Ending of the First movie: Drax petting a grieving Rocket on the head after the death of Groot, even though Rocket had earlier mocked him about the Loss of his Wife And Daughter, yet Drax still chose to comfort him over the loss of his only friend, Beginning of This movie: Rocket hysterically laughs over the fact that Drax doesn’t want to wear one of his jet packs because he has sensitive nipples, boy that really escalated quickly didn’t it?
Fleurette Parent So really close friends never tease each other & joke around with each other at all??? I'll answer that, they do & often! I understand that's not everybody, but who'd ever want to hang around super serious stiff ass people like that.
KNDAWG74 I never said that, I was Just trying to point out the sudden Mean-Spirited tone and feel I had spotted when I first saw this movie, yes, people can Joke, Tease, and poke fun at each other, but literally laughing at, and even mocking someone just because they have a sensitive body part isn’t funny at all. (same for insulting ones appearance) there’s joking around and then there’s just being a total Dick
I definitely see your flaws with this movie but I still really enjoy this film. Probably because I love the characters since the first one is my favorite MCU movie. Not one of my favorites, but I definitely don't think it deserves so much hate
I personally feel that this film flows alot like empire strikes back, where as you put it was a very character driven movie. and as someone who values good characters pretty much more then anything in a story ( because lets face it if you dont give a crap about the main characters what does that say about your enjoyment for the rest of the film)i LOVE this film. keep in mind this film only takes place about 2-3 months after the first one and the first dint deal with all their faults such as rocket being rough around the edges. but i feel like everyone except drax who finished his arc pretty much in the first one grew alot in this film especially yondu and nebula who were the opposition in the first one and by the end of this film i felt so much for these characters even more so then the first one.
Mario Lopez The first act follows Stark as he escapes from his prison and he overcomes his past (as an arms dealer). Act two is about him achieving flight. Act three sees Stark learn about the Ten Rings invading the towns and he accepts the heroes call. Act four is the conclusion where Stane builds his suit and Stark fights him.
I watched this movie when it hit the theaters and a couple of times since at home and i could not put my finger on what it was that didn't sit right with me but this video has completely encapsulated all my thoughts on it! Hats off to you for not shying away from your real opinion even though it is controversial, you've definitely shed light on this for me and I imagine a lot of people confused about the film. Thanks for the great content
Thanks man I really appreciate that. That’s actually what I was hoping happen. I don’t want to convince anyone not to like it. But for those of us that were frustrated by it, maybe I can put a language to it.
I get the feeling that since Sean is a dad with young kids the darker elements tend to bother him more than someone who’s not, being a parent usually seems to cause people to not like dark and violent stuff as much as they probably did back when they weren’t parents, I feel like most of you out there have a mom or a dad who looks at things like say The Fly or Dredd (2012) and is like “I don’t like that stuff, it’s too violent for me” And that’s what I feel happened with Sean, but there’s no shame in it since it seems like that happens to most people in his shoes
I love that you weren’t afraid to give your own opinion on this movie. I personally loved this one but on my ranking in the comments black panther was 17 on my list. So I respect that you gave your own opinion
I really liked how dark the storyline was with Peter and his dad (or dads, I suppose). It was definitely over the top but I appreciated the willingness to deal with more unsettling concepts than we've seen in most of the MCU. That said, you're totally spot on with the terrible balancing of different tones in this movie. The way the humor was set up around some of the really heavy scenes ruined a lot of the emotional effect you'd expect, say from discovering that Ego killed our protagonists mom with a tumor (only to get a Hasselhoff joke 10 seconds later). So I guess how one feels about what you call the "mean streak" really depends on personal preference, but there's no denying how poorly it meshed with the comedy and quirkiness this movie tried to pull off. The first movie damn-near perfectly walked a fine line of being hilarious and self-aware while still telling a serious story. Guardians 2 basically took a gigantic diarrhea shit on the floor and tried to cover it up with sprinkles.
Sean, you handle yourself so well in your responses to comments. Bravo to you, because I would either want to yell or cry at some of these people. This is such a well thought out review. Especially the three act structure stuff, which I totally noticed in Avengers as there are three main battles/events which shape the three acts. I believe I enjoyed GOTG2 more than you, but you hit on some of the things that bothered me as I thought more about it later (saw it twice in the theater). The mean-spiritedness is my biggest issue. I don't like most comedians due to the cruelty of humor, same with most movie comedies. Being mean isn't enjoyable to watch, personally. And it makes it hard to like the characters as they are being so harsh and cruel, in the spirit of 'humor.' I get frustrated when people (usually my students) say such cruel things and then are like 'i'm just kidding' or 'it's just a joke' when really, there's always a nugget of truth in humor/jokes.
