody cares about it but I do ahah.
They have to put a way to mute only mics on speakers every other interface has a button for that. I want chat to be out on speakers without my voice going on speakers.
Getting ready to launch my own audio podcast (Count It Off!) and your help has been golden.
I'm very excited for the RCP II. Can't wait to dive in and learn all the ways I can use it for streaming, music production, and even live DJ gigs! Here we go!!!
Definitely set aside a day to just sit and play around with it! There's a lot to learn!
❤️the surprise ending. And my RCP II arrives today!
Congrats! I hope you have a ton of fun with it!
Great tips Tom!! The audio routing is huge!! Rode should be promoting this more. Thanks great info.
I'm super excited to see where they take it with future updates!
My RCP II arrived today🎉 thanks again for all your invaluable information.
Nice! I hope you have an awesome time with it!
Hey Tom! Coming over from Peters vid! Nice collab you guys! Just found a few vids of yours for FCPX! Im trying to help speed up my editing. Nice work bud.
Awesome, thanks Raul! I'm honored by the kind words 🙏
Thanks Tom (great name, by the way)! I'm sure you'll really love all the improvements of the RCP2. It's absolutely a fantastic tool!
I didn't think about it at first, but it does open up some options in cool ways! Kind of like how guitar knobs can easily be swapped out.
@@tombuck exactly!
Just to make sure someone doesn't get this wrong, you're not replacing the actual fader (as you can with some fancy mixers). You're replacing the fader knob. :)
@@gutterg0d right. Faders themselves would be a bit tricky to replace in a RCP
Learning the ropes with my newly acquired RPC2, and it is an amazing piece of gear.
It can really do so much!
I'm convinced. I'm putting my RCP for sale as soon as this can make it to my doorstep.
That ending?! HILARIOUS!!!
Thanks for sharing SOOO MUCH of your knowledge and your discoveries with the NEW RCP II!!! I'm EXCITED for mine!!! (My wife is even excited about her new one my RCP I - I even get to set it up for her! 🤪)
Oh nice! I hope she has fun with it!
The outro was brilliant, "Swash" turn a knob LOL
#1 feature missing is just a Parametric Equalizer where we can go in and notch out bad frequencies.
I was wondering the same. Im also wondering if we could plug in 2 Rcps the new and old one to achieve some in/out variations.
It's definitely nice when you can condense multiple pieces of gear into one.
Aaand... The temptation was too great. Selling my GoXLR and ordered a RØDECaster Pro II. I'm beyond excited for it!
Cool items. Still want an in depth multitrack video, then I'm sold if it solves version one issues! 😁
Can't wait to get mine for the studio.
Did you connect the shotgun mic to the rodecaster?
Yup!
recently bought a RCP2 and had a GoXLR. great device so far.
Don't quote me on this, but I THINK Rode's Unify software is what's intended to solve this problem.
Hey Tom. Is it possible to connect the original road caster pro to wireless headphones?
Does anyone have any idea on the Microphone settings where the Levels are - there is a P48 on / off button and a little icon that looks like the O from the Rode logo also with an on / off button. What does that O do???
That's a great question. I had to ask Rode about that and they told me it's a phase correction option. If you have two mics next to each other and one of them is sounding strange (either a bit too quiet or too thin), they might be out of phase and this will bring them back together. Actually a super cool feature that seems a bit overlooked.
@@tombuck Ok, thanks! I was totally wondering WTH it was on mine :)
@@tombuck The RPC I got is the 0.05 test version. It may not be used until the factory settings are restored. How can I solve it?
Great video. Love the fact that they added features that a lot of streamers can benefit from and hoping it just keeps improving from here.
I'm sure they have all kinds of fun stuff in store for future updates!
I bought a RodeCasterPro II recently. It's paid for itself just from being able to talk like a chipmunk. Everything else is gravy! Love it!
They really should market that as the main feature. What more could anyone want?!
Hi, Peter sent me here to subscribe, so here I am. Good to be here on this very elegant channel. A tip from Lindgren never fails, I see. 👍
Quick question, what shock mount where you using? I use that same mic and am using the Rode shock mount. That one you have looks different…
Tom's using the shock mount from the Røde NT1! ;)
I commandeered the one from my NT-1 since it's the only one I have that fits the Procaster.
