I have been riding for 51 years now. I have done it all, from show jumping, to Dressage, to Alta Escuela, Polo, eventing, circus tricks, liberty, volting, driving, starting colts and feral horses. And I am still learning! It never ends. You are doing great, just keep the faith and the love for your horses. Sending you much love and light, greetings from Guatemala.

Without sounding condescending.. I am really proud of you! Sticking with it, standing your ground with the "haters" and embracing the fear of rejection are all great attributes of a wonderful gypsy equestrian :) ((hugs))

Since riding is one of the smaller fragments of horseownership, its very safe to say that you are still an amazing horseperson! The way you care about your horses especially in self management is very exemplary. As for Zara, I know that you might have a deadline for your trip, but do not worry if your progress is not as fast as the mean progress. With animals in general and horses in perticular, time is usually your friend. As long as you have time and patience, things will work out and the horses will thank it to you. Every horse is different and especially with the wild horses you do not have their history. If you havent already, maybe also recheck her mineralisation. I am unsure how your ground situation in the states are, but here in germany zinc and selene are a rarity and especially zinc deficiency can cause horses to see worse and therefore get spooked more easily. We had a case like that at our stables. 😊

The world forgets that everyone has to start somewhere with any skill. I think we need to start appreciating the effort as much as the end result. The animals that take a little more time to gain the trust of always turn out to be the most loyal in the end (in my experience). I think Zara will eventually be a fantastic horse. Keep going!! Any and all progress is impressive to me!

I hate the riding standards of "equestrians" the pressure they put on people. I used to get so anxious about not riding my horse enough or not showing. Marina, you do you! You have a beautiful heart and the equestrian world needs more of you!

Please don't ever agree with the hate comments that you are a bad rider. That is so sad to hear you say that. You are not a bad rider and you can't judge bad riding off a trail ride clip anyways.
I enjoy your adventures, hang in there. Slow progress is still progress! Try for a little better than yesterday and you win

Ok. I haven’t watch the whole video yet. But having ridden with you, in the dark, galloping through the woods, jumping logs bareback, you are a killer rider! You maybe don’t have the year under you belt. But I can tell you, I was/am always impressed by you!!! You set inspiring goals and pushed me to be a better horsewoman.

This video turned out to be really encouraging for me! My horse who I’ve had for about three years has had extreme overreach injuries on both his front his front fetlocks. We found out over a month ago and have had about three vet visits for him I’m really scared to get back in the saddle but this was comforting!
    I make videos!

You may not be as good of a rider as some, but you are an amazing Equestrian. Every other quality needed is top notch, you aren’t in it for the money and just love spending time around horses and riding them- you take such good care of them and never give up when training. I hope you keep up that attitude and continue to work with Zara and Zinfandel (Not sure how to spell it-).

Sweetie, I really think that what you’re doing with the mustangs IS a learning process that will make you a better horsewoman. That in itself will help tremendously hen you climb in the saddle. You’re doing great and I’m very proud of you! Horsemanship is a never ending learning experience, even with decades under my belt, I am still learning. I’ve even been back on! A wise man always says slow is fast (thank you Mr Misner) so please don’t feel like you’re failing. Every horse is trial and error as each is different and have different paces they process and set backs are absolutely normal more so with mustangs in the gentling process than any other. I adore your determination and honesty. Keep doing what you’re doing! ❤️❤️❤️

Don't worry about being "slow." Training a mustang is the masterclass when it comes to horses and even very experienced trainers struggle with it sometimes.

I totally relate with the riding skills situation. I've had horses my whole life, but I've never taken a lesson and never done any serious riding, just pleasure. Sometimes I have to set my pride aside and admit, I AM NOT A GREAT RIDER. Just because I have horses doesn't mean I'm amazing and perfect on a professional level.

