The tradition of _dagashiya_ (Japanese-style candy stores) includes such candy toys, plastic models, puzzles, marbles, and those little gliders you assemble by attaching the weight to the nose and tossing them into the air. Blind-box toys almost always come with some sort of gum or ramune candy. I only managed to get the Base Star on Yahoo Auctions Japan just a few years ago and it's the only one I have. Here in Japan, BSG is extremely niche and finding anyone who knows about it is rare unless you attend some model show or SF convention. I grew up watching Buck Rogers and BSG back-to-back via syndication every Sunday starting at 5pm in the '80s, but there is no such culture for that here. So, it's amazing that any company like Konami made such BSG candy toys.
Thanks for the info! They are very popular in America and I can remember my local shop selling hundreds of them back in the day! Maybe that was the plan all along! 😉
I wouldn't say curse of Galactica, more like the curse of bureaucracy. If you don't file the right paperwork, you can't scratch your own nose. Yes, I'm joking, at least I hope I am.
Thx for the upload. I was happy most of the time I watched it. But at the very end of your video, I was happier than ever. The brief glimpse of talented, beautiful actress Jane Seymour is always a very welcomed sight
I have a friend who was making officially licensed Viper Pilot Helmets. 'Screen accurate with working lights...The entire project fell through due to local bureaucracy that nothing to do with Universal or my friend. Yeah, the curse is real.
My local Forbidden planet sold these way back without candy, never knew if it was one of those secret options they do in these kind of things but someone on E-Bay used to sell the Battlestar's as named after the 12 colonies not just Galactica but I think that Pegasus or Atlantia was one you could get packaged as well though I only ever seemed to get Galactica from the store.
Has anyone bothered to eat the candy that came with these models? I have been buying Gashapon models since the 90s and never consumed the sweet/candy that was included. But hey that's the EU for you.....
I was very fortunate to get the Galactica, the Pegasus, and a Cylon basestar from ebay a couple decades ago. Such a shame that Galactica products get the shaft. These are amazingly detailed for such small miniatures.
Strange. Because if I get this right in some Asian cultures a piece of candy 🍬 is handed out a funerals. During a certain point in the service the attendies eat it. Its meant as a reminder of the sweetness of life. But they ended up cursing themselves with their own practice. heh.
They are still around, as far as I know. As for the subject of the contents -- that is always changing. My country was originally Canada, but I've been in Japan many years. I will look around to try to find some mystery boxes. I'm certain they are around.
Lol! It’s funny as I never knew that they were rare! I can remember my comic book shop having hundreds (literally!) in stock for less then $20 a piece! I had to buy the chase ships on EBay but the others no problem.

I don’t blame the EU for what happened. Food stuff is pretty serious business because of what may be in it. If the boxes were labeled properly I don’t think anyone would have cared. Thanks for watching!
Heck yeah, it's real! It all began with Universal halting production on the continuation TV series from the original and replacing it with the reboot series and anything original Galactica has been cursed ever since!
I was looking for these.... on a side note , how big would a cylon raider be if it was the same scale as a viper? cylons are the size of a tall human and a raider uses three pilots... just think it would be cool to see the actual size difference represented...
There is some controversy over the whole Raider vs Viper scale. No one (including Universal) really has the answer! I think that Monogram got it right back in 1978 but some say that the Raider should be much bigger!
I had the Cylon Raider that shot red plastic “missles” when I was a kid and some of the figures. Such cool toys.
Congratulations on one million. That's terrific. Enjoy your vids a great deal. Merry Christmas as well.
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
Merry Christmas!🎄

Same to you! 🎄🎄🎄🎄
The whole system choked on a piece of candy. What a terrible shame that the western world lost out on Galactica
I still don’t get why candy was even included in the first place! I know it’s a thing in that part of the world but it still makes no sense to me!!

