Original Series: Doctor Who (2005)
#doctorwho #Doctorwhoseries5 #doctorwhoreaction
Rory waiting 2000 years one of the coolest lore's of all time, always makes me emotional how Amy reacts and the story of The Last Centurion
Rory is the GOAT!
And Big Finish even expanded upon his time as the Last Centurion. Rory accidentally becomes the Roman Emperor.
I especially like how it bookends Amy at the start of the season. The first episode of the series, Amy is the girl who waited, and the last episode has Rory being the boy who waited. I really think this is the most perfect season of Doctor Who because of how thoroughly everything ties together in a complicated timey-wimey web.
Rory, setting unrealistic expectations about men for all female whovians.
@@arch1017Peter Capaldi waited 2 billion years for Clara Oswald. Punching through a thirty foot wall of diamond with his bare hands. Technically he’s the GOAT.
But Rory definitely gets the silver!
😂
"Where's the Dalek?"
"It died."
River Song, the woman who made a heartless killing machine beg for mercy.
I love it when a scene has a psychopathic killing machine and a dalek in the same room.
Not surprising, if you think about that she achieved something the entire Dalek species could not...
Here's one of the most deadly and ruthless creatures in the universe, born and raised specifically for killing.
And a Dalek.
Said so coolly & casually.
Leaving everyone onscreen AND watching in no doubt whatsoever of how it died.
@@tophus5583 And then undid it
It's amazing that the traditional wedding thing about something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue fits the Tardis so well, and that Moffat noticed this and used it for the climax of this series. And I think this is possibly the most joyous Doctor Who climax in the new series.
I've been watching Doctor Who since 1980. Tom Baker will always be My Doctor in my heart, but after watching this episode, Matt Smith became my favorite actor to play the Doctor. His monologue at Amelia Pond’s bedside made me believe that the youngest person to play the Doctor was, in fact, an ancient being who had lived hundreds of years. Remarkable performance!
The third Doctor was the Doctor when I was born, but i never knew there were different Doctors other than Tom Baker until he regenerated. I didn't really watch Doctor Who much. It was that British show on PBS. My friend Max was into it and he got me into it. Before Peter Davidson debuted, they started playing all of the old episodes starting with An Unearthly Child. I really liked the old black and white ones. It always makes the cheap special effects look better. I like Matt best as the Doctor, but my favorite era is the 10/Donna era. Jodie and Ncuti are really good as the Doctor, but they suffer from bad writing.
"His monologue at Amelia Pond’s bedside made me believe that the youngest person to play the Doctor was, in fact, an ancient being who had lived hundreds of years." EXACTLY!!
My first doctor was Tennant in his first series but I found out later that there was a series before that. And I basically skipped the Martha series because I thought that had to come after because Donna was in the Christmas special so the episodes where she was the companion had to come after that one right?
Basically I watched a bunch out of order.
However my Doctor, the one who I will always remember as my favourite, is still coming.
And it's going to be a whopper!
Yes, Matt Smith is unsurpassed in how well he managed to portray so well an "old and raggedy man" while looking young and wearing new clothes.
He is amazing at that. It breaks my heart a little.
I love how Moffat can have a hundred juggling balls in the air through the season, then performs such a stunt as this at the end.
And then you realise he's still got some balls in the air, another mystery to solve, and the joy of looking forward to the next act.
Moffat was a Mad Man!!! We are all better for his era as Showrunner!
You know it's a great episode when Chris can't stay in his seat. I love this whole arc so much. Really is my favorite Who era, even with the asterisk for the Tennant years.
if you rewatch the episode with the angels you can see he is wearing his jacket, AFTER having lost it to the angels.... such great writing
I remember at the time of that episode originally going out, people were calling it out as a continuity error, when all along...
@@videoeditorbloke oh yeah, I remember! Because I was one of the few who insisted the show would not commit such a blatant continuity error. Not that I had a good explanation , but I was convinced there was more to it and it felt so good to have been right all the time when this episode aired.
