I have tried a recipe with flax seeds (1 spoon flax seeds + 1 glass of water). Let it boil for 5-7 min. until the gel of the flax seeds comes out. If it is too gelatinous, add some more water. It should be slightly yellow and a bit liquid. Apply on dry hair. It works like magic and it is not sticky. You can keep the gel in the fridge. You can boil the same flax seeds once again with 1 glass of water to make another batch.
I used to do this with my fringe, it works. I will try doing this with the rest of the hair. I don't use a hair straightener anymore and my hair has improved so much.
In Cape Town we did the swirl we called it 😊 same process but without the pins then cut off a part of stocking leg made a knot one side to make a cap and put it over the swirled hair. Leave it in for as long as possible when released hair is straight.

We Moroccan women call this technique (Patcha) as most of us have curly hair and I reckon most North African women have the same type of hair
