They could put a stand north behind the goals, but then again that's the Shed which is the home of the passionate Glory supporters. Equivalent of Bay 13 at MCG. Corporate facilities needs to be developed a lot more though which is critical. Also there is a need to accommodate people in wheel chairs, because accessibility isn't the best.

"Western" is fine for this new franchise. What isn't fine is arrogant Victorians thinking "Western" is appropriate for franchises in national comps that are located 5-30km from the Melbourne CBD!
exactly. In Western Australia and if you're trying to get people around the states, then Western is a great name. I wonder how Western translates in Sydney compared to Perth.
I'm a Western Bulldogs supporter and I too think they should go back to calling themselves Footscray. They have decent support in the suburbs west of Footscray and further out to Ballarat, and those supporters are unlikely to jumpship to another team if the club changes its name back. I don't see anything arrogant about it though. Where did that come from? What about NRL's West Tigers? Does that make NSW "arrogant" aswell? 🤨
@@eddielong8663 Footscray changed their name after West Coast had already been in the league for a decade, and subsequently been more successful than Footscray's entire VFL/AFL history in that time. Not to mention propping up clubs like Footscray with large sums of money. Wests maintained their name in a merged team, and the Reds were gone by that point anyway.
@mikespearwood3914 What? So you're suggesting that a Vic club committed a certain degree of plagiarism of a WA club or something? Give me a break 😮💨. They did that because at the time they were struggling for support and were thinking of ways to expand it. The fast-growing outer western suburbs seemed like the obvious choice. Regardless of whether it was a successful move or not, it's just a name, sonny. Nothing more. The term 'West' doesn't belong to the Eagles. I for one had up until now never given it a moment's thought that some touchy Eagles fan would feel offended by it 😂. Too bad if it does. Seriously, find yourself a hobby.
@@eddielong8663 It's called using common sense. Footscray had the whole history of the VFL up till 1987 to identify themselves as "Western" if they felt so strongly about it. Could've kept it simple and had Macarthur Tigers (or Magpies), Illawarra Dragons (or even Saints), Perth Bears, Redcliffe Dolphins... Instead we got Wests Tigers, St. George Illawarra Dragons, Western Bears, Dolphins. The NRL is so laughably bad at naming professional sports franchises.
Depends largely on how the Bears perform on the field. If the Bears show an overall decent performance over multiple seasons, the Force might be in trouble. Look how the poor Rebels turned out. With the Storm repeatedly doing so well, even the expats from strong Union countries lost interest in the Rebels. Plus, Perth isn't oversaturated with AFL clubs like Melbourne. Though there has been some discussion about bringing in a 3rd club.
@@jordanklingsporn763 That works well. But I think Western Bears works well for North Sydney fans because it ensures that Bears will be referred to most of the time and not the location (Perth). Its like West Coast EAgles. Most people just call them the Eagles.
I truly think 20 teams is the golden number for a national competition (take the UK Premier League for example), add any more and it starts to become oversaturated. I really want the port moresby team added. Love png from
If you're going to add a team in Perth then you have to add one up in Darwin too. Launceston should be given a crack in the Q-Cup and the Storm should be broken into two teams, the Melbourne Rebels (take over the Union francise) and the Victorian Storm, that way you've got all the markets covered. If you think we're going to run out of talent just go looking in the highlands of PNG, as the famous Charles Bronson once said "there's gold in them hills!". Well PVL I think you've got this one right but don't rest on your laurels, keep the foot on the gas and keep growing this competition until we've got a nice square 48 teams who can play one giant knockout tournament per year. Do away with regular season games and just keep the finals, it's way more exciting. Also why do we have to wait around for 80 mins, let the boys jump straight to golden point and see what happens. Anyway let's go Western Bears looking forward to cheering you guys on in 2027 and hopefully we can also ban those gambling ads before my step-son forces me to take another mortgage out on the house.
Staggering the entrant of new clubs i think is trying to learn from the mistakes of the past. 4 at once back in 1995 in hindsight was too much too soon.
Fantastic News! NRL keeps getting better and better. Super Rugby not so much lol
Perth had a side, they joined up with Adelaide on their way to Melbourne
It’s a bad idea, West Aussies are very parochial, they want their own team with its own identity. I’d have stuck with the Reds.
