Nice video for steering wheel replacement, I am a mechanic and just wanted to give a little advice for anyone that has problems with horn not working or airbag fault, actually, this can be the same on many vehicles with switches on the steering wheel. On many occasion the fault can be in the unit behind the steering wheel (clock spring) , this unit has a computer ribbon wound up inside. As you turn the wheel one way or the other this ribbon unwinds and then re windes and eventually the thin wires break causing all sorts of problems.
Thanks for this explanation! I know my explanation in the video was pretty vague because I didn’t know exactly how it worked, and I have since been corrected on anything that I misspoke! Glad you enjoyed the video
Sorry for this late post but I noticed you put the airbag connector back the other way from original. Did this matter?. Also, you took the horn buttons off but couldn't you have just disconnected both at the common rotor?
Hi Keith, it doesn’t matter which way around the yellow wire plugs into the airbag. And yes I suppose I could have taken the buttons off that way, although I’d still have had to unthread them from through the wheel if that makes sense.
Great! I'm writing from Italy. I'd also like to change it without going to the mechanic, but I'm a little scared as I'm not very familiar with this type of work. What is the name of the wrench you used to remove the steering wheel and battery? Could you kindly advise me where to buy the new steering wheel like yours? Thank you!
Hey! Thanks for watching :) the type of wrench I used in this video is called a ratchet. And the wheel was from Control Customs UK, a company that makes bespoke wheels. There are probably companies in Italy that do the same!
You should take the earth off first and put it back on second AFTER tightening the red terminal on, think about the short circuit that can be created if you touch the chassis with your ratchet or spanner.
It made sense for me since I also wanted to restyle the wheel, but if it’s just more legroom you’re after then a steering wheel boss kit would be worth looking into. Brings the wheel closer to your body but in turn makes it sit higher and thus more room for your knees! 👍🏻

Thanks Willo for the reply it shows how many people with problems with their MGF/TF are finding your site of great help. . I thought I may have to reset the immobilzer etc including the code for the doors which I dont think I have.so am a little bit reluctant to go disconnecting battery for any task. cdeelectrnic dor
Willo apologize for the spelling in my last however talking about steering wheels I have a 2005 TF with 75 K on the clock. and it has a wood and leather steering wheel as well as the beige leather and wood trim which together with a faultless body presents really well. Many years ago like 1969 I had a new MGB which I had to sell and bought a Fiat sedan so was looking to buy another MGB to play with but wasnt easy to get in so I finished up falling upon the TF which I find a great car probably better than the B to drive. Willo I had to have the head and cooling system done which cost me approx $6000 but now does the car drive beautifully. Thanks again for your excellent series and keep it up
This channel is part of the reason I bought a mg tf
That’s awesome to hear. I hope you enjoy it! 😃
I didn’t realise I wanted a new steering wheel for my TF, but after watching this I really do.
It’s definitely one of those things that you don’t know you need until you’ve got! I enjoy it every time I drive 👍🏻
These videos are great, stunning car and wheel mate! I own a zt but watching these makes me want a tf to go with it haha
Cheers! They are great fun 😁
@@CarsWithWillo hi mate did they re trim the air bag too?

I don’t have a link, it was custom made
That looks ana ing. Great video
Would be handy to know the torx & socket sizes.
Noted for future videos!
Hi there any help I just brought a new mg zr and the horn doesn’t work ?
Hi! Couldn’t say for certain, but might be worth checking the fuse. If not, I saw a useful post on the mg rover forum so take a look on there.
@@CarsWithWillo where is the fuse located mate ?
I like to watch your video👍🏻
Thanks! 🙂

I take it it makes getting your leg under it a lot easier?
Yes it does help a little bit. Not loads but at 6’4” and mostly limbs, I’ll take every inch of space I can get! 😂
@@CarsWithWillo I struggle and I'm only 5'8" so definitely looking at get one of these.

@@CarsWithWillo yeh I've seen them. Not sure id like the position of the wheel after tho.
Hey Willo, thinking about buying one of these. I was just wondering how much it costs if you don’t mind me asking?
Varies depending on what car and what materials. Contact the company for a quote
Whats the website for the wheel mate?
Just search for control customs wheels 👍🏻
Sorry if I missed it but how much did it cost?
More than the car 😂
£480 + vat
It’s worth getting a quote because it varies depending on what you want 🙂 there’s no set price

great video did disconnecting battery mean you had to reset any other systems after you reconnected.
