@@wertywerrtyson5529 The Standard PS2 released in 2000 and the PS2 slim was released in 2004 the latter which i had with COD big red one around the same time as him. I was 5 when red one released so the slim wouldn't of been old at the time plus at that age thinking about consoles in the way of newer and better isn't really thought about. The ps2 was the biggest selling console out of all others so that's why it held itself through the years from popularity even when newer and better stuff had arrived. I think as well it was just a different time back then where newer and better wasn't a ingrained thing into people like it is now with tech. The PS2 console and games for the PS2 Continued to be made until worldwide production of the PS2 ceased on the 4th Jan 2013 which is weird to think about.

I replayed this game so much when I was little, much more than finest hour. This game had the closest thing to actual characters in early cod games and I remember being like 8 and crying when Brooklyn got killed. Despite having some terribly aged controls and other aspects of the actual gameplay. The mission diversity is really good. The B-24 mission in this is basically what gave us Black Cat's in World at War and is leagues better than the OG cod's B-17 mission in United Offensive. The tank mission in this game IMO is better than Cod 2's simply because its third person. But Africa, Sicily, Belgium and western Germany are all fairly unused locations in the cod WW2 games and WW2 game in general so it's great to see them in this game and done with a relatively great amount of detail for the time and scale of this game's development. I also love hearing the actors from band of brother's voice acting in this. I remember watching the development documentary in the main menu quite a few times lol. But again, as a kid I found it gut wrenching watching each of your squad members die throughout the deration of the war. Especially the one in Sicily. The way he's mercilessly gunned down was frankly upsetting in a way I can't really describe or compare. Honestly, I just miss how authentic these games use to be. A lot of hard work and dedication went into this game, and you can tell.

I remember playing the demo for this at gamestop on one of their Xbox 360s when they first came out. The demo mission was the on where you retake what I think is Tripoli, the sea port city with the flak 88's on the beach at the end. In the beginning you're in the back of an open top troop transport with a dogfight overhead. I was absolutely stunned looking at the clothing of the character models up close in the back of that seat, being able to see texture. I was thinking "graphics will never look better than this".

I bought this game, mistaken it for COD2 for the PC because I played that game before at my cousin's and wanted to have a taste of it. Little did I know, that this game would be the most replayed PS2 game growing up. People nowadays would always say they're attached to Captain Price, Soap, Ghost and such. But to me, Brooklyn, Vic, Kelly and Hawkins were by BROs (Big Red One). When COD WW2 was announced and that we'll play in the Big Red One division, I was hoping we'd see the original squad. But, I was disappointed..

There's tiny little elements in this game you might never notice even after years of playing.
In terms of set dressing and keeping accurate to real history and tactics, have you ever notice how the German sniper in the mission "Crossroads" shoots Hawk? The highest ranking soldier there? That's exactly what snipers were trained to do. And are still trained to do to this day. The German sniper then shoots the medic. Which is a war crime. But it's something the Germans did quite often. Especially on the eastern front with the Soviets. Only it was way more mutual over there.
In terms of storytelling, you have things like the juxtaposition of hardass Bloomfield in the prologue to the snarky, fresh out of boot camp, Bloomfield two years earlier is also amazing.

Big Red 1 was my first COD game as well. I played this game ad nauseam and can qoute some of the cut scenes. It was made when the devs really cared about story and the connection to the characters. Like when Bloomfield dies on the Sigfried line mission during a mortar strike when trying to clear the barbed wire is touching. You can hear him saying, "I might actually make it home from this lousy war..." on multiple occasions in different missons leading up to that point when he literally says it right before being KIA. It really does make you think of all the real life people that didn't make it home.
Such a great game and OST.