@@videoeditorbloke I wonder if it really wasn’t continuity error and they wrote it in later though
Not a chance - definitely the kind of detail Moffat would put into such a timey-wimey script! Also, they'd have filmed the scene where he talks to Amy in the forest in this episode when they filmed the Angels episodes (which was the first thing they filmed), so it had to be all planned from the start.
Disguising a plot point as a continuity error is brilliant!
Rory's part was SO much more than we knew at the start of the season and his relationship with Amy - I loved that you felt it too.
This 2-Part Finale is one of the most satisfying, well-crafted Finales in the whole series.
Series 5 to me is two major things together. One, it is overtly a fairytale story. Two, it is a redemption story for The Doctor.
When we first meet 9 in "Rose" he is something of a homewrecker, stealing Rose away from her life, ruining her relationship with her boyfriend, damaging her relationship with her mother. 10 carries on this tradition, getting romantically involved, or entangled with many people as he travels through time, leaving a lot of pain in his wake. Indeed, many a-fan agree that 10s real catch phrase was "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." At the start of this series, the 11th Doctor takes on the task of fixing a broken girls life, that includes every facet. He very consciously chooses to mend the dysfunctional relationship between Amy and Rory throughout the middle of the Series from Vampires of Venice through to Vincent and The Doctor.
It's one of the reasons I love Matt Smith's Doctor. He returns him to being The Other. The outsider. The alien presence. He's not some young dashing man. He's an ancient being from another world. One whom we do not fully know the backstory of. One shrouded in layers of mystery. Matt Smith, as the youngest man to EVER play The Doctor, so perfectly embodies the "old man" within. The way he carries himself in some of these scenes, particularly as he sits next to Amelia in her bed, looking so tired and world weary... It's just a beautiful story.
Also the use of the wedding rhyme is just... *chef's kiss* perfection. What a connection to draw.
I love that breakdown. The contrast of Rose and Amy is really interesting and boy I'm just glad we didn't go down that path again.
Great explanations and breakdown!
The 'Gotcha' is a call back from the episode 'The Beast Below' - at the end of that episode, Amy hugged the Doctor and told him 'Gotcha'
Rivers "look me up" was just as Epic as David Tennant in the Library....
Stone Dalek: Fine, let’s see now, River Song, River song….. huh, not in the usual list. Maybe it’s in the really short restricted list…. Ah, there we go, right next… to… Ace. Oh Bugger.
This was a nice reminder that season 5 of the doctor who reboot was one of the best time travel stories ever
“Are you asking?”
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
“No, hang on.”
This scene is the introduction to a Doctor/River version of “A Thousand Years” that broke my heart a decade or so ago. I still watch it occasionally.
"Gotcha." is a call back to the Beast Below when Amy said that to the Doctor.
Also worth remembering is the line "when is a duck pond not a duck pond", which is a reference to the crack in Amy's wall eating things from the universe - including her parents and the ducks from the local duck pond.
Your reaction at the end of this episode is exactly how I felt when I first saw it. And that PERFECT "something old, something new..." makes me want to stand up and applaud every time 🙂
"Something old..." still gives me goosebumps every time I see it.
Arthur Darville / Rory Pond-Williams (aka Beaky) is hands down my favourite Doctor Who companion tied only with Donna Noble. Dashing and throws a good punch. Huzzah for Rory!!!
I too am a huge fan of Ten and Donna, but I'm also very fond of Eleven and the Ponds.
And yes, this was a phenomenal season finale. I loved it when it first aired nearly 15(!) years ago, and I still love it today.
I also did not expect Rory to be the MVP of the season, but I am not complaining. At all. Amy's got herself a keeper.
Fun Fact, when the fez was introduced they were like, "We can't give Matt a fez! He'll never take it off!" So then Moffat said, "So we'll give him a fez, and then destroy the fez!" 😂
This is so funny.
And when a friend went to Morocco she brought me home my very own Fez!
As of this episode, Rory is twice the Doctor's age, and even with the messing about with reality he does keep an amount of the memories, although we don't know how much
Matt Smith's performance when he's sitting by the bed talking to sleeping Amelia is phenomenal. He's the youngest actor ever to play the part but in that moment the Doctor has never felt older, he's ancient and exhausted.