I really like your honesty on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While I still like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I do think it could have been better. I think the comedy in Guardians Vol. 2 is better than the first Guardians movie. However I think the first Guardians of the Galaxy is a better movie overall. Also, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is my least favourite phase three marvel movie.
I'm definitely in the middle. I really enjoy the film but I do acknowledge it has some issues and it's definitely not as rewatchable as some other marvel films. I just love the characters so much that it's kind of impossible for me not to have fun watching a movie with these characters together. Great job on the review Sean! I really respect that you're staying true to your opinion despite the backlash.
People are so unnecessarily brutal to you in this film. You make so many good points. I still really enjoy the movie, but after watching this video and going back to the film, I completely see the issues you have with it, and I kind of agree with you.
I agree with the off-color jokes and moments in this. It shows real maturity to have someone say "its not ok to make a joke of a woman's appearance when she is clearly uncomfortable." THANK YOU. Also the Patricide/ Prolicide was way too dark in a comedic movie, as well as the characters laughing as Yondu's crew is killed. Great review.
I think we need to stop hating on people who like and dislike certain films, we need to respect that everyone deserves the right to speak freely about films they love and hate. Now I will abdmit, I'm not perfect with this, and I do sometimes get shocked when a friend of mine doesnt like movies I like or dislike movies I dislike, but I think its OK for everyone to have their own opinion, because we have to remember, film is about entertainment and if a film entertains you then whats the problem. Sean I personally really enjoyed this movie and I'm loving your videos, keep up the good work.
Great review. I feel just about the same about this movie. The mean-spirited nature of the story mixed with the humor didn't work for me. I liked a lot of the humor. The cast is great once again. I liked that Yondu and Nebula joined the Guardians eventually. I just don't like how Michael Rooker was introduced as a "kind of" secondary antagonist in the first movie and they brought him back as a hero only for him to sacrifice himself and die in the end. Sound familiar? That's exactly what happened with him in The Walking Dead. The lack of a "main" villain bothered me. Ego being revealed as the "main" villain didn't really come as a surprise to me because once again, the villain is someone close to the hero with the same powers/abilities as him. I also didn't like the constant fighting between the Guardians. The entirety of the first movie, they were trying to get along and become a team/family. By the end they were a good team. In this movie, they're back at each others' throats. I'm not saying that a group should be without conflict completely. A group like them would no doubt argue a lot, but the constant attacking (especially between Peter and Rocket) was irritating. Taserface's Ravengers killing Yondu's Ravengers while laughing and mocking them was hard to watch. It was really uncomfortable to hear about Peter's thousands of siblings who were murdered and that eventually Ego killed his mom. Overall, I think this has enjoyable moments, but it's one of the weaker MCU movies. The mean-spirited tone is what really bothers me. There's a difference between having a "darker" and more serious tone like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk and just being mean-spirited like GOTGVol.2.
I thought i was the only one in the world who didn't like the movie at all, everybody was in love with it and I was shocked. Too many isssues that can't be ignored, even though Michael Rooker killed it.
I get your point about the story, but I liked that Ego was a big reveal, and I liked that it showed our heroes weak points, but the Sovereign, they’re just utter garbage
Great review! And I’m not a huge fan of either gotg unfortunately but I’m glad you love the first one and can’t wait to see your review on avengers 3 🤓👍
I actually thought you forgot to upload this video. XD But really, it must have actually taken a long time to upload because of how long it is. XD Great video, Sean! I understand why you don't like this movie, and it makes sense viewing it from your perspective. Personally, I think it's a great movie, and a great sequel. Sure, some of the humor felt a bit forced, I'll agree with you there, but there were some genuinely funny moments in there as well. The twist of Ego being the villain actually played out pretty well. Taserface was a bit forgettable, but he did make for a pretty good meme for a short while. :P All in all, as I said in my stardust review, I think this movie is a great sequel to the first. :) (The Sovereign still didn't need to be in there, though. They didn't really pose much of a threat. XD)
I respect your points. The first one was amazing top 3 but the second one wasn’t bad, but it definitely was still pretty good. The dark view of the movie was ok in this case in my opinion since it was the guardians. If it was the avengers or any of them that wouldn’t be that good
I always compared this film to Empire Strikes Back in terms of plot structure and reading the comments, I’m glad I’m not alone. Sure, it isn’t a perfect movie and the first film is technically a better crafted movie. However, I think complaining that the crew getting separated is a negative just doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t want another first guardians movie where the team is together the entire time. Having the team stay together and repeating the same story beats would have gotten tiresome. That’s one of my biggest issues with Ultron is it’s just a darker Avengers 1. Yondus arc is very well done, considering he was pretty uninteresting in Guardians 1. The Sovereign are pretty lame sure, but i considered it a compelling way to start the movie. I compare to like an intro movie to a James Bond film where the pretitle is unrelated to the film, except they come back later on. Sure, this film does have problems. I think the midpoint of the film (Yondu and Rocket trapped on the ship) isn’t that compelling and is the low point of the film. The tone is inconsistent I can agree with that as well. But I think that overall, this film is a good curveball in the MCU. It’s different. As you said, it’s not about the team or the plot but about each individual character and how they act. It’s better to look at it as a sum of its parts rather than a whole. Personally I think the first one is better, but I think that this film isn’t that much worse.