😂I’m with you!!
Have all three of the battlestars, galactica, Pegasus, and atlantia. These are probably the best repetitions of the actual models used onscreen.
I wish that they would be rereleased! So many collectors missed out on them!
Fleeing the B G. Curse, the last Battlestar, Galactica leads a rag-tag toy line on a lonely quest...a nerdy haven, known as Marketplace.

I hope that you did not eat the candy! You would be in violation!! 😂
a government that destroys toys just because a piece of candy is inside is a stupid government.
It’s the danger that the “food” poses. If the boxes were properly labeled with ingredients I don’t think it would have been a problem.
Has anyone bothered to eat the candy that came with these models? I have been buying Gashapon models since the 90s and never consumed the sweet/candy that was included.

Im working on an episode that will detail every company that has gone down as soon as they obtain the BSG license. It’s really freaky! 😳
@battlestarcollectica7106 I don't doubt it. It seems Classic Galactica has been cursed in perpetuity. Looking forward to your video.
Never knew about these! Man they look cool!
They are a great set to own and display. Highly recommended!!

I did not know that!! If the toys had been labeled properly we would had more BSG! 😥
Good video. I got a few of these, but didn't realize the snags they had with shipping. I live in Japan, so not a problem.
Wow! Thanks for watching! Are Mystery Boxes still a thing in your country? I don’t see them much here anymore?

Those ships look so cool. To think they could be acquired so easily, as a toy
They are really nice! I really wish we could have gotten that second series. I wanted a Landram!!
Those poor innocent ships, what a travesty! I would have have them a home. ☺
You and me both!! 😂
Dude that was a good video, we never got them here in the Boston area.
Thanks!!
Sorry about that, world. Welcome to Europe.
😂🤣😂🤣 At least your country cares!!
Man what a bunch of B.S. all they had to do was remove the candy and it would've been fine. I wonder if these can be found on ebay?
I know! It’s all about the paperwork!! 😂🤣😂🤣
It took me a decade to get my hands on any models of the Galactica spaceships, that certainly felt like a curse at the time..

If you love the toys please watch some of my past episodes. I cover almost everything! Thanks for watching!
at ROSS i found a tiny vhs case (Mimicking the ones that Disney Movies came in) with a Cylon figurine inside. $4.99. Did you find these, too?
I’ve not seen one in person but I think it’s a whole line of figures based on classic properties! Thanks for letting me know!!
@ I have one but I’m so busy with my dad it’s hard to make videos.
@ I just posted the pic on my channel for you
Eh ... after this story Im a believer ... the curse is real. Now lets see the next fantastic balls-up! Thanks for the video.
It really does seem like something is out to get this show! So many horror stories when it comes to the merch!
I have all 4 models from the 1970's. They are in a box in my storage. The pedestals were too weak.
I'm gutted about this. I feel guilty simply because I'm based in Europe.... FRAK ME !!! Excellent channel ❤🎉❤

I peeked at the end of the book. Count Iblis did it.
😂🤣😂🤣
What a ridiculous mess😂❤
Yup! Unbelievable!!
Why did Jane Seymour (Serina) appear for that very brief moment at the very end of this video?
It was kind of funny. 🙂
I have no idea why!😉

What a shame! I LOVE the Colonial Shuttle, would have loved to have included one of those in my collection. 😢
I really wanted the Landram! Why does this stuff always happen to BSG! Damn that curse!😂
Did that tabletop ship game ever take shape and come to market?
If you're talking about the the fighter game based on the x-wing system then yes it did. It's like 40 bucks on amazon.
I’m not familiar with one for TOS but I do know one was issued for the ReImagined series.
We are just not meant to have Battlestar Galactica.
I know! It really makes mad! 😡

I have the Konami Cylon. I was thinking about getting the viper.
It’s well worth it! Like a mini version of the Monogram Viper from 1978!

They were available everywhere and very inexpensive. Thanks for watching!
Too bad. The ship replicas look pretty accurate to the show.
They are really cool and I highly recommend them. They display great because of their size!
I blame George lucopolis. Bummer deal, those looked highly detailed and would work on my desk.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😕😕😕
