Often seems to be the individual preference I think. If they know they're often in areas where they drop to prone they likely will start carrying more there. Helmand's got a ton of big open fields (I think, I've never been out there, so I'm not speaking from any expertise here) so perhaps that may be why? Just a guess on my part, but eh. :p

@OKCtactical Yes, I know 10th Mntn very well, since we, 1-87 were among the first regular US Army units in theatre. Wat I said is true. We weren't getting the high altitude training needed. There were deployments to Bosnia, Kosovo. The above comment is very insightful, he has good instincts. PurplePunisher spot on...I digress...

The SAS is not a military force. Or my corrections, a LARGE military force.
They are a small unit special ops. I don't think any any random SpecOps team can be looked down upon.
But if "military" is what you want to compare. Look at Marines and Rangers from different countries. Those units are large enough to compare.

These men are waging war in one of the most inhospitable environments on earth. That is never easy. Try reading a history book every now and then (for reference). We could argue about why they are there in the first place but the reality is that won't make their current situation any better. People on the ground don't write policy. I'm sure they want this madness to end, too. God speed.

You two shouldn't argue about who the 'best is'. If you are actually good, you know the truth is in the individual, and all individual experiences vary. A title of SAS or Navy Seal means nothing. It is the individual experience that a group brings to the table, and every team is different. Some are better than others, while some still fall to others.

My point is that foreign support for a national resistance struggle is legitimate, if the help of the foreign fighters is wanted by the national forces (as it was in Spain). I explained that I don't know if that is the case in Afghanistan. If you do, perhaps you can explain. You might also provide some evidence for your claim that the majority of the Taliban are not Afghan.

You have conceded that Afghans have a right to exisit occupation, that's good. Regarding the point you raised, about foreign fighters, the degree of legitimacy they have is equal to the extent to which the Afghan people want them to be there. I don't know the answer to that, but during the Spanish Civil War foreign fighters (international brigades) were welcomed by the Spanish people and many were given citizenship after the Franco era.

Theres nothing more brave than planting bombs in the middle of the roads that end up killing more civilians than troops. And planting bombs in houses and running out of it when the troops enter and make it explode. They sure are very brave.

They may be "rag tag" but it is their country meaning they have a big advantage as they know their country much better than we do despite being there 10 years. They may not be trained to the level our army is but they are willing to die for what they believe in and killing our troops is just a secondary objective.
We use what we have available. What would be the point in technological advances if people like you would criticise for uses of them?
    Please think before you comment.

People win and lose battles, facts of life what ever country.

I'm not defending anyone and I will not ever bash the UK military, but your comment on the US and Vietnam is wrong. Please read in to the specifics in Vietnam as to why the US pulled out. Certainly, the NVA and VC did not force the US out, and obviously the US military fought the entire conflict w/ 1 hand tied behind its back.

Against a foreign superpower that comes into their country claiming to bring peace and stability, but also against foreigners from Pakistan, Saudia Arabia etc that are more interested in reaching their personal paradise than the well beeing of the people living there for centuries. I despise the insurgents more because they should have a stronger connection and understandingt for the Afghans.

The Taliban have no airsupport, no tanks, no satelite navigated drones. They had no real combat training before going to fight. I dont like them because of their attitude, but You have to admit this.
