Pigeon cave exit in Wales. Sketchy exit followed by short canopy ride. After the jump I felt canopy moving frrvard, significantly shortened my canopy time.
Found your channel the other day and been watching quite a few of your jumps, click on this one and to my surprise I know exactly where you are which I really did not expect! Been there many times and live not far away. Pretty funny. Where are you based?
@baseinspiredtravels lol he was a nutter, but I admired his courage, and got to say goodbye before they turned off his life support, we climbed together, and once I climbed Bluff Mountains ⛰️ in the Warrumbungles Australia, he BASE JUMPED IT and fell past me at 200 meters, he was so close to me i could have reached out and touched him.......he shouted HI GUYS 😆 🤣
@baseinspiredtravels I wrote this poem about him Flight of the Phoenix The Warrumbungles is the lands name My mate and I are here to play a game With the grim reaper we will compete With some trepidation we hope to defeat This mountainous place is very old A shield volcano or so I’m told I’ve come to climb the biggest bluff Roland’s here to do that Base-jumping stuff An adventure classic we’ve come to scale Jump off the top, through the air Roland will sail This country is wild and remote with many tall trees The visions of Rocks and Eagles will always please A long walk ahead to reach the hill With heavy packs, we know the drill We reach the saddle that is our base Set up the tents and clear some space In the evening round the fire we sit Checking our gear and the rest of the kit Of previous adventures we talk through the night In the morning our aspirations will all take flight Tis early morning in our little camp The air is cool and the ground is damp We get up for an early start With a shake of the hands for good luck we depart Up the walking track Roland goes When he’ll jump off only he knows My second Simion and I head off to the Climb We hope we arrive in plenty of time The base of the mountain is a mass of scree Large rocks and boulders as far as you see We look up the mountain spying our line This place is scary but we hope we’re fine Roland is up there but we can’t see him yet He’s spying his landing and just getting set The ground is broken and very rocky We hope that this time he’s not too cocky We start to ascend, with hearts a thumping Pretty soon now Roland will be jumping Climbing this cliff involves scaling large blocks No room for mistakes leading these rocks Half way up the second pitch One of my ropes, the bastard it sticks Untie the knot and continue climbing The belay is reached with good timing Bring up Simion to the Phoenix tail Now we are here we can’t afford to fail From our safe perch, we look down The exposure we see makes us both frown Next we traverse the Phoenix’s belly Fear makes my legs feel like jelly I find a small ledge from which to belay Bring across Simion without delay As I am sitting a body falls past It says Hello and leaves me aghast It was that Roland, still in free fall His canopy explodes, what a good call
Its midday now and thirty plus Our water is gone, but we can’t fuss The sun is strong and burns our necks The rocks at the top are still small specks The doubt can creep up, but we must keep going Are we off route? Is my fear showing? Finding the way is the difficult bit We must get to the top before we can sit Many hours pass and God we are dry I want to get off I wish I could fly Finally after nine hours A glimpse off the top, our spirit empowers Over the top just a short walk With some campers we stop and talk They are kind and give us a drink About this offer we didn’t even think Back to camp seems a long while Must get down no reason to smile Finally I arrive and fall to the ground My heavy breathing is the only sound Getting some water is my only thought My body is exhausted my mind is fraught Pack up the camp I must get going At Balor’s hut the water is flowing The pain of thirst makes my Phoenix fly On with the pack to run I’ll try A long run down, finally a drink I sit on my pack flushed and pink
After the short stop I must go Back to the car, can’t be slow Mates are waiting for me to arrive My phoenix has risen I will survive It’s a while later at my home Whilst I am sitting, there goes the phone The call is about Roland my base-jumping mate He has hit the deck in Sydney was it fate? His injuries are serious he is barely alive This news is awful will he survive? His back is badly broken, so are both legs Also there’s trouble he’s broken the rules and regs We visit him in his hospital bed My God he’s lucky he should be dead There’s a question will he ever walk? We know Roland would have none of that talk Roland gets out of hospital after a very long while His prognosis is bad but he can still smile He is determined to prove them all wrong And sets about recovery and it’s doesn’t take long In less than a year he is jumping again Despite paralysis and lots of pain His spirit is unshaken despite this trauma His Phoenix is rising, as his fires get warmer It’s a few years later, I’m writing more verse The news I’ve been given couldn’t be worse I have lost a wonderful pal Whilst jumping in China his chute had a mal Something went badly and now he’s gone He’s with other brave souls soaring along He called me his friend, of that I am proud I’ll take pride in his valor; I’ll shout it out loud For those who think Roland was unwise Should think of how man first reached the skies Nothing great comes without the braves Without mans courage we’d still be in caves Roland was a pioneer, one of the best He just wasn’t happy following the rest Who knows what good will come of his sport? He survived didn't he, even though it was the most dangerous base jump I've ever seen, I'd say it went perfect considering the circumstances, though dude is crazy af
Wow that was close to the grass verge , you were inches from disaster. One of the sketchiest base jumps I have seen in a long time! Stay safe!
