My final note. Sidious had other reasons to fear Dooku. Unlike his other apprentices, Dooku was a finished product and a peer and rival in every sense. Dooku was groomed to become Jedi Grand Master and was only eclipsed by Yoda in knowledge of the Light Side. He was an accomplished diplomat and political leader. Dooku was an immensely popular and effective Head of State. Dooku already had a detailed knowledge of the Dark Side before he ever met Sidious. Combine these traits and you have a mirror image of Palpatine and a true rival.

I understand what you say on a storytelling point of view, but Dooku makes attacks that if undefended would surely kill, so the intent to murder can be assumed. That can be said of any Star Wars character, including the Jedi, and that is most evident considering Force users are hardly seen wearing armour.

Something else to note is that Dooku also got the holocron of Darth Andeddu, if he'd kept it, instead of delivering it to his Master, he would have learned essence transfer. With access to cloning technology and the wealth to fund it, Dooku could have taken his eight decades of experience in the Light and Dark and placed it inside a body in its prime.
With his control of the CIS, his Dark Side Acolytes and the ever present trump card of being able to reveal Sidious, Tyranus had the best opportunity to take over the Sith...but he made the mistake of remaining loyal.

He was supposed to tempt Anakin to the dark side instead of trying to kill him. I am not saying that Anakin wasn't powerful but just like Vader later on when fighting Luke on the second death star, he wasn't fighting to kill Luke at all. Dooku was fighting at full strength after he took out Obi-Wan because it said Dooku was fighting for his life after anakin became angered.

There is that, though it's also worth noting that per the novelisation, he was actually shocked at Anakin's power. Remember, Anakin's Form V Djem So was the perfect counter to Dooku's Form II Makashi - basically, raw power and speed versus extreme precision and technical skill. Defence, and offence, through superior skill. Once Anakin closed that gap, and had the advantage of youth and physical ability (because even pre-Vader, Anakin is a physical powerhouse), he could just batter through Dooku's defences.

In the clone wars we see the perfect example of a good villain in Count Doku!
He is powerful in physical combat, has mastered strong force abilities such as force lighting but he also has immense political power. His intelligence allows him to execute complicated but not convoluted political plots that often succeed despite our hero's best efforts and when things go south he himself shows up and drastically changed the balance of power, turning it into his favour.
His charm and elegant fighting style add a very cool superficial layer to all this.
But most importantly Doku has a point. He isn't a villain because he is evil, or because he got corrupted. He had good intentions and in pursuit of these he didn't fall to the dark side but choose to embrace it as a necessary evil
Note how he never got sith eyes or any of the other features of those who give in to the dark side. Doku has none of those because he remained in control and used the dark side as a means to an end. If not for Sidious he may well have ended up reforming the republic or forming a new and better one. Certainly bloodshed would have been part of this and the Jedi would not have approved but he didn't need them and he was right about the effects of corruption on the republic and just how broken the system was. Unlike Sidious however he intended not to exploit it for his own power but the reform/replace it with what he saw as a better system.
Only if a villains motives make sense. And perhaps in a way they are right/have at least a valid point (they can still be evil, Doku clearly is he constantly torchers and murders people and started a war with hundreds of millions of casualties) can they become truly good villains the audience enjoys seeing. That add to the story more then just being a counter weight to the Hero's

Honestly I believe that The Clone Wars did both Grievous and Dooku a disservice. They reduced Grievous to a cool-looking incompetent that never gets anything done, because no matter how many compliations of violence people do, TCW is not an adult show and nearly never was brave enough to show actual travesty. There should have been way more episodes on the separatists winning in fights, and arcs ending in the loss of a planet, death of a culture. But since it's a young teen show we nearly never get to see that. Even Umbara wasn't interested in nuance but made it all into "ooooh it was the separatists all along muamuamua" black and white stuff. Awesome arc regardless, but the writing just lacks depth a lot of the times. Filoni wasn't as interested in world building as he was in a very narrow field of characters.
Dooku was handled badly because the show removes nearly all nuance of him and makes him more of an evil sith that just acts cordial and aristocratical. But he never ever shows any notion of good or wants of reformation in the show, he's basically just an extroverted Dracula. Which is a waste because there could absolutely have been an arc about him fighting with his inner demons, realizing he's losing grip of what he actually wants, and convincing himself he's still doing it for the good, while Obi-Wan calls that lie out.
I like TCW but I absolutely believe it is highly overrated. They failed Grievous, they most definitely failed Barriss Offee. And Ahsoka too has one very cringe arc above I believe Ryloth where she loses her team, all in the theme of responsibility, but never actually doing anything else but using the death of soldiers for a teen girl to become "a bit more mature". It felt very ironic and not really appreciative of the clones' lives at all. Of course, bright sides are Obi-Wan, Anakin, despite of that absolutely Ahsoka, Boba Fett, Hondo Ohnaka, Darth Maul, Rex, Asajj Ventress. I personally dislike the clones but I acknowledge that within the confines of how they were handled they weren't done badly per se, they just felt way too juvenile and whimsical to me, so I couldn't take them seriously at all.

