I got my P8 for Podcasting and for streaming on StationHead and it's amazing, I really enjoy this compact machine. I have also the P4 and it is a pretty good device too, but if you have the P4 you may think twice to upgrade because it has almost the same capabilities that the P8 the main differences are the editor which is simple to use but hard to get a polished edit (you don't want the P8 to do that), and you have a little bit of compression, more detailed info and of course 36 PADS, that is what it caught my attention. To Summarize I recommend both devices. If you really want the P8, but you feel tempted to buy the P4 instead, save your money and invest in the P8. I bought the P4 first because I didn't know there was a P8 version and when I realized it I couldn't return the P4 (It was outside the return window) and I just bought the P8. I will be using the P4 for traveling and record things outside.
I like all Zoom products, including this, the P8. I love Zoom software. Zoom recording software are fantastic; no-loss recorder, crisp and clear. A reliable brand in the media market, even in the audio music recording market.
I've been using the Rodecaster Pro for about six months now and it's very intuitive for me at this point. I notice that Zoom is benefiting from the features and user feedback that the Rodecaster Pro has had. Zoom has four pages of sound bites possible where the Rodecaster Pro has two at this point but in my experience I've used them very little. A professional live broadcast could benefit from more to have genuine newsie sound bites ready to play during a live program. Since I edit my podcasts in Audacity having editing features on the unit is a non-starter for me and I think most would agree that these mix desks will always be used with a computer nearby or in direct use at the time. The MSRP is good, $100 less than the Rodecaster Pro at the moment, I expect the Zoom P8 will quickly drop to keep pace with the Rodecaster Pro if Rode decides to have a price adjustment. Good review.

I use a rodecaster pro for recording all my VO work. It has a built in Bluetooth system for taking calls for phone patch direction. Been working great! I have 2 of them so I have a backup. I’m seriously thinking I may get one of these just for podcasts. It has a few more editing features.
I also have the Rodecaster Pro. What's nice about the Rodecaster is that Bluetooth wireless calling is built into the unit, simply pair your phone and press the Bluetooth button on the console and BAMM, you have wireless calling. But on the Zoom P8, you must buy the optional $49 Bluetooth plug-in adapter which is a bummer. That means the Zoom P8 at list price of $499 plus extra $49 for the Bluetooth adapter makes it nearly the same price as the Rodecaster...plus you have to worry about plugging in and potentially losing an external dongle attachment. Why can't Zoom simply make Bluetooth functionality built into the unit versus charging the public an extra $49.00, seriously??
Omg! I’m a drummer. MPCone user. Me and my band love to make instrumentals on the fly. And this thing with the pads. Looks amazing. The only downfall is no line inputs for guitar or bass. Besides that little thing. It seems to be a dream come true :,)

Excellent video! It is packed with good information. I'm missing a step on the phone calls. My Zoom P8 is connect to my laptop via USB. Input #6 is switched to USB. My Iphone 13 is paired and active with the BTA-2. Placed one call using Facetime, all is well. Then I added a second call. All is well. But I can't seem to speak to both at the same time. Thanks. I’m now torn. I have a new Tascam Model 12 with a RodeCaster Pro on the way for comparison. Which do you like best between those and this P8 for podcasting and some mixing in with live-streaming video?
Both are fine choices. The Zoom PodTrak P8 is not in stock yet. If you need 6 XLR inputs in a portable interface, then the Podtrack 8 may be the way to go for you. But if you plan to use the Tascam Model 12 along with your RODECaster Pro then stay with that combination and start podcasting! >Mark
Both are excellent choices. The RODECaster is in stock now and the PodTrack 8 will not be available until mid-Novembr 2020. The Rode is also a more robustly built and offers higher quality microphone preamps. But the Podtrack 8 has six XLR mic inputs to the Rode's four. >Mark
I love the built in effects although I feel they lack compared to the built in o effects on the rodecaster. This can export individual tracks so I can run them through my preset mastering plugins I use now on my current setup correct?
Per Zoom: "Multitrack recording of up to six people at once The sound qualities and levels of the 6 mic inputs can be adjusted for the voices of the participants. So, can you move all tracks to a computer and edit individually each track? I thought that when you record in the computer using USB connection is just an stereo track what you get in the pc. Thanx for the video.
For multitrack recording, the PodTrak P8 offers an SD slot able to handle 512 GB of audio. You can record each XLR input, remote input, and soundboard to their own individual files. The PodTrak P8 also makes a master stereo recording of your mix for quick and easy exporting in mission-critical scenarios. In addition to a stereo file ready to be used for podcasting, separate files for the audio of each channel can also be recorded and utilized for editing after recording. The P8 has every necessary editing function to complete episodes for distribution. These include deleting unnecessary parts of recorded data, optimizing levels automatically, and combining opening and ending files. Intuitive operation using the large 4.3-inch color touchscreen allows anyone to easily complete podcasts without using a computer. When the channel 6 INPUT SELECT switch is set to USB, it will record in stereo. >Mark

