Devilman is even more insane when you learn it was published in a shounen magazine.
WHAT really?!!! I thought it was Seinen! Read It a few years back so been while but it had quite a few adult themes I guess people matured much quicker back then though.
I think a good point of comparison is the death of Gwen Stacy in Spiderman which came out after Devilman had already finished. That was an incredibly shocking moment for the western side of comic books and in retrospect is considered to be the end of the silver age of comic books. Comparing the death of Gwen Stacy, which is completely bloodless, to the slaughter of the Makimura family should give some context to how crazy that scene in Devilman was.
Devil man is one of those series that were just ahead of their time.
Everytime I see the artwork of devilman and old Jojo I got remembered how fucking old these Mangas are.
Devilman is something I would LOVE to tackle someday! There’s a myriad of cool merchandise to cover, another amazing video dude.
It’s cool this series inspired series or elements implemented in series such as Berserk, Parasite, Evangeleon etc
This is a great review and does not give too much away other than themes and tone. It is easy to see why it is so influential from Berserk to Evangelion. I would definitely recommend giving the Netflix adaptation a try. It is only 10 episodes long and modernizes the themes and the setting a bit and can be watched in an afternoon.

Hey Ryan I know this is kind of off topic from this video but are you going to do a analysis breakdown of Attack on Titan the way you do berserk. I mean after you finish reading Attack on Titan of course.
No because any manga I've tried that with other than Berserk gets copywrite striked so it's not worth it. I'll continue to make videos on AoT in general though

To put it in context Devilmans original release is closer in time to the atomic bombs being dropped than we are now to the original release of devilman

I highly recommend watching DevilMan Crybaby and to eventually read DevilMan G.

Honestly Go Nigai is a genius, not only did he start the standard of how far a series could go. In the terms, of Rated G to MA. He created 3 entire Genres of Anime. Magziner Z and Mobile Suit Gundam witch were the start of the Mecha Genre. Cutie Honey the start of the Ecchi Genre and DevilMan for the Occult genre. Which all these franchises were all written by him. Literally the starting standards were written by this man.

Oh it's pretty great it is modernize a bit to better fit with the times but overall it's a pretty good adaptation
you should watch 1987 second and third ovas man especially the third which has a different storyline from the original

Yes, but the manga is better. The message, theme and the fights scenes in the manga are better than the Netflix one.