Yea, I didn't enjoy it either, I give it a 6.5/10, and for me it's a low score, which means I just disliked it, I didn't hate it, but it was definitely a huge step down to the 1st one. I mean I like the new characters that appear and they have their funny moments, but this was definitely weak for me, so you're not alone, we pretty much have the same rating for this one.
Hey Chris, I totally agree with you, GOTG is still one of my favourite movies but what they did with vol.2 was just messy. I so want to love it but I can’t!
What an emotionally resonant movie. Every character gets a moment to shine both comedically and emotionally. It has one of the better Marvel villains with Ego, and that's because of both the portrayal and his connection emotionally to Peter. Before this movie Rocket was my favorite of the gaurdians, after it I'm not so sure. But all of the gaurdians, old and new, have their time to shine and by the end feel like they've gotten their fair share of screen time. Yondu is the one character that really surprised me, with how much you could relate to and fell sorry for him. The first scene at that pub was just great. Gaurdians two might just be better than the first gaurdians, it certainly is more emotional, but I'm not so sure if it is as good technically and comedically. I give it the same score as the first. 9.3/10
I really enjoyed the movie, but hearing your take really made me look at the movie in a different perspective and I can understand why people dislike it
Wow. I completely disagree. I rewatched this recently because I wanted to understand why some people hated it, and the only thing i could find was that it had some pacing issues in the second act. Personally, I couldnt stop laughing at the jokes (although at some points the characters laughing can be annoying). Maybe the baby groot stuff could have been toned down, particularly the find the fin part, but these are very minor and dont affect my overall enjoyment. In my opinion, the arguments presented are easily counterable and i didnt get the impression that you fully understood some of the plot points (not meant to be hating on you btw) 1. The guardians are not heroes. Starlord is a theif, drax is out for revenge, rocket is a bounty hunter etc. So rocket stealing the batteries isnt heroic - he aint a hero 2. Waiting until the third act to reveal egos villiany was the point. He wanted to get peter to trust him and earn his cooperation. 3. Civil war is character driven in that the fall on their side of the accords based on their own feelings so it can work. (Civil war isnt my favourite, but i know you rate it highly) 4. Nebula hates thanos more than gamora, so when she spares her she jnows she needs her to kill her father. She also wants the survive, so siding with the guardians to get off the planet makes sense. 5. The soundtrack (oddly not mentioned much) has way more cohesion in the this film than vol. 1. The songs have meaning and punch to them either by the tone of the film and song being parallel like father and son or the chain, or clashing like come a little bit closer. 6. If the important moments getting undercut by jokes constantly is annoying and jarring, why is ragnarok so well received. I honestly think that people just dont want this to be as good as the first, but since the first two thor movies where meh, they want it to be the best mcu movie. Some serious clash of opinion.
As I said in my video, BY FAR my opinion on this one is the least popular thing I’ve said on my channel. I’ll respond to your arguments but when you start off by telling me I didn’t understand the plot and end by telling me I didn’t want to like the movie...it seems like you decided to book end your review stepping on each of my toes. 1. They aren’t hero’s (fair enough) but they are “guardians.” And they aren’t doing a heist. They aren’t out for revenge. After the first 5 minutes they aren’t on a mercenary mission. They aren’t doing anything which would be compelling as a plot. They’re on the run because rocket it is an idiot. Hero’s or not, that’s not compelling. 2. I get why they waited. I’m not suggesting Gunn accidentally goofed. It just didn’t work. It left the movie without a driving conflict (besides the sovereign chasing them). More importantly, it makes no sense. You don’t build trust by lying to someone and then telling them the truth the next day. 3. Civil War has lots of character elements but it’s still plot driven. When a terrible accident occurs the government steps into place accords on the avengers and differing views and an outside force start to tear the team apart. There’s a plot point which drives the character elements. 4. You’re not really responding to what I said. You’re giving a birds eye view of her character arc and motivations. I was describing a ridiculous scene where she’s firing lasers at gamora and 30 seconds later they’re pals. Maybe there’s a way to make what you describe make sense. What play out in the movie is not what I was criticizing. 5. Fair enough. 6. Is that your defense of this movie? ...to point at another movie. Well get to Ragnarok next week. As for this week, the wildly uneven tone and jokes mid-dramatic sequence certainly undercut the drama. You can believe whatever you want. But it’s bit bizarre to assign motives to other people. To suggest the real motive behind this video is that I just didn’t want to like the movie as much as the first, is very strange. I get sooo much crap for giving my opinion on this movie. In this comment you told me I didn’t understand the plot. I only have motivation to give a better review. Perhaps the problem isn’t that I don’t understand the movie... Perhaps the problem isn’t that I just didn’t want to like it... Perhaps I just see the movie very different from you. And that’s ok.
