You know that what George was playing came directly from the Cosmos because of he way he turns his eyes to look totally upward. He was on fire on this song as was Don. The really broke the mold when these two geniuses were created. Most inspired playing I've heard in 55 years of listening to jazz.
If Avantguarde Jazz was a religion, George Adams and Don Pullen would be two of the more prominent high priests. And I'd be going to the temple daily (if not live in it). :) Awesome and thanks for sharing.
I finally got around to listening to George Adams, Don Pullen Quartet "City Gates" which my brother recommended a while ago mind blown. This collection of virtuosos are every bit as great as the immortals, like Miles, John, Dizzy, Charlie P, Charles M, Coltrane, McCoy, Monk Oscar and the long list of immortals. I think George Adams actually accomplished what John Coltrane was attempting in Ascension, because as far out the band went, they never loose the groove or become annoying and incoherent.
Thank you Eric for those kind words you're speaking. I'm the nephew of the Greatest pianist to me that ever played. I grew up listening to his music. (Along with my sister and brothers)I love jazz to this day because of of my Uncle Don. He also filmed some of his trips abroad like Japan and most of Europe. Again thank you .
Cameron Brown subbed teaching my class a few years ago all i was talking about was this recording and when we all played he said i had some George Adams in me i was like WOAH!! omg lol such a great day!
A wonderful band. George and Don are just masterful players! Simply powerful and uplifting music.

To be blessed and to receive the message just keep listening, don't stop : )
The piano playing here is unbelievable. The late Don Pullen was a one-of-kind brilliant musician. As were the rest of this band.
drbekken aaa
You can say that a thousand times again. The best ever IMHO. They send me into the cosmos every time.
Danny's drumming is amazing....man what a band!
they are one of the best combos ever
Thank you for this indescribably wonderful music that still touches my whole being.

The solo by Don Pullen here might bef the greatest piano solo I've ever heard in my life, and that covers a whole lot of solos. The man was amazing.
back when we had real concerts in italy. there's no more jazz of this caliber and as often as in the 80s and 90s
this stems from what mingus was doing with them and what he was teaching them this my fav
Reminds me of Charles Lloyd’s quartet with Jarrett and Dejohnette. Amazing!
