This is the music black people have blessed us with. Everyone has special gifts they can share. I am grateful for the music of this era that graces the world. An amazing gift from the people who have darker skin than many. I thank you and love you for it!💖
Melvin, I really enjoyed your take on this tune. I played guitar on the original recording of this track (Steve Green played bass). One small detail I just wanted to point out to you is that in the intro and bridge before the long signature descending riff, we played F# E F#, not 3 F#' hits as you are playing here. Great playing! Roy
Hey Roy, Thank you for your comment. Glad you liked my take on this classic. The original version speaks for itself.. To Quote old blue eyes Frank Sinatra...I did it my way! 😊
Roy, real cool to know you were there, the rhythmic trio ( bass, guitar and drums) on the original was incredible. Who was the drummer, do you remember? Thanks!
Was watching the Pointer Sisters at Caesar's Palace in 1888, they hitlighted Mr. Davis. Brother what a bad bassist!! So glad you had such an experience with the baddest female group of all times. Bless you sir!!
Funky, smooth, ethereal. Bass work is nuanced, textured, beautiful. That bass lead is super tasty, beautifully augmenting every other instrument in this piece. Geez, I can't stop replaying this...
Love it love it love it👍🏾✌🏾... I'm also a Bassist myself and I have always loved the bass line to this song back in the days. But it still sounds just as fresh today. Your awesome my Brother 👍🏾🔥
I saw Melvin together with Lee Ritenour in Stavanger; Norway a little over a year ago. An amazing musician, and immediately one of my favourite bassists!
Melvin thank you so much for sharing your talent on RUclips for us all. I've seen you several times live with Lee Ritenour and your playing has made the gig memorable. I look up to Marcus, Anthony Jackson, Jamerson, Louis Johnson, Abe Laboriel and you are in that class. It's hilarious to see comments from people who have no idea of your cv, surely their ears can tell the difference?
Yooo. That 6or 7 string bass higher register solo Is INSANE!!! YOUR PLACEMENT IMPECCABLE MEL!!! WISH I KUD HAVE WATCHED YOU PLAY THAT OVERDUB SOLO!!! DAYUMMMM
I'm sooo blown away on your take on this song!!!! I wish I lived in the city u are so I could take bass lessons so I can play that song just like that. I play drums, piano, and trumpet . You have inspired me to pick up another instrument!!!!!!
I love this song, one of my all time favorite classic R&B songs. What an outstanding cover. And Rob Bacon has to be one of the baddest and funkiest behind the scenes guitarist you’ve never heard of. That guy is a monster.
Mad Props On Your Excellent Version Of Nights Over Egypt! You Absolutely Killed That Bass Line And I Loved Every Minute Of It! God Bless You Brotha Melvin, The Jones Girls And All Of The Original Musicians That Wrote, Arranged And Produced This Angelic Masterpiece! Love, Peace And Blessings To All Of You, Always And Forever! 🙏♥️🙏✌️
He sure is smooth with it!! Love it, love it!!! I'm a Bass Lover!! I can listen to this song every day of the week, several times a day. Those young ladies can sure sing their butts off R.I.J.M. Brenda, & Valorie Jones.
I've always enjoyed listening to Melvin. Great meter, excellent musical dexterity & clear, succinct sound. The man does not attempt to leave the planet.
Ive heared this man many time and i'm telling you, he could have burned up every fret on that bass. Instead, we're treated to a Masterclass of groove, time, and feel!...one of my favorite songs too . Thanks for posting!
Oh my Brother Melvin...so clean and thorough ...l was taught what is missing is more important than what's in your face many times. Your work with Chaka speaks volumes.
Magik. That instrument is perfection for Funk music.... What to say about that man.... Just wonderful. THANKS for sharing your talent with us. KEEP UP !!!
what type of video you use and morrisman smith you do great video to and i remember you i think telling me sony? m thinking...i gotta get back to recoding.. well done mel ive look at most of your videos man yo its good stuff!!!!
not many covers stand up to the original, and this is a difficult song to master but you have done it my friend. you took it, molded it to your liking and to it somewhere else. the outer stratosphere would be my guess. this is outstanding and you should be proud of what you and your bandmates have done with this song. I was a little skeptical when I saw the video title, thought it was just another play along but you have won me over as a subscriber. I have loved the jones girls since the 70s. Shirley jones, gamble and huff would be proud.....and I know Valerie and Brenda Jones are smiling down on you from heaven. continue your bass crusade. Peace and love. 🎶🎶🎶
I grew up watching Melvin Air Bass. As a kid, Mel's big lips imitated the sound of an authentic Bass. Smedley junior high was already studying music and becoming a master at what he is today. Eddie Carl Hunter was one of my neighbors growing up RAYMAR Street in Santa Ana.. Mel's Fam. Proud of my Brotha.. PhilMoBetta......
SOLID. Man.... I wonder if Mr. Davis teaches online, I'd definitely treat myself some lessons from this giant. Why he's not as well known as Marcus Miller, Wooten, and a bunch of other great bassists is beyond my comprehension. Of my bass nerd buddies I'm the only one who knows who he is, LOL.
Thank you for your great take on this track Melvin In Crete ATM, pouring down with a rain storm (Medicane Ianus), and greedy mosquitos also on the prowl, but the two of us are totally digging this so much Thank you so much from 2 English girls
You're one of my bass heros, been appreciating your playing for many years. Just found your channel. What a tight, clean performance that was. Always loved that cut and you just polished it up, thanks.
Too bad two of these ladies have passed. Seems like some careless living was going on, and that is so unfortunate. They were lovely, great voices and entertainers. I wish they were all still with us and working today. Great work on the bass! Loved it! Thank you so much!
Haven’t listened yet! But, first heard you will Lee Ritenour and Larry Carlson in Tokyo. That groove you laid down on ‘Wes Bound’ is just classic. Following you now!
Wow. I absolutely love it. The Jones Girls were so under rated and made great music. This is what real music should sound like and it's tragic what has become of modern r/b and pop music.
I use to play the bass guitar. I want to pick it back up. Love it ever since I was young. I need learn more. Always loved the Bass Guitar 🎸 thats fun to me!!!!!
Awesome bass and tune! So funky❤
This is the music black people have blessed us with. Everyone has special gifts they can share. I am grateful for the music of this era that graces the world. An amazing gift from the people who have darker skin than many. I thank you and love you for it!💖
This is infuriating. It's too good.

Roy, Than you know Dexter Wansel who wrote the tune! He deserves much more credit!
Roy, real cool to know you were there, the rhythmic trio ( bass, guitar and drums) on the original was incredible. Who was the drummer, do you remember? Thanks!
This is the smoothest cover I've heard of this song. Enough to make me want to get back into playing the bass. Excellent work.
Incognito does a nice version, but you’re right, this is the best cover I’ve heard so far
@@meh2199 Incognito's version is lovely but this tempo suits the song better IMO
Was watching the Pointer Sisters at Caesar's Palace in 1888, they hitlighted Mr. Davis. Brother what a bad bassist!! So glad you had such an experience with the baddest female group of all times. Bless you sir!!
Wow. He is an OOOOLD man, if he played in 1888! *giggle* 😋