I personally agree with Thee Origin. I really don't get the love for Thor: Ragnorak, but everybody always makes out to be the best film ever, whereas GOTG: V2 is absolutely hated. GOTG: V2 humour is so much more funny than just odd, the planets the characters visit are stronger and the emotions are a lot more important. The whole GOTG franchaise is about family relationships and feeling loved, whether it be the guardians themselves or Gamora and Nebula. This makes the whole Ego storyline work even better because you feel like Ego has betrayed the whole family idea, just for power, heightening the finale.
To be fair, Guardians isn’t a widely hated film. It has its critics. But you can read the comments here....people love it. So to suggest people love ragnarok and hate guardians 2 misrepresents the general consensus.
My point was they are very similar in style - bright colours and a focus on comedy. Thor: Ragnorak for me felt a bit of a cheap copy of GOTG, except without good comedy, poor and characters. Even the settings felt flat
I’ve been going through a book today called “Hit Makers” by Derek Thompson. There was a section on hit films and formula. It discussed how To make a hit movie, make a film which fits all but one of the conventions of the genre. Too many changes, and it’s a mess or parody. Change too few and it’s formulaic. Change just the right amount and it feels fresh. What it had to say seemed relevant to the Thor 3 vs guardians 2 discussion. I can fully see how many would see Thor 3 as changing so much it turns into self-parody. But for me, I see the film as having a story a resonate with but which changes the tone. This familiar yet fresh. Guardians 2 turns story structure upside down, cranks up the humor and adds a mean streak. I perceive it as a far bigger departure from what came before and the genre in general.
Having just watched all of this video, I agree with a lot of what was said, particularly the jarring tone and mean streak throughout. In my opinion, Drax only has two good moments: when Mantis feels his sadness and when he holds Mantis up to save her from the rising soil. Other than that and a few of his one-liners, he’s sort of a jerk here. However, I disagree on the notion of the story not working. I really appreciate the progression of the character driven story in Guardians 2, and think it effectively builds up these characters in a satisfying, emotional way. Also, I think the same effect could have been achieved without including the Sovereign, or at least utilizing them differently. Although Guardians 2 has a better soundtrack imo, Guardians 1 is a much better film/experience. Thanks for your reviews, Sean!
I actually preferred this one to the first one. The first one had such enthusiasm around it ... and it was nice, but I wasn't thrilled about it. I recently watched it again and I was surprised when I realized I was bored. But the second one is sooooo funny and entertaining. I could watch it over and over again. I understand everything you say about why you dislike it, but these reasons might be why I really like it. Like the fact that there are very dark stuff mixed with very absurd ones. That's something I enjoy because the contrast between the two reinforces the dark stuff to me, and the funny things are so unexpected in this context that they make me laugh to tears. I also like the structure of the movie. I get why you think the different parts don't work as a whole, but to me it was no problem (except for the first part with the sovereigns that was not necessary and very uninteresting). Anyway, I really enjoy that movie, I think it's epic and so different from the rest of the MCU. Also, Baby Groot is amazing.
I really really wish I knew the answer to that. I get it if people are inflammatory with how they communicate their opinion. But people get MAD at me for not liking a movie I WANTED TO LIKE. Haha
Sean Chandler Talks About hell if you think that's bad I've actually seen people get mad at reviewers for LIKING a movie, in the case of the last Jedi. I literally heard someone describe John Campea as a quote "toxic prick" because he gave the last Jedi a good review. so I guess you're never safe, weather you like or dislike a movie. you'll be pissing off someone.
I think one of the biggest MCU connections in this movie is all the stuff that Nebula and Gamora have to say about Thanos. I'm really looking forward to watching it again for that reason, since I think that helps establish his character.