Team 19 and 20 should be Adelaide, and Christchurch or Ipswich
How about Broome... The Broome brown snakes
Why not bring back the Newtown Blue Bags?
@@garrywallah4966 Not Broome, way too small. Christchurch or Auckland is a far better choice.
@@Mick_4591Adelaide Jets has a good ring to it 👌
didnt this get canned? im confused
Now hopefully Newtown Jets come back one day into the comp or relocate to Adelaide
I wonder what Gibbo would say.
6:45 The word "parochial" doesn't mean what you think it means fella.
@@mikespearwood3914 I picked up on that too 😅
Perth is back!
What about Tasmania in the nrl
Is there any Rugby League in Tasmania??
Not happening for at least another 50 years. It would be a huge financial loss and struggle to stay afloat. Need to focus on NZ South Island or Adelaide first.
@@limcako41Very little compared to Aussie Rules.
@@WarwickGank I think it's just Aussie Rules and cricket.Their basketball side is always struggling. Also the cold weather is a problem ❄
@limcako41 there is a small domestic competition down there but I think it's only about 4 teams
Wonder if they will have a red kangaroo on their sleeve like wests do or will the reds be brushed like the poor steelers
I think its unlikely that the Western stand will be rebuilt anytime soon. Its unnecessary really to replace the stand for the time being.
Sadly the best sideline stand is the new stand on the eastern side, and it's the newest one, unless you can squeeze a press box up the top it's not really an option
@@albertmiller2electricbooga897 Good for soccer, except you bake in the sun there in the middle of summer. I think they'll work on corporate facilities first and accessibility. Then over time consider replacing stands. There has been work undertaken in recent times for the Women's world cup. Remember it wasn't used for virtually 10 months and messing up the Perth Glory season with them having to play at a suburban ground with low crowds. So quite a bit of work has occurred in the last 3 years.
I bet the NRL does not demand a Roofed Stadium like the AFL has in Tasmania.
Obviously, Perths climate is nothing like Tasmania
I don’t like the idea of the name of Western Bears when there’s already Western Force.
Agreed! Perth Bears seems the most fitting and I don’t think there’s many existing Western Reds fans that would care that deeply about the name anyways.
What about Western Bulldogs & Western United??
@@mikespearwood3914 different sports
@@strikerbowls791 And Western Force are??
Western Force will probably follow the way of the Rebels soon.
Should of called them the Perth Pirates
The West Coast Eagles own that trademark as it was under consideration back in the day if West Coast had gone with Perth (there was / is a Perth FC)
I still think they should be going all in on the relocation. Not playing home games in Sydney
One is ok. Practice matches is important in Sydney. But otherwise minimise any talk on N Sydney expecially in the perth market.
The leagues club and all the members are in Sydney
Would be better if it had nothing at all to do with the bears
@@chrisherrmann3014 I don't think it will hurt the code in Perth, unless the commentators in Sydney keep talking about north sydney. no one will care in perth, so if the rugby league commentators go over the top then its an issue long term.
@BDub2024 May change long term as you said but at the moment all the media talks about is "North Sydney Oval" "Red and Black" "Old Bears logo". Barely ever mention the Perth side of things
My hatred for Manly will still continue even though the NRL is binging back my mighty Bears! So the middle finger 🖕still goes to Ken Arthurson and the Manly Club for ditching the Franchise and cutting the Bears lose.
Now bring back Western Suburbs Magpies!!!
The one Warriors. I hate it but I have to support them 😂
It wouldn’t surprise me if they play the Warriors at Central Coast or North Sydney. It saves both teams a long travel.
Hey Pivot! How do you think a Conference system will work once we get to 20 teams?
Warriors have a lot of support in WA with all the Kiwis. Perth would hate to miss it
@@jordanklingsporn763 there are kiwis everywhere
The bears aren’t back
People wanted the north Sydney bears
People wanted a fresh start for Perth
How is this what anybody wanted
There is no reason to not have both
Total sell out for one game a year they should have got two one at Gosford and norths
PNG is the only country in the world that Rugby League is the dominant football code. With a population of 13 million and an exisiting PNG National Rugby League competition why not.