20:03 after the original episode aired, Moffat got a lot of flack for his "error" of the Doctor's coat was missing in this scene. Turned out, the joke was on us 😂
Men, you are adorable.
And River Song's mystery being slowly revealed throughout the seasons is one of the best things I've ever seen in any show! The acting, the writing, the surgically planted clues and threads... sheer delight.
The Doctor's bizarre , epileptic fit dancing at the wedding is my favorite moment among all those other favorite moments in this two parter.
The "drunken giraffe" they called it on set. 😀
When Amelia’s therapist and aunt are talking about the star cults, one says, “I don’t trust that Richard Dawkins.” He’s a renowned British scientist who just happens to have been married to a former DW companion, Lalla Ward, who was also briefly married to Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor who her character Romana was a companion to.
Romana was from Gallifrey...
@@chris...9497And? The relevancy of that being?
@ Just sharing trivia; is that offensive to you?
Whether one only know the reboot Doctors or one knows the Classic Doctors as well, the Companions seem to all be Earthlings, but many forget Romana at least was a fellow Gallifreyan. It's one more interesting/unusual thing about either the character or the actress who played her.
The ultimate prison, won't even let you escape through death.
But oh! How wonderful Rory is ❤
This is my favorite two-parter, and the scene where Amy remembers the Doctor at her wedding is one of my favorite scenes.
Amy used the “gotcha” line to the Doctor at the end of the space whale episode. I think the phrase means more in the UK. In the US gotcha just means “fooled you!”
The next season is my favorite DW season. Many of you River Song questions will be answered (and many more will be raised). 😂
The absolute pure unadulterated joy you exhuded throughout the whole reaction is why I love your Doctor Who reactions 😂 Pretty much always react so hype to my favorite episodes and I’m so glad you’re loving the show so much!
Never clicked a notification faster! This one is my favourite two-part season finale!
I don't think I've ever had comments this fast either. It's a brilliant finale!
@@CasualNerdReactions, we’ve been waiting & watching!
I’m still single because I’m waiting for a Rory Williams. 😂
Roryyyyyyyyy💕
So many great details in this finale. One I’ve not seen mentioned in any other comment- at the wedding when Amy is climbing over the table, all the silverware and whatnot is jangling and it almost drowns out one of my favorite lines- Rory in the background as his memories are returning “I was plastic!?!” 🤣 😂 🤣
Your reaction when the pandorica opened in this episode i think was the reaction everyone had 😂
Also, the episode with the crash of the byzamtium, a lot of people noticed him wearing his jacket when speaking to Amy even though he had lost it prior to that scene. People thought it was an error made by the wardrobe department right up until this episide.
Beautiful little detail included
Just to be contrary (and because I never watch BTS content because ADHD) I'll just assume they got tired of people saying it was a mistake and wrote that scene in for the finale.
I may be wrong, but I believe filming and editing the episodes is always finished before episode 1 was released.
Also, what he says in the scene makes no sense without context of the final episode. What would he be referring to and reminding her to remember about
Yes! It was a great detail that I would have never noticed, but it's perfect really. One of my patrons shared portions of the script that includes in meticulous detail the close ups and the look to the left (for future plot). The planning of this show is really great.
@CasualNerdReactions especially as that was the first episode that was filmed. Episode 1 was filmed later.
@@viwererschoice4454 It was planned. The dialogue proves that.
This reaction was priceless! 🤣
Rory's journey always makes me emotional, he loves Amy so much he waited and protected her for 2000 years. They are by far my favorite companions, for their stories but also because is the first time in this new era that we have sort of two companions consistently during the whole season (or one and a plus one, since Amy is the main character and he is Mr. Pond)
Patiently waiting for the special and season 6!
I just watched the special!! I had such a good time. It took all my restraint to focus on editing yesterday because I just wanted to watch more Doctor Who episodes.
I love this story. Completely mad, epic, and about as timey-wimey as you can get - and yet, in the end, the whole thing (just about) works. It's glorious, everyone who worked on the show at this time working at their absolute peak.
