    thank you for this comparison! for some reason watercolor has always been much easier for me, even though it is very unforgiving. i have been trying to get more comfortable with gouache but it is really hard since it’s a completely different way of thinking! i always end up using too much water 😅 your videos encourage me to keep trying!

    Thank you SO MUCH for doing this video!! I started with watercolor but I really like the look of gouache. All your videos on this platform and Skillshare and your Etchr class I purchased have helped. I’m still on a mission to work on gouache color mixing and “seeing” the colors in my reference to apply the multiple shades/variations in a piece like you do. Thanks again! 😊

    I first started painting years ago with acrylic as a total beginner and liked the opacity, but struggled with having paint dry and not being able to move it around. Last year I started taking watercolor classes, but it was so hard to transition to a transparent, water-based medium and having to think around highlights and paint backwards.
    Now I’m going to give gouache a try as it seems to be the best of both worlds

    I've painting with watercolour for 30 years so I obviously love it. Gouache is new to me and I struggle. However, it's early days and I do like the fact that mistakes are more easily fixed. I don't really like using the two mediums in one painting, at least not yet; the flat, opaque gouache next to the translucent glow of watercolour is jarring and I feel like I'm cheating. Also, gouache is so much more difficult to clean up and it stains palettes, even high quality ones. So... so far watercolour, hands down, but in a year I may change my mind.

    Thank you. Gauoche is my preference. It was great to see your thought process, your application, and your lovely outcome. One thing though, I don’t think in the main when painting with Gouache you can use any paper. I find with most of my work I benefit from watercolour paper. And 300 grams is my preference it allows me to decide to work a little wetter than I may have initially thought.

    • @CecileYadro
      @CecileYadro  Год назад

      The paper depends on your style. If you use a lot of water you'll need 300 gsm, but if you're painting more dry, any paper will do the job!

    Thanks Cecile! The different ways the medium behaves is easy to see when the subject matter is the same for both. I have been painting with watercolours for just over 2 years and it was a steep learning curve! But I am in love with the way watercolour blends and has a life of its own. I recently started using gouache and I must admit, I still paint very carefully because of the habits I've picked up from watercolour... perhaps going forward I can utilise the strengths of gouache to be a little bolder and more expressive, as the medium is much more forgiving as you say :)

    I am a long time watercolorist and have recently taken up gouache. I don't know why it has taken me so long to move to gouache. Probably because most of my watercolor teachers turned up their noses at gouache so I thought it was not something to use in my paintings. They were wrong, you are right. Gouache is magic.
