Three lead singers and they are all top notch. Many, many hits back in the day, there's a lot to uncover with Three Dog Night!
🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Yea don't know how they came up with that name because there's not a dog in that band
Easy To Be Hard from the Broadway Musical "Hair" is about Humanity being cold or hard to Humanity!!!!
Like the Republicans? Yup....
Eli's Coming.....Girl you better hide your heart, your broken heart....Great song and the voice, owh that Chuck Negron can sing
One of my favorite bands. .check out Eli's Coming or I've Never Been to Spain.
Out in the country is thir best ! so haunting and sensuous at the same time!
Other Three Dog Night gems:
Shambala
Joy To The World
Family of Man
Mama Told Me Not To Come
Don't forget "Out in the Country".
They have a song called one is the loneliest number
That's the second most depressing Three Dog Night song
@@kenrutherford1109 I never thought of it that way, to me it is a beautiful song- one of my favorites☺ Great lead vocals, by Chuck Negron☺
“ Chuck Negron has an amazing ‘blue eyed soul’ voice. This song is taken from the 1969 Broadway musical called ‘Hair’. Then ten years later in 1979 the famous play was made into a film with a Treat Williams , Beverly D’Angelo & John Savage. There is a scene in this film when the whole cast are singing and dancing atop one of the World Trade Center Towers.”
Still get goosebumps when I hear this, decades after it was recorded....
Three dog night was as good as anyone
This is one of many good songs from the rock musical "Hair."
yep a great song from a great musical. Three Dog Night had the great cover.
This is the most depressing song I've ever heard in my whole life.
Haven’t heard this song in so many years!! Amazing how these songs are relevant today!
Danny, Chuck and Corey one of my favorite bands from late 60s to mid 70s. The name came from Australia. On cold nights they would sleep with their dogs to stay warm. A 3 dog night was a freezing night. 🤔🤗😎
One of the best groups from the 1960's and 1970's. They need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
I heard this on the radio in 69, loved it then still do. Beautiful song! Thing is the 3 singers are great. I suggest reviewing more of their hits. Try a little Tenderness, Eli's Coming, Shambala, Never been to Spain and Joy to the World. Keep up the good work. Seasons greetings!
Love it when he does the lyrics...you know I'm hung up on You just gets me every time!
Three Dog Night were HUGE from the late 60s to the mid 70s. So many great songs.
Another song from "Hair" that was incredible, was a tune called "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In". The 5th Dimension made a big hit out of it. Check out the movie "Hair". It's considered one of the best musical films of all-time.
It's more about the whole world and the perception which keeps them trapped in lying, but even if it's the wish of all to live a life of happiness you just create everything , for you only care to win!
The singer is Chuck Negron. Saw him sing this live in West Palm Beach, Fla back in 1974. Three Dog Night was a really good band and they put on a great show.
These guys are one of my all time favorite groups. Great voices and great musicians backing them up. Thank you for sharing.
Great song from one of my favorite groups!
Chuck Negron was one of the best singers ever. Big fan, had many hits. This and Elis Coming are my favorites. What made this group great there was 3 great singers, took turns singing lead.
BOY! Does this take me back. I haven't heard this song since I was a kid.
Great reaction to 3 Dog Night!!!! Another one of their Classics is Black & White. Enjoy!!!
IF YOU LIKED THIS, CHECK OUT CHERYL BARNES' VERSION FROM THE MOVIE "HAIR", PEOPLE ACTUALLY STOOD UP, CLAPPED ,AND CHEERED IN THE MOVIE THEATER.
That version always gives me chills.
Came here to suggest that version. The film clip is great too.
For newcomers, "Captured live at the Forum" is a great early TDN record and "Around the World with TDN" from a later stage.
Sweet,sweet bass lines.......Aaahhhhhh
The way he holds the last "No" was awesome.
Never Been To Spain, Joy To The World, Pieces of April, Old Fasioned Love Song
Beautiful sentiment and song
This song should be required listening for everyone
beautiful song...glad somebody has finally reacted to this
i loved this song whe. i was just a lil snapper head back when this 1st came out. i can remember being so small in the back seat of the car not being able to see out the side window without standing up. this song made me listen to the lyrics and taught me what music is. it made me so sad because i knew the guy singing the song was hurting bc of bad people being mean. music is my world and everything to me.
Countless great hits to explore..