I think this movie has got one of the best endings of the MCU. It's a great use of Father & Son and it is really the perfect end to this story of the Guardians' insecurities (ex:. Peter Quill and his family; Nebula and her family; Rocket and his defense mechanisms along with losing the first person that he could relate to; Gamora with Nebula and the 'unspoken thing'; Drax, and the Guardians being the first thing that he can call a family since Ovette and Camaria - especially when he holds Groot, despite his usual resent to embracing him - and even Mantis has a new home and friends after being alone in Ego as his sleeping pill...). And Kraglin's reaction when the Ravagers come to the funeral always gives me chills...
Vol. 2 was a slight better than the first one. For a few reasons. 1. Kurt Russell's Ego the Living Planet as the main villain. 2. Mantis and Drax's friendship. 3. The Taserface joke. 4. Yondu joining the Guardians.
I rewatched Vol.2 again for the first time in a year and a half, and I loved it as always. It’s not as good as Vol.1, but it’s not bad imo. I can understand with why you’re negative towards Vol.2, but I’ll respect your opinion! The Positives: Acting, Humor, Soundtrack, Characters, Baby Groot, VFX, Ending, Emotional Weight, Ego The Negatives: The Sovereign, Pacing in the middle of the movie.
The biggest mistake of the film was dividing the team that had been so painstakingly developed in the original film. This made the characters irritating instead of fun and made the story choppy.
I thought GOTG2 was okay. I did not like the ending. Not because Yondu died but because it just kinda ended! I felt like I was left hanging or something.
Debi Lucas that’s surprising I felt the opposite I was scared that the movie was just going to end but I loved the ending it was emotional and satisfying after watching a great movie. Just my opinion
Snehil Shrey yeah well ego fucked around made jokes and bragged about himself until, Suprise reveals himself as a secret boss. Guardians 1 is the objectively better movie. You’re just white knighting for this movie like people do for iron man 3 🤦♂️
I think I'm the only one who fully agrees with you on this. I LOVED the first Guardians, and while I still enjoyed the sequel, it definitely didn't live up to the original.
I dig the Star Lord look 😂😂 and honestly i felt the same way i hate that mean streak throughout the whole movie and the awkward Ego scenes and Drax literally destroys one monster the whole movie!
I totally agree. Did not feel like it fit the scope of a super hero movie and I felt it was all over the place. Humor was on par for me as usual and the visuals were great. Needed more Sylvester! Lol
I personally like this film and think it is very funny but can see where the mean spiritedness can be off-putting for some. I'm normally not for that either but it doesn't bother me as much in this film.
I respect your opinion and i definitely wont hate because i think your a absolutely great youtuber, but i looooved this movie and acctually enjoyed it more than gotg. I do agree with you about nebula, shes the weakest part of the first one aswell imo
Awesome video and I think I liked the movie a little more than you but I agree with all your criticisms. My main problem is the forced humour and the mean streak, this film lacks the heart at the core of the original and also undoes a lot of the work done in the original (rockets ark, and some of the mum stuff). You explaining the problems with this story I think can explain why some people had a problem with the structure of the last Jedi they rey stuff was character based while the space scenes were more plot and then it collides.
This film is definitely not as good as the OG. The tone is far to over the place and the story and character stuff is a bit to mean spirited and dark. But I still like the film. The soundtrack is fantastic, it's a fun world to be in with great characters and hilarious humour. The CGI is spectacular and I like the development they give the guardians especially nebula and Gamora
When I first saw this movie, I thought it was a lot of fun and my heart was completely stolen by Baby Groot. When I saw it a second time, I really didn't enjoy it as much. I still like it, but I didn't think it was that good. I will always think the Yondu, Rocket, and Baby Groot scene was so funny while they tried to get him to bring his fin. You bring up a lot of good points on the incongruity of the movie. I could understand why you feel the way you do about the movie's themes of silliness, darkness, etc. I thought that it had a lot of good character moments in the movie. I especially love how they developed yondu's character and how he was so similar to rocket. You saw a little bit of a different Rocket in Infinity War and I am curious how they are going to use him in Avengers 4. I hope James Gunn finds a way to come with a good conclusion in volume 3. The guardians are my favorite heroes of the muc b/c they are so different and odd. I would like for the Guardians legacy to end on a high note :)
I loved Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I recently revisited it. Ego was decent, he's a charming sociopath. Sylvester Stallone should have more screentime in Guardians 3. The ending was moving, I nearly cried.
Did you click the bell 🛎 icon and adjust the settings there? I actually listened to a podcast on notification issues last week. It seems a lot of people are have issues with RUclips not sending notifications.
Something I find strange is that even though this isn’t the single most beloved MCU movie Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 for some reason is the number 1 “MCU movie you’re not allowed to dislike” I’m not kidding, this movie, more than any other MCU movie seems to ignite the biggest amount of fury inside the hearts of everyone on the internet if you say you don’t like it, and I just have to ask, why is that?
