42, god bless all of you. I was beside you in 2003. You are all very professional and I am proud to have served right along beside you..........until you have served in these mens shoes, or any soldier, sailor, airman or marine, you people need to keep your comments to yourself..........thanks again 42 for all of your sacrifices
Often seems to be the individual preference I think. If they know they're often in areas where they drop to prone they likely will start carrying more there. Helmand's got a ton of big open fields (I think, I've never been out there, so I'm not speaking from any expertise here) so perhaps that may be why? Just a guess on my part, but eh. :p
@OKCtactical Yes, I know 10th Mntn very well, since we, 1-87 were among the first regular US Army units in theatre. Wat I said is true. We weren't getting the high altitude training needed. There were deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo. The above comment is very insightful, he has good instincts. PurplePunisher spot on...I digress...
If the US marines and army were that good how come a bunch of rice farmers kicked them out of Vietnam, just like Korea the US marines ran off that fast and left the Gloucester Reg to hold the Chinese off their backs.
@autotune360 The SAS is not a military force. Or my corrections, a LARGE military force. They are a small unit special ops. I don't think any any random SpecOps team can be looked down upon. But if "military" is what you want to compare. Look at Marines and Rangers from different countries. Those units are large enough to compare.
These men are waging war in one of the most inhospitable environments on earth. That is never easy. Try reading a history book every now and then (for reference). We could argue about why they are there in the first place but the reality is that won't make their current situation any better. People on the ground don't write policy. I'm sure they want this madness to end, too. God speed.
You two shouldn't argue about who the 'best is'. If you are actually good, you know the truth is in the individual, and all individual experiences vary. A title of SAS or Navy Seal means nothing. It is the individual experience that a group brings to the table, and every team is different. Some are better than others, while some still fall to others.
@TheTrickster626 To be fair I do see your frustration re reading the comment, we were in their because the US asked us too not voluntarily. I still stand by my statement however that I respect our soldiers fighting regardless of politicians sending them off to war zones to put their lives on the line.
@omgPepper My point is that foreign support for a national resistance struggle is legitimate, if the help of the foreign fighters is wanted by the national forces (as it was in Spain). I explained that I don't know if that is the case in Afghanistan. If you do, perhaps you can explain. You might also provide some evidence for your claim that the majority of the Taliban are not Afghan.
@omgPepper You have conceded that Afghans have a right to exisit occupation, that's good. Regarding the point you raised, about foreign fighters, the degree of legitimacy they have is equal to the extent to which the Afghan people want them to be there. I don't know the answer to that, but during the Spanish Civil War foreign fighters (international brigades) were welcomed by the Spanish people and many were given citizenship after the Franco era.
@tausendstein Theres nothing more brave than planting bombs in the middle of the roads that end up killing more civilians than troops. And planting bombs in houses and running out of it when the troops enter and make it explode. They sure are very brave.
They may be "rag tag" but it is their country meaning they have a big advantage as they know their country much better than we do despite being there 10 years. They may not be trained to the level our army is but they are willing to die for what they believe in and killing our troops is just a secondary objective. We use what we have available. What would be the point in technological advances if people like you would criticise for uses of them? Please think before you comment.
@Theozzie11 This is a public space where people can express their views. If you have anything of substance to contribute, let's hear it. If not, then perhaps it's better to say nothing at all.
@tausendstein But then again, the Taliban often hire mercenaries (actually just poor farmers or maybe foreign fighters) to fight NATO and ISAF troops. In other words, half the time, the Talibans don't even do their own fighting.
@BuddaH333 America has a military budget about 5 times that of Britain and yet they really dont have much better military tech than the British. Just because we (british) dont have the biggest military or export the most weapons in the world does not mean we arent the best trained in the world! because we are the best trained in the world ....thats FACT !!!
Really ? You got any experience to back this up? I did my commando tests at Lympstone with 6 usmc well i say "did" only 1 finished the 6 miler! As a swimmer cannoist in the corp i trained with seal's big, strong and loud cant swim without flippers all the gear .................
@rangliansoldier dude ok the korean war did not start in 1947 i will give you that but it did start in 1950 but i know that sas was formed by one guy david stirling and also no it was not called boer soldiers they wer called "L" Detachment, Special Air Service Brigade. so no you do your homework
@TheTrickster626 As said before never mind the political stuff I am proud of our soldiers fighting so bravely overseas, and last time I looked us Brits and Americans were allies fighting alongside each other, so peace yeah.
In Korea they ran that fast the Chinese could not catch them They threw away their weapons. that is fact read the history. In Vietnam they were chased out so fast they could not land Helicopters fast enough on ships and had to throw them over the side. fact not bitter fiction. People win and lose battles, facts of life what ever country.
Those are few out of many that do that sort of thing. Most are just sociopaths that just wanted an excuse to kill things, others driven mad by war. But like I said, these are few out of the many men and women serving us. Also some of those "innocent" woman and children are using guns, as well as having IEDs strapped to them.
@omgPepper I didn't compare them in the way you are suggesting and I think you know that. I have been an active communist and internationalist all my adult life and I have spent long periods overseas supporting liberation struggles. Frankly, I don't need lessons from you on the differences between the Taliban and the International Brigades.
I'm not defending anyone and I will not ever bash the UK military, but your comment on the US and Vietnam is wrong. Please read in to the specifics in Vietnam as to why the US pulled out. Certainly, the NVA and VC did not force the US out, and obviously the US military fought the entire conflict w/ 1 hand tied behind its back.
Britain tried, Russia tried, USA have tried, non won. They are tough resilient fighters. You will never beat them. Still keep trying. The UK should get out now.
@BuddaH333 a list of what?? thats just a load of percentages... is it percentages of failed missions or something? because then it would be about right... SAS pretty much leading the way as usual.
@supermotardmario eeeerrrr..... no 1943 the s.a.s was formed, they were in africa, they used their aa guns, stuck them on cars ( stripped them down to their chassis and then stuck the aa guns on them) then the nazi's had no idea if they were friend or foe. they were the first commandos ever. they were shut down in 1945 but they went active again in 1947 they for the Korean war... they gained their fame 1980 with the iranian embassy siege. you do your home work! who dares, wins.
william III ..wee no have technology...but wee no warey .....but you can't fighting with us ... wee invite you for come to fight wethout technology ...
@redword2007 because the coalition forces are doing nothing but trying to help the afghan people, and this is how they are treated... fair enough if the foreign occupent is killing innocents and starving the population but this is not the case, far from it....
Most people commenting are not special forces. So most of the info you all speak comes from a buddy of yours or published reports which are public. I'm ex milatary. Not. A SEAL, SAS, RECON or DELTA . It's funny that you know every aspect of Special forces but are not of that community. Most of this stuff is classified and secret anyway . So in the end it all comes down to pride in one's nation that you all get on here with your infinite knowledge ... Lol. You are now clear reply with
@redword2007 All people have a right to defend their homes. Against a foreign superpower that comes into their country claiming to bring peace and stability, but also against foreigners from Pakistan, Saudia Arabia etc that are more interested in reaching their personal paradise than the well beeing of the people living there for centuries. I despise the insurgents more because they should have a stronger connection and understandingt for the Afghans.
I think this "ok" needs help,I suggest initially he lies down in a dark room ; play smooth music and await medical help! JEEZ! this guy is seriously disturbed!
@supermotardmario he has a point you know what you are saying is bull shit cuz the S.A.S is a new regiment it's predecessor of what was the "L" Detachment, Special Air Service Brigade so get your facts straight
Wait, are you objecting to my comment?...... All I was saying,I guess in my own way is that you're doing what America is doing. Obviously on a smaller scale, but still the same.
@guitarhamster102 You have to admit, that the stupid Taliban are also somehow brave. They fight against many high tech countries which are using high-tech weapons. The Taliban have no airsupport, no tanks, no satelite navigated drones. They had no real combat training before going to fight. I dont like them because of their attitude, but You have to admit this.
navy seals kill to death ratio is 200-1 let alone MEUSOC, FORCE RECON, GREEN BERETS, AIR FORCE PARA RESCUE TEAM ECT. im just saying dont bash someone without knowing the facts but hey you cant say anything to a brit because they have the best and are the best at and of everything. also, British troops and American troops fight along side all the time. its only you poges that argue about who is better on youtube.
42, god bless all of you. I was beside you in 2003. @Satyr910 this is a list of 2011 !
@omgPepper
I didn't compare the Americans to Franco. I compared the International Brigades to what you call "foreigners."
Often seems to be the individual preference I think. If they know they're often in areas where they drop to prone they likely will start carrying more there. @525white lol spoekn like someone who was actualy there. It's good to see a comment like that. Reminds me of my time. Leaving WAS the best part lol.
If the US marines and army were that good how come a bunch of rice farmers kicked them out of Vietnam, just like Korea the US marines ran off that fast and left the Gloucester Reg to hold the Chinese off their backs.
@ antifaith29 haha so true, i was with EROC at MSG, Chimo dude
@BookerT48 Now that is a logic answer!!!