I'm glad you like the song! Lead singer, Chuck Negron has a great voice as do the other singers, Cory Wells and Timothy Hutton. The end of the song really echoes the feelings and passion of the song's theme! The song was released by Three Dog Night in 1969.It was also in the musical "Hair." (One year earlier). The song came out at a time when the Vietnam was still going on and so many young people (and some older folks too) were against it, protests against the war, riots, violence on campuses, social injustice, the struggles in the early years after Civil Rights laws were enacted. Also, the song is about we all need a friend...and too many of us find it too easy to be "cold"....find it so easy to say "no." and are so "heartless." The song also seems to be a little about an intimate relationship (in the 2nd verse)...admitting he's hung up on someone who's struggling to show him love and understanding. Also, in the chorus he mentions...do you only care about the "bleeding crowd"....which seems to mean a person might care about the suffering overseas, but won't help their needy Nextdoor neighbor. This song, SO packed with heavy lyrical content, reflecting that tumultuous era. Three Dog Night has many great, meaningful songs including: Joy to the World, One, Just an Old Fashioned Love Song, Out In The Country, Mama Told me not to come, Eli's Coming...to name a few. Sadly, we're facing some of the same issues today which makes this song very relevant, more than 50 years later! "Easy to be Hard"....so true.
Oh I was so in love with him!
A classic! This song is from the smash musical “ Hair”.
This is one of my favorites of all their music.
Thank you Jay for reacting and liking this amazing song. I was 6 yrs old when Three Dog Night came out in the early 70's. My family loved them and always had their music playing. ❤🤩👍👍👍✌
Love this song. "Joy To The World" and "Mama Told Me" are fine, but the songs that didn't make it to #1 are better. "Eli", "One", "Pieces Of April", "Family Of Mine", "Til The World Ends"....so many classic songs.
I have this song on my daily playlist... loved it as a young teen and still love it today. Thanks for your reaction, Jayy. Take care and be well. Peace.
Hello Young lady. I think what he's saying, like you said, these people who are so caught up with these social issues don't see the people around them that are hurting.
Absolutely love these guys and have since I was about 9 years old.
I think you’re right on about your second thought, people caught up in causes and blind to those closest. As others said, from Hair, saw it on stage in late sixties.
What’s hair?
@@THEJAYYSHOW Broadway play late 60s, musical, made into a movie.
@@THEJAYYSHOW Please watch the movie HAIR
This song is from the musical Hair. But in the movie Cheryl Barnes sings it and it's on RUclips and I like it much better
These guys were a hit machine in the early 70s. Check out "One", "Black and White", or their cover of "Eli's Coming".
Chuck is really delivering it here.
Just buy that exact album. So many great songs. Legend. That was the 1st record I bought back then.
Do more!!!!!❤️
Blood sweat and tears🔥
Great Top Ten Hit for them in 1969 from the Rock musical Hair. Three Dog Night had many many hit records. Good stuff. ♥️🎼🎶🎵
Hi Jayy, This is a great band from the late 60's and in to the 70's. The song you should listen to is "Joy to the World." Joy to the World was a number one song of theirs. There is three singers who harmonize so good together. I am glad you got a chance to listen to them. Take care and see you in your next video.
Yeah, it's the *second* determination that you made, Jayy -- someone getting so caught uo in a cause that they "ignore their friends" - it thus becomes "easy to be hard."
They were one of my faves in the late sixties and seventies. Always excellent use of a Hammond organ and Leslie cabinet.
"Out In The Country" is a great one from them.
I had forgotten about this song of theirs but it was one of their many big hits in the early seventies that I remember hearing on the radio all the time. Its lyrics make me miss the socially conscious late sixties-early seventies.
I never thought about these songs so deeply. I'm not that complex.
Fantastic song
This song is from the Broadway hippie musical. "Hair". You know the hippies were anti-war, social injustice and other things like that. Sometimes they were so involved in protest marches, etc., they forgot to be kind to each other.
You hit the nail on the head!
They were a garage-pop band... nice, they had their place....nothing stellar...
I liked them, I never flipped out over them.
Your tree is beautiful! Merry Christmas!
Outstanding, this is really a great song.
Great song from the Broadway show *HAIR*
He's saying dont be a hardass to good people by (social injustice) who they are---rich,poor,, race or class..just be a friend to them..
One of my favorite groups from the 60's and 70's.
"Joy to the World" was their biggest hit.
"One" "Eli's Comin'" ""Celebrate" "Mama Told Me Not To Come" "It's For You" all great Three Dog Night songs that you would totally enjoy...and many more.
To me; I mean, I was just a kid in the late sixties;, but I feel like it was a general song about the Vietnam War and protests that were going on, just in general.
Legendary band. Some don’t take them seriously because they goof
around and write humorous songs. Make no mistake, they’re heavyweights.
THREE DOG NIGHT, "EASY TO BE HARD". SONG WAS FEATURED IN THE PLAY/MOVIE HAIR... SINGER FOR THIS WAS CHUCK NEGRON. ALONG WITH CORY WELLS, AND DANNY HUTTON COMPLETED THIS POWERFUL VOICES OF THIS BAND...ALL THREE SHARE THE LEAD VOCALS ON VARIOUS SONG'S FOR THIS ROCK BAND...
