I think the problem here is that it doesn't have an optical drive, so it wouldn't be a viable option for Nintendo to make.

@vincentgarcia38 acknowledging reality isn't enabling anything. All you've saying is that you don't like how reality feels. Tough titties. Physical media will always have a place with collectors and that's where the market is. Accept it or don't, but acknowledging the reality isn't going to change it.
The whole "extend the screen" idea actually makes a lot more sense to me on a handheld then a TV. I'm surprised nobody's thought to do it before.
The results speak for themselves
No, definitely not. You keep a TV plugged in, handhelds use battery life. Chances are, after the first week, you’re not going to turn that on.
This is infinitely cooler than reactive LEDs behind a TV. And I mean, those setups are already pretty cool. Incredible how every single project you do is a banger, and you manage to document it so well.

I literally saw an ad yesterday about reactive ambient lighting strips to apply on TVs. Now one day later, in a new Shank video, it has advanced to the portablizing scene! That’s awesome!

This project looks cool as heck! Honestly love the use of Translucent Resin (I actually didn't know that type of resin existed). Also, neat how a Raspberry Pi was used without affecting the games at all. Still a Wii at heart.

Your multiple Console Mods like the 5 or so portable Wii/GC's and the "Real Boy" have inspired me to get into console modding, although I'm only able to do DMG's to GBA's at the moment.
The Real Boy Mod in particular gave me an idea for a portable NES/SNES in the same vain as your mod. I'm not the greatest or smartest at modding and I'm still learning, I think seeing you and others gives me motivation to get better, so thanks Shank!

i've been planning a similliar thing with this but instead with the switch, but only concept, since i have too much troubles with tech engineering. Gladly for you to make it yourself into an outstanding outcome.
