so many amazing moments in this solo. Give the camera man some love - he captured the rawness perfectly. the notes that come out at the 2:00 mark...haunting. the solo fades at about the :53 mark on the album and i always used to turn up the volume as it was fading bcoz that part was so good! LOL
in the audio commentary for this video, Jordan said something to the effect of, "whoa, there were quite a few notes in there that didnt fit the scale (diatonic)." I feel that is what made early JP so intriguing, exciting, almost mythical to watch and listen to. His ability to play outside the tonal system in such a subtle way as if to color his improvised solo lines. Nowadays henhas such little use of chromaticism he sounds 'stale.' I think Jordan got into his head.
Yeah, well I actually liked Kevin the best. I really don't care for Jordan's playing. Just preference. He's a great musician, but his playing just doesn't speak to me. just like a lot, not all, of John's later stuff just doesn't speak to me the way his early stuff did.
I miss this version of DT so much. Reminds me why I became a fan. Unfortunately their recent works don't get me as exicted as this single guitar solo does.
I thought this was awesome when I first saw it on their video 15 odd years ago, and I still think so now. It was the solo I had waited for after they disappointingly faded it out on the recorded album version.
There is something so interesting about the sound of this solo and song. I've never heard anything like it but it sounds like it's from another planet or something.
i wonder what it feels like to be in dream theater. knowing every single one in their team is one of the best in their areas. bass, guitar drum vocal keyboard.. taking part in a team that's flawless. in a team that can make music like that. I just wonder what it feels like. just imagining that feeling gives me goosebumps.
MIKE PETRUCCI WITH THIS COLOUR IBANEZ LOOKING UNIQUE AWESOME AND MATCHING..IT MAKE DIFFERENT WITH OTHER GUITARIST AND HE USED IN ANOTHER DAY MUSIC VIDEO IT REALLY COOL TO SEE USING THIS GUITAR
I seriously believe that John Petrucci is almost TOO good at the playing the guitar. Don't get me wrong, there are many other wonderful players out there, but John is the one that really captures my imagination. Great video!
This song was recorded on one of DT's tours to France. It's on "Once In A Livetime." The solo isn't identical to this one, but still it's out of control awesome.
Jamie MacMillan different people are different. Plus he still has emotions, but he doesn't jump around as much. Steve Vai might be lucky enough to have that kind of energy at that age.
Dan Davidson yeah, I mean his stage presence is still very good, I saw them earlier on this month and he was pretty lively. I guess I'm just annoyed I was never able to enjoy them in their golden days
@EdgarMalmsteen LaBries dancing reaching epic proportions during To Live Forever (Johns first solo between verses). James jumps and spins around. Now known as the Court Jester dance.
Hey!!! asombroso! gran Maestro Petrucci!
Man, I love young Petrucci videos.
very passionate lol..
He was more sensitive than know. I really don't like the 2010's dream theater.
Those were soulful , now he turn into machine !
@@NeazAhmed got petruccinated
Young, old or otherwise!! HE’S THE GREATEST!!
When Petrucci and Ibanez united
Is prime!
This video was so amazing that I didn't realize that it was in 240p.
It´s not only the speed, it´s the sheer awesomeness that his guitar emanates!
The power and the expression
I like this tone so much better!!
I loved that ibanez picaso guitar, it looks so amazing!
one the best solos that i´ve heard
Best guitar tone era for Petrucci!
Agreed... It's not over saturated in gain and delay.
This is why he is one of the greatest to ever strap on the guitar !
Great since day one! Hail the king Petrucci!!
One of the most amazing live show of DT ever
so many amazing moments in this solo. Give the camera man some love - he captured the rawness perfectly. the notes that come out at the 2:00 mark...haunting. the solo fades at about the :53 mark on the album and i always used to turn up the volume as it was fading bcoz that part was so good! LOL
I always turn it up when I reach the end of that song haha
yeah fuck all those fadeouts, I wanna hear the goddamn solo more
In love with that guitar, would do anything for it mannnnnnn
Adam Giannasi You can find one used for a relatively good price. The p1 is the most sought after though. Personally i prefer the p2
His playing and tone amazed me when I first saw this concert! It was love at first sight!
King...legend...super fantastic!!!...💓😍😎
One of my favourite guitarist.
Clearly John Petrucci is God and That IS Clearly Best Solo that we have ever been Blessed with!

OMG two EPIC solos: this and To Live Forever.