What you said is completely true. When I said once that I felt Guardians pf the Galaxy Vol. 2 was one of the two weaker Phase 3 Movies, one said that hurts.
Absolutely. My issue isn't with the concept of someone taking an item and being chased. My issue is with a plot about someone stealing something for no purpose at all (except to setup a character moment with Yondu). Star-Lord being mercenary/artifact thief going on an adventure that turns him into a hero is interesting. Rocket stealing batteries and putting all of his friends in serious danger and being a jerk about it....just because....not interesting
Sean Chandler Talks About I see what you're saying. I personally find someone learning about their self destructive tendencies and bettering themselves to be fascinating. It's alot slower to reach that payoff than Star-Lord though
I'm obviously late to this video, but I actually agree. I didn't hate the movie, but it was one of those movies that should have been great and just clearly wasn't.
My thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (2017) The Good: Yondu Soundtrack The main characters Baby groot dancing Ending Drax Emotional moments Cinematography Nebula The Mixed: The ravagers Ego The comedy 2nd act The action Mantis The Bad: Taserface Long sub plots The sovereign Overall score: 7.2/10 Entertainment score: 7.5/10 Grade: B
Definitely with you on this, Sean…There’s just something about this movie that I can’t stand. I never thought I’d be uninterested by a Guardians movie after the first one, but this succeeded at it. All of the villains are just not interesting, the Guardians feel far worse than the first (ESPECIALLY Drax and Rocket), and the comedy ranges from legitimately funny to completely obnoxious. I want to like it more, especially because I cried a lot when Yondu died, so it clearly did something right, but the movie is such a mixed bag, and the bad parts stand out to me a lot more than the good.
I’m waiting on the “Sean’s Hairstyles” ranked video…
I think someone else will need to do that one. I may be biased.
Looking like Tony stark....
Gotta be hard they're always great
I think I'm going to get a real hair cut in preparation for Infinity War.
Sean Chandler Talks About Get Stan Lee to do it....
I don't see Sean Chandler. I only see Star Lord.
I definitely liked this movie, but the first one was still way better
yes by far
Ending of the First movie:
Drax petting a grieving Rocket on the head after the death of Groot, even though Rocket had earlier mocked him about the Loss of his Wife And Daughter, yet Drax still chose to comfort him over the loss of his only friend,
Beginning of This movie:
Rocket hysterically laughs over the fact that Drax doesn’t want to wear one of his jet packs because he has sensitive nipples,
boy that really escalated quickly didn’t it?
MY NIPPLES!!
They’re friends
Fleurette Parent So really close friends never tease each other & joke around with each other at all??? I'll answer that, they do & often! I understand that's not everybody, but who'd ever want to hang around super serious stiff ass people like that.
KNDAWG74 I never said that, I was Just trying to point out the sudden Mean-Spirited tone and feel I had spotted when I first saw this movie,
yes, people can Joke, Tease, and poke fun at each other, but literally laughing at, and even mocking someone just because they have a sensitive body part isn’t funny at all. (same for insulting ones appearance)
there’s joking around and then there’s just being a total Dick
Snehil Shrey “Guardians aren’t humans.” so um who is Peter Quill then???
I definitely see your flaws with this movie but I still really enjoy this film. Probably because I love the characters since the first one is my favorite MCU movie. Not one of my favorites, but I definitely don't think it deserves so much hate
I totally agree, it was a good movie, just not that good
I personally feel that this film flows alot like empire strikes back, where as you put it was a very character driven movie. and as someone who values good characters pretty much more then anything in a story ( because lets face it if you dont give a crap about the main characters what does that say about your enjoyment for the rest of the film)i LOVE this film. keep in mind this film only takes place about 2-3 months after the first one and the first dint deal with all their faults such as rocket being rough around the edges. but i feel like everyone except drax who finished his arc pretty much in the first one grew alot in this film especially yondu and nebula who were the opposition in the first one and by the end of this film i felt so much for these characters even more so then the first one.
John Craig more of an empire strikes back than last Jedi which was supposed to be as unpredictable as empire
thanks Sean for breaking down ur movie review structure...this is basically a movie review 101 class!! pretty good skills!!
Thanks I really appreciate it. That was very much what I was trying to do n
God you look so much like Chris Pratt the Star Lord cosplay is so on point
Rosie Ackerman I just read Chris and I thought you were going to say Chris Stuckmann for some weird reason. Then I scrolled down and read Pratt.
Actually, I think Iron Man 1 has a four act structure.
Kyle Stateler Could you care to elaborate on that?
Mario Lopez The first act follows Stark as he escapes from his prison and he overcomes his past (as an arms dealer). Act two is about him achieving flight. Act three sees Stark learn about the Ten Rings invading the towns and he accepts the heroes call. Act four is the conclusion where Stane builds his suit and Stark fights him.
