“Dont think of your solo as a collection of licks, but as a narrative”. That is such a great way to put it.
*Jay does his 2 note solo*
Me in my truck: "you son of a b****!!" 😅
I just paused the video at this part out of disbelief, had to go to the comments- can’t BELIEVE he got that many sounds out of 2 notes 🤣
That's the real deal stuff. If people keep putting out videos like that, guitarists are gonna start playing music rather than just trying to play faster and faster
Very positive cat.....the world needs more like j
This might be the most helpful phrasing video I’ve seen yet. Applied this to a gig last night and have never played better. Thank you SO much.
Comment of the day for me! Glad it was able to add to your style, thanks for writing :)
The two notes solo is such a great lesson by itself.
The rest of the video is like opening doors of inspiration. Thank you so much !
the tone 💕
This video has made me look at soloing a whole new way, and I'm so thankful I discovered this channel!
Glad it helps, thanks for writing!
That’s one of the best lessons I’ve ever seen on RUclips. Super helpful. Thanks Jay.
Really appreciate it! Glad it helped :)
You teach along the same lines as David Wallimann.
This style works for me.
So much time is spent on learning scales, chord shapes, etc to try to play better and this video shows that technique is the true master.
Great stuff J
Great perspectives in this video, thanks for sharing Jay!
Fantastic lesson!
Just mega awesome!
This is the greatest video on RUclips.
Absolutely awesome Jay!! 🥳👍🏻
This is really great! Thank you.
Great lesson! thank you✨🙏✨
Great tips Jay, I love how you made this so easy to understand without any music theory required. Thinking of the solo as having different characters/traits is a really cool way to think about it. I had fun jamming along, thanks!
thanks for a wonderful video Jay!!!
That wa just awesome, inspired me to play more and to try what you just told!
brilliant lesson thanks Jay
Man, I'm diggin' that funky groove there Jay... love how you play off the beat and yeah that's a swing kind of thing that not everyone can do so easily... but I love it! Great video as always! 😎🎸🐦🤘
your such a killer player Jay, great lesson and such a neat way of breaking down a solo narrative. You're the best!
Wow, that was amazing!
This might be the greatest concept and lesson ideas. Thanks for making this Jay! Even helpful for bass as I started playing bass.
So inspiring! And God that Strat looks and sounds so killer. Maybe the greatest strat tone I’ve ever heard. The Imperial with that strat may be Gods tone. Great reminder it’s all about musicality, feel and tone. Thanks so much Jay!
Dig it, man. J, your infectious joy and love for music and guitar makes people want to learn from you.
Amazing lesson!
Brilliant!
It helps knowing exactly where your fingers are going, too! 😊
Great playing as always, J.
Dude you have the best energy, I love your videos, you make everything fun! Thank you for what you're doing :)
Brother Jay. Awesome ideas for me. Thank you this will help me as a player of 1.5 years on electric
This is such a gem of a lesson! Makes me wanna jam right now!! Yes story telling on guitar!!
Common Jay! What a piece of advice you put in your videos. Ur the man! Cheers from Chile. Thank u for the content
Finally a guitar lesson that makes sense. I'm not surprised it was you putting it together, you truly are an amazing musician!
Thank you for making it very simplified. Us beginning need that
Great job. That is one epic amp you got there.
Jay, Your Enthusiasm is contagious!
I'd say you're underselling your amazing technique / rhythm a bit, but still an eye-opening and encouraging video. Great work.
Such great advice
Good stuff!
Brilliant! 2 note solos FTW!
This is probably the best soloing lesson I've found im RUclips so far..
I've been soloing by expanding notes array, but here the approach is a totally different way.. so exciting!
Really appreciate it! Hope the advice can help expanding on all the techniques you've been working on :)
Ahh, glasshoppa, It's a Zen thing. Less is more.
I've always liked solos that just drip emotion far more than an entire song that's just blistering arpeggios.
Great video.!. 👍👍
I appreciate it :)
Superb! One of the most helpful metaphors I’ve heard for soloing. Tuck Andress told me that guitarists often overlook their secret weapon of rhythm, and spoke of himself as being a fan of the one-note solo. You’ve given not just a paradigm for soloing, but a purpose. Thanks so much!
Nice one brother! That's what I'm talking about! Less is more! ❤
Wow what a great video on soloing! The best solos I've ever played is when i had a story in mind I was trying to convey. Another thing you demonstrated about soloing is s p a c e. When I first started to solo, I tried to fill every moment with a note. But by being courageous and not playing, you make some amazing music. Thanks for sharing this. I really enjoy the joy you show in your playing.
You’re such a beast Jay!! This is so inspiring...thank you.
Really appreciate it!
Perfect lesson and nice playing!!
Thanks a lot!
Inspiring!
Tremendously helpful! Thank you!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching :)
Great stuff Jay! Creating characters in your solo's narrative is a great concept.
Hope it helps!
This was a very enlightening and helpful lesson! Thanks for demystifying what can seem so complicated and technical. As always, your enthusiasm is contagious!