The P-8 has been purpose-built for recording, editing, and producing polished multi-person podcasts anywhere you go without the need for a computer. If you plan to have live music as a regular part of your podcast or if you will need more inputs, then go with the L-12. >Mark
You think I could use it to record music in a pinch? I know you'd normally better buy an L8 or L12, but I mainly need the podcast and editing functionality...
On the Zoom P8, the audio cut and trim post editing feature via the LCD screen looks very useful. Maybe the Rode Rodecaster might have that same functionality in the next firmware upgrade? Plus the "marker" button on the Zoom P8 is also useful to mark parts of the recording to review later. Hmm, wouldn't that require a physical dedicated button on the Rodecaster to do the same? Or could a future Rodecaster firmware update provide that same type of marker functionality? The Zoom P8 does look super cool, but personally I'm more interested in bringing on remote guests via the smartphone channel or USB channel (or Bluetooth channel) versus having a whole room full of people podcasting live in person and spreading COVID cooties around. With that in mind, would the Zoom P8 be able to handle say 3 or 4 remote guests at the same time? It appears it can only handle up to 2 remote guests (via smartphone and USB channels), which would be the same as what the Rode Rodecaster can do, correct? If the Zoom P8 can handle more remote guest connections compared to the Rode Rodecaster, I would be more interested. Great video by the way, AB! This video is more detailed than the video published by Sweetwater audio. EDIT: Never mind about the marker function on the Rodecaster, it's on the LCD screen, not a physical button...duh! :-)
Thanks so much for the kind words. Yup, it's just 2 remote calls as of this video. I was thinking that if you did some clever bundling, like having a 3-way call from your phone (TRRS or Bluetooth), then a group call through USB via Zoom, Skype, etc..., then you may be able to get several remote guests on at once, though you wouldn't have independent audio for each guest.
@@ab1453 Thanks AB for the confirmation! Your videos are excellent. But for your own safety, please stop doing impromptu podcasting while riding on the New York subway, LOL! Joke! :-)
@@ab1453 I've been using Zencastr for call ins with multiple people. It's free and records discrete tracks. Of course you'd have to assemble the files in post but a dog trainer's clicker makes it easy to find the spike. And there seems to be less compression as compared to Skype, Facetime, Zoom etc.
The Zoom PodTrak P8 does not offer a microphone output. Certainly you can. SD Card Recording and Audio Interface Functionality : Designed for truly convenient portability, the PodTrack P8 can record directly to an SDHC card (up to 32GB capacity) or an SDXC card (up to 512GB capacity). A 4GB card will yield over three hours of 16-bit / 44.1 kHz 4-channel recording time using the BWF-compliant WAV format for uncompressed audio quality and industry-standard file compatibility. Note that media cards are available separately, and larger capacity cards may increase startup times. Alternatively, use the PodTrak P8 as a 2-in/2-out USB 2.0 audio interface (at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz) with your Mac/Windows computer or iOS/Android mobile device (separately available Apple Camera Connection Kit is required for use with iOS devices). >Mark
can you record all tracks simultiously AND have a stereo over usb to your computer (with e.g. OBS studio). And how does the mute and on-air buttons affect the recordings ?
@@BandH so if you are in a recording the mute and on air buttons do not matter? The tracks get individually recorded? Thats amazing for correcting mistakes afterwards?
The Zoom PodTrak P8 will connect to your computer via USB. It has two TRS balanced monitor outputs you could connect to your mixer if you so desire. Or you could use the ProAV2 from Radial Engineering BH #RAPROAV2: bhpho.to/3oh4PEl) to connect your mixer to the microphone inputs on the P8. >Mark
All of the Zoom PodTrak P8's mic inputs are configured for direct monitoring, as long as they are not muted. The On Air button can be used to control whether the mic inputs are sent to the podcast stereo file, speaker output jacks, and USB port, but there is no way to disable live monitoring for mic tracks. Instead, users who do not wish to hear a direct monitoring feed from connected microphones can lower or disable their personal headphone output.