@@tombuck oh wow! Didn’t know it fits both microphones. Thanks!

Are you able to route different mic/line inputs to different USB channels? Like mic 1-2 goes to usb primary but 3-4 goes to secondary?
Currently no, but I'd love to see that in a future update.
Tom do you know if the broadcast meters can be shown in the companion app on the computer so I could place them on a secondary screen?
I'm not sure how to do that yet, or if it's possible, but I'd love to see it!
Tom is so calm
Thank you! I don't think I've ever been called calm before 😁
#2 just might be the reason I buy this. I’m having issues with the og rcp. I bought a uad twin x audio interface. I love the plug ins they make the sm7b mic sound amazing. I was trying to have it work with ecam and the rcp. Without having to buy loopback (which still couldn’t do what I wanted for some reason maybe my fault) wonder if there would be a delay if I tried hooking all this up together? thanks tom!
I think this functionality will get expanded upon in the future (I don't know for sure, it's just a guess), and I would love to see that.
I've been loving your content lately. Thank you & Keep up the good work!
Thanks John! I'm really happy to hear that!

By any chance do you have two iPads and try to hook both of them up? In theory, it seems like it should work. I have the OG RCP and upgraded to the RCPII with hopes of being able to use both. I do music noodling and I'm hopeful I chose wisely. Thanks!
You cna connect two iPads via USB, or one via USB and one via Bluetooth 👍

Have you seen the Loupedeck Live S yet and if so would you hold off to buy that or get a stream deck?
I haven't used the Loupedeck Live, so I can't say. I do think the Elgato software is simpler though.
Haha, glad it helped! They've updated the firmware a bit more since this and added even more routing options and stuff.
On th the Mac side when connecting the Rodecaster, can you use regular USB-A port on Mac or it must be usb-c to usb-c only?
Excellent Tutorial Video. Thank You Tom.
Glad it was helpful!
I didn't even realize how excited I was about this until I got mine! I knew I was an RCP fan, but not to this extent haha
I guess that answers my question whether you can output to "multiple" BT speakers simultaneously, but that's certainly not as important/desirable as having a BT input & output paired at the same time.🙂
@@tombuck Do you think that it can be changes via a firmware update? Or is it an hardware issue?
@@tombuck whadda think about using bluetooth earbuds (Apple for example) and an IEM? I've been trying and trying to solve for wireless IEMs and wonder if this will work that way? (latency?)
So theoretically I could remove the fader knobs.3D print some custom knobs and replace them. Sweet
I'll be interested to test the distance with the official firmware later this week 👍
And I feel you about running cables- it's extremely tough and has a lot of opportunity for things to go wrong.
Those are some amazing features one day soon I will be a to appreciate them in person.
I'm excited for you! I'm sure you'll do some awesome stuff with it.
Hi,
Thanks for your insightful videos!
The combo jacks are only supporting mono line in, right?
What workaround is the RCP2 capable of for users that were relying on the TRRS jack on the first model for some stereo analog audio equipment, without having to use up 2 combo jacks?
Thanks!
As far as I know they can support stereo input if you're using a stereo cable. I could be wrong though...
So many awsome puns. You are a pun master!
Hi. Great info. Man those puns just flow.
Legend !!
Just curious, does Rode Central app download with the firmware over ethernet, or is that an additional download?
The Central app works over USB to the RCP, but you can also download firmware directly to the RCP using either wifi or ethernet. Lots of options!
Very nice with some Swedish in the end
It only serves to Sweden the deal.
As of now, you can cut sections out, but who knows what they might add in the future 🤷🏻♂️
I actually commandeered the one from my NT-1. It's an old design and I don't think Rode makes it anymore (I wish they did).
@@tombuck Thanks for answering Tom!
Pity Rode do not makes it anymore but, maybe if we ask them politely... 😅😂
What about the pop filter? Out of making too?
RODECaster Pro 3 - will be an ideal solution when the manufacturer can make normal software, will not use asio4all, and will also be able to do normal software channel routing, such as Go XLR.
The vocal processor inside is just as important as the device's versatility. By themselves, podcasts do not have much popularity, as well as the income from them, because the narrow focus kills the device, and the versatility makes it popular.
