@6:42 there's another great trap here. After the white knight takes on e4, the black queen can go to f6 with a double attack on the knight and g2 pawn. White then plays bishop to d5, defending the knight. It looks like a "oh no, my pawn and rook" moment. But if black takes the g2 pawn (with the rook having no defence or escape), white can play knight to d6 or f6. This brings check and a discovered attack on the black queen. GG no re
7. ... Qc6 would be met with the very strong 8. Bb5! winning the Queen. This has actually happened 43 times on Lichess already so it appears to be a common and instructive mistake. Thanks for the question!
Jonathan, you are the only person capable of helping me. Every single damn time I face the Caro Kann, it just becomes some boring stuff. Could you please make a video about something cool to play against it?
I love your energy in explaining these games. And nice to know you have this separate channel for all the educational chess nonsense, now I can focus on the meaty Diablo II content!
But we have to wave goodbye to 127, which can be neatly constructed from its decimal digits in at least 2 more ways: 2 to the 7th power minus 1. 7 1s in base 2.
Nope, the match Jonathan shows is already in the database. You can see it, when only 2 games are left, one of them is the recent zolpi vs. GeoDoctor. So this one was the actual #127. Which is kinda lovely number as well - binary 1111111
@@weetabixharry Yes, of course you did. But my main point was not the binary, it was that it was not victim #128 but must be the #127, since this game was already in database.
Ive played over 500 games since Oct 2020 ive watched this guy and many others.. The vids are cool the traps are cool but out of the 500 some games ive played nobody ever does the moves needed to set up the traps
Gotta use the Lichess database to try and figure out ways to 'trick' your opponent into the right lines. Here's a video with that concept taken to the extreme: ruclips.net/video/fMCr4dlpsLU/видео.html
I have stopped playing Diablo 2 after realising that I can edit my primary stats with a hex editor. It became too easy at 2 billion attack/defense , 32k mana and 64k health.
Really can't decide who is bigger buffoon in internet "wannabe serious" chess world, Eric Rosen or Schrantz. Full of half-true assertions which can only mislead beginners. Rosen made a ludicrous about Grand Prix Attack in Sicilian (leaving out best moves for Black and teaching beginners how to refute Sicilian with this attack!) and Schrantz left out refutation 5. ...Bc5 and then left out better move after 5. ...Qf6 6. Nc3 .. 6. ...Qg6. Set aside his seducing moves with his hand over his hair and his irritating squeaky voice, it is still fake news style in chess, producing canon fodders for experienced club sharks or Central park coffee chop bullet players. You will learn more by watching Chessbombs Stockfich comments or even by watching Agadmator's fairy tale comments than listening to those guys who look like parodies of Schlegel and Hegel professors in Woody Allen's movies.
What's wrong with a fun opening for beginners to try out? I'm not playing against GM-level opponents so the fact that there is a technical refutation is hardly relevant to me. I'll take all the cheap tricks I can get!

I love me some Jonathan Schrantz! Also, just subscribed to your second channel
when you took the pawn on B7 why couldn't the opponent play QC6?

Jonathan Schrantz what a wonderful way to answer that question. Providing stats and everything 🥰 Thanks for all your hard work.

Nice! This reminds me of Paul Morphy's games and how he likes to go into some Evan's gambit lines; the idea of lining up queen and bishop, etc...
"and ofcourse even in pogchamps the evan's gambit is.............. not played" - dissapointed agadmator 2020
I WAS THERE FOR THE DIABLO SPEEDRUN! I MISS EVERYTHING BUT THIS IS GREAT!
I didn't know that Jonathan Schrantz has his own channel.. Really great news.. Made my day to stumble upon this channel :) All the best Jon!
great video, smart guy you are Jonathan. riffing off the Eric Rosen success I love it
Reminds me of the Orthopedic gambit where White ties Black's position into knots.
Omg I used to grind Diablo II so hard
You're a good gamer, too? Sweet!
Respect +100!
I Love Gambits ! Keep em coming ! Good job ! 😊👊👊
Wow! That’s awesome man! I’ve only played path of exile, which I’m scared to play again. I ignore everything else in my life when I play that game.
Hahaha so true, that's the essence of Path of Exile
@0:40 Holy crap it's the birth of the second channel. It's....beautiful 🥲
Gratz on the D2 speedrunnin'. It'd be cool to see you and MrLamaSC team up over D2 and Chess
@8:21 what if black moves B to H3?
Kids having fun in the back ground is awesome. As a Dad I approved.( I picked bishop to f5 LOL)
at 10:22 after Bg5, isn't there the tactic Bxf2+ Kxf2 Nxe4+ dxe4 Qxg5 losing a pawn? That looks like a great way to equalize, I think Bg5 is a blunder
crucially white can simply not take the bishop right away. Keeping the tension in the centre
@@soraneptune4178 That's true, but it still doesn't look as great structurally after Kf1 or Ke1. f3 looks more solid than Bg5
By far the best English community commentor
I love those unique unpopular gambits
Your enthusiasm gets me hyped mate 😂👍
Same thing at 10:27: Bxf2 looks like an idea to me
Jonathan, you are the only person capable of helping me. Every single damn time I face the Caro Kann, it just becomes some boring stuff. Could you please make a video about something cool to play against it?

How is Bxf2+ at 10:12 followed by Qxf7?
Can we play Orthoshnapp against Carokann defense? If so, black has the move e6 against Bishop's c4 move.
Hey hope you are doing well. Its been a week no content, was super excited for your Halloween costume 😂😂
First Comment, I love the Schrantz action. Greetings from germany!
Great gambit by great gambler😀
More gambit theory plz!

Went so you not consider, not taking the black pawn and move to E5, attacking the queen and threatening a fork on the rook and King?
triple and quadruple digit views just around the cornet :) and quadruple pawns :)
I loved playing Diablo 2 as a 5 year old lol! I miss this game
4:14 Qc6 defends the rook
Bb5
And then he sacrifices THE BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate playing against the French, so I've got to try this.
Same
I love this. My favorite to play against the French
what if Qe7 instead of Qf6?
I thought oh I'd play Bishop F5. You nanoseconds latter the worst move to play in this position would be Bishop F5!
As black I play bishop to e3 after the bishops are exchanged white mostly grabs the pawn back. Queen e2 and black is better.
And then he sacrifices THE KNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bf5 is a bit of an oopsie move
My question is how after 4...., dxe4 5. Bc4 Qe7 6. Nc3, Nd7!? 7. Nd5, Qe5 I think this position looks good for black!
So opponent made blunder

I just play c5 against the orthoschnap

How?
