7:06 There’s a fan theory that the reason Piccolo knows the symptoms of a heart attack is because he’s studied human anatomy after failing to hit any of Goku’s vital organs in the 23rd Tenkaichi-ichi Budokai. He didn’t want to make that mistake again so he studied where the heart was located and all the ways it could fail. It paid off when he was able to hit both Goku and Raditz with the Makankosappo
Does this also explain Piccolo's quip about Freeza missing all of HIS vital organs during the Namek fight? Assuming I am not conflating with another scene
@@retrokoh The joke there is more that Freeza is assuming he’s hitting a specific organ based on it’s location within his own anatomy without considering the possibility that Namekian anatomy is different.

Usually it's either they fight until they drop if they're even, or they're just knocked unconscious. Piccolo vs Goku, both old and young, Vegeta vs 18, and Gohan vs Cell are the only real ones that come to mind. His pride is not being shattered like with Goku, Freeza, 18, and Cell. That is when he starts losing his sh*t with the screaming, like a child throwing a temper tantrum.

MasakoX's Kamehameha this episode is criminally underrated. It balances the serious dramatic sound of dub goku with Masako's childlike voice take. The audio effects just elevate it even more.
I had always assumed you guys went with grape flavor because it's mentioned in the original Funi dub. Goku gets excited because of the antidote's purple coloring and hopes that it's grape flavored.
This is one of, if not my favorite, episode of DBZA. The raw basassery from Vegeta, the catharsis of him tearing 19 apart, the countdown; I memorized this episode word for word because I wanted to act it out so badly. Stuff like this made me want to be a voice actor.
This particular one is my favorite DBZA episode. Everyone loves when Vegeta gets to shine, but the entire exchange from the countdown to the "Well, well, well, looks like I'm a size 19," is just *chef's kiss*
4:40 A subroutine doesn't really have anything to do with complexity most of the time, it's more about reusability, you can have subroutines doing really small operations, or complex ones. The idea behind a subroutine is that you can just invoke it in different locations in the code without having to write the whole code it consists of every time, and any changes in the subroutine affect all locations where it was invoked. Often you have subroutines that invoke other subroutines which also invoke other subroutines and end up being quite complex.
After Piccolo missed literally all of Goku's vital organs "All of them?!" he studied up extensively on human (saiyan) physiology, enough to know what heart attack symptoms look like
also i REALLY appreciate "oh god, that made it worse!" because when i was watching this part in the actual show, my first thought was that giving him the senzu bean was like going "here, this cocaine should help your heart attack!"
I have to imagine that, prior to being replaced twice over, toriyama’s plan for these two was that they would have started out weak but kept harvesting energy from the other characters until they were more of a threat.
Unfortunately my brain always jumps to The Goons. In the The Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler, the reason Eccles gives for wearing a boot on his head is because it fits, and it's a size 19.
4:33 I always thought it made sense, like you said earlier, the Doctor is a bumbling scientist, and his creation went into combat with its primary target without 'dodge protocol' active already. Was perfect imo.
My favorite episode. Legitimately think it encapsulates the series' ability to preserve the good parts of the show while bringing their own hilarious takes on it. The parody love letter, rather than just a takedown.
And now, starting with 36, we’re finally onto my favorite string of episodes in the whole series. This episode through like 43-44 when Cell gets introduced is my favorite period of all DBZA in terms of quality especially this episode and Piccolo vs Cell. Can’t believe we’re finally at this part VICTORY FOR VEGETA!!! Edit: Episode 43 specifically is the one I’ve seen the most I think, I can quote almost the entire episode it’s PEAK DBZA for me, along w this episode and Super Android 13 and Worlds Strongest
I remember Grape Flavor being a dubism. When Trunks gave the medicine to Goku in the original dub, Goku made a comment along the lines of, "And it's purple too! Grape flavored!" EDIT: Also I can agree, Vegeta has two modes..."U Rappin Cool" and "U Rappin Bad"
9:35 - 10:00 I'm so glad you you said that, I literally checked the video timer, like "wait, is it over already?" because it felt SO much like the way you guys set-up episode breaks. Was pleasantly surprised to see 14 minutes of commentary still remaining :)
Kaiser and Lani, the line about the heart medicine being grape flavor actually ties back to the Funimation Dub. Goku looks at it and comments that because it's purple, it must be grape flavor.