One of the best two parters in the Matt Smith Era. Steven Moffat’s story arcs in the Matt Smith Era is one of the most intricate, compelling and complex's ever in the show. There’s plenty of emotion, scares and intrigue.
I love your excitement over this show!! My daughter is the same way. She's seen snippets of it since she was born and for some reason latched onto this two-parter as her 'favorite'. She's old enough now to sit and pay attention, so we've started from Eccleston and she's thrilled!
What an andventure awaits ahead of her.
Not gonna lie, i'm a bit envious.
Cheers.
@danielaferrari1380 oh I'm so excited. She's obviously been spoiled to major plot points, but it's all good. She already loves River (our dog is named Melody lol), and I don't know if her favorite is 'the Harry Potter doctor' or 'the bow tie doctor' lol...she's still on good old Ears, so we will see! 😆
You've probably been told at some point during this series, but '26062010' was actually the broadcast date of The Big Bang - 26th June 2010. All very well planned out is Moffat Who, not just thrown together, you know.
Also I love that you immediately recognized the scene from the angels episode and it blew your mind 😅 It’s one of my favorite things how the show can just plant things in episodes way before they’re explained and you don’t even notice that much and then you’re like WHOA! So good
I don’t know why, but every time Amy says “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” I just start crying.
River’s response to the fez is one of my favorite moments of the whole show.
Rory is one of my favorite companions of all time.
Yes! Rory is a legend all his own.
5:12 the hysterical laughter followed by the AHH excitement overload was the best reaction I could’ve hoped for 😂🤣 One of my absolute favorite stories, Moffat is the best
Series 5 is my favorite overall series of the show too, it’s so good and the overarching story is fantastic.
Also, Rory is one of my all time favorite companions: loyal, brave, compassionate, and so much more. And Rory and Amy’s love story is so beautiful.
This episode was a thrilling culmination, and it looked like you felt that too! All the ingredients from the season baked and we ended with an incredibly delicious cake, and I have to give Moffatt his credit there - the looping back and intertwining of the now with what we had already experienced was like the Blink episode from series 3 on steroids. The use of the wedding rhyme as the key to restore the universe had been poised from the very first episode, and I was cheering full-throat in my little living room in 2010 as Amy yelled, “I remember you Raggedy Man, and you are LATE FOR MY WEDDING!” and marched up and over the table.
I went on the same journey as you over Rory, and by this point felt so warm towards him. I had been so used to the Doctor and ONE companion at a time, but Rory (especially after the punch and the “She is to me!!” line) now felt so integral to the Doctor/companion relationship I couldn’t imagine the show without him, even with his penchant of dying in every episode to only then become immortal as the Lone Centurion.
And River Song, promising that soon everything would change when they next met…! Waiting again till 2011 for more was torture!
It all worked so well for me! Except maybe the you may kiss the bride joke, although it gave the doctor a chance to cement his growth and appreciation of Rory. But that's gotta be all of us after his 2000 year protection. A lot to look forward to still!
They packed a whole lot of excitement into this finale, it’s great, and if you’re a fan of that then you’ve got a lot more to come over the next series.
I really can't wait for more!
“Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something blue!”
That moment you realize every single episode Amy was in, was there to set her up to say this one line.
One of the best finales in the entire show in my opinion. So well done!
I loved it!
Some people talk shit about Moffat, and a lot of people tend to underrate Matt Smith, since he was sandwiched between Tennant and Capaldi, but honestly peak new Who is basically the span where Moffat was showrunner with Matt Smith as the Doctor. Some of the highest quality episodes consistently, with great overarching plot. Solid effects, great music, good cinematography.
Rory is Mickey done right IMO. I always felt the Doctor did Mickey dirty.
I guess he learned from that.
That was my absolute favourite season. My daughter was around 4. We used to cuddle on the sofa and I’d have to explain what the ‘Silly Doctah’ was doing. And to hide when the daleks come on screen.
The surprising thing to me is that, after 4 years where the finale varies between bittersweet and devastating, we finally get a finale with a legitimately happy ending.
This. I loved that about this finale.
