Michele, your videos are so informative and practical. Your demonstrations, tips and sense of humour all combine to make them very watchable. Sometimes at work I just listen to them like a podcast. It's obvious you put a great deal of effort into your presentations and take pride in your work. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
For anyone interested in trying out a stay wet palette for acrylics, I highly recommend looking up the DIY options. The reason being that you can figure out if you like it for very cheap and not too much effort. Then you could stick with that or eventually treat yourself to a really good one. Also, thanks for another great video, Michelle!
I paint in adult coloring books and use the acrylic on top of watercolor method most of the time. I've also fallen in love with gouache and use it like both acrylic and watercolor.
That tutorial was just perfect for me Michelle. I'm a raw beginner and initially bought everything for acrylic painting. I will now extend my paints to include water colour. I just wish I had started with water colour first. Anyway thanks for your lesson brilliant.
Wow that’s a gorgeous painting with the papyrus! Love the fish especially! I have tried both the watercolor & acrylics separately but not together for mixed media because I did not think 🤔 they would work well. I am hoping to get some gouache soon (I’m leaning towards W&N) to add to my art supplies and one of those stay wet palettes. Thanks so much for going into such great details about the three mediums. Hope you’re enjoying a wonderful day today.
I am relatively new to painting and although I will tend to use watercolour and watercolour pencils I have Gouache paint and also Acrylic paint and didn't understand the differences and how and when to use each medium and I found your explanations very informative. Thank you.
*1:18** you can also find watercolor pigments in the form of sticks...typically one stick is equal to three full pans of paint so very useful if limited on space or assembling a specialized or unique pallet*
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber *you're very welcome Michele...love experimenting with different pigments and techniques...especially with inks or anything that can give a distressed/aged look to paper such as documents or maps...for me tatty has more character or at least looks more interesting and tells a better story... slowly assembling a nice watercolor collection based on recommendations from channels like yours or other talented artists also constantly looking for other artisan handmade supplies such as those found on Esty (fox and quills) and the Birmingham pen company out of Philadelphia...beautiful shades to be sure*
Great video ... like you I only mix up or put out enough paint for a short time and then put out fresh. If I have to mix up a large amount to be used throughout a project I store it in small airbrush jars. For mixing I use a glass cutting board from a discount store .. at the end of the day I just wet it and scrape it clean.
I found a tube of white watercolor a few days ago, it's actually transparent, dries clear and looks like crystal. What is that? It was make in China, purchased at a discount store. I needed a lot of white for a winter scene, actually a lake with snow and ice, not sure how to use it. Interesting there is no brand on the tube? Love your videos, I thought of trying gouache for some subjects, when I don't want transparency.
My question is, how you mix gouache and acrylic on your pallet at the same time to make its own color? Is there anything I need to know when doing the combination together before applying it to the paper?
Gouache and acrylic should not be directly mixed on the palette or you will compromise the stability of the acrylic paint. You can paint acrylics over a light wash of gouache or watercolor once they have dried. Hope that helps!
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I so asked that question wrong...I meant to say mixing watercolor and gouache on the palette, and storing them together on the same porcelain palette...sorry! Thank you for your response to the other "wrong" question that I asked. ;-)
@@pattim6807 oh I see, that's funny 😅. I find that gouache is best left in tubes, it doesn't re-wet well and tends to dry, crack and fall out of a permanent palette. Also, although they can be used together, it's a good idea to keep transparent watercolour separate so they don't get muddied by opaque pigment unless and until you decide to put them together 🙏
Omg thank you kindly for this very informative video! That’s what I was looking for lol, I’ll be watching more of your videos 👍♥️🦋 Merci, du Nouveau Brunswick, Canada 🍁
Thank you! Great video - VERY informative. And so glad you're doing a 'how to darken watercolor' video. Also looking forward to how to paint watercolor on wood. My brother gave me a piece of boardwalk and has asked me to paint an ocean scene on it. I was thinking about trying Daniel Smith's watercolor ground - but not sure. Hmmm - maybe I should just break out my acrylics, but I've got very little experience using acrylic paint. Hmmm - you've given me food for thought, here. Great to get a peek of your papyrus painting, too. Looking fabulous!
Hi .... yesterday I tried sticking watercolour paper with matte medium onto a balsawood panel...and dried it ..it didn't buckle at all despite doing wet on wet
I love all three painting mediums. Yeah, poster paint, I completely forgot that gouache was also called that. I have given my valuables new coats of paint with acrylic since it goes on almost anything. Acrylic paint can be made by mixing poster paint with PVA glue.
LOL ... Michele, I love the way you pronounced Saran Wrap, like the poison nerve gas Sarin. I know how much you love the environment. Just two things from over here on the other side of The Pond ... it's pronounced suh RAN. Also, I can't say definitively, but I have the general impression that Americans used to use "Saran" as a generic name more, but that now "plastic wrap" is more common.
Hi ...I unsubscribe... subscribe... frequently watercolour channels on RUclips...because I get frustrated with watercolour and then get attracted by it...so I have continuous love- hate relationship with watercolour...maybe others also identify with this feeling....but it never happens this yo yo with oils and Gouache. Please comment... anyone

This is a great video with lots of info Michele. Thx as always. 🥰
Your papyrus is looking fabulous! I can't wait to see it totally finished. Love the beautiful Cyclid fish too! ❤️❤️ Excellent video as usual!
Thank you 🙏☺️
Would be so helpful if you would talk about pricing for all 3(also include oil paint). And I mean the Pro level paint for all 4 mediums.
Such a helpful video, thank you!! 😊 I started learning acrylics before watercolour and it’s useful to see how the two mediums differ.

Watercolor is a complex thing...
I do the same thing!! I'm trying gouache lately, and I think I like it more because I can fix and control everything
