Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he made it. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. Joost himself said that his musical style is diverse. When Joost was asked what song they should listen to in order to understand you. He answered Florida 2009 (it's about his parents) and Wachtmuziek (it's about mental health). I recommend listening to them. You have to translate it, because he sings in Dutch.
End of the day, were all human. My father once told me it's a world without borders. ''I miss you every day'' is what I secretly whisper. See, dad.. I listened to you.
Europapa is a tribute to Joost's father. Through the song, the artist informs the listener that there are no limits if you want to make your dreams come true and tell your story. The tune is a madcap mix of melancholy and happiness, delivered with the poetic lyrics and catchy beats for which Joost has become renowned.
Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father (papa) said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision (Euro) Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. There is even a reference to Max Verstappen. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man training with weights represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The windmill is near where he spend his youth so also a trip trough memory lane to him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not be stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation. And "Europapa" is short for Eurovision Song contest and papa (dad). There are layers all trough the song and the video clip.
This song is about Joost who lost both his parents at young age. His father said go and discover the world and europe there are no bounderies.... but No.mather where he went his mental loss was always with him ! He hopes with this song to end this sad period, so he can open up for the world.
Not only his parents died but he also lived as a bum for a while on the streets. His motto is: Joost Klein (small) droomt (dreams) Groot (big)@@humbertokhouryofc

It's best if we get meanining out of this by thinking about for ourselves, instead of relying on others to tell us how to feel about this art. Thanks for the reaction, much love from the Netherlands!

In the song Joost tells the listener that there are no limits if you want to make your dreams come true and tell your story. He also says this about it. Fala Humberto!
