      Almost impossible to single out one player. There were some tremendous performances from both teams, both brilliant individual efforts and teamwork. From this England supporter's point of view, the highlight was Claudia MacDonald's break from the in goal area and her superb pass to free Abby Dow up for the try. So, I'd have them as joint players of the match. But, as I said, an incredibly difficult task.
      PS What a match! Had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

    This was such a fantastic and exciting match. Canada performed so robustly and heroically, but England were ultimately just too powerful. The athleticism, toughness, skill, gruelling physical battles, determination and spirit of the players was beyond impressive (as the other semi final was). It had been coming for several years now, but the women are now even more fierce, physical and produce more excitement than the men. I now watch far more women's Rugby as men's games seem rather stop start and lacking the drama of the ladies. Rugby was made for female athletes, just as boxing and MMA are for female fighters. Women just needed the opportunities, and now produce just as much skill, but with more excitement and played in the right spirit.

    A couple of thoughts. One England winger had not a single chance to score but did create one chance for the other winger, and the other winger had just two chances and scored both times. Why oh why don't England plan and work to give their wingers as many chances as possible?
    When oh when will England stop helping their opponents so much by kicking away possession so frequently?

    • @richwalker1965
      @richwalker1965 Год назад +1

      I'm not sure they kick that much but if you have a maul and a pick and go game that good you have to back that as well. Try thinking about the question the other way around - what would you say if they played everything through the backs and didn't use that pack?

    • @passingfancy4682
      @passingfancy4682 Год назад

      @@richwalker1965 Agreed completely, the strength of the England pack is the foundation. Indeed, such is their strength that it is an argument against those long kicks giving away possession. You can only attack with possession, and while you have it, the opposition cannot attack. My plea is for balance. Without those two winger tries, England would have lost, yet there were only two chances for a winger to score. "... as many chances as possible" means selectively, preferably deliberately working to set up overlaps to unleash the wingers.

    • @richwalker1965

    Yet another shambolic display from the SA referee (and not the first in the tournament), who once again often needed the TMO to tell her what was happening. Monsyllabic, poorly positioned, lacking in management protocols, unsure of the laws regarding the difference between a tackle and a maul, offside lines generally ignord, and so on - sad for rugby, and sad for the players of both teams, because the lack of structure makes the game something of a lottery.
    Credit to the Canadian coach for getting his players to spread the ball away from the English pack, and credit to both the English 2nd rows for tireless work in the loose.
    In the other semi-final, France were 'robbed' - so many NZ misdemeanors went unpunished that it took me back to the days of Richie Mac - offsides, over the top, killing the ball, all either unseen or ignored - come on, Joy, that was pretty poor - you can do better than that.