I will not praise the device as others do in the comments, but it already fulfills most of the requests of a person working with sound, but this is not the ultimate dream.
Thanks for the review.
Tom you gotta try the goxlr mic!!!! It’s incredible!!!
I've heard great things!
Amazing Tips Tom!
Im thinking of getting the senhesiher hd 800s to go with my rode2, is the rode 2 enough on its own for it?
I haven't used those specific headphones, so you might want to double check with Rode themselves, but since the RCP2 lets you select either high or low sensitivity headphones, it should work with just about anything.
Howdy, @7:22 you have the bit about connecting to output bluetooth devices like your mini bluetooth speaker. But when I try the same thing nothing shows up, wondering if there is something I am doing wrong. Can't seem to get mine to see either bluetooth headphones or speakers (I have tried a few)
Looks like it isn't available in the current firmware 1.0 are you still able to connect to your output devices since the update?
Off topic Tom. What's your go to suggestion for USB mic at $100 for meetings / podcasts (not xlr)?
That's a good question! The Rode NT-USB Mini is awesome if you're able to position it close to your mouth. Beyond that, in the sub $100 range there are some really decent mics from Samson and Fifine. They won't totally blow you away or anything, but they're great for the price and perfect for general use.
I'm excited to play around with the possibilities of the RCP. I do hope that they will modify it so you don't have to stop recording just to edit the fader assignments, We do this with A&H boards all the time. Having this on the RCP will be awesome.
I think currently it's probably to protect users from themselves, but being able to reassign things while recording would definitely be helpful.
I’m still learning to use my RodeCaster Pro (v1)….I’m going to need a bigger studio. 😳👍👍
Space is definitely becoming a premium here.
@@tombuck yes…looks like you’ll need Peter L. to extend your studio as well. 😳🤣🤣
Hi Tom! Do you think the RodeCaster Pro II can be managed from a Streamdeck?
There's really no direct compatibility with the Streamdeck beyond maybe being able to select USB inputs/outputs?
Imagine changing the physical fader to an anodized aluminum blue as well! Or a set of the 4 colors you have for the other cables. Less flexible, more fail proof?
Also, I'm still trying to figure out what replaced the master headphone output that was on the front of the first Rødecaster. Is it just defaulted to the first headphone jack now or what?
Yes, just use headphone output #1 on back on RCP 2. I believe the one on front of RCP 1 was more about convenience than anything.
This will be the final straw for me to go get a longer cable for my headphones. The current one is _almost_ long enough when using the front jack.
One questions, my preset(s) do not seem to save and disappeared between sessions with the RCP2. Am I missing something with use of the + button? Thank you for your help!
😮 that ending
Tom can you please make a video on how to use this on a dual PC streaming setup.
I need it to be able to have an input that's just my microphone and the effects / samples into PC 1 and I need all of that AND the desktop audio of PC 1 to be put into PC 2 for OBS Studio.
I would really appreciate it 🙏
Already got you covered: ruclips.net/video/w6tfE9ODadY/видео.html
Currently the RCP2 doesn't support USB mics, but it wouldn't surprise me to see that added in a future update (at least with Rode's own mics).
Thanks for the video!! I can’t wait to get mine. I am hoping Best Buy doesn’t take for ever sending this thing out.
If you ordered early, it shouldn't be too long 👍
It’s currently a bit different: USB Main has no mix minus, USB Chat always has mix minus, and USB2 has the option to select it on or off.
Cool video Tom - quick question - what brand and make is the popfilter you use with the Procaster?
I don't remember the make or where Tom got it from, but it's a popfilter ment for the RE20 (fits perfect on the Procaster). Take a look at the last live stream about the RCP II, and you get the 100% correct answer! :-)
Yep, it's for the RE20. It's from a place called BSW and it's the "REPOP 320".
(I've really been liking the Rode NT-USB+ and the Sennheiser Profile.)
If you get to the point where you want to use XLR mics and/or add multiple other audio sources, then the RCP would be a great help.
@@tombuck Understood. That’s my feeling as well. 😁👍🏼✨
Thoughts?
Did you ever figure out a solution for this? I'm wondering if it has something to do with the pre fader or post fader configuration settings.
Thoughts?
Hey Peter! I haven't personally had any latency issues with my RCP2, but of course that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