Nobody expects you to be a top rider. You are not a bad rider considering much you have ridden, especially since you didn’t start when you were super young like most equestrians. Do not listen to those kinds of people because over half of them aren’t that good themselves (if they even ride). Marina you are amazing, and the work you’ve accomplished with Zara and Zinfandel and even Zurreal is astounding. It is difficult to even imagine the amount of patience you need when training wild mustangs and you appear to have endless amounts of it (even if you don’t you still have more than most people). Don’t give up!

WOW, you successfully dewormed her! It might sound weird, but that must have been a bit of a relief to see that she was shedding the bot fly larva.... to know that there was something that was likely bothering her and that you fixed it! Keep going Marina! It's hard when you are learning something new, especially with horses-- you get to a point where you have learned enough to feel like you are pretty good and competent....then you learn even more and you feel like you don't know anything! We have all been there. Thanks again for sharing your journey. Anyone judging you should try it themselves--- we all know it's harder than it looks.

I'd say Zara's training is going well, don't be ashamed! I think the riding you do is okay, you don't need to be "the best rider" to adopt a mustang if your horsemanship is already great! Good job! :) Also I'm gonna point out that weeks ago you couldn't even brush her, now she's getting closer! It progress, I promise.

Ignore the mean comments because you are amazing! You are only starting out especially with the mustangs and some horses take different training methods in different ways. It really isn’t your fault that you haven’t been able to ride and you are still a equestrian without a rideable horse. You still love and care about your horses and the fact that you are talking with the creator of the program is absolutely amazing! This just shows how devoted you are to your horses and their training! Thank you so much for putting out videos for us because it really does make our days!

Huge props for this video. You don't need to be perfect, you don't need to make incredible progress, you don't need to be above average just because you decide to share your journey. In fact, it can be comforting to see people struggle because - let's be honest - most of us do. I've been working with my share horse for years now and have "achieved" little in that time compared to what folks accomplish in the mustang makeovers. Do I still enjoy my time at the stable? Yes, of course. And that's what it is really about.
You were very clear from the get go that you are sharing a process not a tutorial. And real life processes are messy. Watching only professional equestrians succeed on their first try can be disheartening when one (as an amateur) tries and doesn't manage to compete. So you do you, those of us who enjoy watching your progress will continue to do so and those who are only here to be a nuisance can continue wasting everybody's time if that's what they really want (my condolences, your lives must be sad). :)

I think you have made such amazing progress both with yourself and with Zara! I do think you're being really hard on yourself. You clearly love working with these horses and have the massive amount of calm patience to do well with it (and it is really inspiring to be able to watch you grow and learn in the process!). And you are NOT a bad rider. An inexperienced one, sure, but there is nothing wrong with that. You love riding, you are always putting your horses first, and you aren't pushing yourself or your horses beyond your limits. Personally, I feel like THAT'S what makes a good rider. I think you are doing great and I'm excited to keep watching you work with Zara, even if there isn't any progress in a video, it's really inspiring to see you being patient with her and learning the solutions you come up with. Please keep being you and doing the things you love!!!

Okay I hope you see this because I'm about to get real ;) I watch and thoroughly enjoy your videos. I've never heard of (or attempted) the new training methods you are using on your mustangs and I enjoy watching the theory behind it unfold. I am a 37F who started with quarter horses, training them for cattle work and then working on a stud farm from age 12 in Montana. I now live in the UK with my own horse and currently working with other people's horses to back or bring back into work (one horse I have on hospice- keeping him comfy and active until he's ready to cross the bridge). LIke you, I also started working with children (mine had special needs) and then went back into horses after several years of that. Just a little background so you can understan where I'm coming from.
As you know, horses have MANY disciplines. Most people who love horses understand that and appreciate that we only know what we know and that our best skills are going to be in specific areas; some are great at grounwork, others at eventing/show jumping, others can stick to the saddle despite riding a rodeo bronc and others pull wagons or do dressage. Decent people who know what we know, will praise any attempt you make to reach into another discipline- for example, I do join up, backing, hacking (trail rides in the UK) and cattle horses- ask me to clear a round show jumping and I'll show you how many times a person can look ridiculous on a horse ;)
The only exception to this rule of acceptance and general comradery are Barn Witches, and I'm sorry to tell you they live on both continents ;) A barn witch can be recognised by their ability to tell everyone else that they are doing things wrong, but they can't show you how to do it right because they don't ride, or don't know how to do what you're doing. Anyone poking holes in your ability is telling you loud and clear that they have no idea what they're talking about :) And they are on every yard from farm barns to eventing, racing and retirement livery yards ;) You can't escape them, you can't prove them wrong (because you'll never see them doing the things you apparently are so bad at) and you can't shut them up.... so learn to filter what you listen to