Whahahahhaa
Afghans have a right to resist foreign occupiers.
@autotune360
The SAS is not a military force. Or my corrections, a LARGE military force.

Royal Marines go straight to heaven
Because

They don't 'kick them out' they just leave because they're finished doing what they wanted to do.
Way to go Marines, I mean Royal Marines.
You two shouldn't argue about who the 'best is'. If you are actually good, you know the truth is in the individual, and all individual experiences vary. A title of SAS or Navy Seal means nothing. Aww, how cute, funny how the SAS train pretty much every US special, special needed should I say, forces
@xCRsoccerboy Cant really explain it , i dont know if i felt either of those things. It's more a case of suck it and see.
what matters here, matters over there. the us army mentality.
WE GOT A BLOKE IN BLACK
@TheTrickster626 To be fair I do see your frustration re reading the comment, we were in their because the US asked us too not voluntarily. I still stand by my statement however that I respect our soldiers fighting regardless of politicians sending them off to war zones to put their lives on the line.
@kyl64 yeah don't worry about that comment i made that was 8 months ago i was stupid i respect all ailed are army's the same now :)

@JustineBieberxoxo
If you're suggesting there is a moral equivalence between Al Qaeda and the US, I agree.
@omgPepper

@WAXY950 No thank you. But I do have plenty of grammer, which you appear to be lacking, and I'm quite willing to share it with you.