I freely admit that "Did I just see his foot?" is not the best joke y'all ever did, but something about the delivery makes me lose my shit laughing every single time I hear it so thank you for that
I can't put into words how much I love how you guys wrote Vegeta. He had always been one of my favorite characters in the show, and you guys just killed it with him.
I just need to give tremendous props to you guys.... I thought Android 19 had a voice actor. Like genuinely. I have been here since season one first aired and I am finding out for the first time that Android 19 is just a text program..... WOW
I love this series so much. Love hearing how Kaiser and Lani just have a minute-long aside about the worst flavours of medicine they've had since childhood.
Learning that Chris Guerrero voiced both Gero and Cooler makes a lot of sense because I always thought they both sounded so dang cool, even when they were getting bodied
Fun fact, grape flavored is actually based on concord grapes, which is why it tastes nothing like table grapes, which is what people usual associate with grapes
Same thing with banana flavored taffy and other candy. Since they're older candies, their banana flavor is based off of the Gros Michel banana genus that almost went extinct in the late fifties and early sixties due to the Panama Disease. They're no longer commercially grown, and now in stores we eat the Cavendish variant.
I always imagined that grapes are toxic to saiyans the way chocolate is to dogs. Rossi says later that he’s sweating purple and that feels more like a “biology reacting to a stressor” thing
I gotta say, this episode is, by far, my favorite out of all of them. Lani mentioned how much fun it was to make, and it was so much fun to watch. Lani's acting, the layout, the music, every part of this was top notch. And he's right, this was basically peak Vegeta out of all DBZ.
honestly yea rewatching this i feel like 36 might be the best episode in the whole series imo, not counting the multiple part episodes in that tho cause episode 60 is a literal movie and as enjoyable as one too
One of my favorite episodes, you guys manage to put Vegeta in his place a lot but you balance it by increasing the level of badassery in episodes like this and make him a genuinely interesting character
Grape flavor was a thing on the original dub. Trunks gave Goku his medicine and he said something like, "Wow, it's even purple too, I bet it's grape flavored!"
Something that highlights this episode being so great is that it's the first time since around mid-Namek we see Vegeta actually living up to his boasting. He 100% earns it.
At 15:00 "But how? I thought you had to have a pure heart to be a super saiyan, like my dad." At least in DBZA, when was that EVER a stated stipulation? Nobody knows anything about super saiyans in general, other than Vegeta's mindless ramblings, so how would Gohan be able to make a hypothesis that a "pure heart" is needed? Been forever since I've seen the original, but I don't recall that ever being the case there too, just the whole "once in a thousand years" thing or whatever that Vegeta says. Side note, glad even they acknowledged the slight plot hole of Piccolo shitting on Yamcha for not saying anything about the androids' ability to steal energy when both Krillan and Gohan did too.
8:12 Goku actually canonically likes grape. When he first meets Krillin he misunderstands 武道(martial Arts) as 葡萄 (Grapes) both pronounced as Budou. Krillin asks him if he knows martial Arts and Goku responds "Yeah I love grapes!". It's untranslatable. I'm pretty sure he says he hopesthe medicine is grape flavored in the English dub too.
This is my favorite episode of the entire series. The jokes were on-point, the dialog is practically perfection, and there was just enough bad ass Super Saiyan action to make this a truly satisfying episode. I especially love the "doing squats all over your face" bit.
Kaiser I'm gonna second the GOATing of the countdown bit. It's amazing cause it's not only a funny way to represent how Vegeta dismantles 19 while servicing his massive ego, but also EXTREMELY satisfying from a combat perspective, each count felt "punchy" and the disparity in battle power was apparent.
Actually TFS in Legacy Of Goku 2, Goku gets the heart virus medicine from Trunks and HOPES it's grape flavored. So there is SOME association with Goku and Grape Flavor
"SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK IS NAMEK!?" will NEVER get old. Just seeing Gero completely lose his cool over ANOTHER goddamn Super Saiyan is priceless.