I dont remember that commentary.. but I agree, his use of chromatic(s) gave a specific fell.. it was different
Ryan Soliman what's the name of the commentary?

By far my favorite era of John.

Holy cow that was amazing
The absolutely peak moment of my love for DT.
Man, I really LOVE YOU
I miss this version of DT so much. Reminds me why I became a fan. Unfortunately their recent works don't get me as exicted as this single guitar solo does.
Wicked! Boogies tone!
JP in a league of his own. He’s got his own style and I love it
thank god for that great guitar player
loooooooooooooool that was a good one... ;-)
The world domination mode!!
Best there is
wow just wow
Good old times
I thought this was awesome when I first saw it on their video 15 odd years ago, and I still think so now. It was the solo I had waited for after they disappointingly faded it out on the recorded album version.
I saw this 10 years ago. And I instantly became a fan of this band, starting a decade long obsession that I'm still thankful for to this day.
I still watch these after almost 25 yrs since ive seen it…
just WOW o_o
GUITAR GOD. JOHN PETRUCCI

There is something so interesting about the sound of this solo and song. I've never heard anything like it but it sounds like it's from another planet or something.

Holy molie! Technically unbelievable, but just the sound he produced was and is forever. Jesus Mary n fn Josef!!!!!!
I'm amazed.
probably one of the most impressive solos i've EVER seen.

OMFG THAT WAS AMAAAAAAAZZZINGGGG
OMFG....HE'S SO AMAZING
This is truly epicness in epic proportions. If he could only play like this nowadays.
This is the kind of thing that inspires me to pick up my guitar every day. Amazing stuff. Dream Theater forever!

MIKE PETRUCCI WITH THIS COLOUR IBANEZ LOOKING UNIQUE AWESOME AND MATCHING..IT MAKE DIFFERENT WITH OTHER GUITARIST AND HE USED IN ANOTHER DAY MUSIC VIDEO IT REALLY COOL TO SEE USING THIS GUITAR
2:27 James whispers into John's ear "Dude the song finished 20 seconds ago!". Man John Petrucci is badass!
happy birthday John Petrucci
I seriously believe that John Petrucci is almost TOO good at the playing the guitar.
Don't get me wrong, there are many other wonderful players out there, but John is the one that really captures my imagination.
Great video!
Awesome
best john petrucci live solo ever!
Speed monster, but it also comes with feeling.. that is what i love most about petrucci
Normally I prefer his newer solos, but this one is exceptionally shredtastic!!!
HE IS A BEAST.
at 1:25 when Petrucci starts going into orbit, I can hear snippet of Tornado of Souls solo from Marty
Just a bit faster
1000 times better than today
whnever i need inspiration i watch solos of john petrucci and i am juiced up
ha ha.. thats gold man.. yea he is badass!!..
Insane!!!!!!
1:25 Tornado of souls lick
I miss 90s Trucci
...and I still get goosebumps
soooooo clean!
My favorite JP guitar, it's so unapologetically 90s
the day i saw him live he made me practice harder, knowing that one 1 day i could do half of the things he does
GOD!
The best video ever! John actually is human. He messes up the sweep arpeggio 0:30-0:33. :)
sweet. thanks i want it
Magical times for DT!
I miss Petrucmci with PICASSO
DAMM!!! the best!
This song was recorded on one of DT's tours to France. It's on "Once In A Livetime." The solo isn't identical to this one, but still it's out of control awesome.
this has got to be one of the top 10 toughest solos to play......... no no... the top.
Beast
best petrucci ever
great
This is the DT I really miss!
Wow... 1:37 sounds sick!!
he looks so much more passionate about his playing there now he either just smiles at the crowd or just stares at his fretboard.
Jamie MacMillan
He's also 50 years old
Dan Davidson that doesn't hold Steve Vai back, he's closer to 60
Jamie MacMillan different people are different.
Jamie MacMillan yeah same. I'm only 14, and I just discovered them a couple years ago
wow, that was badass
dude this is awesome but I think the way James is dancing in the background is the REAL show ahahahaha :P DREAM THEATER!
Superb!!
i like petrucci
the best J P
shame this was performed 7 days before i was born
WISH I WAS THERE!

Wow! I was skeptical at first... but this is really a amazing solo!
John Petrucci doesn't make mistakes... He plays so fast that your brain makes a mistake trying to keep up.
Bhaaaaaaaaai.....

SIMPLY EPIC.
My eyes just melted out of my skull