Something that helped me and my rescue pony a lot with the deworming was putting apple juice into the empty worming syringes, I could feed him the juice and he got a reward for standing nicely. It still took a long time but it definitely helped.

You're very brave for taking on a mustang and for showing your methods and progress to the whole internet! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to save a precious life. One thing I found very helpful for my miniatures who are little stinkers for dewormer, there is a pour-on version which is made for cattle. If you can brush your horse, you can pour on this stuff. It works well (Ivermectin). The brand is AVL, it comes in a 5litre jug (just over a gallon, I think about 1.25 gal) and a mini only takes 15mls or one Tbsp. An average horse dose is 50-70 mls or 2-3 oz.

I completely understand how you feel in this video. I never got to do anything with my horse dream when I was younger, until I was in college and realized I was an adult that could do whatever I wanted. So I studied horses for 10 years, and when I was 29 I bought my first horse. I'm only 30 now if that tells you anything. But when I first started out I worked at a rescue with horses that were not healthy enough to be rideable, so while I'm definitely very advanced with groundwork and Liberty work I'm just not as good of a rider as people think I should be due to the major lack of practice. Unfortunately my horse now is green, which we are making huge progress on, but it's going slowly. So I ride solid trained horses as often as possible, but the lack of ability when riding can get really frustrating. Hang in there. We'll all get where we want to be eventually, and for now we'll just have to focus on enjoying the journey ❤️

You are so inspiring to me as someone who has spent some time around horses here and there but not consistently I dream of one day being able to have a horse but know that at 22 with severe anxiety, I am years away from that possibility. And I had to move to a rural area where there aren’t even any lesson barns around… so watching your journey is helping me to get my satisfaction of watching horses lol.

You’re doing a great job.👏👏👏 Training horses is always difficult. All horses respond differently. Take the amount of time your horse needs. Oftentimes, it a case of two steps forward and one step back. Just be patient. I’ve found that when working with horses you have to work on “horse time” not “human time”.

I think what you are doing is amazing. It says soo much about a person's character when they are working with a horse like Zara. It requires unbelievable patience. Well done 👏. I also admire your bravery in putting it onto RUclips. Don't let those rude fools bother you. Much love from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤ 🐴

I can’t believe that someone would say that you are not a good rider. You had started riding not too long ago, and you have not ridden in a long time as well. I feel out of practice when I don’t ride for a week. 😂 You are doing great with Zara, I love how you are using positive reinforcement! I have a mustang too, and I know how silly they can be, one day they make huge progress , and the next your back to square one. You got this! 😀

I am finishing my binge and about caught up. I have enjoyed your videos. It started with your funnies, but has grown as you have taken on the challenge of training your mustangs. Thank you for the updates and sharing your learning progress. Everyone has to learn according to their own abilities, from humans to horses. Ignore any flack you receive from those who were born perfect do not realize it takes time for the rest of us mortals to learn. I look forward to more of your learning path to come.

Old lady 60+ yrs with horses here. You do you. Took 2 yrs to get a goofy horse I bought to figure stuff out, they're all different. Horses don't read, follow our training timeliness or follow facebook and youtube.. You're not a bad rider, you're a novice rider. Takes time, years and years and years. Be nice to yourself, your content is entertaining and funny. Your willingness to learn and patience are your most important horse attributes. Stay safe and thank you.

