- This is moto 2 from the opening round of the 2001 AMA ATV Nationals at Echeconnee MX near Macon, GA. This was shot by the H-Bomb Films crew while Wes Miller was filming for Huevos 4.
Nobody would have thought that just a few years later the big 4 manufacturers would all have 450s. At least at that time I would have never dreamed it. I miss those days
Yeah, it has been crazy to watch the ebbs and flows of the ATV industry.
Cannondale did it best. What a heartbreak that company was. Ughhh
@@mitchellringel2059they were definitely ahead of their time, but I wouldn't day did it best. The LTR450 is easily the best production 450 ever made. You could pull a ton of HP out of them and nothing could touch them when it came to handling. That's why Walsh based his gen 2 hybrid on that chassis.
Love the sound of 2 and 4-strokes racing together.
Yeah, this was a very cool time in the sport.
This will always be my favorite era of quad racing. For the longest, it was the 2005/6-2010 era because we had never seen production quads that good. Now looking back, I prefer the short lived hybrid and 250r years. I've been out of racing for over 10 years now, but something about those machines were so cool. I guess it's also because those are the years that made me fall in love with the sport.
Awesome time!
So sick Wes, thanks for putting all this unseen footage out. It’s eapecialy cool to see the pros chatting it up after the ride, so much of us looked up to them like crazy growing up, make me feel like I was in the pits with them 🤙
Yeah, I have tons of behind the scenes footage that I will post.
This footage is awesome to see as someone who wasn't even born yet at the time! I love that the after moto talk between the racers was included
Yeah, it's cool to look back. I will be posting more.
I remember some footage from this track/event in Huevos 4 I believe. Wish I could go back and check. All my DVD's got lost in a garage fire in 2016. Sucks.
Yes, this is in Huevos 4. Sorry about the fire. I do have box set for sale on our website www.bombsquadracing.com.
Thanks I'll check that out soon as I'm able!@@WesMiller70
I've known Shane Hitt for a very long time because we grew up not far from each other. I miss seeing and hearing those 250R"s ripping around the tracks and woods!! Thanks for sharing!!
Shane is a good dude.
The first race of 2001 was actually the first race for Doug Gust on his TC DRZ400 hybrid.
Yeah, the hybrids were just coming around.
Huevos movies were sooo good. I loved huevos 4 /2 the most I think. Soundtracks in those films were the best
2, 3 and 4 were the best
It was always fun selecting the music.
Awesome wes! Thank you!!!!!
No problem. Spread the word, the more views I get on here, the more time that I can devote to it.
I watched the Red Bud race of Travis Spader the year he won Championship. Got a bunch of video and pictures. Nobody was touching him on that Roll Design 250R.
Travis was ripping that year!
Too bad we won’t ever live through an era like this again.
Yeah, it was a special time.
Yesterday I rode an ltr450 that JJ built . That bike was amazing 🤟🤟
That is awesome, JJ is the man!
@@WesMiller70 my next goal is to ride a 250r built by him lol
@@867dieselThat would be awesome. The one he's riding in this clip would be fun. He hauled ass on it!
@@WesMiller70 he hauled ass on them all
This is amazing stuff. Pumped to see all this upcoming footage. ❤️🇺🇸
I'm working on more.
I love this! Thanks Wes!!!!
I have more coming.
so rad to finally see the raw footage🤘. helmet cam footage would be cool too
I have a bunch of old helmet cam footage that I will be posting. It sucks because a lot of it doesn't have audio.
@@WesMiller70 we can make the sounds our selves haha
@@867diesel
@@WesMiller70 thats unfortunate but understandable. i used to try duct taping flip cameras onto my helmet back before the gopros took over with little success.
Wait until you see the behind the scenes of some of the shit we did. @@Jimbo718Slice
This is gold!
Lots more to come!
those last couple laps jones would find another gear. really make you realize how fast joel hetrick and his new machine are.
I raced B class .. that track gets so rough!! Momentum was/is important there. That track will tell you in 15 mins who is in shape and who isn't. I like rough tracks because i trained alot so i always excelled in that environment.
long live the 250r...i cant imagine if the puma cylinders were around and these guys rock out with 400+cc 250rs...so bad ass to hear the 4 strokes and 2 strokes. Keep em coming wes!
Thanks, there's more to come.
crazy to see how bad the suspension setups were back then compared to what the pros have now.
Some of those quads worked pretty damn good. That also was a really rough track. They go back there this year.