Feeling too much is a curse and a blessing.
The song, Easy to be Hard, is from the rock opera Hair.
You have an insightful interpretation on this song. Thank you, Jayy! 😇
"Easy to Be Hard" is originally from the 1967 rock musical Hair, about the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the late 1960s. A woman sings this song in the musical. Looking up who that was just now, her name was Lynn Kellogg and she passed away from Covid-19 last month: www.nytimes.com/2020/11/13/theater/lynn-kellogg-dead.html Many of the songs from the musical became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement -- "Good Morning Starshine", "Walking in Space", "Aquarius", "The Flesh Failures (Let the Sunshine In)" -- The 5th Dimension scored a number one hit in 1969 with their version of "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In".
Great record, no doubt.
My favorite Three Dog Night song.
Song is from the the great musical "Hair"
At one time Three Dog Night was outselling the Beatles. They were THAT big. They are amazing all the way around
Chest Fever is my favorite song from them.
The live version from At the Forum is cool
One of your best reactions.
So much a relevant song still all these years later!
Songs about him asking why do people have to be so awful to each other ... They are nice till you get to know them and the social injustices we live amongst ...
Great song.. Great reaction.. I just subscribed!
Why is Three Dog Night not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?!?!?!?
My favorite Three Dog Night song is "Black and White."
Today's world! Think about it....
One Man Band is a good one from these guys
That is a great yet under rated song
Once again Jay you have out done yourself.
Even though they were pretty popular in the early 70s they don't half the props they deserve
They’re called Three Dog Night because in Australia the aboriginal people would say it’s so cold tonight it’s a three dog night meaning you need 3 dogs to sleep with to keep you warm at night. This band had a lot of hits🇨🇦🖖🏻💥🥰
Three Dog Night had more top 40 singles between 1969 and 1975 than Elvis and the Beatles. Including 11 top 20, 18 consecutive top 40, and 3 number 1's. The vocalist in this song was Chuck Negron. He has an incredible book out entitled "Three Dog Nightmare". He talks about his terrible heroin addiction, how many rehabs he's gone to, and just how fortunate he is to be alive. He tells how he'd be on tour with the band and would run out of drugs. So he'd charter a private plane, fly halfway around the world to Los Angeles just to meet his dealer so he could get high again. Then fly all the way back to meet the band and continue the tour. Sometimes he'd spend up to $30,000 a day just to get this done. He said that it eventually got so bad, that he lost everything! He went from being a multi-millionaire to flat broke and sleeping on a filthy mattress in an alley on skid row in Los Angeles sharing dirty needles with several other junkies. And yet he never contracted AIDS or hepatitis. He lost his wife an kids due to this. He said he got high because he actually loved getting high. But after all the rehabs had failed, he went to one last one. Chuck said he didn't go there to get clean, he went because he had no place to go. No money, no food to eat, no bed and no roof over his head. The place was called
CRI Help! And by the grace of God, this was the place, and those were the folks that finally helped him help himself! Just a great great book!!!
❤️❤️❤️
I got to see HAIR twice. Both times it was great...
It's been a while since I've seen "Hair" but that Broadway show and recorded musical is where the original version comes from If I remember right, a woman and child found the father in NYC and she wanted him back, but he was very resistant. "You know I'm hung up on you," she sang. She couldn't understand how he could care so much about social and political issues while ignoring/denying his own family. Great reaction to a song from another era. Thanks.
Oh-oh say can you see my-y eyes; If you can, then my hair's too short. (Sung to the tune of The Star Spangled Banner (sort of)).
This was a song from the stage musical HAIR . This was both an exploitation of the hippie scene - making a commodity of it , and in a way a very authentic snapshot of the times , the issues . None of it resolved , really . Anyway , you can hear the passion of the times in this song .
That voice is lead Chuck Negron. I admire that after almost destroying his life from drugs he quit heroin if I'm not mistake. That's something that you never hear much from kicking that addiction. The video of Cheryl Barnes singing the (Hair) version is a favorite as well.
If you are going to do great groups out of the 70's you should play live performances. They will be just as good as studio and you will get to see the performance. These guys could stand up and just sing and give you a thoroughly enjoyable experience because they had fun while performing plus all three of these guys are are top singers
I've got them in my 3 cd rotation.
Not about a relationship, this song is about mankind and the tendency for people (and ease) to ignore those in need.
During this time of year you may want to try 'Joy to the World' from 3 Three Dog Night. Even though it is not a Xmas song it still fits well.
Please check out another hit from them- Black and White(my 2nd grade class had to learn this song back in the day and sing this in assembly, prolly in '72)
3 lead singers sharing the mike
