I thought Ryen wasn't going to be another national media type talking about how "terrible" Tatum played, makes him sound like a casual. When Dallas is focusing that much attention on him, he makes the right play and other guys get easy buckets. Why is that so difficult to understand? His defense has been fantastic, he's getting rebounds, he doesn't need to score a lot to have a good game. I've been hearing all playoffs long about Tatum having these supposed "bad" games and you look at the stat sheet and see everyone else on the team is benefitting from the way teams have attacked him. I'm just glad JT has matured and has become a much better playmaker than in the past, and if the NBA tallied assists the same way the NHL does, he would have a TON. I'm over 8 minutes into this video and Ryen hasn't even mentioned Porzingus once, you think he might have had an impact on the game? But no, Ryen wants to talk about Tatum being terrible.

Except for Poringis scoring 20, the game went pretty much like I expected. His defensive presence changed how the Mavs operated in the paint. Kyrie had the typical slow start that he's had all playoffs, except the Celtics focused on him defensively rather than Luka. Luka scored, didn't expect him to not get any assists, but Celtics defense rotates superbly on close out against the others and even when they did get open shots they reverted back to the median rather than the career shooting everyone was having. Mavs should get 2 wins. Celtics lose 1 game a series and Luka/Kyrie will have a game where they drop 70+ and dominate.

The patience and unselfish play from him is a key reason why the team shined on offense. For how well the Celtics have played all postseason, Tatum has been extremely underwhelming. He always has the most shots on the team and the worst shooting percentage. What is he shooting, like 35% in playoffs? He was a black hole in the 4th when the game was already over, trying to rack up l garbage stats. Him and Hardy were going shot for shot for like 5 minutes straight till Tatum got pulled. Kristap/Brown/Jrue/White were all great on both ends of the court. Game 1: 6/16, 3/7 from 3; Game 2: 6/22 (1/7 in the 4th, 0/3 at the rim), 1/7 from 3. A typical pair of Tatum postseason performances this year that were totally predictable for anyone who's watched him.
Like you say, his playmaking and attracting attention is good, but you can do that and not take a high volume of the worst shots you've ever seen (rather than the wide open catch-and-shoot 3s he got served and declined all 2nd half), plus being unable to finish at the basket. Luka is getting the attention of 2 all defense guards, plus a heavy dose of elite Brown defense and solid Tatum defense when it's not those 3. Meanwhile, Tatum is struggling in matchups against half-injured, gassed Luka, cast-off PJ Washington, and rookie Lively.
Tatum is a silver linings, rationalizations, shrink in the moment superstar. Tell me the last game he dominated and was the best player on the court besides game 3 against the Haliburton-less Pacers (and even then Nembhard was arguably better). You will have to go back to the regular season. He's been total dogshit all playoffs and if he didn't have the most loaded roster in the NBA, he would be literally Cade Cunningham. Tatum is Paul George with the luckiest career since Tim Duncan.

You have to be a tatum hater at this point russillo... Tatum played great in game 1.. Dude controlled our entire offense the entire game and continuously broke down and put the mavs defense in rotation which got us open shots all game.. Him not scoring a lot when the entire team is collapsing on him is just letting him get our guys wide open 3s.. Him also being able to defend centers and out rebound the mavs lets bostons entire defense work by keeping our centers on bad shooters so they can help defense and not be in the pick and roll which stops the mavs from getting any lobs... Wild how much you down play tatum.. Trying to say SGA and ANT and brunson are better than this dude..

What do you think the three guys you listed on the bottom are doing with this Celtics team? Celtics have the best TEAM and it’s evident. And when Tatum doesn’t have that around him he is not that great. And even with a great team around him he has been well below average as the supposed best player on the team. Considering his number one asset is scoring, if he’s shooting below 45 and 6 turnovers what is he really doing? All the things you praise him for is what he should do as supposed superstar. If any other best player of their team has that game opening game of finals you would be killing them. Stop sucking off Tatum

Tatum did all the important things like creating shots, rebounding, and screening… Tatum is an excellent ROLE PLAYER… most overrated “star” ever

Not even close....most playoff wins...playoff points than any player over the time he's been in the legue ...and by end of this series it will be most every other Stat in the playoffs.. if that's "over rated" than I want 5 more tatums. Lmao.

      Lmao.
In the Cavs series, Tatum led his team in points, rebounds, assists and steals.
In the Indiana series, he averaged 30,10 and 5.
And you conclude he’s a “role player”. Just admit you know nothing about basketball.