Bring back the western magpies
There is not enough talent for the teams they have now......... There are guys starting who would not have even been given a jersey in the 90's........
Magpie western magpies
Does the NRL have enough money to subsidise these loss makers year after year?
@mikespearwood3914
What? So you're suggesting that a Vic club committed a certain degree of plagiarism of a WA club or something? Give me a break 😮💨. They did that because at the time they were struggling for support and were thinking of ways to expand it. The fast-growing outer western suburbs seemed like the obvious choice. Regardless of whether it was a successful move or not, it's just a name, sonny. Nothing more. The term 'West' doesn't belong to the Eagles. I for one had up until now never given it a moment's thought that some touchy Eagles fan would feel offended by it 😂. Too bad if it does. Had the Bulldogs changed their identity to be an almost carbon copy of the Eagles (colours, mascot, song), then we can start talking. Otherwise you're just having a sook about nothing. Seriously, find yourself a hobby.
@@eddielong8663 It's called using common sense. Footscray had the whole history of the VFL up till 1987 to identify themselves as "Western" if they felt so strongly about it.
A Melbourne club changing their name to "Western" when a Western Australian/ Perth based club called "West Coast" had already been in the league for more than a decade was incredibly arrogant, not to mention daft. Imagine trying to justify it to a foreigner!
N.Z really needed another Team in the NRL......The Warriors are not every Kiwis Team. 😂
Bad idea relocating a team elsewhere. Should have kept it in the north of Sydney under the name Northern Bears
There back what you talking about it's a new club it's not north sydney
Why not call them the western Reds again
Can someone explain to me how Perth was lumbered with the Bears name?
New games. Is. Going. Are. Be. Comes. North SYDNEY. BEARS. Some. Marking. Ringleader western. Times
Yeahhhh, but its not actuality a Directional name. Its Western for Western Australia the state. Its a team representing the whole State.. .
North Sydney is a long way away from Perth.
Wont the sydney bears fans hate this team?
central coast bears
Is this the end of the Western Force?
Too many saffas, kiwis, poms, Irish etc. in Perth for the Force to fold.
Different code, the Western Force are Super Rugby.
Different code
@@eddielong8663 Fair points, either way it surely isn't a good thing for union.
Perth or West Coast would've made a lot more sense for a name. Commentators will only ever call the team the Bears, never the WA location
I used to like the Westate Wildcats. But they became Perth Wildcats in basketball.
Calling them West Coast would be commercial suicide. Perth s owned by West Coast Eagles.
@@Samson-h6l We also have the West Coast Fever
@@jordanklingsporn763 That works well. But I think Western Bears works well for North Sydney fans because it ensures that Bears will be referred to most of the time and not the location (Perth). Its like West Coast EAgles. Most people just call them the Eagles.
Perth won’t have a NRL team
NRL would make more money if they had a new team in Melbourne Sydney or Somewhere in Qld
so not a new Perth team? just don’t blow it by filling it with journey men or trying to sneakily filling it with kiwis making it a nz team.
Why is it called the western bears?
Western Australia 🇦🇺
Because they're going to be located in New Zealand. Why do you think godwin??!!!
What coast is Perth on?
It's called western bears to pay tribute to both the western reds and the NS bears.
Because the NRL is trying to keep some Sydneysiders happy while selling out the WA public
Waste of time again.
AFL is too strong and Perth is too far away .
Norths should be at home , in North Sydney.
Perth too far away from what? Its only 5 hours by plane.
Adelaide rams
South Island Kia
East Brisbane hawks
Central qld bulls
I truly think 20 teams is the golden number for a national competition (take the UK Premier League for example), add any more and it starts to become oversaturated. Imo if the NRL were to add another QLD team, they would need to kick an existing Sydney team out of the comp, such as West Tigers (which would also get rid of the confusion between Western Bears and West Tigers) or relocate them.
grew up a norths fan northern eagles was a joke screw manly they sold us out great idea bring back a team to a place that got kicked out in the first place whats next Adelaide stick to your aerial ping pong
There ain't no bears in Aus.
