Commenting again to add my tip ... I keep a list of all the circle sizes from the various sets as I sometimes find a need to have a ready made template instead of drafting one with a compass and cutting card which never produces a smooth edge!
Love your organization on sew simple shapes by putting them on the large binder rings. Another idea that I also liked was the separate binder for the cutting guide I'm going to try that method as well. Thank you for sharing all your tips which are very helpful. Your quilts are so beautiful.
Thank you so much. I do like having the guide for all the shapes separate, as the binders with all the shapes can get heavy and cumbersome to flip through. Nice to have a reference so i can grab what i need
Lora, I love to organize. I do love rewatching your organizing tips over. I started to write the tips I don’t do on a master list yesterday to help me remember some of them. I am Quilting Along with How to build a Scarecrow. Received my kit yesterday and started to cut cut cut! My first two blocks are ready to sew. Since my kit was just delivered I just started cutting the fabrics for the two blocks. I have fabrics for 3-5 set aside so I can cut those next Gand will cut this one in the order of the blocks. I know use my table standing Crop-A-Dile to hole punch my shapes. So much better and no lost shapes!!!! Love that tip thank you.
LOVE IT!! Thanks so much for watching. I have the table standing crop a dile, too. Good luck with the scarecrow quilt. I have my first 2 blocks done, but I have 20 more of the pieced border blocks to do.. hoping to get more of those done this week/weekend. :)
@@lorabrinkman oh I printed out the quilt picture on the last page of the guide numbered them so I have a visual of the block fabrics used. I used your tip to put them on a tray. I used to just add them to my plastic envelopes but the tray is so much more efficient for easy grab and clip. Loved that tip too! ~Martha
Lora, that is a great solution for those templates. I was looking for an idea to store them so they could stay nice and protected. So guess what I am doing this week-end! I love the Quilted Scarecrow, but I am not doing the quilt. I am stitching the Quilted Scarecrow cross stitch. I love the colors, one change I am making is the color of the shirt. It will be pink gingham. Not the original color on the pattern. I really like all that we get for free from Lori Holt projects. Have a nice weekend.
Lora can u possibly provide a sew simple shape list ? I think I have them all to the current how to make a scarecrow ( waiting for delivery ) thank u for sharing your organization tips ❤
I made a written list of the shapes A (Bloom) through P (Bee Vintage) and will add Q (How To Build A Scarecrow) and all others as I buy them. Injustice add it to the front of my Sew Simple Shapes printouts and add one where I store my Sew Simple Shapes. I do not store my shapes with my printouts so that if I need to reference the sheets it’s not so bulky or heavy.
Really excellent! love your methodology and will adopt this. I don't have all the sets as I haven't done all the sew alongs _ I gave up keeping up some time ago so only buy the sets for ones I really want to do. I hate not being able to find things quickly when I want them. Thanks for sharing x
Omg! I used your method for my calico garden shapes and it was seriously so helpful!! Also, formal request for you to do some calico garden blocks 🙏🏼🫶🏻🥰
I'm so glad! I do like having them in order... especially when I trace 3 and need 4 of something! I don't have to dig through to find the shape back. Ha! I'll have to give some thought to the Calico Garden blocks. I've made the quilt once and there are a few others that I haven't, so it probably won't be anytime soon. That quilt was definitely a little more advanced, in my opinion, because of all the sections that overlapped. It's a gorgeous quilt. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Your way of organizing the sew simple shapes is very helpful. Many times I've found myself getting frustrated trying to locate a certain template and this would solve that problem. Riley Blake should hire you as consultant or give you a title of some sort as you have perfected a method for "ease of use"! I've also thought the shapes are slightly overpriced yet have purchased a few sets since I love everything Lori Holt designs.
Hi Lora! I have the kit for Home Town. Although, I’m not going to join you on your journey with the scarecrow, I will watch your progress. I only have 2 sets of Sew Simple Shapes. have done Chicken Salad, which was lots of fun and look forward to doing Home Town. Have you done all of her quilts with the SSS? Which of her SSS quilts do you love the most?
I haven't done all of them but quite a few. I'm a huge fan of Prairie Meadow and Granny's Garden. Hometown was fun, as was Calico garden. Autumn Love is also in my top 3.
Depends on the line... some are for placement to show the "center" of the side and others are for lining up pieces that you may be sewing together for the piece like the birds have a line for the beak so you know where the seam should be. Hopefully that makes sense.

There are sets A through R... and the snowman will be set S. I think you can still get them all.

Love this idea. Definitely using it. Thanks! New subscriber.
Awesome! Thank you!
This is a great idea. . I'm sure the only reason RB doesn't sell pink and blue large binder rings is because Lori hasn't thought of it yet!!
Lol... you're probably right!
Not organization question but a simple shapes question. What are the short straight lines on the sew simple shapes for?
Depends on the line... some are for placement to show the "center" of the side and others are for lining up pieces that you may be sewing together for the piece like the birds have a line for the beak so you know where the seam should be. Hopefully that makes sense.