Depends on the continuity. In Canon, both of Dooku's apprentices were pretty mediocre when compared to the upper echelons of the Force sensitive beings of the galaxy. In Legends, Ventress defeated Kit Fisto, killed or injured several other Jedi Masters, won a time or two against Obi-Wan Kenobi, and survived a short duel with Mace Windu. It doesn't matter that it lasted less than a minute, surviving against Mace Windu for any period of time is extremely impressive. Savage didn't exist in Legends, but Sora Bulq (the closest equivalent) was way better. He was a Weequay and former Jedi Battlemaster with many kills and the scars to prove them before his turn to the Dark Side. Battlemaster meaning you have to master all seven forms of Lightsaber combat. Basically, Legends Dooku got the lion's share of apprentices and Canon Dooku got sloppy seconds. Also, TCW/ Disney Canon Ventress is a disgrace to the name.

There is an argument that Dooku is actually a better strict swordsman than Yoda, and certainly Sidious. Think about it: It would take immense skill, unrivaled skill, to fight someone like Yoda on nearly even terms. Yoda is clearly more powerful in the Force and the duel should not have been even close. Think about what Yoda did to Ventress and Sidious to Maul. For Dooku to basically stalemate Yoda means his sword work as so good that he overcame the gap in Force power. Most impressive. Also take into what Dooku did to Anakin and Obi-Wan on Oba Dia, when those two were at their peak, is also incredible.

It’s why Quinlan Vos, Sora Bulq and Deepa Billaba were incapable of properly mastering Vaapad, cause when utilizing Vaapad, they would either give into, or in Deepa’s instance, be corrupted by dark side.

To me Dooku is the best duelist in the Galaxy and not only that but he's one of the smartest Sith ever because he used his knowledge from the light side in order to channel the dark side in a way that didn't consume him. In my opinion this can result in someone more powerful than somebody that just gets consumed by the rage of the dark side. Dooku knew how to navigate the dark side because of his experience in the force as a whole. He combined that knowledge with his unparalleled lightsaber skills. I think in lightsaber combat he was better than Sidious himself.. He also had a very precise strategic mind, so whatever he wanted to achieve, he did. I wish he and Ventress had better luck so that they could establish their own Sith group of their own. The difference with other sith apprentices is that Dooku was at the level of a Dark Lord of the Sith because of how much he studied the force as a Jedi, therefore Palpatine and Him were destined to clash eventually because of the fact that they were 2 dark lords instead of just 1. That's a mistake Palpatine didn't make with Vader, whom he tortured and repressed as much he could in order to keep him docile to him.

Also, Dooku lost with great difficulty to Anakin at the age of 83 and so he was nearly 30-40 years after his prime which is one of the reasons about why i believe that Dooku was by far the best at lightsaber combat being able to overwhelm much more powerful opponents.

"You can't just go right into the sword fight, so I decided to go back to The Empire Strikes Back of throwing things at each other, even though I knew they were equal to each other, so it was a hopeless gesture and they would've figured that out in two seconds. Darth Plagueis mentioned when Palpatine was younger and Count Dooku was a Jedi that Dooku was someone who was a threat to both of them, suggesting when Dooku was in his prime he was superior to a young Palpatine.
Palpatine was also fearful that when Dooku was initially exploring the dark side he was actually trying to lure him out and kill him, suggesting he wasn't sure that he could beat Dooku if they were to duel at that point. Sideous was stated to consider him and Dooku, so it makes sense that he would be very fearful of Dooku potentially being able to overthrow him.
Yoda never lost to Sideous though. Sideous was fearful of Yoda and tried to flee against Yoda. Yoda also overwhelmed him in his lightsaber duel and had Palpatine on the defensive the entire fight. Even in when Sideous clashed with Yoda in the force, Yoda's tutaminis clearly was starting to overwhelm Sideous. Yoda simply was just standing closer to the edge than Sideous so he fell a greater distance where he couldn't re-engage Sideous, but he was still relatively uninjured. He simply took too long to defeat Sideous so he had to retreat, as Sideous had reinforcements coming.