I agree
Kyle Stateler You are right! Thanks for explaining and taking the time to reply.
I LOVE Vol 2 SO FREAKING MUCH. And to be honest I Like it Better then Vol 1.
Same the Ego storyline is so much more memorable than the collector
me too
Same, you are not alone.
You look like Chris Pratt in this video. Ironic.
Oh yeah!
Thanks for including me in your video mate! Nice hair-do also!
No problem. Thanks for sharing!!!
Which user are you?
Oh my bad. I thought I included it. I’m Spidey-Sense :) yeah Spidey is my favorite superhero next to Batman
Haha. That’s one very graphic way to describe it.
You make some very good points. Glad I watched your video.
Great review dude and love your starlord look
I like this movie a lot but DAMN you make an incredible argument for why you don't enjoy it
People are so unnecessarily brutal to you in this film. You make so many good points. I still really enjoy the movie, but after watching this video and going back to the film, I completely see the issues you have with it, and I kind of agree with you.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FEATURING MY REACTION! Of course there were a lot of things I disagreed on, but film is subjective anyway, so it's cool.
I see a Star-Lord cosplay coming.
Caleb Iozzio Hey!! I saw you in his last Q&A! Lol I don't know how I remember that.
Christian Hallenbeck LOL
I was rewatching your livestream then you release this! I love your content so much and your an awesome RUclipsr/Reviewer. Keep it up man!
Thanks. I appreciate it.
There's a difference between having a "darker" and more serious tone like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk and just being mean-spirited like GOTGVol.2.
this would sit at about 10 or 11 on my list.
I thought i was the only one in the world who didn't like the movie at all, everybody was in love with it and I was shocked. Too many isssues that can't be ignored, even though Michael Rooker killed it.
Owen B. That doofus is a child who likes explosions. If it isn't exciting throughout then he would give a negative film
It was a BAD movie
I get your point about the story, but I liked that Ego was a big reveal, and I liked that it showed our heroes weak points, but the Sovereign, they’re just utter garbage
Great review! And I’m not a huge fan of either gotg unfortunately but I’m glad you love the first one and can’t wait to see your review on avengers 3 🤓👍
This is like eating Taco Bell with a pizza in between and pouring pancake syrup on top.
Exactly!
I actually thought you forgot to upload this video. XD But really, it must have actually taken a long time to upload because of how long it is. XD
Great video, Sean! :P
All in all, as I said in my stardust review, I think this movie is a great sequel to the first. :)
(The Sovereign still didn't need to be in there, though. They didn't really pose much of a threat. XD)
I respect your points. The first one was amazing top 3 but the second one wasn’t bad, but it definitely was still pretty good. The dark view of the movie was ok in this case in my opinion since it was the guardians. If it was the avengers or any of them that wouldn’t be that good
Vol. 2 is in my top 2 but i can respect and understand your opinion on the movie.
Which is the other movie in your top 2?
@@SirYello Infinity War. however my top 2 has changed to Infinity War and Vol. 3 as my top 2
Imagine sending an entire army and creating a god-like being just because a raccoon stole your batteries.
I thought it sucked, so one fan on your side.
YES!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!
Sean Chandler Talks About the question now is, which is worse GOTG VOL 2 or Star Trek V?
Snehil Shrey The 1st was so much better then Vol 2. I understand why you like Vol 2 but I can never understand why you prefer it over the 1st
Snehil Shrey I don't think you payed attention to the video. I really like the movie myself but I can understand why some people don't like it.
WOOOOOO ANOTHER MARVEL REVIEW!!!!
PLEASE KEEP MAKING THESE TYPES PF VIDEOS I LOVE YOUR CONTENT!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
In my opinion, the arguments presented are easily counterable and i didnt get the impression that you fully understood some of the plot points (not meant to be hating on you btw)
1. The guardians are not heroes. Starlord is a theif, drax is out for revenge, rocket is a bounty hunter etc. So rocket stealing the batteries isnt heroic - he aint a hero
2. Waiting until the third act to reveal egos villiany was the point. He wanted to get peter to trust him and earn his cooperation.
3. Civil war is character driven in that the fall on their side of the accords based on their own feelings so it can work. (Civil war isnt my favourite, but i know you rate it highly)
Wasn't big on this movie, easily one of my least favorites, although I don't fully hate it
I actually preferred this one to the first one.
Yeah I actually felt the same way and through his review I can now kinda see why I was mixed on it as well
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is easily my least favorite movie in the MCU
Ultimate Unpopular Opinion: Thor 1, 2 and 4, The ENTIRE Ant-Man Trilogy, and Captain Marvel > GOTG Vol. 2
Ego is very compelling. A celestial with a big plan to rule all and be everything. That’s very compelling.
