    Great video, thanks! Pro tip: people watching this might need some penetrating oil on that screw and nut. The best penetrating oil that won a shootout on RUclips is called Deep Creep by Sea Foam. Squirt some of that on the nut and screw and wait 5 minutes or so. Then take a large flat-head screwdriver and a wrench and loosen the nut on the screw, while you hold the screw in place with the screwdriver. Set the screw where you want it to adjust free play like in the video. Then hold the screw in place again with one hand and tighten the nut with the other hand, which locks the screw in place real nice. That penetrating oil also greatly helps to prevent further rust from building up.

    Hey brother keep the flat blade on the screw as you tighten the nut. When your removed the screw driver and tightened it, the screw moved about 1/2-1 more turn with the lock nut. Good video cheers

      So that screw isn't supposed to turn when you tighten the nut. Mine turn with the nut do you think the nut is seized around the screw?

    • @coalwagon
      @coalwagon 4 года назад +1

      Condo yea bro hit it with some wd-40 or pd blaster and break your lock nut free of the adjuster screw. So that way you can lock the nut down to the new adjustment on the screw 🤘

      @@blackpowergod210 it will turn with the nut if you dont hold it still with the flat screwdriver. Holding it still with the screwdriver while tightening the nut helps you keep your new adjustment in spec.

    • @dennissmith460
      @dennissmith460 4 года назад

      It's on the back side of the housing behind the sector shaft. There are other videos about TRW steering box adjustment out there. If you over tighten the adjustment screw you can damage your steering gear.

    Can do it video For Freightliner Columbia

  • @michaeldunagan8268
    @michaeldunagan8268 3 года назад +1

    Uhm...
    ... actually, the important place not to have free-play in is the sector-shaft which the pitman arm attaches to.
    To properly inspect the sector shaft, the drag week must be taken off the pitman arm. Then the pitman arm is to be moved forward and backward and then left and right. Any lash in any direction requires the adjustment you shut the video of.
    -------
    I am jealous that you have adjustment screw availability privilege. I have to drain the power steering fluid, disconnect hoses, disconnect the steering shaft, and then I had to take the power steering box off because the adjusting screw up on my tracker is on back of the box which is up against the frame.

    • @HondaAholic
      @HondaAholic Год назад +1

      Wherever the shaft the pitman arm goes onto, that shaft goes through the gearbox, and on the otherside is your adjuster. Freightliner is on the inside, there's a hole in the frame.

    You accomplished nothing... you're supposed to hold the center (flat head screw_ in place while loosening the outer nut, THEN loosen or tighten the inner flat head bolt, THEN hold the flathead in place while re-tightening the outer nut.
    What you did is a real good way to lock your steering or fuck up up your gear box.

    Totally unprofessional , there's a lot more to steering system freeplay than just cranking a screw without a thorough inspection. Get a professional mechanic to check & adjust your sector shaft . Too many google mechanics unwittingly contribute to sertious collisions
