    Hey guys it’s Seth. I wanted to say thank you Nolan for trusting my with your car. It’s been a blast so far and I’ve got some big things planned for it. Growing up this was THE car for me, so it’s truly been a dream come true. Thank you to everyone at donut for showing me around and hanging out, I had a blast.

      I'm leaving a comment for those S197 owners that it didn't work. I had to use Gorilla brand construction adhesive for it to finally hold. I was using 3m green extra strength spray adhesive, but living in utah were winters go down to 10F and summers up to 100F that transition would make them fall off every summer.

    This is an important point for younger car folks. MODIFYING YOUR CAR DECREASES VALUE. So many times I see folks trying to recoup the cost of mods in the sale price. Be smart, put it back stock before selling and pray your buyer doesn't look over the car with a fine toothed comb.

    • @TheHuskyK9
      @TheHuskyK9 17 дней назад +17

      Yep, learned this from my brother working in insurance claims. The amount of people thinking that the car's value going up due to them modifying it is insane, and when he has to tell them that it doesn't, they never believe him lol. NEVER throw away your stock parts unless they are non-functional

    • @Original2c
      @Original2c 17 дней назад +4

      @@TheHuskyK9 only time a car goes up in value from being modified is when it is done as some promotional bit for a company. anyone who doesn't know this is just young and oblivious to the ways of the world. an rwb porsche is gonna be worth a lot more than a average standard trim 911. at the same time buying all the body parts and doing it yourself instead of having akira do it himself with put you deeply in the hole when it comes to resale.
      logic and common sense are free, but rarely do they given out as such.

      Depending on the age and/or mileage of the car, modifications don't necessarily lower the value, but it certainly does not raise it

    • @Original2c
      @Original2c 16 дней назад

      @@jerodwolford2743 modding your car without it being protected by a warrantee or guarantee from professionals will never raise the value of your car period.
      You might feel it does. Hell, you could replace every piece of trim with 24k gold. The car will sell for more than stock sure, but thats because of the price of the gold.
      If you subtract the cost of getting said 24k gold trim from the total resale value, the car would still be lower than aberage market price, and you likely didnt get full roi on that gold to break even.
      You would still be just as far in the negative if not worse off for any mods.
      As ive already stated. The only time your value goes up is professional modifications from verifiable companies with good rep.
      If rwb builds you a porsche, yes, its worth more than a stock 911.
      If throttle, or eighty80, or some other brand does a full custom build on a 2jz supra, a corvette, etc. that is worth more.
      If you did it in your garage/ on your own time, its not worth jack diddly squat. Doesnt matter how well you did, doesnt matter if you had the highest end equipment, tools, and aftermarket components.
      If it didnt get put together by pro’s with some form of insurance backing it up, its not gonna be worth more. This is just common sense bud.

    I feel you, Nolan. When I sold my SRT-4, it was incredibly tough. The guy practically had to pry the keys from my hand. To anyone else, it was just an SRT-4, but to me, it represented countless memories and hard work. Every spot on that car reminded me of a moment-whether it was a friend helping out, my dad lending a hand, or a memory made along the way. It's crazy how we can become emotionally attached to an inanimate object, but we certainly can.

      So true. I just put my motorcycle on sale to buy a new one - don't have money and space for two machines... A guy reached out today said he will come to check it out. I went to the shop, fired it up, and had a soul wrenching feeling... It is my very first bike, I had it for 8 years - spent more time wrenching that riding, touched every bolt... I poured so much money in Japanese parts in it and learned everything about wrenching thanks to this machine. It's given me a tough time, but when it runs, it rides and handles sooo good. Now that it's all fixed, I know I have to move on (before it breaks down again, lol), but I already know I am gonna regret that decision. My Yamaha put a smile on my face every time I rode it, and every time it fired up again after I fixed another part of it. As you said, it is an inanimate object, but damn, it will put a smile on your face like only few humans will....

    I once owned a beautiful Chevy k5 blazer, 4 speed manual 350v8, lifted 2 inches on 35 inch tires. it was a beast on and off the road and rolling into town with the top off was always a blast and the thing turned heads literally everywhere.
    I had just gotten all of the rust fixed when a bad breakup put me in a depressed state of mind where I sold off/traded alot of my really cool stuff, including the blazer. I almost immediately regretted it and do still to this day. I have a k10 shortbed that sortof fills the void...but man that blazer was my dream truck. My dad had one that I grew up riding in, and I was so happy when I was finally driving one that I could call my own.
    That truck still hurts to think about, to this day. Id go into debt, sell everything I own...to have that truck back. Sadly the guy I sold it to resold it almost immediately, and has no idea where it is today.

    I understand Nolan. I had a 2005 MINI Cooper S (R53). I drove it for nearly 15 years and put on over 200k miles on it. Drove it all across the east coast, and making a yearly trip down to MINIs on the Dragon every year for 9 years straight (1000 miles each way). It inspired me to create a local MINI group in my area, and even held a MINI event in NY/VT for several years. I eventually got a new daily driver and this became my weekend warrior, and I finally picked up a classic Mini that I was going to be building. So unfortunately she had to go. It just wasn't getting driven enough and my project car money was going toward the classic Mini now. Had it listed for nearly 2 years before selling it, because I wanted it to go to a person who would appreciate it. Turned down many offers because they weren't a good fit. Eventually found another MINI enthusiast who gave me my asking price and has been driving it and taking good care of it for the last couple years. They occasionally contact me about it as well, giving me update or asking me questions. It's been about 3 years and I still miss that car. I did tell the new owner if they ever want to sell the car, to let me know. So maybe she will be back in my driveway once again.

