      @The chemist because a big reason for peoples preference for board size depends on your shoe size. If you got size 8 feet, then an 8.5 board might seem excessively big, but to someone with size 11 feet it would feel more natural

    • @larryjimbob
      @larryjimbob 3 года назад +14

      I don't think that shoes size necessarily reflects board size.

    I had only allen key bolts on my Thunder Zero setups in the mid 2000s as a kid and now use 1" phillips (with risers to help wheel bite) just because it seems like it became the universal standard. Allen key are harder to find and keep and the bolts strip out if you're an inexperienced child trying to tweak your setup. I blame Zumiez for silently ushering in the standard of phillips head lmao

    The line I always got was that most kids did not have the strength to tighten Allen bolts and would throw tantrums. That they would usually lose the small Allen key were as a long Phillips driver gives them the extra space needed to tighten the bolts. that Allen bolts lost there thread quicker and were more difficult to remove after, that kids love adding riser pads cus they are sold on the notion the it will stop pressure cracks and that they feel more secure seeing the excess of the bolt because they won’t lose the nuts.I’ve been told this by multiple Vans and Zumiez employees. Regular skate shops usually have a good laugh knowing it’s just a money grab

      If you place the philips into the screw & turn the nut you'll strip the x bolt less frequently but me personally i ride the 7/8th alan i have for around 18 years now i''ve never had an issue i've had the same bolts for about 5 years now they still look new i keep a small alan key in my wallet and i have two in my skate bag if your serious about your stuff you wont lose it i promise
      Try out Diamond hardware or the Thunder 7/8th alans work great for me 🙏🏽

    • @yelramyelram
      @yelramyelram 2 года назад

      @the Jack yeah. if you are not pro, you are better off with Phillips, cause they last longer, the grooves melt on the allens. literally, there are no tools to save a broken allen screw, its just inferior in every way.

  • @jadriancm85
    @jadriancm85 3 года назад +14

    Aren't the 1in bolts made so that with time you don't lose any bolts? I've used 7/8 and after a while I find myself missing one or two bolts. So unless you crank the shit out of your bolts then 1in is better since the extra bolt is there and won't allow the bolt to come out as easily with time.

      Most of the skaters I have known that were losing hardware, were reusing old nylocks. I have had better luck replacing nylock nuts with every new setup, though they say you can reuse them. Admittedly, I have 1/8" showing on my current bolts.