My fav is The Doctor and Amy. 11 is the best though River is my fav. She liked many previous companions, saved him. I love how the enemy in this finale was time itself. I also love how Amy and Rory represent more family than friendship.
As i'm rewatching this years later, to coincide more or less with your reactions, when i'm being amazed and astonished (again), i sometimes think "Chris is gonna freak out"! Well, for these last two i thought it quit a few times. Happy to see you were properly "freaked out", in a good way of course.
There’s quite a bit to freak out about with show haha
Really glad you got the second part out fast, it's such a cliffhanger to have to wait through again!
I know that feeling, Matt Smith isn't my favourite Doctor, yet many of my Favourite Storylines are from his Time as the Doctor
I’m so glad you didn’t make us wait for this concluding part.
I love this finale 2-parter. It’s still my favourite one of NuWho. Another one comes close (shhh, spoilers) but this just completely pulls everything in my favourite season together perfectly.
Next up - my favourite Christmas Special. Moff really was firing on all cylinders.
It's funny how he gave Amelia a drink because she was thirsty, but she was only thirsty because he took her drink earlier
Tennant and Tate are my favorite duo too, and Pond and 11 are my favorite seasons.Thank you so much Chris.
That he became the boy who waited, is what makes Rory the absolute loveliest man ever.
ROORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! ❤❤❤
p.s. "You are late for my wedding!" is one of the hero moments of the show, for sure.
I just love the Doctor's goofy dance!
Oh boy the start of my fav doctor joke/outfit. The fez! Fezes are cool!
You can't go wrong with a fex AND a bow tie!
I think I prefer Stetsons.
Your reactions are a much needed piece of joy , thank you for them this is one of my top favourite Dr/companions team.
These last two reactions have made me cry and jump with joy with you. Such a perfect season planned all the way through I absolutely love this season as my favorite season of television ever. ❤
It was really great! I couldn't help myself from binging the last batch so I am so ready to start the next one! It's been too long.
5:11 Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey, Whovian. 9:25 The Man who Waited. No greater LOVE in all of Time.
I started listing my favourite moments of this episode at the beginning. By the middle I had to give up -- there're too many!
That really was one of the greatest season finales in like... ever.
Fun fact The two Amys are played by real life cousins Karen Gillan who plays the older Amy and Caitlin Blackwood plays the younger Amy and this is the first time that they are together
9:38 and another fun fact The voice you hear is Nicholas Briggs He narrated the National Museum video that Amy Pond watches in the episode. He is the voice of the Daleks and Cybermen
@@rebeccawilson6314 I didn’t know that. Cool.
The 5th season of Dr Who was broadcast in 2010.
My daughter was born in 1988, so in 2010 she was 22 years old.
When she was 4 years old, she prayed to Santa Claus for certain gifts after deciding that was a better strategy than praying to Barney the purple dinosaur.
So, this happens, the praying to Santa.
OMG, I got caught up!
DAMN!
Now I gotta wait for new reactions.
The end of this episode is so joyous! Looking forward to your reaction to the Christmas special, which is delightful, and the unravelling of the next part of this complicated story.
Wait no WHAT? I was binging these thinking you were done already and I just realized I am caught up and have to wait now 😭🤣
Oh no 😭. The good news is there’s plenty more on the way. Christmas this week and the two part series premiere next week 🙌
@@CasualNerdReactions looking forward to it very much! Loving your journey so far! Are the early access ones on Patreon full watchalongs or edited?
@milesisediting on Patreon I have a tier that is just early access to the edited videos coming to RUclips and a higher tier that is the full watch along- need your own copy to sync.
@@CasualNerdReactions I might need to look into that because sadly I do not have a Tardis but I dont want to wait!
I love how much you love the Doctor ❤️ This is also one of my favorite seasons. TBH all of the shows with Amy and Rory are 🔥
Definitely the best series finale/wrap-up Doctor who has ever done!
5:06 such a surprise to see her there.
15:32 I love River.
19:46 so epic! Loved how they did this
27:21 lol your joy is great
Great season. Enjoyed your reaction to it
Your reactions never fail to make me happy. Love sharing the joy with you 💙
This is the first time (in the modern series) a season ended without one of the cast leaving!