It’s my second favorite Dr gero line in TFS
It'll get old as soon as his son does...

He has planned his revenge for so long, now that he's finally here, he's just impatient. He'll be damned if he has to postpone his revenge any longer.
@@shinkamuiIf that were the case there would never be a trunks to go back in the first place. If trunks hadn’t shown up goku would’ve just instant transmissioned in.
@@shinkamuiGoku can teleport to people who’s ki signifier he is familiar with so there is no way he wouldn’t have gotten there on time to stop Freeza and Cold.
The "Look at that, I'm a size 19." line for me went from "I don't get it." to "I get it!" to "It gets funnier every time I see it!"
Is it because the android is android 19?
Vegeta becoming a Super Saiyan by throwing a tantrum is hilarious but also on point 😂
Never once did I connect the "boot up" dots that Lani laid out at 5:30
This episode is why I now know about the word "Auspicious."
DBZA is educational AND hilarious!
It’s educarious!
Several episodes later came the episode where I learned ‘‘Nettled.’’
@ Same
@ not quite something I learned, but I'll forever find hilarious how Goku says "That ruffles my jammies" in abridged kai.
"One day I hope we can get Taka in on these" As someone from the future it is so funny, that tone of voice and side eye. I am willing to bet at the rate these were recorded, Taka was either already on the flight there, or in the room and that side eye was at him nudging a "wait for your cue buddy".
Real ones know this video was originally deleted less than a minute after it came out
I saw that!
Lol didn't know that. Guess I was "lucky" to have clicked on it early enough to watch it.
Indeed
I thought I seen this episode before the commentary one
I remember that, it was uploaded it at the same time as the Taka cut so my theory is that it was uploaded by mistake when they wanted to upload the Taka cut
I love how nonchalant Lani is with his Big Bang attacks.
And then the Final Flash comes out...
I'd like to think that the Big Bang Attack is subdued because Vegeta is in complete control of the fight, so he is composed and arrogant ("I'm about to blow my load all over your insides").
His pride is not being shattered like with Goku, Freeza, 18, and Cell. That is when he starts losing his sh*t with the screaming, like a child throwing a temper tantrum.
I think this episode and the episode where Vegeta fights 18 are the peak of Abridged Vegeta. It's the heights of his ego being fully realized, along with him being utterly humbled, mixed with some vicious fights and terrific one-liners.
Those are great but his reaction to Piccolo and Kami fusing is probably my favorite Vegeta moment in all of abridged.
And then he gets it all again vs Cell. Our boy doesn't learn good, bless his heart.
@@KostyaComm The f***s a Kami?
Basically God.
But I'm still here!
@@kyuubinaruto17 LOL, the full thing is even funnier:
"You, Namekian! Too strong! Explain!"
"He fused with Kami."
"The fuck's a Kami?"

"I AM THE HYPE!"
@@KostyaComm"I AM THE HYPE" and "VEGETA YEEESSS" are my favorite Vegeta lines in Abridged
MasakoX's Kamehameha this episode is criminally underrated. It balances the serious dramatic sound of dub goku with Masako's childlike voice take. The audio effects just elevate it even more.
I always thought the grape flavor was a nod to when Goku says "And it's purple! I bet it's grape flavored!" after Trunks gave him the medicine
Yup. The Funimation dub made the comment and it must have been in TFS subconscious.
Was about to comment that
Same
Yup. The way it was written was definitely a reference to that line but I suppose they just forgot in the meantime.
I thought it was because Grape Ape
The delivery of "did i see his foot?!" to this day still kills me
9:41 Tien says, "And it sounds a lot like"
And I suddenly get an ad roll with One Winged Angel. It's so badass yet funny.

Honestly the "how about we tend to the elderly" line is one of my favorites
okay psychopath
I had always assumed you guys went with grape flavor because it's mentioned in the original Funi dub. Goku gets excited because of the antidote's purple coloring and hopes that it's grape flavored.
Same here. Did they forget that or is it really just an insane coincidence.