My pleasure!
You are an excellent teacher!
Thanks :)
One of THE best teaching videos I have ever come across. Jay, you ARE music and melody and your teaching style connects so beautifully. Thank you!
Really appreciate it!
That Strat is gorgeous!
It's a stunner :)
Ang galing nito. Woww!!!
Great lesson. 👍
Thanks! 😃
Always cheers me up watching you play guitar Jay, excellent demo, 👍
Thanks :)
Really nice! Tx as always! Your enthusiasm definitely adds and the content is always so helpful.
Really glad you enjoy it! Rock on :)
Amazing!!!
amazing video, honestly !!
Thank you!
fantastic exposition - beyond being an awesome guitarist, you are a natural teacher... many thanks!
Really appreciate it :)
Daaaamn I got goosebumps! You're a phenomenal player :D
I really appreciate it! Hope it helped :)
Yeah man! That's how I want to do it. You are a natural teacher. Just found you last night and played this one first thing this morning. Subbed. Thanks SO much brother.
I really appreciate it! Thanks so much for subbing :)
This is great! Who doesn’t wanna play like Jay!
Gotta definitely put some of this into practice tonight!
Good luck! Hope you get some inspiration out of it :)
Greattttt video man!!
Really appreciate it!
Loved, loved, loved this. This will get me out of my rut like nothing I've ever thought of doing. Great lesson my friend!!!
Thanks so much!! Happy exploring :)
Dang!!!!! Best lesson ever. Finally, a solo lesson that makes sense!!! Do you do online lessons?? If so, take my money!
Jay is awesome!
Thanks man!
Good advice Captain Canada!
haha, thanks!
Nice seeing the lesson videos! Always really liked learning from you, Lenny!
Based on your chops and killer lesson vids, you definitely don't need my help any more 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥 Really great to hear from you!!
@@JayLeonardJ haha thanks! But not true, my soloing is pretty bad hehe, also still a long way towards developing the kind of touch that you've got!
That's baby makin music right there. Nice.
Haha, thanks!
I really appreciate this take on music. All the blues greats of old have awesome music but really simplistic, basic, and fundamental understandings of the guitar. Somehow, their music has influenced generation after generation. I'm not a full-time musician and even as an amateur/hobbyist I don't have a lot of time to practice scales. Utilizing what I know in the time I have is exactly what I need.
Right on! I really hope this gives you some new ideas and takes your playing to the next level.
Jay. You and Chris Buck are both the best guitar players in the world. So much feel and passion in every note. Thanks for sharing your playing with us.
I really appreciate it. Chris is a beast!!
Best soloing lesson i've ever Seen on YT!!! 🤩...you're a so inspiring Guy!!!
Please make lessons on chords progressions that rocks!!! More lessons please!
Have You ever tought of selling guitar courses?
You Can take all of my Money! 🤑...
Take Care J Leonard!
very useful...thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Glorious looking strat ❤
Yeah, that one is a stunner!
Tell Em’ !! Can’t wait to play again one day brother :)
Miss you man!!! We will jam together again!!
This is gold
Really great lesson. I've even made lessons out of your gear demos!
Awesome, Rock on!
Damn cat! This is a darn good lesson...spot on🤘
Really appreciate it!
amazing 2 notes
so freaking helpful.... this changes my entire thought process and should make my playing more interesting.
Hope it helps! Thanks for watching :)
@@JayLeonardJ totally blew my mind. Just a small change in thought and things sound different and more interesting Thanks!!
Jay you’re the man!
Thanks!
Good lesson
Thanks :)
Jay is such a class act and monster guitar player. Thank you. Love your videos (demos/lessons). I make a point of buying products from companies that are behind you.
That means a lot. I really appreciate you watching the videos and supporting the page! Rock on :)
amazing as always :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Jay is a great songwriter!!!
Thanks brother :)
Jay - this was really fantastic. Non-intimidating and easy-to-digest. I'm actually Teaching-someone-guitar and I believe . . ."This" - will be his Ah-Ha moment ( when the light bulb goes on ). Great communication brother. oNe LovE from NYC
I truly hope that it helps make your student take that next step! Rock on :)
Jay, please do more lessons. If only you done this on RUclips and your web site. This would be so big for you. Truly.
I've been thinking of doing a course for a while. Maybe that should be the next project! Thanks :)
Great lesson. My wife gets upset any time I “repeat myself”. So today I got a good guitar lesson and justification for repeating myself next time my wife and I have a disagreement. Guitar master and marriage counseling.....you are a man of many talents.
Amazing work, 2 note solo has me reevaluating my life 😂
Woooow what a nice Video my friend! I actually use a Tone King Imperial MKII and a CS strat with the tomatillo PUs as well, great taste we have ;p
Great minds think alike ;)
Go Rufus!
They are legends there :)
That 2 note solo was pretty great
You’re da man!
Yeah! Thanks man!
You should buy that strat.
Sounds as good as your tele!