Nice video, man! It's 2023, and Zoom has completely forgotten about the P8. There have been no updates since 2021, while their competitors have made incredible progress. It's quite disappointing for a major player in the recording field.
What stupid decision.... If you have TWO call phones at the same time, you cannot have music playing in the background of your show... You have a lot of of XLR inputs but you barely need more of two in a real situation... At least you are working for the BBC. What stupid decision, right now in pandemic times when you urgely need to connect more guesses over the phone, and still be able to play some backgroun music... What were hey thinking? These Zoom guys are always little off the line, they think more XLR is cool and pro but this is not the case

Of course you'd have to assemble the files in post but a dog trainer's clicker makes it easy to find the spike. And there seems to be less compression as compared to Skype, Facetime, Zoom etc.
@@BandH surely you can have multiple guests on say Zoom, Zencastr or similar and connect them?
does this have a (Mic) 3.5 LINE OUT to run it directly to your camera in order to bypass a computer (USB)???
The Zoom PodTrak P8 does not offer a microphone output. Many cameras do offer switchable line/mic inputs, however. >Mark<
Analog Audio I/O:
6 x XLR 3-Pin Balanced Mic Input
6 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRS Unbalanced Headphone Output
2 x 1/4" TRS Balanced Monitor Output
1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRRS Unbalanced Aux In/Out
Does anyone have a more specific release date?!
Can you integrate it with cpu recording? I record on a computer it I would love to utilize the sound pads and phone call features of this.
Certainly you can.
SD Card Recording and Audio Interface Functionality
:
Designed for truly convenient portability, the PodTrack P8 can record directly to an SDHC card (up to 32GB capacity) or an SDXC card (up to 512GB capacity).
>Mark
Does this have an output that I could connect to a camera to push the audio there?
Yes! The Zoom PodTrak P8 offers a 1 x 1/8" / 3.5 mm TRRS Unbalanced Aux In/Out. >Mark
Can I use this think to multitrack a band? Looks awesome
Sure. But be aware that the mic inputs are not switchable to line level. or instrument level. >Mark
@@BandH Why would they not have at least 2 line level inputs. That's Frustrating.
Use two, 1/4" FM to XLRM inline mic transformers, (buy one for each instrument), or just use direct boxes to the input channels...it's the same thing.
In our day and age the channels volumes do not change the volume of the channel on playback!!!!!,?.?!!
can you record all tracks simultiously AND have a stereo over usb to your computer (with e.g. OBS studio).
And how does the mute and on-air buttons affect the recordings ?
Yes you can operate the P8 in this manner. The Mute and On-Air buttons will not adversely affect the recording. >Mark
@@BandH so if you are in a recording the mute and on air buttons do not matter? The tracks get individually recorded? Thats amazing for correcting mistakes afterwards?
Adding the $50 Bluetooth adapter closes the gap with the RODECaster PRO to only $50
So this has no real noise gate? Kinda sad. Very imporant feature, that is missing.
Can I do a podcast with 6 people and 6 mics with the podtrak p8?
Yes, it has 6 XLR 3-Pin Balanced Mic Inputs.
Hey can I connect a mixer this zoom unit on my pc so they work together ?
The Zoom PodTrak P8 will connect to your computer via USB. It has two TRS balanced monitor outputs you could connect to your mixer if you so desire. Or you could use the ProAV2 from Radial Engineering BH #RAPROAV2: bhpho.to/3oh4PEl) to connect your mixer to the microphone inputs on the P8. >Mark
love the guitar song
Is there a release date for this?
There is currently an expected availability in Mid November 2020.
how do I turn off mic monitoring? Please help.

@@BandH thanks for the advice but the problem is the app it is not applicable to One Plus 8 :(
Oof. I need this for my podcasts and RUclips gaming stuff!
Good video. If you want to donate a used unit let me know.
They screwed up making the phone a permanent track and not USB. If they flip those two this would be a perfect podcast board.
AWESOME
Nice video, man!
It's 2023, and Zoom has completely forgotten about the P8. There have been no updates since 2021, while their competitors have made incredible progress. It's quite disappointing for a major player in the recording field.
This is tasty looking.
Damn those flimsy buttons, Zoom!
5:46 am at the time I’m watching this, and now I want pizza 🥴
it is now 9:06am and I hope you got your pizza
Lol
What stupid decision.... If you have TWO call phones at the same time, you cannot have music playing in the background of your show... You have a lot of of XLR inputs but you barely need more of two in a real situation... At least you are working for the BBC.
What stupid decision, right now in pandemic times when you urgely need to connect more guesses over the phone, and still be able to play some backgroun music... What were hey thinking? These Zoom guys are always little off the line, they think more XLR is cool and pro but this is not the case
