- Been working on this for weeks now, and now I'm happy to finally show off a work in progress of the Cleric Beast boss fight!
Featuring music by TheNobleDemon: / @thenobledemon
She created the incredible music using a real Roland SC-88 Pro for maximum authenticity! It really wraps up the fight in that retro feel we work so hard to capture.
There is still work to be done on the fight (It's pretty buggy and there's a few missing features like rally / regain) But it's all up hill from here!

Hi all! Just wanted to re-iterate that this was an unfinished WIP of the fight, and some things were missing due to said unfinished nature (insight gain, rally/regain ect)
A lot of these things have now been implemented, as you can see in more recent updates 🙂
Wouldve bought the game just for this fight even if this was unfinished
You are doing the work of the Great Ones. I don't see it getting easier as this project progresses, but you're crushing it so far.
The shrieks in particular are creepier here imo

Uhhhh, actually, no.. The downgrade in this one is a little bit excessive and too much. PS1 games generally looked better than this, albeit slightly perhaps

To be fair, from a coding perspective, it’s likely to take a little more work to make it so the enemy AI knows you’re dead and not to attack you

The giant R1 button hovering over its head for the Visceral is such a good touch.
Don'y think i've ever seen it done this way in a PS1 game though. I feel like this is something that only came in later gens

@@CesarGonzalez-bw2hz yeah, I think especially the first God of War and Resident Evil 4 popularized those button prompts (both are PS2 era games). We called them QTE's (quick time events) back then
@@jesterdayplays771 I do remember hearing that name a couple of times in the past, although I always associated the term more with scripted events in cutscenes and setpieces. I'd still say it fits something as simple as a visceral attack, especially in the context of a PS1 game struggling to cram all its content into a 1GB disc.

It legitimately might have been a smash hit. "Nightmare Creatures 1" was huge for the era and I genuinely believe that the only reasons why the series isn't still going are
1) Kalisto was a mess of a company that did stupid shit like making the "Fifth Element" game and
2) "Nightmare Creatures 2" was... not very good

The little “R1” indicator over the enemy when they’re primed for a visceral attack is such an inspired touch
Maybe partially out of necessity, I’m sure it’s hard to communicate a “prone” state with PS1-style animations alone, but taking liberties with the source material like that is what really elevates this from “Low-Fidelity Bloodborne” to “Bloodborne PS1”
i really appreciate that! and you are totally correct! my goal for bbpsx as a ps1 game is to do more than just downres bloodborne, and instead re-create the game to fit design sensibilities during that era
you mentioned the spinning r1 being out of necessity, and you really hit the nail on the head. emulating the limitations of a ps1 game (and more than just graphical fidelity! things like audio quality / memory limitations is just as important) will result in methods that feel natural to the era as the devs at the time had to come up with similar solutions to the same problems

My respect to the people involved doing this, i can only imagine how difficult is already making a snes game fit a nes cartridge, making a ps4 game fit the ps1 sistem is mind blowing.

Love the word "demake". Never heard it before.
Tbh, some modern games could use a demake. It would probably make it more fun.
I've only seen a couple examples: this and Lucius. I'd rate Lucius Demake over the original (though I haven't beaten either), because the original Lucius went WAY TF OVERBOARD on production. AAA production for steamjank gameplay...idk.
BB doesn't need a demake, but maybe that's why this one is so good.

I loved Nightmare Creatures, now i see why i love Bloodborne too.
Another Nightmare Creatures fan checking in. Graphics were rough even then but the atmosphere and combat were great.
Game was tough as shit and the movement felt very clunky. But i played it nontheless. It was not great but ok. Love Nadias Weapons and her moveset.
These guys were ahead of their time. I mean we got a remake just in 2015 and this still beats it by a mile. Wish I was there when this came out.

Loving the brighter reds and the darker darks, it really makes the game feel a lot more horror esque
Man this is amazing! All the feels of the game started shooting back to me haha. All the painful deaths, all the lost bloodechos, and all the howling beasts and monsters in such a creepy gothic style environment. It’s like a blast from the past and a spoonful of future gameplay in one. I love it!
This might actually come out before elden ring or even the bb port...

The Noble Demon makes some good stuff, first demake I’ve heard from her but I can’t recommend her channel enough.
As a sidenote:
The original Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen had similar sounding music. Bascially very gothic-sounding. (I wouldn't be surprised if the LoK games partially inspired Bloodborne.)

I mean you still had more than a few smooth moving games combat wise. Not everything needs the Resident Evil tank controls. I'd liken this closer to Soul Reaver personally. You can have smooth controls even for a PS1 game.

Gary Garypov Not a bad place to start at all. It helps you get comfortable with level design and then you can move onto Unreal with basics in mind.
It's actually amazing that the Cleric Beast's roar sounds just as terrifying in 8-bit as it does in HD
Ps1 was 32bit just FYI, and the sound chip was 16bit* just sayin

This is extremely well-made. It looks and controls just like the real Bloodborne but if it was in the late 90s - and it looks fun too.
The bit crushing means so much
The cool thing about this particular demake is that it's running in the ps1 emulator so it's bound by the limitations. Whereas alot of "demake" mockups are basically just guessing or misremembering what the limitations actually were.

this movement is very fast so the monster doesn’t look very heavy, but this demake is incredible!

I really like the Nightmare Creatures feel this has. I don't know if it was intentional or not considering that Nightmare Creatures for ps1 was considered the "Dark souls" of it's time. But no matter what this is truly amazing good work my friend 👍

The atmosphere and the collor pallette is what makes it scary. And the Sega Saturn like animations.

The lowfi sounds are what makes it for me. It's just so nostaligic in the strangesy way and i love it. Like playing games late at night when your parents are asleep
I can't tell you how much I love the R1 prompt for Visceral Attacks.
This boss soundtrack is my favorite and the demade version of it sounds so good.

Nah, gave me big Soul Reaver vibes. Possibly one of the best made PS1 games, surprisingly in depth boss fights, constantly shifting between two different dimensions, fast enemies. This is an entirely possible boss fight on a ps1

This is from an alternate universe where Bloodborne was released in the 90's and Bloodborne 2 is a thing.
Those old PS1 musical instruments. The violin and drums are so final fantasy 7. I love this way too much
You should check out The Noble Demon on RUclips. She's the one who did the music for this, and does TONS of music (8-bit and otherwise)

If a 3D modeler cut their teeth working on a ps1 game in 1998, they'd be 24 years into their career by the time their first work, at its time the hight of technical ability, would be resurgent in popular culture as a beautifully unrecognisable anachronism.
Dude this is such a classic! And From Software did an amazing job with the ps4 remake it's insane!
