DIY Non-Toxic Toilet Cleaning Bomb | Never Scrub A Toilet Again With This Hack

- Here's an easy DIY to eliminate bathroom/toilet odor. It's also a great DIY non-toxic toilet cleaner.

Additional notes: Lemongrass, bergamot and grapefruit essential odors kill the odor. The entire product is not only very efficient, it will save you a lot of money then buying a similar product in the store!
Materials:
- 1 1/3 cup baking soda (deodorizes) // amzn.to/2SWWLtb
- 1/3 cup citric acid (removes stains) // amzn.to/2Gbyvku
- 30 drops each of the following essential oils:
Lemongrass // amzn.to/2GcYlVf
Bergamot // amzn.to/2HUazE4
Grapefruit // amzn.to/2ULVUMT (this blend will kill any odor!!)
- 3 drops of blue or green natural food coloring (just for pretty aesthetic)
Directions:
- Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the food coloring and mix well. Place the oils in a small spray bottle with 1/2 tsp water.
- Spritz the mixture until it feels like slightly wet (not too wet) sand.
- Press into silicone cookie molds or ice cube trays. Allow the bombs to dry completely before pressing out of the molds. Store in a mason jar with a pretty label.
To Use: Toss a bomb into the toilet BEFORE YOU GO (particularly #2). This way there will be zero odor.

I make these with the usual recipe.
1 cup baking soda, 1/4 cup citric acid n 1 tbsp dish soap miked together with a few drops of tea tree oil.

actually you can use this foe cleaning the garbage disposal too. We are always using baking soda & vinegar. This will leave it smelling fresh too.

Kaboom system, so far after 1 week seems to work to keep toilet clean, it has neat clip on inside of tank and uses water flow down the bowl fill pipe to flow water past their "tablets" (bleach + ? ) to achieve at least so far for me the magical clean bowl that relieves me from the every 4 day cleaning. I would say that the cheapo $1 urinal blocks might work as well; break them into small enough to fit into the Kaboom tank (KT is only 4" x 2" diam and has about a 1.24" opening to insert the tablets OR pay the $14 for bi-yearly replacements.

I've also heard about toilet bombs like this before and while I love the idea I have never seen someone actually review them and show how they work on an actual toilet.
I know it sounds silly but to show them going off in a bowl of clean water just reminds me of bath bombs, not something that I would be using to clean or deoderize my toilet 😕

Great question - Sometimes from Mountain Rose Herbs, sometimes from Amazon, sometimes from Nature's Garden (www.naturesgardencandles.com). Totally runs the gamete.
What size silicone molds are needed? I am seeing all different sizes and I’m not sure how small or big it needs to be. I’m supposing about 2 to 3 inches wide and 2 inches deep
Yes - exactly. And actually, you can make them as big or small as you want.

No, stick with the citric acid, which keeps them non-perishable
do we put it in the freezer?
You shouldn't need to freeze - They'll dry on their own!

Can you use vinegar instead of water?
I wouldn't the idea is for the scented oils to keep the order from coming while your going if you use vinegar you will not only change the fragrance but you may change the chemical reaction

This recipe took entirely way to long to fizz that's because she used only a 1/3 cup of citric acid. And ALL the host were corny and childish.
Baking soda destroys order so why do people put essential oils or any other sent in. Sales pitch for essential oils?

These hosts are dorks??? What are they thinking???? These toilet cleaners are super convenient so you don’t have to worry about wasting them
Citric Acid is NOT what makes the fizzing action..it’s the chemical reaction between acid and alkaline, which is any kinds of acid and any kinds of alkaline, in this case citric acid (acid) and baking soda (alkaline). If you sprinkle baking soda to use as the abrasive to scrub dirt and spray with full strength vinegar, it does fizz. When you combine large amount of baking soda and citric acid (use 2 to 1 ratio), it would create fizz and that fizz lifts away dirt and grimes from toilet bowl. Any kinds of vinegar including citrus acid eliminates odor too and not just baking soda.
Also please don’t act and present this recipe as if you came up with the recipe, NOT your original!!

Cute, but, um, I have to say, I'm not willing to flush my wonderful essential oils down the toilet. Plus, taking the time to do all of that (shop for and gather all those ingredients...not everyone has bergamot and citric acid lying around the house...), when all you're really doing is putting baking soda in the toilet, lol. I'm big on diy and going the nontoxic route, but keep it simple. And in this case, the simpler the better. I've also found that borax and vinegar works better than baking soda. Plop it in, let it sit... Then with all the time you saved in not making toilet bombs, go read a magazine or something else enjoyable (like not making a toilet bomb, lol)
