I saw Motorhead in 1981 at the Long Beach arena. I was 18. They opened for Ozzy on the Blizzard of Oz tour. I am now 57 and have seen a ton of bands. Motorhead still stands out as the loudest band I have ever heard. They were fucking jaw dropping as I had never heard of them before. Great times.

Bet they wanked all over Ozzy .I know they were best friends n all ,but that blizzard of ozz tour was totally overrated. Motorhead were at their peak : the BoO show was merely acceptable when I saw them at Hammy being totally upstaged by Budgie

This is absolutely the best taping of the original Motörhead trio. I'm a little unsure whether a Motörhead enthusiast can say this, but I got tears in my eyes when I first heard Overkill of this video. It was like when I first heard the record No Sleep til Hammersmith.

What a fucking furious machine this band was. I was lucky to see the AoS tour opening for Ozzy with Randy on guitar. Unbelievable. As much as I like all incarnations of Motörhead, and know that Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee are awesome players, this classic lineup just had such incredible chemistry. I always felt Robertson was really overrated, although I always liked Another Perfect Day. His solos just seem kind of lame to me- Eddie had much more natural feel and more melody. Eddie's stuff is easier to play, but I'd rather hear David Gilmour than Michael Angelo, know what I mean?
Lemmy was and always will remain the King. He and Philthy had such class and were great foils for each other- they could have been a comedy team- and often were! Saturating myself with 10x more Motörhead than usual since Lemmy's passing. He gave everything he had right until the end- what champion. But if anyone deserves a rest, it's him...

Holy fuck UTV's very own Paul Clarke reporting back in 1981 on the legendary Motorhead. I wasn't even born then and this band my favourite band of all time around about 1995 when I first got into them. I swam in that leisure centre too 😆 but true shame I missed this gig. I would have went had I been around. Waited until 2001 to see them finally in Belfast again in the Ulster Hall.

Love the fact that Motorhead played Belfast in 1981! .. I guess Lemmy being Welsh probably had a more realistic grip on the situation and didn't fall into the trap of listening to the advice of London based agents who hadn't every travelled north of the Watford gap.
The fact is a lot of Rock and Metal bands played NI in the 1970s and 1980s - fair play to em.

Wish I’d been old enough to go to this. Fantastic band. I first became aware of them as a small person catching a sneaky watch of The Young Ones, just epic! On a not-very-related note, the broadcaster - Paul somebody I think - went to my school. He was invited back to speak at one of those school presentation things. The first thing he said was that he did seriously crap at examinations. The Christian Brothers weren’t too impressed, we just laughed our heads off.

That was the year when my brother and me saw them together with Tank (raw as fuck, too!!) in Germany, Dortmund, December, 7th...until today nothing ever came close to the BRUTAL volume peak that evening...I was 16 years old and was scared to death...also the audience was made of local rockers who tried to knock off each other...I was robbed of my Motörhead backpatch by a real asshole 20 or 30 years older than me standing behind me with a knife to cut it from my jacket...that happened during the long awaited favetrack "Overkill", what a bad timing...anyway, it took 3 days until I could understand a word again, LOUD!!!

From 1976-1981 there was no band heavier and faster than Motorhead, except this new band called Metallica, who were reared on Motorhead during that time. Long live Lemmy and Phil, the kings of loud and fast speedfreak rock n roll.