I still believe Is Krillin throwing the sensu bean is the best joke of this episode 😆
lani in this creator commentary episode has the exact same energy as vegeta, i love it
4:40 A subroutine doesn't really have anything to do with complexity most of the time, it's more about reusability, you can have subroutines doing really small operations, or complex ones. The idea behind a subroutine is that you can just invoke it in different locations in the code without having to write the whole code it consists of every time, and any changes in the subroutine affect all locations where it was invoked. Often you have subroutines that invoke other subroutines which also invoke other subroutines and end up being quite complex.
it's cute that lani always does the voices while watching his old lines
The senzu bean sound bite is still the notification tone on my phone to this day. One of my absolute favorite lines from the show among many
After Piccolo missed literally all of Goku's vital organs "All of them?!" he studied up extensively on human (saiyan) physiology, enough to know what heart attack symptoms look like
also i REALLY appreciate "oh god, that made it worse!" because when i was watching this part in the actual show, my first thought was that giving him the senzu bean was like going "here, this cocaine should help your heart attack!"
I have to imagine that, prior to being replaced twice over, toriyama’s plan for these two was that they would have started out weak but kept harvesting energy from the other characters until they were more of a threat.
Toriyama's editor was spot-on, these two just don't have that "it" factor to be effective saga-long villains.
Vegeta vs 19 is one of the best fight scenes in this season. It's just raw badassness from Vegeta, and the Abridged version of it is absolute gold.
To this day, "Looks like I'm a size 19" is my favorite line from the abridge series.
He must have a giant "monkey." 🤭
It's pretty badass
Unfortunately my brain always jumps to The Goons. In the The Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler, the reason Eccles gives for wearing a boot on his head is because it fits, and it's a size 19.
4:33 I always thought it made sense, like you said earlier, the Doctor is a bumbling scientist, and his creation went into combat with its primary target without 'dodge protocol' active already. Was perfect imo.
4:55 "Some people missed that"
You could say they didn't miss it, but the joke DODGED them
My favorite episode. Legitimately think it encapsulates the series' ability to preserve the good parts of the show while bringing their own hilarious takes on it. The parody love letter, rather than just a takedown.
Piccolo looking at Gohan silently after gero talks about how easy dodging is is hilarious
13:29
Gero's delivery of "SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE F*** IS NAMEK?" will never not be funny.
did I watch this on Wednesday? yes.
am i gonna watch it again? also yes.
But for me, it was a Tuesday.
@@BaronTManis that because of time zones or because they accidentally uploaded it on Tuesday too?
i might be messing up the day but i could have sworn it was Wednesday??

He’s just quoting the street fighter movie
"I wanna be a super saiyan" was the funniest thing to me in the whole series.I didn't think you guys could top guru but you did. Thank you Taka!!
I love how Lani pointed out 19's face when he was in the ground, haha.
That's always been one of my favourite faces in the series.
I remember Grape Flavor being a dubism. When Trunks gave the medicine to Goku in the original dub, Goku made a comment along the lines of, "And it's purple too! Grape flavored!"
EDIT: Also I can agree, Vegeta has two modes..."U Rappin Cool" and "U Rappin Bad"
That interaction between Piccolo and Gohan after the dodging subroutine is my favorite part of the episode. That and minemineminemine.
“I WANNA- I WANNA BE A SUPER SAIYAN! I WANNA! I WANNA! I WANNA! I WANNA! I WANNA! I WANNA!”
Top 3 favorite scenes.
When you stop and think about it, it's genuinely insane that DBZA is something that exists. It's such a wonderful example of cultural impact.
Always glad to watch these a second time
Agreed, this is my third second time (totaling 6, I really enjoy these)
I freely admit that "Did I just see his foot?" is not the best joke y'all ever did, but something about the delivery makes me lose my shit laughing every single time I hear it so thank you for that
18:00 Thank you, Lani, I can never unsee that now, and the sounds you make to it too just kills me 😂
I can't put into words how much I love how you guys wrote Vegeta. He had always been one of my favorite characters in the show, and you guys just killed it with him.