S1: Christopher Eccleston left
S2: Billie Piper left
S3: Freema Agyeman left
S4: Catherine Tate left
Specials: David Tennant left
Hurrah for keeping the cast for another go!
Moffat tried in the last episode. But he overdid it. Lol.
@@Jimmy_Jones The Pandorica Opens: The Universe left
Silence in the Library was the first time he met River.
It was only after this ep aired that I realised the apple with the face carved it in it was done by Amy’s Mum so it was recent, which meant she’d just lost her parents to the crack but had no memory of them.
I thought Amy bit the one in The Eleventh Hour.
@@judithstrachan9399 Despite The Doctor’s “I hate apples” having requested one, she gives him the second apple with the face in it before they tackle the crack in the wall. He puts it in his pocket saying “I’ll save it for later” and persuades grown up Amy to help him by pulling the same apple from his pocket, from Amy’s perspective, twelve years later.
Looking forward to your reactions to the next series. And yes, everything is about to change.
SILENCE WILL FALL.
I was imagining all kinds of things, like this whole incarnation being wiped out by the reboot and the Doctor being replaced by a *different* Doctor with a different history. But how things worked out was nice!
"We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?" 11 being the fairy tale Doctor is one reason why I love him so much. Top 5 finale for me!!
“Now I have questions but number 1 is this.
What in the name of sanity have you got on your head?
11th: It’s a fez, I wear a fez now, fezzes are cool.”
Followed by the Little Bang.
You realize what this means for the Whonaverse? The saying "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" didn't exist before Big Bang 2. Amy added it to history because that was how she saw the TARDIS, and how it was tied somehow to weddings (or rather her wedding).
Fantastic reaction. It's hands down the best Who series finale, loved experiencing it again through your enthusiasm!
11:21 SO, do you you think he learrned how to play the Time Game from BILL AND TED? 🤪 Excellent! 🎸
OMG I completely forgot about the phone call at the end
also my second favorite finale
That was fast! And just for the record: Rory is awesomeness. Best Doctor Who finale (both parts) ever!
RORY!!! 💙 he is the best.
And trust River…. EVERYTHING CHANGES!! River is such a fascinating character. It only gets better from here.
I love this season. This doctor paired with these two companions is just amazing. So much chemistry between them all.
One of my favourite stories ever ❤❤❤
Season 6 is going to be a blast. You won't be disappointed.
Series 5 is my favorite season. Loved the fairy tale.
Rory will ALWAYS hold a *very special* place in my heart! ❤🥺🥰😍🤗
Can't wait to see the reaction to series 6. It's about to get wild!
Amelia also is very Roman, from Aemilius.
Season 5 isn't my favourite season but it is top 3 for sure. It's such a fantastic season and it's even more crazy when you find out that the bb considered ending Doctor Who when David Tennant was leaving because they didn't think any one could follow it up, but then Moffat as showrunner and Matt Smith as the new Doctor knock it out of the park. I always recommend starting Doctor Who with Rose season 1 but if you had to chose a different tart point then season 5 is the best point to choose
I love this episode so much!!!! Everybody deserves a Rory!! 💘💘
Loved this reaction. My Doctor. Look forward to your Classic Who reactions as. The 11th Doctor just gets better and better.
One of my favourite finales, and next is my favourite christmas special
You've seen Torchwood and the "and that's when everything changes" didn't sound familiar????
My favourite season yet.
As much as I love Doctor Who, I still haven't forgiven them for what they did to Donna Noble. Also, Rory is the best.
Love your manic enjoyment of this show I loved do much the first time around. Peak Who indeed. More great stuff to come 😁I first watched Dr Who in the 60's on tiny black and white tv, as a small child living in Kenya! A life long connection... until they destroyed it.
what happened to Donna is genuinely tragic, she finally found herself & was happy & it was stolen from her & she'll never know, Im at least glad that she found a man who genuinely loves her for her & she can now live a normal life all her own(Im still sad & I 1st saw it over a decade ago)
I'm here for the "Holey what's! Crapping heck!"
