I'm 49 yrs old from Kalamazoo Michigan. I still have an '87 trx250r survivor I bought in 1999. Original bore, still has cross hatch marks. Equipped with 90's era Dynoport MX pipe and silencer. Pro-lite, V-Force, Roost Boost, replacement OEM plastics. Every other Saturday I wiff the delicious odor of burnt Klotz Super Techniplate as it tries to tear my arms out of their sockets. I WILL NEVER SELL IT. Love the movies! You did great work. Huevos 3 was my favorite. I was big into the soundtrack at the time
Red or Blue? I am a sucker for the 88' Red, 89' Mostly white are ok, most of the 86"-87" got rode into the dirt.. I have restored a Quadzilla and a CR500, My next project will be a 250r!! This is incredible. I was too young to really remember the two stroke era and I’ve always hoped to see some quality raw footage from those days. These videos have been awesome.
As a person who grew up riding in the woods, Bill Ballance was a hero to me. Can still remember his awesome segments. He had already switched to Yamaha before I really started to pay attention to the GNCC scene. Dude was straight up fast.
I remember seeing that Kawi in Dirtwheels back then. Was so stoked to see a potentially new 2 stroke race machine coming to the market. I was very disappointed that machine never saw the light of day, and that the death of 2 strokes in racing was only a few short years away.
Yeah, that sucked. I was actually talking with a guy that was with Team Green at the time today and he told me about some of the stuff that they had planned that never happened.
I had a kxf 250 tecate. It had a broken power valve stem when I got it. I replaced that and did some seat of the pants exhaust port work at the same time. I also owned an 85 cr500. Added an extra base gasket to it. Between the 2 I can't tell you which was more impressive. They both punched hard. I'm 6'4", also added 4" to the swingarm on the tecate and redid the shock. Lot of hill climbing at croom.
Thanks Wes, Your the reason I started racing motocross and TT all over the Midwest. Best day was running with Tim Farr and Harold Goodman and the pros at DQ Illinois dream come true
I absolutely loved this video, my dad rode with bill a few times and said that he was a unreal rider and that he didn’t even really ride with him cause he couldn’t keep up with him😂 wish I could’ve lived in this era!
Awesome footage! I was a little too young back in the 250r days. I grew up riding 400s and early 450s. I have an R now tho. LED370. Such a bad ass machine!
Man this brings back so many memories! H2 was on repeat in my house for quite some time and this scene was always sick to watch. That film also got me hooked on Slipknot haha. Still have the VHS tape. Would be cool to see a behind the scenes of Sean Sermini's "Stealth Air" haha. He's a local in my home town in MA. Really good dude. Thanks for keeping the videos coming Wes.
That would have been so much fun filming those guys back in the day. I really miss my Lobo chassis 250r. I guess I really didn't understand what a lobo chassis was and now I kick myself in the ass for getting rid of it realizing how valuable of a quad I had.
Bill is my neighbor. He's the man. He could shred any motocross track on his woods atv. No telling what he could do on a motocross atv. I wish he would race the legends race at Briarcliff in July.
Always wondered what happened to Bill after he retired. As successful as he was in gncc and being with yamaha for most of it he kind of faded away it seemed. Hope he is doing good dude is a legend!

I see Bill didn't disclose the vibrations the KX had over the Honda. I read they were filling the handlebars and frame tubes full of silicone in a hardware store parking lot before the first or second race to try to get a handle on it!
It’s hard to explain to people that think a stock 450 is hard to hang on to, just how much different a well built 250 2 stroke in an aftermarket chassis is. I’ve been on Zillas, banshees, 250rs and countless 450s but a laegar framed 250r is by far the wildest thing I’ve thrown my leg over.