I thought it was entertaining but I found the plot kinda weird and if I try to explain it to people I can't.
I agreed with you at the start..... and the more I watched... the more i AGREED WITH YOU!! Like I can't agree more
A bit of good, a bit of bad, a bit of both. - Peter Quill 2014
I watched the movie this week and I like it more than I used to.
Why do people get so butthurt about people's opinion? geez
I really really wish I knew the answer to that. I get it if people are inflammatory with how they communicate their opinion.
But people get MAD at me for not liking a movie I WANTED TO LIKE. Haha
Yeah, it is with everything on the internet. If someone does not agree wth you, they are wrong. Which is kind of stupid...
Sean Chandler Talks About hell if you think that's bad I've actually seen people get mad at reviewers for LIKING a movie, in the case of the last Jedi. I literally heard someone describe John Campea as a quote "toxic prick" because he gave the last Jedi a good review. so I guess you're never safe, weather you like or dislike a movie. you'll be pissing off someone.
ikr
Okay first of many- the inciting incident is not Rocket stealing batteries, it’s Ego finding Peter
Yeah, i didn't care too much for this one either. The first one is so much better.
I rewatched Vol.2 again for the first time in a year and a half, and I loved it as always. It’s not as good as Vol.1, but it’s not bad imo. I can understand with why you’re negative towards Vol.2, but I’ll respect your opinion!
The Positives: Acting, Humor, Soundtrack, Characters, Baby Groot, VFX, Ending, Emotional Weight, Ego
The Negatives: The Sovereign, Pacing in the middle of the movie.
You've swayed me quite a bit. Great review, I'll need to redo my marvel ranking lol
The biggest mistake of the film was dividing the team that had been so painstakingly developed in the original film. This made the characters irritating instead of fun and made the story choppy.
Yep. The key dynamic of the franchise (the team) was taken away.
Thanks for featuring me once again Sean 👊👊
Also I noticed you have starlord hair and beard 😂😂
I never actually realized any of what you said, and now that you have said it, I realize that this movie isn't the best, BUT I do still enjoy it.
Snehil Shrey yea destruction of Xandar no stakes, infinity stones, no stakes sure....
Snehil Shrey ragnarok was an apocalypse troll lol. How could there not be stakes?
Snehil Shrey yeah well ego fucked around made jokes and bragged about himself until, Suprise reveals himself as a secret boss. Guardians 1 is the objectively better movie. You’re just white knighting for this movie like people do for iron man 3 🤦♂️
Snehil Shrey yeah yeah blah blah blah
Havent watched the video yet but i love that thumbnail
I think I'm the only one who fully agrees with you on this. I LOVED the first Guardians, and while I still enjoyed the sequel, it definitely didn't live up to the original.
While I don’t agree with your opinions on this movie, I respect these analytics on movie making and the genre. 👏 good job
This review was so good!!! I agree with everything I really didn't like this movie when I saw it.
@Caitlyn Carvalho If I enjoyed the film more I think I would overlook the fact hes a planet
Are you gonna rank post credit scènes? Would Like to know your opinion... Especialy Iron Man 3
I like how you stay true to your opinion
Thanks. Sometimes it’s hard. Haha
Where did u get that shirt???
There's several different versions on Amazon. I got the $20 t-shirt version. There's a $30 one which is even closer to the one in the movie.
Ok thanks
Hey Sean, I’m not getting your notifications and I don’t know why. Is there something else I have to do?
Did you click the bell 🛎 icon and adjust the settings there?
I actually listened to a podcast on notification issues last week. It seems a lot of people are have issues with RUclips not sending notifications.
I'm okay with it. My main problem is that it felt really slow... However, I love the ending.
The music in this film makes it a lot better for me
Are you doing this for End Game?
I see your point now....I think they made it funny to try to offset the dark stuff
Did it work for you when Peter stole the orb and had Yondu and Ronan chasing after him?
The humor is awesome, there’s no bad side dude
My thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (2017)
The Good:
Yondu
Soundtrack
The main characters
Baby groot dancing
Ending
Drax
Emotional moments
Cinematography

I May not agree with your opinion fully, but I respect it.
Yep. Exactly.
I liked what they did with drax where mantis cries and he almost cries when he thinks about his daughter
I actually agree with pretty much everything you said. However, Yondu's death is one of the saddest moments in the mcu
I still cant get over that those side burns 😂 but they still look sick tho keep rocking it Sean!
Here after sean watched Volume 3
My score a entertainment level 9.0
This is one of the most entertaining movies of the last few years.