I'm unfortunately gonna throw a dagger right into your heart Kaiser, but you forgot to edit out the Ginyu emblem in the opener at 3:40
why must you ruin him like this
Fuckin oof. Oh no lmao
And at 5:35 when 19 oots up you can see he accidentally left the Red Red Ribbon Ribbon's R and R backwards.
I just need to give tremendous props to you guys.... I thought Android 19 had a voice actor. Like genuinely. I have been here since season one first aired and I am finding out for the first time that Android 19 is just a text program..... WOW
Every single line Vegeta has in this episode is unbelievably badass.
Except the temper tantrum. 🤭
"Looks like you just initiated your self destruct sequence."
Best Vegeta line to me
Would you say it's pure? Or unadulterated?
@@Blackbelt7497 Yes.
@@Blackbelt7497 I choose option three. It's pure unadulterated badass
I still remember watching this one for the first time. The opening had me dying of laughter...the delivery of those lines (Gero) was impeccable. 😂
Always love hearing the team holding each other in such high regard. Hope Taka can get in on one of these somehow as well as doing his own.
Roshi's "Gonna need a senzu for that one" is probably the best sensu been call back ❤
Fun fact, grape flavored is actually based on concord grapes, which is why it tastes nothing like table grapes, which is what people usual associate with grapes
Are they ballistically similar to table grapes?
Same thing with banana flavored taffy and other candy. Since they're older candies, their banana flavor is based off of the Gros Michel banana genus that almost went extinct in the late fifties and early sixties due to the Panama Disease. They're no longer commercially grown, and now in stores we eat the Cavendish variant.
@Alex Martin I'd assume so. They're of similar size, weight, and shape
@supersaiyanjedi ooooo, I didn't actually know that one. Thank you for the fruit fact :]
Stuff you should kno🌈✨️
18:05 the taco bell face.
8:25 grape flavor was actually canon in the show. When trunks have goky the medicine goku says he hopes it's grape flavored
I always imagined that grapes are toxic to saiyans the way chocolate is to dogs. Rossi says later that he’s sweating purple and that feels more like a “biology reacting to a stressor” thing
Oh uh, grapes are also toxic to dogs
I gotta say, this episode is, by far, my favorite out of all of them. Lani mentioned how much fun it was to make, and it was so much fun to watch. Lani's acting, the layout, the music, every part of this was top notch. And he's right, this was basically peak Vegeta out of all DBZ.
honestly yea rewatching this i feel like 36 might be the best episode in the whole series imo, not counting the multiple part episodes in that tho cause episode 60 is a literal movie and as enjoyable as one too
Krillin is having a goddamn blast with everything in this part
One of my favorite episodes, you guys manage to put Vegeta in his place a lot but you balance it by increasing the level of badassery in episodes like this and make him a genuinely interesting character
19:12 Ya know what? That sound effect used for when 19's hands snap off is STILL immensely satisfying to hear.
Love seeing Lani getting progressively more excited the closer the episode gets to Vegeta going Super Saiyan.
12:24
Gero: 19, forget about Son Goku. We can-
19: Deleting all data on Son Goku.
Gero: Wait, what? Stop-
19: Data deleted.
I love the way these have become a sort of community watch-through in addition to having commentary!
I'm pretty sure he says he hopesthe medicine is grape flavored in the English dub too.
actual grapes probably taste quite a bit different than artificial flavoring.
@GhoulChan Actually grape flavoring does taste like grapes, it's just a very particular (and not common) type of grape.
@@tinkerer3399 figured.
never really had grape flavored stuff now that i think about it.
Didn't the Funimation dub rewrite it with "marshmallows?"
@@noahmeyer9756 Yep!
I know a lot of people, mostly Vegeta fans, who pin this as one of their favorite episode in the whole abridge series. And good reason too.
This is my favorite episode of the entire series. The jokes were on-point, the dialog is practically perfection, and there was just enough bad ass Super Saiyan action to make this a truly satisfying episode. I especially love the "doing squats all over your face" bit.
Gotta be honest: Gero getting a subroutine wrong absolutely fits with how incompetent he was in Abridged.
So, while not intended, it still works.
