The variety in your videos on this channel is fast becoming the go to for base jumping quality content. From walk along and storytelling to details for the nerds. Looking forward to your talk about packing the rig. Stay safe :)

Really means a lot to hear that dude. It’s certainly gonna continue being a learning experience. And I’m really trying to stay in my lane as far as the subject matter I can/should touch on given my current experience goes. But there’s so much magic in this sport, so much information buried in the experiences of old veteran jumpers and the corners of BASE forums from the 90s, so many opportunities to creatively capture and share this sport. If I can share even a fraction of that for the better, that’s what I’m after.

So what if you are jumping alone? or is that not recommended?

It’s not necessarily ‘not recommended’, but it is certainly more dangerous for a variety of reasons (primarily when a time dependent injury could result in permanent injury or death and searching for your unconscious body is closing that window rapidly). That said, many jumpers frequently jump solo, whereas others (myself) only have a couple solo jumps under their belt. Notifying others of your whereabouts via coordinates, other jumpers who are familiar with the area, messaging others immediately before and after exiting, are all good safety practices that minimize many (not all) risks jumping solo.
I can only speak for myself in the protocol I follow on solo jumps:
My gear is checked twice before gearing up: first check follows immediately after packing and before placing my rig in my stash bag. After hiking/climbing to the exit I pull my rig out, stash all the gear I don’t need, with only my helmet and rig laying out before me. I then check my rig for the second and final time immediately before gearing up.
The only difference here as opposed to having another jumper present would be a third gear check immediately prior to jumping, which you can think of as a second set of ‘unbiased’ eyes not as familiar with your gear, looking for the bare bone points of danger, bridal routing, pins, PC.
If you are a very new jumper and still uncertain of the points of danger your gear can pose if not routed correctly (where your packing method still feels inconsistent) it’s probably safe to assume not having a third gear check by another more experienced jumper is exponentially more dangerous.
But if you’re jumping the same gear, inspecting it for wear, packing consistently, routing consistently, ensuring your gear checks are remaining diligent and thorough, and gearing up in a consistent order without allowing any breaks in routine, I don’t believe removing a single gear check would pose a concerning increase in the probability of misrigging. I personally stray away from solos because of the first points I mentioned; immediacy of being tended to in an emergency situation.
This comment got way too long..
