  • The Dales Way - 81 Miles from Ilkley to Bowness-on-windermere.
On Day 3 of our Dales Way hiking challenge, we covered 30km from Cowgill to Lambrigg, with plenty of interesting sights and experiences along the way. We may have left our campsite without paying (don't worry, we settled up later!), but we were soon on our way, walking through the fields and enjoying the sound of lambs playing in the spring sunshine.
Our first stop of the day was in Dent, where we found a welcoming café to recharge our batteries with bacon and sausage baps. After that, we continued on, crossing bridges and taking in some stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Did you know that Dent is the highest village in England, and is famous for its cobbled streets and whitewashed houses?
In Sedburgh, we stopped for a pint and some food before setting off again and finding a place to dry out our tents and have some lunch. We then followed the river to the M6, where we finally entered the Lake District. Sedburgh is known for its bookshops and is home to one of the UK's largest second-hand bookstores and is a good little place to come back and visit another day.
As we pitched our tents for the night next to a train line and a small stream, we reflected on the amazing scenery we had encountered so far on the Dales Way. Join us on our journey and watch for yourself to see some of the cool places we visited!
    Hope you enjoy the video.

Love that cafe in Dent. I was in Dent 4 weeks ago as part of the Dales Highway. There's a great bakery in Sedbergh that does a millionaires shortbread that must be 2 inch thick - scrumptious. You don't cross the M6 into Cumbria (or Westmorland and Furness as that county is now called as Cumbria is no more) - you were in W&F and not Yorkshire all day.

How did you find the Dales Highway, did you walk the full route or just a section? I enjoyed the Dales Way a few months ago, although we didn’t take the high route for that one.

@@krisgleave I trail walk with HF Holidays mostly (let someone else sort out the logistics). They have hotels near Malham and in Sedbergh so these were the bases for our stay, getting bused to start/finish points. Did the full route June 23.
