Werner had his life flash before his eyes while he was fixing the dynamite. That's what inspired his immediate need to see his wife. And yeah, Kai was a huge red herring.

Werner was quite stupid. It is very obvious that Gus was not playing around and Werner was acting like shit was gonna be okay. He took the job knowing the stakes and almost got his wife murdered. Mike should have slapped him silly in that same bar he punched Walter. Werner taught Mike a lot about not showing too much compassion, or taking a "half measure"

Lalo comes across with a mask of friendly smiles but gives off the perfect vibe of someone very dangerous. Gus comes across with a mask of calm reserve and professionalism but can also give off a vibe of someone very dangerous.
I absolutely love the conversation between Gus and Lalo. When talking to Gus, Lalo was baiting Gus perfectly to test him. Gus responded perfectly in Gus fashion by not taking the bait. Both men were too smart. Both men knew the entire conversation was nothing but a test. Both men knew quite clearly not to trust the other.
PS: The actor Tony Dalton plays the character Lalo brilliantly. Yet another name to add to the list of great actors in this show.

With Gus & Walter on Breaking Bad it was always Gus playing tournament-level chess against Walt futzing around with checkers & patting himself on the back thinking he was actually playing on Gus's level. But here with Gus & Lalo's very first scene of exchanging pleasantries we have two Grand Master chess players facing off against each other beneath the surface.

I forget where, but I once heard someone describe Lalo as the kind of guy who could show up to a barbecue and be immediate friends with everyone, laughing and smiling, but then turn around and kill them all without hesitation if he felt like he had to

@@briangonigal3974 Walt is FAR more intelligent than Gus, he just had low street smarts or drug dealer smarts. Gus played chess while Walter blew the chessboard up from a safe distance, making the game unplayable for Gus. Walter would run the drug game if he was born into it like Gus. He picked that shit up at 50 years old

@@dakingataleedo No, unless you're talking specifically about chemistry or science, Gus has always been way smarter than Walt. The only way Walt won is he happened to stumble upon Gus's one weakness: his hatred for Hector & obsession with with getting his revenge blinded him from the cold, dispassionate, analytical logic with which he so successfully approached everything else in his life. Tyruss could feel that something was up, he tried to convince Gus to let him take care of it, but Gus said no, "I do this." If the time had come to finally put Hector down, there's no way Gus was gonna let it be anyone but him standing there face-to-face with Hector, and both Hector & Walt knew it. Gus otherwise did a perfect job of keeping himself out of Walt's reach, but he just could not keep himself from giving Walt this one opening.

    • @dakingataleedo

@@briangonigal3974 In chess, one "opening" is all it takes for a checkmate. Gus had 20 times more resources and no ego, that was the advantage he had. Gus also had nobody to care for other than himself, another advantage. Nobody in the show was more intelligent than Walter and it was not close. For you to say he was "way" more intelligent makes me wonder if you watched the show. Walter figured out Gus' plan with Gale instantly and won which is why gus had to show force instead of finesse, Walter figured out Gus' plan to drive a wedge between him and Jesse instantly. Walter was able to bring a ghost out of hiding, he has far more weaknesses but only needed to exploit ONE to kill Gus. Walt ran a drug empire with 4 people, when Gus needed hundreds. Take Walters family out of the equation and give him a small army of men, he would be completely untouchable. Shit was running very smooth until Walter came around.

That scene with the dynamite I think is this entire show in a microcosm. If this were Breaking Bad, we would expect that dynamite to explode and ruin everyone's lives. But instead, it doesn't, and the tension just builds and builds, and even when everything goes right in the end, you still feel stressed and disheartened because you already know what's going to happen.

The hard part of demolitions isn't wiring, it's planning where and how much to blast to get the desired effect. That's the skill Kai was needed for.

The best thing about Lalo is that unlike the rest of his family, you don't really know what he's planning or what he's thinking. The other Salamanca's are so quick to show their emotions, but him, he's playing 4D chess while you're playing checkers, and you don't see it coming.

You are gonna hate me for sayin this lol but Kim is Chuck in a weird sort of way... She is his conscience to tell him when he us doing wrong, and he does a lot of wrongs. However the difference is that she is doin so to help him rather than bring him down.

    • @endorphinzz
      @endorphinzz 4 года назад +7

They were both doing it to help him, but in different ways. The real difference was that Chuck made judgements about/against Jimmy as where Kim tried not to. Jimmy hated being judged probably because he didn't like looking in the mirror and judgement pretty much causes him to do so.

okay, i know Jimmy was mainly projecting in that argument, but he's not completely wrong about Kim. Kim wants to engage in the thrill of Jimmy's antics without any of the consequence. She wants to do all the little schemes he does because it's fun but she wants to maintain her appearance as a good lawyer. She's afraid of being seen as scummy as he is. Jimmy even calls her out a little bit earlier. She wants to have her cake and eat it too.
which . . . in a way . . .. makes her more dishonest than Jimmy. Because at least everyone knows what Jimmy's about.
and btw, she brings up bailing Huell out as a point against Jimmy but . . . . SHE'S the one who came up with the plan, SHE'S the one who initiated sex afterwards and most importantly, SHE devised the plan that happened after that. She's the one who said "let's do it again".
She's flimsy. She has her fun as Gisele but then she acts like she's above that when it's convenient for her.