I had a Houser 426 back in the day and It rode awesome but was super soft also had custom axis shocks. I think everyone rode their quads way to soft back in the day. When I raced back in 2016 on my yfz I loved having the suspension stiffer mainly for hitting bigger jumps. overall everything about modern riding is a lot different. I feel the big double some of the dudes were rolling most C class kids would hit also. I love seeing these old clips do some Huevos 8 thats my favorite of all time. the red bud and Glen Hellen were awesome clips along with dana and Jason at jasons track. the jump over the grass always sticks with me. id love to see that behind the scene.
@@WesMiller70
There's plenty more coming.@@blakerichnow
Thank you Wes 🙏.
At 10:30 that is one young looking Mark Baldwin😂
Yes it is!
Wes,
I never post comments.
In late 40’s now and miss these days. I have home videos of my kids and a Huevos video is playing on the tv in background in so many of them. From Oklahoma and have pictures of when Bomb Squad came out and did a show at Little Sahara. Glad to see you posting these. I have all the Huevos videos. First 3 in VHS. Don’t even own a player anymore. Think the huevos videos will ever be released for digital purchase?
Great story. I have the videos available on DVD and am looking at digital options. But as of right now, they aren't available that way.
@@WesMiller70 there are a few of the newer DVD's that i didnt get . where can we go to buy them ? also id like to just buy new ones to save my original's . can never have too many Huevos videos
You can get dvd's and merch at www.bombsquadracing.com. @@867diesel
@@WesMiller70 sweet , right on man
Its great seeing these races again, I used to race at LACR, got to chat it up with Cory Ellis and Jeremy Schell. Great guys, they were definitely dominant in the pro class.
I think I was spectating at this race.
Hey look! It's a rough motocross track. To bad those don't exist anymore.
They're going back there this year, but I don't know what it's like anymore.
More of this stuff!!!!!!
I'm working on it. There is so much footage, it is pretty time consuming. But there is more coming.
By chance do you have any ‘B-Sides’ footage of when you guys went to the Idaho Dunes in Huevos 7? That’s my all time favorite section from the Huevos series, would love to see some raw footage of that if you have any. Thank you!
I should. I am going through everything.
@@WesMiller70 awesome! Bloody Cape by Deftones went so good with the footage, every time I listen to their self titled record I think of that Huevos installment. The glen helen section to Hexagram was really good also…
Yeah, definitely. I always liked their music.@@babyenzo.
@@WesMiller70 so fitting especially for that whole era of that video, did you have to reach out to the band or their management to be able to use em in the videos?
We dealt with bands, labels, managers all of the time.@@babyenzo.
Sick thanks for sharing
Neeed morrrrrre!!!
I ride with Keith little and met dana creamy in Russellville Alabama
Creach
He had a fun track there.
Damn! I wish I could've been there and in my prime.
It was a good time.
@@WesMiller70 Yeah, it looks like the Legend race was more fun (at least for the riders). That would've really been a good one to be at. Farr didn't look too happy in this one. lol
Yeah, a TT race is a lot more easy on the body. This track was brutal and really wore some guys out. I think Tim had crashed and had a bad back if I remember correctly. He wasn't a fan of that course. lol@@F5Tornado44
Can Redbud be next? ❤❤❤ Please please please!!
It's not next, but I'm sure I will have some footage from there at some point.
Sick 🎉
There is plenty more of this to come!
Gust nacs legend
Definitely
Back when gncc was still a gncc
What did the hybrids use for motors? 400ex, motors????
They used crf450 dirt bike motors. They where lightning fast, some quads used yz426 motors but the crf450 was by far more popular
YZ400F
440cc was the limit back then.
@@ARdave311 this was in 2001, so the CRF wasn't out yet. The quads that Farr and Ellis were on had Yamaha YZ426F motors in them. But you are correct on the CRF's later on.
Yz400f, then the 426. I had a 426 stroked to a 440 that had nothing but problems. Went back to the 426. I ran a 400ex frame, Tim Farr had a laeger 250r geometry frame with the 426 engine. Daryl Rath had a early walsh frame with a ktm 520, and Pintop custom axis 21 in shocks. Doug gust ran a dr 400 engine in a 250r geometry chassis. That led to the development of the ltz400.
Longlivethefourtrax250r
It was a badass quad. And by this point, they had them dialed.
@WesMiller70 I have a stocker resto 88. Yes, I have since painted my clutch cover🤣