You’re probably the only person who will ever do that jump. Must be a cool feeling
Not the only one. This jump has been done many times ;;)
Wft
Title wasn’t lying. Very sketchy indeed

The next generation of base jumping: 3.7m sketchy jumps XD
As sketchy as it comes, my good friend Roland Simpson SLIM, would approve, mind you he's dead
I remember started skydiving and, when skydivingmovies server was in use, I watched tribute to him. He must have been cool guy.

@baseinspiredtravels I wrote this poem about him
Flight of the Phoenix
The Warrumbungles is the lands name
My mate and I are here to play a game
With the grim reaper we will compete
With some trepidation we hope to defeat
This mountainous place is very old
A shield volcano or so I’m told
I’ve come to climb the biggest bluff
Roland’s here to do that Base-jumping stuff
An adventure classic we’ve come to scale
Jump off the top, through the air Roland will sail
This country is wild and remote with many tall trees
The visions of Rocks and Eagles will always please
A long walk ahead to reach the hill
With heavy packs, we know the drill
We reach the saddle that is our base
Set up the tents and clear some space
In the evening round the fire we sit
Checking our gear and the rest of the kit
Of previous adventures we talk through the night
In the morning our aspirations will all take flight
Tis early morning in our little camp
The air is cool and the ground is damp
We get up for an early start
With a shake of the hands for good luck we depart
Up the walking track Roland goes
When he’ll jump off only he knows
My second Simion and I head off to the Climb
We hope we arrive in plenty of time
The base of the mountain is a mass of scree
Large rocks and boulders as far as you see
We look up the mountain spying our line
This place is scary but we hope we’re fine
Roland is up there but we can’t see him yet
He’s spying his landing and just getting set
The ground is broken and very rocky
We hope that this time he’s not too cocky
We start to ascend, with hearts a thumping
Pretty soon now Roland will be jumping
Climbing this cliff involves scaling large blocks
No room for mistakes leading these rocks
Half way up the second pitch
One of my ropes, the bastard it sticks
Untie the knot and continue climbing
The belay is reached with good timing
Bring up Simion to the Phoenix tail
Now we are here we can’t afford to fail
From our safe perch, we look down
The exposure we see makes us both frown
Next we traverse the Phoenix’s belly
Fear makes my legs feel like jelly
I find a small ledge from which to belay
Bring across Simion without delay
As I am sitting a body falls past
It says Hello and leaves me aghast
It was that Roland, still in free fall
His canopy explodes, what a good call
Its midday now and thirty plus
Our water is gone, but we can’t fuss
The sun is strong and burns our necks
The rocks at the top are still small specks
The doubt can creep up, but we must keep going
Are we off route? Is my fear showing?
Finding the way is the difficult bit
We must get to the top before we can sit
Many hours pass and God we are dry
I want to get off I wish I could fly
Finally after nine hours
A glimpse off the top, our spirit empowers
Over the top just a short walk
With some campers we stop and talk
They are kind and give us a drink
About this offer we didn’t even think
Back to camp seems a long while
Must get down no reason to smile
Finally I arrive and fall to the ground
My heavy breathing is the only sound
Getting some water is my only thought
My body is exhausted my mind is fraught
Pack up the camp I must get going
At Balor’s hut the water is flowing
The pain of thirst makes my Phoenix fly
On with the pack to run I’ll try
A long run down, finally a drink
I sit on my pack flushed and pink
After the short stop I must go
Back to the car, can’t be slow
Mates are waiting for me to arrive
My phoenix has risen I will survive
It’s a while later at my home
Whilst I am sitting, there goes the phone
The call is about Roland my base-jumping mate
He has hit the deck in Sydney was it fate?
His injuries are serious he is barely alive
This news is awful will he survive?
His back is badly broken, so are both legs
Also there’s trouble he’s broken the rules and regs
We visit him in his hospital bed
My God he’s lucky he should be dead
There’s a question will he ever walk?
We know Roland would have none of that talk
Roland gets out of hospital after a very long while
His prognosis is bad but he can still smile
He is determined to prove them all wrong
And sets about recovery and it’s doesn’t take long
In less than a year he is jumping again
Despite paralysis and lots of pain
His spirit is unshaken despite this trauma
His Phoenix is rising, as his fires get warmer
It’s a few years later, I’m writing more verse
The news I’ve been given couldn’t be worse
I have lost a wonderful pal
Whilst jumping in China his chute had a mal
Something went badly and now he’s gone
He’s with other brave souls soaring along
He called me his friend, of that I am proud
I’ll take pride in his valor; I’ll shout it out loud
For those who think Roland was unwise
Should think of how man first reached the skies
Nothing great comes without the braves
Without mans courage we’d still be in caves
Roland was a pioneer, one of the best
He just wasn’t happy following the rest
Who knows what good will come of his sport?
History takes time to acknowledge his sort
To my brave mate, Roland the Rat Simpson