    I share this same feeling Nolan. I had a 2006 Mustang that was gifted to me from my grandfather. It wasn’t the perfect car either as it had twice the miles yours had and it too had an oil leak and the vinyl was falling off among other things. Being young and dumb the car ended up in a ditch and that was the last time I saw the car. What hurt even more was that my grandfather passed away a couple months later.

      I sold it to a family friend and told him if he ever planned to sell it, to contact me first. One day, about two years later, I found it on FB Marketplace, posted the day before, at an extremely low price. Called the guy to inquire and he told me the car was okay, just he had some financial problems and needed cash quickly. Sadly, someone contacted him on the same day he posted it and it was already sold.

    I had a heart-wrenching one of these moments...
    My favorite car _ever_ was a Mark 2 Toyota MR2, done up as an NA dailiable track car by my best mechanic, for his wife, and sold to me when he upgraded her to a Supra.
    I did NOT want to sell it, but I was pretty broke at the time, spent myself into bankruptcy living beyond my means in a luxury apartment. I'd just had to move in with a roommate in a smaller place in a crappier part of town with a much, _much_ longer commute (40 minutes up from 3 D: ) and... I'd been having radiator leakage issues. I was waiting for my next paycheck to get a new radiator, and in the meantime used one of those plastic pellet "fix leak" kits ((DO NOT USE, they're a scam at best, just like any quick-fix nonsense)).
    Predictably, it failed.
    It failed the next morning, on my incoming commute.
    On the highway.
    In rush hour.
    In a construction zone with no shoulders for 2.5 miles.
    Right at the start of the crazy-packed yet still 75 mph two-lane construction zone, I heard a pop, and the coolant temp gauge pinned to hot. I knew it was bad, but I had two choices: stop on the beltway in a two-lane construction zone and piss off _thousands_ of people behind me (and quite possibly cause a massive pile-up and end up killing some people)... or sacrifice some damage and just push it as gently as I could until I could pull over.
    I pushed it. And still coasted the last half-mile around a gradual banked left and slightly downhill, still pissing people off, but at least not causing an accident, then pulled over just as it opened up past the construction. Would I have pushed it, if I'd known that it'd *crack the effing block??*
    \*sighs* Yeah... probably. I didn't really have much of a choice at all.
    Totally broke, with what little money I did have going into a shitty rented Kia (this was _way_ before Kia had sorted their junk-bucket past out, probably like, an 02 Optima that felt like driving a couch rolling on marshmallows in a swimming pool on the deck of a dinghy in a hurricane... back when they were _literally_ BOGOing their cars to get them off the lots...)
    An old roommate heard about it, and was just buying a brand new car with his first pay cycle in his shiny new nuclear engineering job, and offered to give me his old car, for free. Delivered, registered, even took me out to lunch. It was the nicest thing a non-family-member has ever done for me, and I can't thank him enough... but going from an MR2 that I had to just dump for a tire tech's ridiculous low-ball offer of $700 (but he had me over a barrel and knew it) to a '98 Chevy Prism-aw, gawd, turns out they spelled it with a freaking z, and it's "Prizm", how lame is that??-however free it might've been, now _that_ was _pain,_ lemme tell ya. 😭
    It had _problems,_ too, but the biggest problem was just _being a Prizm,_ so I only drove it for about a year before buying my '03 Subaru Imprezza Outback Sport, which... is another story about not meeting your heroes, but yeah.
    Man, I miss that MR2.
    The guy I sold it to had a crate engine on order, the turbo motor from a Celica one generation up. He promised he'd let me drive it when it was in, but by then I'd moved away to run my own store (thus being able to _afford_ the Subaru). I hope it was as much fun as it promised to be! Though I'm actually not sure that much power plus some early turbo lag and the extra weight in the back would've done that super-nimble trackable gem any favors, but maybe.
    It was a touch underpowered how it was set up for me, especially after I significantly upgraded the wheels and tires from what Jose had had on it for dailying (if not quite compared to the track set he didn't sell me 'cause they cost nearly as much as the car and I couldn't afford them). But even so, it was a Miata-murdering _machine_ at the track, the couple of times I went. The short gearing meant that even at its ~180 HP, its

    I had an ‘07 Tundra that I drove for 9 years. Did all my own maintenance and the thing never gave me a lick of trouble. I traded up to a 1 ton diesel, but shed a few tears on trade-in day. That truck saw me through some great road trips and some tough ones.

    I sold my car to "move forward" in my relationship with my fiance. Terrible decision. A few years later, we broke up anyway. If someone loves you, they want you to have it.

    Watching this video reminds me of when I was like 13 and my dad had to sell his 2003 Toyota Tacoma. It was the first new car he bought when coming to the states and man did we go everywhere in that thing. It was a little tight going on road trips in the backseats with me and my sister but I still had a blast.

    I feel you, man. I have an S197 California Special with similar mods (GT500 wing, front splitter, and wheels), but it is a manual, and I don't think I'll ever sell it. In fact, it's only a few years away from getting its "Classic" plates. If anything, maybe a Coyote will go under the hood some day.

    I remember selling my fiat 500 abarth after owning it for 6 years. She was a great car that I put a lot of money into over the years. The day I sold it and saw it drive away, I felt the relief of not having to deal with fixing things on it anymore but god it was a blast to drive and I know I’ll buy another some day!

    I'm in the process of de-tuning the car I've had for the last 9 years or so so I can trade it for a newer one... I built it just the way I wanted it both in performance and looks. I've taken it to the track many times, made long trips, both my kids came home from the clinic when they were born in this car... Lots of stories and moments... So this hits right in the feelings.

    An option for the headlamps would be also to set sand to a high grit and cover with PPF. I did this on my '96 Accord almost five years ago and they still look new and protected from rocks.
