Due to its organization and sanitary facilities - tremendously modern in the eyes of the Soviets - that camp was exactly the opposite of an "extermination camp." Therefore, for several days the official Soviet communist newspaper, Pravda, remained silent on the matter, and for some time the Russians did not invite any Allied commission to verify the true situation in Auschwitz on the spot.
