I used to live in Danville and later in Blackhawk quite a long time ago and loved ❤ Mt. Diablo. Must say I never hiked it (too lazy) but we drove up lots of times. I loved the spring when all the wildflowers, especially the poppies were blooming. We also loved to drive up with a picnic and enjoyed the peace and quiet up there. When we lived in Blackhawk at the bottom of Mt. Diablo deer would come down right outside our kitchen window. I really miss California...now I live in South West Florida where everything is flat and we have hurricanes instead of earthquakes (and lately snow!) Thanks for sharing this beautiful video which I will be a beautiful memory.
Wow, absolutely fantastic vistas...lots of adventuring in that area for sure...I think I would need much more time just for sitting and staring out at the view...thanks for the great hike!
The Juniper remind me of the Badlands. If you find any trees there, they will be Juniper. I love these unfamiliar (to me) landscapes!! Nice work Doug! Badass hike. That campground was plush up top.
Great looking hike Doug! I love the memories you have of the trail with your kids. The views at the top were amazing and so worth the hike on the way up. Thanks for sharing another great video!
50 years ago when we hiked up the East side of the mountain, we did not have the trails and roads. We had to find the deer trails. We still managed to climb the Southern slope in 4 hours.
Does turkey spray come in a turkey baster? Lol. Beautiful hike. It’s always so much fun to return to a trail that you have memories of and get to relive them.
I am so glad you made it through the feather velociraptors! As a fellow parent, I love how you were able to experience this trail with your kiddos, then again on your own. The way you ran down that 7ft hill... just like your kids did! Such a fun connection through time (maybe giving the trail name new meaning?!) You mentioned you had to teach a class, what subject/level do you teach?
Well I always keep a velociraptor bell on my pack, so . . . LOL! Yeah I was having huge nostalgia that first part of the hike, may have to take them back there. I teach philosophy of religion and Christian theology at a church in central CA right now but I taught at the graduate level for several years before fleeing academia. :)
@@BackcountryPilgrim Mad respect for teachers here. I have my Master's and wouldn't not have gotten to where I am without all the awesome advisors and professors I had along the way! I like that you still teach even when you don't "teach" :-)
Toward end of video we get a glimpse of a biker, looking like he's starting back down. So I guess he biked up the 3600 feet of elevation. Now that's a workout!
I wouldn't try it with a stroller. It's very hilly and steep although there are sections where it would be ok. When I brought my kids we did not go very far. :)
12 or 13 miles. I basically made an out and back out of this: Mitchell Creek to Diablo Summit on AllTrails www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/mitchell-creek-to-diablo-summit?p=-1&sh=bgk1vy

I lived on the east coast for a while and even with the Blue Ridge and the Smokies I almost couldn't take it haha! Glad to bring back some memories!
@@BackcountryPilgrim - Try Florida for a while...it’s SO FLAT!
Hee hee. :)
Come back in late winter or early spring everything is green and it is soooo much nicer
Sounds like a plan! :)

Yeah I need to go back when I have a the whole day! Thanks for watching!

Yeah interesting area for sure! I could totally see me car camping up there once the plague ends. ;) Thanks for watching!
Wonderfully narrated and peaceful video. Thanks for your effort. God Bless
Thank you very much!

NO Turkey Spray" hahaha love it. Great video!
Haha thanks for catching that!

A baster for civilians yes, but I believe there's police and special forces versions too lol!
Brushy Peak is getting a little too crowded these days. I'm going to want to start visiting Mt. Diablo. Thanks for the video.
That’s my backyard 😃👏
Lucky! (Napoleon Dynamite voice) :) Looks like you got a cool channel, new sub!

Interesting and great walk about
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah that would be a lot more fun going down than up!
What if you would have followed the road and not taken the trail off, would you still make it to the end destination? I would rather hike on the road.
The road goes to the top but it does not go the direction I took to get there.
For this specific walk you did. Was it easy even if you bring a stroller with you? You mentioned it but not sure how it was.

@@BackcountryPilgrim thank you!
At which trail did you start? Looks like a great hike!
Just at the ranger station on the west side.
👌👌… how early we can start hiking for this??
I'd check park hours, but I don't remember there being a strict schedule. Earlier is usually better. :)
How long was the round trip?