Yoda kind of stopped fighting not because he couldn't beat sidious physically but because he'd already been beaten politically which is why he went into exile instead of fighting sidious to the death... Yoda's only chance of "Victory" was no longer in a physical fight for even if he beat sidious the Jedi had already been destroyed politically beyond recovery *especially* if he killed sidious.
Maybe if they had somehow captured him there'd be some chance of victory but not if he killed him which is what I imagined must have been the only other way out.... the only points I see where sidious could have been captured were if Dooku turned on him before his fight with Anakin and Kenobi. (It'd be 3 against 1 with sidious tied to a chair.)
Or when Mace was conflicted over killing him... if he had instead cut his hand off then sidious could have possibly been captured.

I’m not feeling this. Dooku did not hold his own against Yoda - it was a short duel by the standards set in other movies. Dooku had to use a diversion tactic and barely escaped with his life. Dooku was never a real Sith apprentice. He was a placeholder for Anakin; a truth he realized far too late, and only after Anakin wrecked him. I agree that Dooku had knowledge about the Dark Side entering into the relationship. I’d love to see how that relationship developed, because Dooku knew who Sidious was even before he formally left the Jedi Order, even before Maul died. (And it’s pretty obvious that Maul also was more a weapon than a true Sith; Palpatine kept most of his secrets.)
Anyway, Palpatine wouldn’t have feared Dooku because, despite the role he assumed, the Count was never actually interested in ruling anything. Just another way he was never a true Sith - he did not covet power. He would have been a perfectly happy servant to power if power was free of corruption. He wanted to actually do what he believed Jedi were meant to do, what they failed to do in following the will of the corrupt Republic: serve the living force, and those in the galaxy with great needs. Dooku had been tricked by Palpatine into believing that their desires aligned, when Palpatine and the Sith got to where he was by literally BEING the corruption!
So Palpatine would’ve known all along that his secret was safe. Because it literally was safe, he took it to his death, even as he stood before the Jedi trained by his Padawan and the bloody CHOSEN ONE, he kept the secret. By that point, the Separatists had clearly lost the war (despite their insane gambit at Coruscant, which had only worked because Palpatine had orchestrated it to eliminate Dooku), and he’d made no attempt to betray Palpatine or even prepare a contingency. He was committed to the cause he’d believed he was fighting, up until the moment he realized he’d been tricked.
And I agree with you that he probably would’ve been a tougher battle for Sidius than any Jedi this side of Yoda, probably even tougher than Mace Windu, but I feel that Palpatine knew (or at least THOUGHT he knew) he could even take Yoda. He believed that the Sith were more powerful than the Jedi, and by the accounts of the Jedi themselves, their power WAS diminished. And if he knew he could take Yoda, then he would’ve known he could take Dooku, especially if he withheld all (or even only most) of the most critical Sith secrets.
I mean, ultimately Dooku was less a rival to Palpatine and more a test for Anakin, that Anakin needed to pass in order to become Vader.

Palpatine DID NOT win the duel against Yoda how can you get that wrong?
He simply bought himself enough time for the clones to come.
Yoda actually forced Sidious to give up the lightsaber duel and rely on the force to try to defeat and even then Yoda overpowered Palpatine in the force, containing his force lightning and pushing him to the edge of the platform, Yoda didn’t have the chance to continue the duel due to his small size which made him fall further after the impact of his force push.

You think when Sidious had these thoughts he followed them up with the second thought; “Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen” ?

He’s not terrified of Dooku, Dooku had a claim at being a slightly better duellist than Sidious but Sidious had him totally outmatched in the force. This is hyperbolic click bait.

I wouldn't even say he's a better duelist than Sidious at all, a canon list has Sidious at 2nd place, while Dooku is at 4th.

I like the way the fights were described in the prequel books. Dooku versus anakin and obi wan was a duel of high energy (especially so once 2 blades were taken up) versus a lifetime of efficiency and self control.
Later when more evenly matched on the “palpatine rescue” dooku simply couldn’t break anakin down any more so it became a duel of old master versus youth rising into his physical peak as a man.
Dooku was a legit threat initial ruse or not but anakin was a war leader with years of experience behind him by then even disregarding the clone wars cartoon canon with all those additional duels, padawan training and troop leadership scenarios.

Yo, Yoda wasn't 100% serious, imho. But it's still impressive. Also, like others wrote, u already did this topic, dude. Also also, Sidious didn't win against Yoda, they stalemated

What are you smoking and can I have some? Yoda lost both duels he was in during the preequals. He lost to dooku and he lost to Sidious in both cases his opponents accomplished all of their objectives and he accomplished none of his.

I absolutely love the count he is definitely my favorite of sidious apprentice he was different that all the others he had he was far more intelligent and calm plus did not allow his emotions to cloud him even vader fell to his emotions clearly
