I found curled metal shavings in my 2016 volvo d13 on the oil drain plug. I took the valve cover off and inspected my overhead and there was nothing rubbing. I dropped my oil pan to inspect the bottoms and there was nothing rubbing. Could one of the gears be causing the metal shavings in the oil?
Do you heard any nose ? Definitely need to drop oil pan and check rod bearings, then gears. Look at shavings metal - copper or white metal? Many factors to look for
@@dmitryeg rod bearings look perfect. Working on taking the timing cover off now to inspeact the gears. Trucks oil pressure was perfect, no noise at all. There was more metal shavings when i dropped the pan, its metal shavings. Im suspecting its one of the gears
Mine just went out. Started as noise when turning and then went out. Affected fuel also. Shop said gears torn up and they said send to Volvo. It will be there tomorrow. Is this a major repair? Does the tranny have to be dropped?
About 8000$ parts and labour at local shop, dealer wanted for 15000$ Very common problem on D13 engines, you have to take down half of the engine and the transmission .
Yep, if it’s D 13 engine, you have to take everything down. Make sure they do complete job, which includes the the plate seal. Otherwise once you fix the bull gear and your plate seal starts leaking down the road , you ll have to pay another 8000$ to do the same job just to put a 5$ silicon . That happened to me .
When u turn the wheel it will start making a noise as if you don’t have enough steering fluid . Then take to mechanic , the will off the fuel pump or oil pump I don’t remember for sure and will see if the teeth on gear started grinding off
@@Chancharbek do you know which year models are mostly affected? Any ideas? I got 2015 Volvo with D13 engine. So far my power steering pump gone bad, didn't take it out yet to see if gears good or bad.

Where is that bearing go. Is it attached to the pump?
What kind of sound does it make because my dad’s truck make’s a sound that sounds like a screaming belt or something but it isn’t.
I no this is old but i just picked up a used d2015 d13 and i swear i hear a rattling noise coming from that area. Did you hear anything like that

It is major repair, yes transmission must be disconnected
In shop now. Twenty thousand dollars to repair. 12k just for labor.
Was it hard to remove that steering pump? Did you have to drain the engine oil out?
No, never drain the oil, but we changed it any way to due to metal shavings
