I bought the Rodecaster Pro and it sounded terrible. They claim it is supposed to have studio-quality sound but it didn't sound like that at all. it was echoing so I sent it back. I am looking into getting the Zoom Podtrak 8 in the near future. Thanks for the review.
The sound quality from this podcast mixer is really good! I am looking for a review of this podcast mixer used as an audio interface and used to record music like playing the guitar and singing at the same time. Thanks for the nice review.
You're welcome. The Livetrak L8 has 1/4 inch inputs as well as XLR. If you're doing live music that may better suit your needs. I did a video on that mixer too. The Podtrak P8 is more catered to voice focused podcasting.
I see a lot of potential here but I wish they would have used hard buttons for the sound banks. That menu looks a little tight for an adult finger and the buttons would have made it much quicker!
I also see that when you record in multitrack it saves them each as a .wav which is a huge plus for someone like me who will be going back and editing in post. Rodecaster you can do that too but you have to convert the file first or use a program like Adobe Audition to record.
@@HarrisonFamilyValues I think this is the one I'm going to go with. I'm building a studio for others to use. I'll probably get the Rodecaster for the house to have both

They should just copy the roadcaster and put them in the back. The rodecaster still looks like the updated version of the 2.
I agree with both of what you said. Integration of the Bluetooth would have still made it cheaper. And the Rodecaster Pro is definitely a better looking product. Better anesthetics
Hi, I know i am late to the party but great video. Question, how do you have your P8 connected to your video mixer. I know you commented on atem mini but I am not clear on the set up. If you can assist would be greatly helpful.
Hi, I actually run both into my PC separately. I use the Atem like my Webcam and the Podtrak P8 is used as my sound card for the mic and headphones/speakers. It works seamlessly. There is a way to connect it to the Atem but I'd recommend it only if you have the pro or above, but even them you may have better results just running both into a PC or Mac separately

I accidentally found this unit from your video. I have been researching units comparable to the Rode. Both are sufficient, but I actually need one with less inputs, as I will more than likely never have a 2nd person in house. Do you know of anything like that? And I'm also curious about the phone calls. What if you were hosting a live through something like streamyard where you have a co-host and a guest on the phone. Would everyone in the stream be able to hear the person on the phone and would the person on the phone be able to hear a co-host? Thanks in advance and great video
Hi @Strung Out Oudoors. This unit may be much if you don't need the extra inputs. Have you researched the GoXLR? They have one mic input and there are inputs for a mic and headphones that you can possibly use a splitter with. This does work with Streamyards with the panelists able to hear the phone call and the caller able to hear them. I have never used the GoXLR so I don't know much about it but I'd recommend researching that to see if that unit has a mix minus for phone calls.
Will this work with Windows so I can separate discord, spotify, OBS, etc?? I'm searching for a mixer that can do that, but also connect my phone and have the sound FX too for a live stream. Thanks for the great review.

Greetings Mr. Harrison, I’ve just acquired the Zoom PodTrak P8. All-in-All it’s a good unit-save one issue I have a question about. While the preamp noise floor can be low (depending upon which dynamic / condenser mic is used), it can add quite a bit of noise when the compressor / de-esser is on. So… Q. Although there is 70dB of gain, have you tried using a ‘mic activator’ with a dynamic mic so the mic preamp gain can be lowered and, thus, when turning on the compressor / de-esser the noise won’t be so prominent? yYM
Are you referring when listening using the headphones? Those preamps are not so great but I found that even though the headphones sounded wonky the main audio feeds sounded crisp
@@HarrisonFamilyValues Sorry I wasn’t clear. I was inquiring about the noise with regards to the mic preamps. Best Practices is to get the cleanest recording between -9dB and -6dB before post processing so as to not have to chase those hissy noise floor gremlins. So, for example: All other things being equal, a dynamic mic with a sensitivity of, say, -59dB (like the Shure SM7B) is going contribute to a higher noise floor than, say, a mic with -48dB (like the Audio-Technica BP40). I.e., if using the BP40, you‘d need to set the pre-fader mic gain lower to get the same level in the 'Good' range. This translates to lower noise from the preamp. Now, when you add a compressor, it compresses any noise and, thus, the noise is now louder (more prominent) overall. My idea was to add an inline ‘mic activator’ so the initial mic gain setting is lower. Thus, when the compressor / de-esser is turned on, will there be far less noise added?
I've never done it but if you get 1/8 male trs to 1/8 male trs it should work, but I don't think that's the best option for quality. I would do that but still record to SD card and sync audio in post