I think you are a great rider! Don’t be hard on your self! ❤️ I mean it’s not your fault Kazi went lame, I understand that you are not a horse trainer, and I think that you are doing your best and you are AMAZING! I follow your journey because you are awesome and I love that you keep adopting wild mustangs! No body is perfect and I don’t expect you to be perfect! I love you so much! And don’t listen to all of those mean comments. They are all lies and those people who are being rude are probably annoyed about something else. I’m praying for you and your whole Family! Love you! ❤️❤️❤️

The horse community can be so divided. You can find some of the most supportive friends who encourage you and help you, and then there are people who tell you that you suck no matter how hard you work or how much you improve. Forget those people. You are in the for the love of those horses and that's what matters!

I am I guess relatively new to following your channel and had no idea this was your story. It's honestly so inspiring, especially for people like myself who've not had the opportunity to ride but want to learn. I think trying to train a mustang comes from the idea that you want to learn and start from the beginning. The fact that you have educated yourself & taught yourself so much is not only inspiring but it shows others that it's a very realistic dream and attainable. The caveat is maintaining realistic expectations in growth. You're amazing! Thank you for openly sharing with us.
Is there a video link to how you started learning about horses, and what it takes to home, feed, and care for them?

Every time you talk about not having enough progress for a certain amount of time, I just hug you - and say TIME DOES NOT MATTER! The whole concept of a challenge done in a specific amount of days seems so odd to me. There will always be ups and downs, big and small setbacks we can't control. You never know how long things will take, and you do such an amazing job of trying your very best and putting the horse first. I think that is SO much more important than being able to do specific things within a set timeframe.
Especially with a wild horse, where we have no idea what they have been through or the physical issues they can have. Riding skills, horse training skills and all that can be learned, but you already have the most important skills needed - Your compassion, love, and willingness to learn!

You are doing awesome! Any progress at all is steps in the right direction. I have a mustang pony that I got in 2020 who was halter trained when I got him, and I've (with help and advice) worked with him towards turning him into a model saddle horse. Almost 2 years and he's only been cantered under saddle twice and not by me, so I definitely relate to feeling lacking or like a failure. I am not a strong rider or professional trainer and sometimes I feel like I should just give him up to someone who really knows what they're doing and could help him reach his full potential quicker, but, we get along great and have fun together and that's what matters. You are doing great with Zara and Zinny and I look forward to seeing what you guys do together!

Hi thank you so much for your honesty! Your video was great as always. Honestly, you not being the perfecty perfect pro is the reason I like watching your videos. I really like how you love your horses and learn so much still. I am not the best rider myself and I feel much pressure comparing to other riders, who want to be "the best at everything they do". I love that you are so down to earth and dealing with your horses in a great way, while not being a professional. That gives me hope to learn an lot, too while I am not "the bestiebest" myself.
You do great, love your vids.
Those "pros" mourning about you are just boring. ;)

First off everyone was a beginner at some point. Also, you are doing it the right way! It’s more than okay to be a beginner, and to have a coach/trainer/mentor is the right way to do it. You’re learning, you’ll make mistakes and that’s okay! I’ve been doing horses my whole life and wouldn’t have the guts to do a wild mustang so good for you!

I so enjoy you sharing your journey here with us!
It's been a huge inspiration to me, while I was waiting to finally get my own horse :D It's tough sometimes only seeing the pros, or championship riders, sharing their journeys, and you're someone I can relate to a lot (at least through the internet! haha)
And, not having an entire childhood of riding lesson experience does not make someone a bad rider... I've been an instructor on and off for over 5 years now (on and off because I had a baby), had up to 50 students per week my busiest summer, and you're not a bad rider at all! Champion olympian dressage rider? Lol no, at least not yet, but that's what makes your channel so enjoyable and relatable - we don't have to be "the worlds best" to share our experiences :D We can just be here because we love it, and want to grow our skills in it, and it's fun!
I'm so glad to be here watching, and thanks for sharing your horsey life with us!
